  1. I'm looking for the rear center frame piece you may have removed while installing a trailer hitch. Have you one being kicked around the garage floor or hanging on the wall ? If so ! what would it take for you to part with it ? Gary PM me Or Call 810-516-0035 verizon Thanks
  2. Hi from France ! Can you tell me if the rear frame is the same on the first and second generation because I want to put the 2nd gen saddlebags on my old 1200 venture ! Thanks for all ! barry-only-n7
  3. Does a clean title and a frame for an 86 VR have any value? I have them if anyone wants to make an offer. Bull
  4. I know I can't be the only guy walking around like a cowboy after a nice warm ride on the sled. Somedays can be brutal. Dam global warming. And if I don't have the wife with me to ask, I'm paranoid it looks liked I've P'd myself! Anyways I disgress........ A buddy of mine riding a '08 Ultra has these very neat looking devices called saddle shileds, and they work! But of course, they only come available for HD's ... but different models. http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/catID/0/scID/0/IMID/835 The above is a link to the Kuryalyn website where the saddle shields reside. My question: Would anyone know if the '05 RSV frame just in front of the seat, where these doohickies (technical lingo) connect is the same size or (can I dream - configuration) as any known HD's? I figure if anyone can help it would be some Super Venturer. Thanks either way.
  5. A quickie question guys. Will a seat from a 1983 VR fit on a 1985 frame? Thankymuch!

    Lifting the RSV

My current ride is a V*1100. Using a lift under it is quite interesting because the engine is lower than the frame. I use hockey pucks strategically placed on the lift arms to avoid lifting the bike by the engine (although some have said that is no big deal). My question is: Does the RSV have a flat bottom frame with the bottom of the engine above the bottom of the frame? Or is it like the V* and creativity time again? Thanks from a prospective RSV buyer. Oldsalt
  7. does anyone know if my frame where the swing arm and centerstand connect could be welded ? I will greatly appreciate any advise thank you joel morgan
  8. Just found this site, looking forward to lots of info as I delve into a new project. Here's my first problem: need a frame with a clear title to swap into. The bike I bought was complete and came with a bill of sale. Georgia will only register vehicles with a bill of sale that are 1985 or older. Tough lesson to learn! Going through the parts lists that are posted on this site, it looks like 1988-1993 all have the same part number. Can older frames be swapped into? I've read plenty to stay away from the 1983 frame due to potential failure on the center stand area. Anyone have a frame gathering dust in the garage they want to get rid of? Looking forward to learning lots more about these bikes! Thanks for the help.
  9. I'm back again looking for the best help....I just bought a Arlen Ness license plate frame with LED lighting for brake and taillight. I saw Free Birds wiring for extra lights which is great but was wondering if I can hook right into wiring that is just above tail light on 08 RSTD. until I get to the colder months and have more down time. Thanks Kelly
  10. Are the frames the same on the 99 and up Venture, royal star, tourer delux up to the latest model? The two brackets with holes in them that are welded to the frame btm. And any other upstructions below frame difference?
  11. I prefer leaving the side engine panels off my '85 in cold weather. But in order to "clean up" the engine area, I'd like to remove the black support tube/bar that attaches to the frame and runs accross the bottom of the jugs front to back. Question is, does that bar do any more than support the plastic panels? I really can't see where it could play a more vital roll than that. Any input would be appreciated!

    New 2009 Harleys

Harley Davidson has announced the 2009 lineup, and the big news for us in the Harley fold is the upgraded frame on the touring bikes. I have always had some issues with the way the FL's handle, and I paid to upgrade mine with a frame stablizer. Looks like they might be on the right track now..I'll ride one in Sturgis in a couple weeks and report back.

    Motorcycle jack

Anyone have an idea on what type jack can be used on 2005 RSV. I have one that was used on 1300 vtx and c90T but will not work on this one because it is not flat from one side of frame to the other. Any help will be apprecisted, thanks
  14. New to the ORG, but have been lurking a bit to get ideas for my ride. Was going to chop it then I saw an idea that got my attention, and now am going to build it. It is different enough to get attention. The colors are yet to be determined. It looks like a bumble bee now cause my wife wants it to stand out, since I'm going to be sitting low and maybe less visible. Just about done with the design.... Going to start fabrication soon. Frame and engine mounts are being fabbed today. Original stripped down, screaming chop me, chop me!! http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/4944/donorxvz1200drivetrainfg5.jpg http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/4944/donorxvz1200drivetrainfg5.3ce484c954.jpg Started with a vertical full size grill from a '42 and decided it was too bulky. Using original handle bars, rear suspension, front wheels, brakes. The '42 roadster style front end with a drop axle with a spring leaf suspension will work great and allow the frame to pivot so I can lean into the turns. http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/2363/trikeview11eo2.jpg Second design version... more speed... http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/3975/choppedroyal4lr5.jpg http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/3975/choppedroyal4lr5.00786ee399.jpg I will take pictures of the fabrication process. Contemplating doing the front clip in carbon fiber and don't know how I will do the grill yet. http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/4849/choppedroyal5kh9.jpg http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/4849/choppedroyal5kh9.02fccb796a.jpg Side view http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/3128/choppedroyal6pg1.jpg Could use input from all you critical critics. Let me have it!!
  15. As some of you might know one of the Tulsa Touring Riders wreck his 1999 venture while we where on a ride a couple of weeks ago. After lots of thought and since he his getting up there in age (74) he has decided not to put the bike back together, so he will be selling it cheap. The right side plastic is messed up and the fairing. The forks and frame are good. If anyone is interested in it, give me a shout and I will put you touch with him. The bike has been well maintained and has less than 40,000 miles on it. Phill pandlbiker@cox.net
  16. http://www.signaldynamics.com/products/LicensePltFrame/cd_chrome_led_frame.jpeg A few weeks ago I replaced my tail light with a LED board and a clear lens. What I failed to do and I didnt realize it until one night last week when a cop pulled me over at 230 am by work was the fact that I didnt have a licence plate light anymore. I then realized that when I switched to the LED board it no longer illuminated upwards like a regular bulb, thus no plate light. My explanation worked and I promised the kind officer that I will get a lighted frame this weekend. After searching several sites, JP being the most expensive in the 59.00 to 120.00 dollar range. I found the above frame at www.signaldynamics.com for a paltry sum of 35.00. 42.00 with shipping and tax....yes, they are located in my home state. Exciting, huh!
  17. Anybody know if a top case frame from a Venture can go onto a Tour Deluxe?
  18. My 84 has had a oil leak sence i got it 1 1/2 ago. seems to be on the left as that the messy side or perhaps itts from sitting on the side stand. but the left pipe is dirtier then the right . grimy on the leftside near the kickstand. there dosnt seem to be oil running down form the valve covers. and only drips after a ride for a while. anyway i was looking for the source today and came across a few thing i was wonder about on the left there is a square rubber cover http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/MikeM8560/Venture%20XVZ12/th_100_1060.jpg and under it seems to be a bleeder fitting? what is it? http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/MikeM8560/Venture%20XVZ12/th_100_1059.jpg and on the left running along the frame and going up the front is a small metal line? http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/MikeM8560/Venture%20XVZ12/th_100_1062.jpg and I also saw what apeared to be a repair to the frame, looks like it to me and has some black paint missing. the right side looks fine http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/MikeM8560/Venture%20XVZ12/th_100_1065.jpg
  19. Found some kickass Billet LED frames that fit our bikes! LEDs are very bright and all the wiring is inside the frame. No wiring mess on back of frame. Check it out: http://lh5.ggpht.com/arizonakober/SAJYMEwm7lI/AAAAAAAAEQ8/cTkI9VwyluU/s400/Billetboysonayamaha.jpg http://lh3.ggpht.com/arizonakober/SAJYMkwm7mI/AAAAAAAAERI/JuOTd_Ha420/s400/Billetboysonayamaha2.jpg
  20. Got the frame cleaned off finally, got a couple of questions on the center stand bracing. To me, it looks like somebody has welded in triangular braces already. These welds, especially the one on the right side of frame (straight triangle, looks like left side, frame upside down), does not look like factory weld. Do I need to do additional bracing while I'm in here? No cracks are evident, will wait till I sand frame down (or get it sand-blasted) to check closer. Word of wisdom, as is evidenced at the kick-stand switch, leaking hydraulic fluid will eat the crap out of your paint job! Maybe I should just paint the frame w/ brake fluid to strip it! Next pic is again from the battery acid fumes due to no breather vent hose on the bike. Also noticed in the neck bearing races, looks like bearings have "set" themselves in one area. Should I replace the races and bearings as a set? Middle 2 shots-- my "wash-down" area (keeps me out of the doghouse-eh Dragonslayer?!) and the project I had before I got the Venture. Will get to it sometime! Thanks guys again, Dan Sorry the pics aren't that clear, still trying to learn this camera!
  21. Finally got the case split and the frame cleaned up. #'s match on motor and frame, so it is original. First a couple of pointers that I had not seen in earlier posts. For some reason, MamaYama decided not to put the drain plug in the lowest portion of the oil pan, so you don't get a complete oil change, nor drain the sludge. It makes it messy when you're tearing down the motor such as I am. I figured this one out, though. Take a gallon oil jug, split it in half vertically. Then follow these pics. I thought it was ingenious! Got about 1/4- 2/3rds quart of oil out of the motor. Just lay a couple of 2x4s on their edge with the split jugs under them and lay the motor over on it's side. By the way, how do you like my hillbilly work bench!?! Next: here are pics of my forks, only 1 showing any face wear, maybe just in the beginning phases of the damage part. I'm not seeing much damage on the gearset, haven't broken down the drive axle set yet (tomorrow?). Whada'ya think? I'm hoping thrust washer, check shaft and fork, replace if necessary. Can't figure out how to get pics between lines to continue commentary, will set new post for my frame questions. Thanks guys, Dan
  22. I have been looking at a trailer by Neosho Fiberglass, in Neosho Mo. The overall looks and price is good, however I am not sure bought the frame. It is made of 3/4" square tubing. Does anyone have experience with this trailer. Here is their web sight, which shows the frame. http://www.neoshotrailers.com/ Thanks for the help Barry
  23. Thought i'd post a few for the folks that ain't ever seen one torn down. These are the few i thought to take during my frame change. Can you find the Ninja Turtle on a Motorcycle??? Trying to figure out what to do with a broken frame (blurry)
  24. Is it possible to remove and install the rear head of a 1st gen 1200 without removing the engine from the frame?
  25. Sunday, after getting our camping stuff set up in Townsend TN, below Gatlinburg, my son and and grandson on their Yamaha FZ1, and the wife and I on the Venture took off down the Foothills Parkway to ride the Dragon. Just after we turned onto 129, as I hit a bump at the beginning of the first bridge, I thought I had a blowout or busted the rear shock. When I found a good place to pull over, the rear tire looked fine and when I checked the rear shock pressure, it was what I had it set on. When I looked under it, I saw that the rear suspension linkage had shifted forward and the frame on the cross bar was twisted and split. I have checked the frame several times on my 83 Venture and felt confidant that my frame had been replaced with a new one somewhere in its earlier life. I had asked what to look for on this site and was told to look for gussets and any signs of rust. There has never been any signs of rust and the frame looked beefy with gussets around this area. My first look with a flashlight does not indicate any rust present in the split areas and the frame walls look aproximately .075 thick and shiney. The bike is still sitting on the trailer that I hauled it home on Sunday night. At the moment I have the bike sitting upside down on my trailer. I have all the plastic off except the front fender and the rear frame section off. It appears that what has happened is the center section has twisted and split. I am taking it to a friend that has made a living as a welder and has built many racecars. I am going to have him look at it and see what we can do. I know that if he will agree to tackle it, it will be stronger than new when he finishes it. What really concerns me is this frame WAS NOT RUSTED AT ALL. It just twisted with the suspension pushing up and the engine weight pushing down on the other side. I did see areas that appeared to have poor weld penitration. I will post some pictures as soon as I can. Well, she is sitting upright and the rear suspension is on. I took it to my racecar building buddy and he did a great job getting it back right. He also added some 3/8 rod from the tower that has the suspension mount and center stand over to the frame, creating a triangulation for much added strength. I had my collector with me so we could see where we had room and it would not get in the way. Even though there was obviously some poor welding, but absolutely no rust, I feel I may have also contributed to the problem over the last nine years that I have had the bike. I have routinely spun the bike around while on the centerstand. My garage floor is very smooth and the bike spins easy, but I am going to stop doing that as this has probably put a lot of pressure on the frame in that area.
