  1. Thanks to a number of you good folks, I was able to perform much-needed mainteance on my scoot! I changed out all of the OEM pads for EBC HH slintered pads...WOW...what a difference! (Thanks Steve!) I also pulled the rear wheel to clean out the 5 pounds of bearing grease that the dealer packed into the splines & pins (Thanks Cougar and Mr Freebird for their outstanding pictorials! And lastly, thanks to the number of folks that added their 2 cents along the way....your comments were invaluable... One again I say... "You guys ROCK!"
  2. Mineral Managment Service has suspended US drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Hopefully this will not last too long. 77 rigs under contract right now in the GOM. another 46 not on contract as of this week. They are going to allow work over of the current wells. Also other countries not under MMS control can continue... If this last very long it could mean around 15,000 or more folks will be layed off. This could very easily cause spikes in Oil prices and we could see it at the pumps... No word on when it will be lifted. BTW...not trying to start an argument about whether they should or should not drill in the gulf after the on going disaster...just wanted to let you good folks know what is going on if you see a spike in prices.
  3. This has to be the most awesome day for a ride,,,, an all day ride,, and we could do just that,,,, except we promised to help out our youngest in St. Catherines fix up her yard and fix her lawn mower,,, and put in an outdoor plug and plant some plants,,,, so we will be tied up today,,,,, bummer,,,,,but hey, family comes first so she tops our list today,,, maybe ice-cream this evening on the way home, after all it is a Canadian Holiday. Did a 200 k ride yesterday,, just so we wouldn't feel tooo bad today. Enjoy your day folks, couldn't ask for better conditions, no matter what you're doing. Oh Ya she lives on Grass Ave,, not hard to find once you get there (my van will be there) incase you have excess energy.
  4. Guess only way to do it is try. Not sure I would be willing to be a guinea pig though. Some Venture folks swap out Venture gears for VMAX gears. Some folks swap out VTX1300 gears for 1800. Wonder if it would work to swap out Venture gears for say 1800 gears.
  5. We plan a trip in the first weekend of June to Windsor. Decided to stay over the night, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for places to stay and, of course, eat. We are going to Willistead Park for Art in the Park. Thanks folks!!
  6. Put in an order for the progressive fork springs...there on the way...one of the boys here at work mentioned the use of Dextron VI (transmission fluid) in lieu of 10wt fork oil. I took a peek on my greatest reference tool (this site) and found little info on the subject. It would appear that some folks have done it but I'm just wondering what the ramifications, if any, there are or would be. Plse chime in......
  7. http://blog.silive.com/around_the_block_column/2010/04/make_vroom_for_daddys_prized_possession.html My mom called and told me about this article she read in the local paper. Thought I'd share it here. Pretty interesting what you can find in some folks basements. I also attached a pic of the bike. Margaret
  8. Hey Folks, I have a perhaps odd question to ask all of our members here. Lonna and I just signed a renters agreement on a doublewide MH with a 2 car garage...Yay for us It's all furnished with washer/dryer, stove, fridge yada yada yada. We now need to get some items for the house as we left quite a few things with Lonnas sister back at our old home in Michigan. The 1 thing we really need is going to be a good set of culinary knives. I'm not talking about the stuff you buy at Walmarts, this will be the last set of knives we buy. I'm no chef, but I do know there are good knive companies out there like Henckel and such. These are professional knives and that is what we are looking for. We have a great many members here with varied back grounds. What I would like is if you folks that are in the know or are culinary professionals (or anybody for that fact) could suggest a set of good quality knives that will last our lifetime. Price is somewhat of an issue, but I dont mind paying for quality and I'm thinking somewhere in the $300 or less price range. Do appreciate all you help with this one
  9. Ordering a bunch of Parts (Santa (wife) was very good to me)...Plus I quite Smoking back in Mid Sept....and now using the money normally spend on cigs for chrome....Showed the wife the Yamaha "Lid Rail"....She said they look cheap...Are these the Harley lid rails a bunch of you folks are using...Saw them on bikes in the Pic's Forum. Any mods to the bags other than holes need to be made. George In Virginia..
  10. I live in Central Mississippi... I get up this morning and it is snowing HARD. So far we got 4 inches and it is not supposed to stop till noon. I believe some of you northern folks have wished this on us down here in the south. We do not own, nor can you buy any where around here...tire chains...snow shovels...de-icing gear. They have cancelled school cause folks do not know how to drive in snow. Knock it off. This is not funny.
  11. Picture taken in Asheville 2009 - at BBQ place So put a name to the folks please! Start front row left to right then back row. Thanks all, Steve
  12. I looking to buy and install a license plate frame that have some bright LED's that I can use for both running and additional break light. Do any of you kind folks know where I gould find such a thing for my 07 RSTD? You help will be appreciated. Mark;)
  13. Thought I would also post here so folks will see my results. See the end if this thread. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44301
  14. I just wanted to say thank you to John (jlh3rd) for starting the adding gauges thread and coming up with this great idea a while back to our 2nd gens. and giving the idea to PONCH for coming up with a full on-board kits as well, Also, thank you to VGoose for his write-up to better inform us on how to add all of this stuff. Freebird for finding the gauge sets that most of us are using ,this is an amazing place that it all came together with folks putting there minds together for this project. forgive me as I am sure there were other folks as well to make all this come together as well. Heck it took me 3 or 4 trys to get my water temp fixed, but now there is no more leak, this was one of my MANY winter projects on my bike this winter , I think I might be almost done with them , still another month or so until I can ride. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU ! And your efforts for making this happen! (sure was an awesome idea to get rid of that wasted space) I wonder how many cassette players are sitting on shelf's now? Jeff
  15. OK folks I set a date it can be changed but need a bit of input. I get a bit impatient waiting so I figured I'd go ahead and start. Now if it's ok we'll get started on planing this event. So please check the rally section (regional) and voice your opinion. I'll give it about a week and then I'll put the date on the calendar. Sorry I get a bit bossy must be from being the oldest. Plus I've been asked about when it will be and I know some folks need to get their dates in for vacation except for those folks that have vacation everyday. Margaret

Here's something you folks up north might be intrested in. Merry Christmas!! http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php /topic,213971.0/topicseen.html
  17. Firstly I'd like to say thank you Don for the site & making it all possible. From reading here I know I'm not alone in saying that. To all those members who post / have posted to the tech section ( you know who you are) thank you very much as well. I have never had to ask a question about my Venture, because everything I need / want to know about the mc is here somewhere. My apologies for not interacting more on the forum, but am normally a man of few words anyway. Just my nature I guess. Would be great to meet some of you guys for a ride, M&E or something but doubt that will happen without some big changes in situation. (you never know) Thanks again folks Tony.
  18. I have a list of folks I know, all written in a book And every year at Christmas time I go and take a look And that is when I realise that those names are a part - Not of the book they are written in, but of my very heart. For each name stands for someone who has touched my life sometime, And left such a print of friendship that they are good friends of mine. And while it sounds fantastic for me to make this claim I really feel I am composed of each remembered name. And while you may not be aware of any special link, Just knowing you has shaped my life more than you can think. For once you’ve met somebody, the years cannot erase The memory of a pleasant word or of a friendly face. So never think my Christmas cards are just a mere routine Of names upon a Christmas list-forgotten in between. For when I send a Christmas card that is addressed to you, It’s because you are on a list of folks I am indebted to. For one is but a total of the many folks they’ve met And you happen to be one of those I prefer NOT to forget. And whether I have known you for many years or few, In some way you have had a part in shaping things I do. And every year when Christmas comes, I realise anew - The biggest gift life can give is knowing folks like you!! And may the spirit of Christmas that eternally endures, Leave its richest blessing in the hearts of you and yours. Merry Christmas Everyone Annie and Alan Collins
  19. Folks are talking about pluging the AIS to cure popping on decel. What and where is it? Thanks
  20. I've seen several posts of the past months that folks don't know where the VentureRider Merchandise area of the forum is. It is just a topic area of the forum and can be found on the forum home page. There you will find information about shirts, caps, patches, decals, etc. I have added a link to the upper menu bar on the far right side. It says VRStore. Hopefully that will make it easier for folks to find.
  21. I just got off the phone with Jeff and they finally got to TK. Now they get to wait to be taken to wherever they will get to sleep. They spent over 12 hrs waiting at the airport to find out if they were going or not. They had to sneak off to get food, because they weren't suppose to leave. Can't spend that long waiting for food, he's a venture rider member. Anyway those folks that asked what he might need I'll have to let you know when they get to check the place out. Right now he's looking forward to finding the shower and the bed. Margaret
  22. Tina and I are looking at buying a class a motorhome in the 35ft + range and we haven't a clue what it good or bad. We have read all the reviews and they are very conflicting so we figured we would ask you folks here as we know many of you own them and are not afraid to voice your opinion honestly. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks Mike and T
  23. I just added my Maintenance Day to the calendar so you folks can start signing up anytime you are ready. I think I had close to 200 folks last year. Can we set a new record? Here's a link to the date on the calendar to make it easy for you. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=153&day=2010-6-19&c=1 Details, hotel info, and etc. are here: [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41934]Freebird's Maintenance Day 2010 - VentureRider.Org[/ame]
  24. For all those interested, BMW in Greer SC is hiring 700 people at $13-$14/hr. They are saying manufacturing experience a plus. The job fair held today showed 600 folks. If you're interested go here: http://www.mau.com/pressroom/ not quite the right page, but you can take it from there. Good luck.
  25. Had an opportunity to deliver a Ford Ranger to my son in Las Vegas and decided that this would be a good excuse for a ride. The Venture fit in the short bed - well most of it - about 10 inches hung out on the tailgate. Anyway, got it there in one piece, except for a 3 corner crack in the left front lower fairing - had to get some plastic epoxy to fix that - not good as new but good from 6 feet. First time for cruising the desert and what an experience. Cool mornings, fierce hot days, and cool to cold nights. The colors in the Mojave as the sun sets are incredible. Had a talk with some rangers before heading out and they gave me a lot of valuable information. The suggested I have a NASA silver blanket for emergency cover from the sun, where long sleeves and pants to not get sunburn and loose too much body moisture, take 4 gallons of water for a 24 hour period, have someone expect a cell phone call at the end of the ride so they can notify authorities if you do not check in, take a tire repair kit and pump (had that covered), and a full tank of fuel of course. Folks don't realize that you could die in 5 hours without proper hydration and protection from the sun. The temp reached 118 F at about 2 in the afternoon. I travelled at about 70mph to not put the bike in too much of a strain because you tend to smell things getting hot, especially when the cooling fan comes on - which it does and then does not stop until you climb 3 or 4 thousand feet and drop 20 degrees. Met a few folks on Harleys but they did the too cool to talk bit..... so I just left them. You could smell those air cooled twins from 10 feet! It was a good day.
