After synchronizing the carb’s within 10 mmHg (each column) using the Carbtune Pro (at an idle between 1,000 – 1,100 RPM) on a 2006 RSTD the engine idle then randomly fluctuates between 730 and 1750 RPM’s. Obviously, when this change in idle speed occurs the previous adjustment (in vacuum) to match all columns exceeds 10mmHg. You can adjust the idle adjust screw to change the engine idle speed but this adjustment does nothing to stop the idle speed from randomly changing. What could be causing this to occur? Thanks 2 Flights

I have a new 130 /MT90HB series front tire in the classifieds for sale. I haven't even taken it out of the shipping wrapper. I don't plan on using it now since I decided to go with a rear designed tire up front on the trike. I can bring it to Don's MD for anyone wanting to do the tire change there, change it out for local buyers, or work out shipping arrangements. Larry

My troubles began about a month ago when I had an oil change and decided to try a synthetic by using Mobile 1 20w-50. My whine (which really didn't bother me) turned into a scream. I talked with the service manager and he grudgingly agreed to get me an "I" basket and we both agreed on going back to Dino. The factory tech suggested Yamalube (surprise) 20w-50. When I first drove the bike it seemed to be considerably better-the scream back to a whine and at a different pitch. A 100 miles later the whine is getting louder and so I decide to try Rotella 15w-40 and major difference. I'm beginning to believe it's the oil viscosity and will try 10w-30 at the next oil change (I've had 3 oil changes in the last 200 miles). It may not be just the basket but also viscosity. For the 1st 4000 miles I was using Yamalube 10w-40 and the whine didn't bother me. I had thought my troubles began when I went to synthetic, but I now believe it was because of the change to 20w-50. After I enjoy my bike again for a while, I may try synthetic again but at no higher than 40 weight-I think Amsoil makes a 10w-30. Something to think about!

Ignition timing – Check the timing and/or adjust, How to? Since I am in the process of doing some maintenance on my 06 RSTD (sync of carbs, installation of new plugs, oil change, lubrication etc, I thought I should also check or adjust the ignition timing. What are the procedures / guidance for doing this work? Where is the fuel filter located on the 06 RSTD motorcycle and how difficult is it to change this filter since I will have the fuel tank removed during this work. Are there any kits available for making this task any easier in the future? Thanks 2 Flights

... as I'm noticing less and less new threads and/or posts showing up. Looks like we're finally shedding the crappy weather we've been having. Today, tomorrow, and Sunday all sunny and warm ... it is a welcome change from rain, cold, high winds, hail, etc that has been going on for weeks. I just "might" take the scoot out...after I clean it of all the cobwebs!!

I was wanting to know if they make this piece the same for all the years between 83-93? The reason I am asking is because when I put my bike back together again and started riding it my front fender is hitting on the radiator cover and scratching my paint off. I have two different sets of these top and bottom and I don't know which set they used. I know where this is a front end crash that it could have very well bent the frame but I don't see where it is bent and I am hoping that I can just change these and change the rake on the front of the bike. I also notice when I ride it that it is hard to control at very low speeds. 1988 venture with no air in front forks

Clutch fluid is getting dark and glass window is full so I thought I would change it. Is there a tech article on how to change the fluid somewhere, I can,t seem to find it. Thanks.
-
I got to tell you I'm not much for preventive maintenance. Sure I change the oil and plugs fairly regularly. Usually change the tires before the threads are showing but I never have changed the brake fluid or the fluid in the clutch. Just added as needed. I will also add I've been riding for probably longer then most of you folks be alive. Now, recently, last Thursday to be exact my clutch failed, no fluid. The slave cylinder was leaking big time. I ordered the repair kit and all the gaskets. Both cases on the left side have to be pulled to get at that berger. Long and the short of it is the cylinder housing was so pitted I don't think I could have honed them all out. Maybe but I decided I didn't want to have to redo the job a second time. To get to the part you have to take the exhaust pipes off the left side as well as the foot rest, the shift linkage and the hanger for the exhaust pipe. Morale of the story is a 20 minute clutch fluid change would have saved me 3 or 4 hours of labor and $150.00 in parts....... Hummm, maybe I'll change the fluid in the brakes while I'm waiting for the parts. BOO

I have the rear tire off of the 89 for a tire change. the question is, what needs to be taken off the rim ?do i need to take the rotor off of the rim before it goes to the tire changer? This is the first time I have taken one apart for the tire replacement. And is there anything that gets done other than cleaning the hub and regreasing the teeth? Is there anything else in there i need to take apart and service?

Well, I finally got around to changing out the plugs. Only 10 k on the 07 RSTD but the book calls for change at 8k. Called several shops; they wanted to charge between $100 and $125 plus parts---wow! Went down to local auto supply and a purchased 4 new plugs for a bit over $10. Took off the tank and was able to get at the plugs--not too bad at all! She actually started right off----

Okay I just got my venture and it is an 83. I am going to change the oil and I understand that the tranny shares oil with the engine. After reading a few things on the net I have decided, even if momentarily, to use rotella 15-40. I have used this oil before in cars and liked it very well but I do realize this application is not a car, open for thoughts.... In all my autos I run amsoil and like it very well but amsoil here is starting to get hard to get ahold of... but I do not want to change a bike over to a synthetic due to not knowing what kind of oil was used before and if it might change things with internals. If someone can give you some insight on this I would most definitely be happy. I am going to go with the E3 plugs and will let forum know how that goes. Now what I need is some mirrors. My bike came with no mirrors and the dealer wants 105 apiece. I found a place on line that advertises that they are half of what a dealer charges for used ones but gee there price was 145 a piece for a used one... I have seen a set on ebay for 40 but they were ensribed with the last owners pilot and navigator name.... i missed the auction but I guess I could of gotten new mirror for it.. Also is Yamaha the place to get the raditor hoses? Mine setup for quite a while so I feel real confident they will be go at any given time or when I get the furthest from home...lol..

I just got my bike back from Schraders Yamaha in Yorkton SK, and Ive had a chance to put a couple of hundred Kms on it in the last few days and its so nice to have no oil leaks! As some of you are aware ive been battling an oil leak or 2 for a couple of years now. Ive tried to get to the bottom of it, but could never seem to get it figured out. I managed to get the leak from the oil level sensor fixed, and was still leaking a bit out of the gear indicator switch (it was cracked) and the biggest leak was the infamous stator wire grommet issue. I was having trouble to find anyone to work on my G1 that wasnt a hack locally, so did a lot of checking and found that Schraders was highly recommended and the mechanic (his name is Harley beleive it or not) likes Ventures and knows them like the back of his hand. While it was in for the oil leak Schraders asked if it was ok to do a free inspection on my bike, I gave the ok, and they found my brakes, need new pads, and a new air filter. I also had them do an oil change . They saved my old parts to show me that they really did need replacing as well. I have to say that Schraders was a pleasure to deal with, and I even found the bill reasonable for the work done, I thought that a 550 dollar bill for replacing a gear indicator, oil change, brake pads, air filter, and fix the stator wire oil leak was very fair. VERY pleasant people and welcoming, they are about a 2 hour drive from Regina but worth it to me. They also have a very nice 09 RSV sitting in the show room that could be had for a good price according to the service desk guys. the sticker on it was 19k cdn, they figured I should be able to get 4k on a trade in with my bike, but i like my G1 so why change now!! After dealing with them I can see why they are Saskatchewans largest powersport dealer, it was an all around good experience. Brian:banana:

After saying last year that im done with mods to the bike, some fools here come up with more parts to sell us and we, like sheep, shell out bucks for them. A simple tail light mod, like adding 2-30 red led strips to the rear as a run/brake light combo turned onto Sky Doc's R1 caliper conversion, which turned into replacing all brake/clutch lines with SS lines which turned into rebuilding the rear caliper and new HH pads, and only the best for me, buying that new 5.1 brake fluid which turned into replacing the rear valve cover gasket which turned into replacing the spark plugs which turned into flushing the cooling system which turned into adding Carbon Ones crash bar bracket, which is turning into 2 more smaller red led lights on the back to replace a burned out one, which will lead to an oil change and rear fluid change. Add a wash and wax and im done for good....... Yea Right!!

Hey Boss, Is there a way I can change the title to thread that is visible other that in the first post? I see where you can get to change the title of a thread but it is only viewable in the first post. I would like to see the change in the list of thread titles like when you select New Posts or go tone of the other forums. Why Is ask is that one of my recent threads has been solved and I had made a mistake in the title. My intentions were to fix the error and let everyone know the issue had been solved. I can live with it either way, just hoping it were possible. Thanks, Rick

I happened across this on Craigslist. http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/mcy/1651149236.html Would you pay $185 for an oil change if it was done in your driveway? I wonder if they'd double the price for a V-four.

On our way home from the International this year we plan on stopping at six flags at Gurnee Ill just north of Chicago. We want to camp with our camper and were wondering if anyone has any advice on this. The original plan was to stop at the Wisconsin Dells but you know how plans change.

I'm very new to RSV's. I did a search and didn't find what I was looking for. And looked at Venture history. After +/- 2004 did the fuel tank ever change size or shape? Is there somewhere that shows tank emblems and what they indicate?
