  1. Our new 86 is a bit tall. Not dangerously tall, Tom is not quite flat footed, but the weight makes it a bit scary if the rider can't stand over the bike and have complete control. Is there a way to bring down the rear of the bike by say 2 inches? Thanks! Ginny in Denver-ish
  2. On my 89 with 45,000 miles on it, the cruise control works great.....if I hold the clutch lever all the way out with my hand. When I bought the bike 2 years ago, I relplaced the bushing, but that didn't help much. There is quite a bit of play between where the clutch cylinder quits pushing the lever outward and the end of travel where the cruise control senses that the clutch is released. It seems to me that maybe I want to replace or stretch the spring that is between the clutch cylinder and the lever bushing?? Anybody have any experience with this problem?? Frank D.
  3. Well I finally got my faring split. Turns out the hex bolts are 5mm on my 04 RSMV. Anyway with that being said can anyone tell me which connector is the Audio control unit connector? Thank you all for your help, it has been greatly appreciated. Chris
  4. Hi folks. I'm looking for a used air control grill that goes into the left side plastic engine cover for my 86 Venture Royale. Should be the same for 86-93 I think. Not sure when it happened, but I discovered it was all cracked up inside. Some of the flaps are missing, and some are broken. Even a damaged one will do. Maybe I can make one out of two with some Plastex. I checked on Ebay, and didn't see one at the moment.
  5. Father in-laws '89 Venture Royale is still throwing an E-4 code. I took the control box to the local TV repairman, he repaired several broken solder joints and went over all the conections. Any other idea's of why she is still throwing E-4, I am a Harley guy myself, all these electronics are hurting my brain. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time; Elvis
  6. Hi guys.. I'm not sure if it's because it's still cold or what but when engaging my cruise control, it will stay on but for only a few seconds and then dis-engage.. not hitting any bumps or birds to switch it off.. I remember reading somewhere that there may be cables that might be slopping or switches being made that can cause that.. Does anyone recall what where and how to adjust and / or check for this? At 70 mph in 5th gear, for example, would a tall wide windscreen and heavy winds be enough to cause the bike to do that? Cheers
  7. 05 RSTD cruise control will not stay on. Just started on the last ride it will stay on for about 3 miles then shuts down, I reset the switch and it will do the same not sure were to start.
  8. used my newly repaired cruise control swith today. It worked good. Used the pcv cement at Kregerdoodles. So far so good.
  9. Does anyone use some sort of manuel cruise control (non electronic)?
  10. Well it is official that I will be in Fort Worth TX from March 18 to 20. Airline tickets are bought and room is booked. I was volunteered/railroaded into helping a group of "kids" at Marquette University with their engineering competition. The task is to design a radio control aircraft to carry as much weight as possible within the design limitations. The rules do allow them to bring in an experienced pilot to fly the aircraft for safety reasons. That would be where I come in. I guess they do not want barly flyable 50lb aircraft wandering around out of control. This sounds like fun. I just do not know if I can keep up with these college seniors all night after the official stuff is over..... I think this could be fun.
  11. On my 83 VR I have been going through each system and part. Well I have now gotten to the air ride control and have a weird problem. It lights up and appears to work with the key in the accessory position but not when the key is in the on position. Any ideas? Shaun
  12. Had the bike out today, tried to engage cruise control.. and remembered that there was a quick trick to getting the cruise to stick to the desired speed, without waiting for the system to catch up (lagging).. but erhmm can't remember what it was.. double tap the set button? Double tap the Accel button? Regardless, the shake down cruise went well.. lots of mods and adjustments made to the bike this past winter and the bike performs well, almost like a different bike. But I couldn't get the cruise control to engage properly or stay on.. 3000 rpm at 60 mph in 5th.. with heavy winds.. wondering if that had anything to do with it.. Does anyone remember what that quick set trick was on cruise control? Cheers

    Did a few mods

Cold and rainy yesterday, Pam said let's hang here and do the mods you been wanting do so we installed a garage door opener took the seat off on the right side just above the battery mounted the control with 2 sided tape and with some cat-5 wire reason we use that it is low voltage and we got plenty of it then we put the button on the left side right under the seat in the plastic shield , the only tricky part was get the wires solder to the control. Now I don't have to fumble for it coming up to the door. Then we installed a 12v power supply on the left side rear where the cap is that was easy enough. Change the plugs at almost 30k miles on them that was a joke they looked brand new but I had the plugs figure do it now since I was I was that far into it.. I'm thankful Pam is 5' tall makes it for the short tight places for us, being 6'4 can be a pain twisting around.. I will have to say the garage door opener is the best mod I've done in awhile
  14. Today, I tried to use my cruise control, which normally works well. The set and resume lights lit up and then went out almost immediately. The on light did not come on. When I pushed the black power button again, none of the lights lit up. Every second time I pushed the black button, the same two lights (set and resume) would come on for just a second and then go out. Any suggestions on what the problem might be?
  15. Hi All, Does anyone have info on the Markland cruise control? I have an 83 VR1200 (1300 86 engine,) and it doesn't work currently. I would like to find some info, schematic, etc. on the electronics on it. When I got the bike, it would work intermittently. I took apart the head, and resoldered some connections that looked iffy, and then it worked fine. I rteplaced the wheat lamps in it, and it lights up, but now there is no response from the cruise unit, it does not pull the throttle cables like it should (not at all). This is the aftermarket one, not the factory VR cruise like the 84 on has. Thanks in advance!
  16. Back in June 09, I purchased a RSV and finally got my wife on the back of it after 27 years of hearing that there is no way she would ever get on a motorcycle. I guess after a couple of years working in ER that would do that to you. Well, I got her on and the question I have is, I feel the bike is a little top heavy and sometimes hard to control even when she is not riding with me. I have been told and have read that I should get a lowering kit, to help the balance and control of the bike. Just wondering if I should go ahead and make the adjustment or wait. I am suppose to get it done tomorrow. Any Ideas? Well all, I went and had the bike lowered, and for the short time I took it for a ride and come to a stop it was great. Just that short distance of 1 inch did make a difference. Thanks to all for the advice.
  17. I saw this today on the web and thou I don't think it would concern most of us I know it could effect some here. Larry http://portal.wowway.net/news/read.php?rip_id=%3CD9I6VPMO0%40news.ap.org%3E&ps=1011
  18. Hey gang, I've got the plastic off from working on the carbs and thought I'd lube the cables and check my cruise control that doesn't want to engage. Electronics seem to work but the cruise won't engage. I've opened up the cable cover where the pulleys are and noticed quite a bit of slack. See attached. Is that normal? Also, another problem I introduced is the spring fell out. What is the proper orientation of the spring. Any pics available?
  19. It seems my volume knob quit working. The speakers beep when I change FM stations. No display when rotating the volume control. This is true for radio, cassette and aux. All other displays work and I can cycle through every selection. There is sound when CB is on but I cannot control it with the colume knob. SP is selected not HS. Just wondering if anyone else has had this propblem before I begin tearing things apart. Semper Fi Mark
  20. Hey all gurus out there. I was wondering if anyone could please give me the pin out for the tuner port (8-pin din) on the 1st gen amp. I'm thinking about pulling both the cassette AND the tuner and just replacing them with a standard car stereo. If you look at the electronics it doesn't seem like it would be that hard. The power/volume control for the amp and the intercom all go directly to the amp and the tuner is a separate unit that could conceivably be pulled. All I need to know is the pin out on the amp. I would end up with two volume control knobs but that won't bother me. If I get the pin out and do this mod I'll be sure to include pictures and directions on how do it for anyone else who might be interested.
  21. A couple weeks back the neighbour who is a Used Equipment Manager at a Chev Dealer came home with a SS Camero. Had to take a look and he comes out and throws the keys to me and says take it for a ride. Was not saying no. Naugh-T and I took off for a little ride while he had supper. Sure is a nice looking car. When I got in I had to lower the seat to the lowest point and even then I was touching the roof and when I put the seat back to a comforatble spot there is NO room in the back seat. Never took the Traction control off but was able to hit a few times and man that thing goes and it stays straight. Anyway 30 minutes of fun and a few pictures was worth it. Brad
  22. This morning my buddy Bobby went down, a guy in a truck pull out in frount of him, he managed to dodge the truck but lost control of his Electra Glide and went down, right leg broken just below the knee and just above the ankle, both bones tibula and fibula. No other injuries, was taken to Tifton hospital and then transfered hughston medical, he did not want a rod in his leg but I think he going to have one. The part that really got us was the trooper said because there was no contact between the vehicles that there was no evidence that the guy( one of the othropedic surgeons who the trooper knows)pulling out in frount on him caused Bobby to crash, it appeared to him the Bobby just lost control and dropped his bike. The insurance companies could sort it out. He just was not going to right anyone at fault. A""hole. Gregg
  23. I have an 87 and the machanic took the bike apart to do some work and the cables are shot. He tried getting new ones but said they were no longer in existence. These are special cables because they go through the cruise control. My question is: Is there somewhere where I can get new cables? Does anyone have decent cables from a parts bike? Where do I get a parts/maintenence/ diagraphm book to trouble shoot the cruise control if not working correctly? Does anyone have a working cruise control from a parts bike? Thanks Woody Email to byekryam@aol.com
  24. I just thought I'd pass this along for any of you VR riders who just love to enjoy your cruise control. Over a month ago I replaced my throttle cables; still a little stiff. Wrench and I decided to replace the cruise control cables as well. POINT: it too him over 3.5 weeks to find them, so they are getting scarce. Mine cost me a little less than $63. At 71 years and on an 86 not sure I'll now buy a spare set. HOWEVER: the cruise just climbs up hills without any of those familiar 'drops.' I have no idea how long that will last, but for now I'll enjoy it! Meanwhile, off Tuesday with dogman (Dave) who is driving to Ft Collins, CO, from Toronto, Canada. We will be taking 14 W off I-25 past FC, to Cameron Pass (10,276 Ft), to Steamboat Springs, to Glennwood Springs; There will be an overnighter there, with Dave in his trailer camper and me in a motel. Then we split as he heads to Los Vegas where his wife is flying in for their vacation, and I head back home. That is, IF I last that long! LOL JackZ aka DePreach
  25. It didnt happen all the time but travelling 70 mph it seemed like the engine dropped to a lower speed it even with the the cruise control it would kick off than i twist the throttle and Im back off running again
