  1. Guys I ship 5 plus bikes a year, I purchased a bike back in November in boston, Hire this shipping company: www.dreamridetransport.com I just got the bike today. At one point I had thought It was a lost cause. The shipper called the week after he picked it up and said he had broke down in N.C. I wasnt sure why he was there as he was dropping off in Florida then headed up to Memphis. Communication Started to get less and less, his phone numbers got shut off, I called the local law enforcement where his business was and he was using an alias. Finally after relentless pursuit the guy TOM GREGG called and told me that my bike was in storage in North Carolina. I called to confirm set up my own shipper and it was picked up, I of course had to pay a small storage fee as the shipped had stopped paying it. I received my bike with no keys or paperwork. This guy works independently and off uship.
  2. I believe it is called the needle daiphragm for the carb, but im not entirely sure. Started my rebuild today and noticed all the rubber boots had holes in them. Anyone who knows that its called would be much appreciated
  3. I was at Radio Shack to get resistors for the battery light by-pass and the salesman showed me a smarter than me phone app called ELECTRODROID. This app covers way more than I will ever understand. But it's pretty cool.
  4. Getting ready to change coolant and I'm using the "method one" write up by V7Goose......what I can't find anywhere is the torque specifications for the "fake cylinder fins" bolts. They are called "cyclinder side covers" in the manual. Does anyone have that info??? Thanks: Bruce
  5. Awhile back I read a post on a recall for HD baggers. It was a brake light switch. As it turns out mine is one that needs the recall. Along with all the talk on that subject I remembered that somebody mentioned that the goldwings had a similar recall. I called my buddy today and told him about the wing recall. He called me about 15 minutes later after checking on his bike. Turns out his wing needs to be checked over as well. So a BIG thanks to this site for helping others out..........
  6. What a week - Last Wednesday Linda and I went to Canajoharie NY, I had one of those throat tickles. No problem - just a halls or two . Thursday we returned with 1100 lbs of Spaghetti sauce boxed up in the bed of the truck. just East of Buffalo we ran into a little rain that turned into a white out and the road cleared up for maybe 2 miles. Then more snow and another white out but this time it was hail. Scared the crap outta me ! The 2 hour drive from Buffalo turned out to be the drive from - well, you know where. Started coughing during the hail - Friday I called the Dr. to get my "cold" treated. Nobody available. Take something and drink lottsa liquids. OK - Saturday - spent the entire day in my recliner with a blanket and in half a stupor. Sunday at 12:15 Linda called, somebody rear ended me. Off I went. Got back home and back in the recliner with my blankie Monday - 11:20, Dr. said GHeeeeez never seen a throat that red and inflamed. Spent the rest of the day in the recliner with my blankie Tuesday - still got my blankie but this time some drugs and Sangria. Insurance called, get car fixed, we mail you a check and if it costs more have the body shop let us know. Can't wait for Wednesday - If we're lucky, we'll get her car back on the 5th of Dec. - the day before we leave for Australia
  7. I placed an order back on Aug 22 for the HID Motorcycle kit. They sent me an email with a tracking number that Monday. A couple of days later, used the tracking and it said received notice to ship. So I called HIDCountry, they said we thought we would be sending it out, but the item is on back order, will be sent the following week. This went on until last Tuesday, Sept 13. Was told parts are in, would be shipping to me and have it by Thursday, Sept 15. Called Friday, Sept 16, told them no email, no tracking number, and no package. Was told don't know what happened but will ship tonight, well of course not package Tuesday or today. Called yesterday and today, no answer nor no response to emails. So now I am left with credit card company fighting this, but just wanted to let all know NOT to use this company.
  8. My right rear speaker just started making weird noises when I drive. It seems when the wind hits it just right it just loses it's crispness (if that's a word). Should that be covered under warranty? The bike will be 5 years old at Christmas. I called the dealer and he said he would check but sorta said it wasn't. He never got back to me to confirm. If it is not covered I'll have to look at replacing it somehow. Thanks
  9. Finally got home after some crazy days of burnedout clutch.the bike ran great thu the backroads of Ky,Ill,and Mo. Got to Branson, got in traffic on the hills clutch started slipping. On the 3rd hill had to pull over it quite moving.Called AAA to haul the bike to the timeshare 3 miles away ,they said NO because I didn't have RV coverage.Had to leave it in a parking lot.Called the Yamaha dealer in Harrison Ark.they said it would cost between $450 to $500 to fix and $150-$180 to get a rollback to haul it 38miles to the dealer. So I knew where to go,VENTURERider forum. The responce was overwheming.First Etcswtoe called with names of members close to Branson ,second Dik01 ,who live about 50 miles away, calle d and offered to get a trailer to take it to the dealer, third Randy R called told me of condor post of bleeding the clutch and then called Goose to call me, and then Goose called me .He talked me out of taking it to the dealer. He walked me step by step how to Repair the clutch and also the phone number of where to get the new clutch.Followed PCW"s and GOOse"s instructions ,had the bike's clutch in 1 1/2 hrs. ANyone can put a clutch in it is simple fix.My Brother-in-law was so supprised my the calls that he has applied for membership.Anyone who doesn't join a club like this one has to be nuts. YOU RIDERS made me realize that there are still people in this country who care. TO ALL THE CLUB MEMBERs WHO HELP ME I WANT TO GIVE YOU A SPECIAL THANK YOU.
  10. My shock shipped on time and arrived yesterday from Works. Followed the instructions on the other Venture site and in under an hour i was test riding it. Other them removing the right side saddle bag for visability, i didnt remove any other major part. A swivel socket and extension bar did the trick for the top bolt and the old crusty shock dropped out. New one fit right in there with mild persuassion. Easy job. (Another big thumbs up for my CarbonOne lift adapter) I measured the sag or whatever its called and it seemed to be pre set. Initial ride was great but after 2 months of no shock anything would have been an improvement. Im sure this thing will work out great. bTW, Hagon Shocks called me this week to tell me they finally got the heavy weight springs in stock. Too late for me but i was going with them based on reviews, one year longer warranty and a better price. Hagon might now be an option if your built like me (big boned )
  11. Well I received my F4 +2 and VERY satisfied with looks and function. One problem was as I was installing,VERY CAREFULLY,I noticed a very very small scratch just above the vent. I could not see it at all from the riders seat but off the bike and looking thru towards the sun I could see it. Well I immediadely called F4 and talked to Don. Without ANY questions he said please let me send another one immediately,I said no let me ride it first and see if it bothers me so he said OK BUT I want to discount it to you if you keep it. Well I never could see the scratch riding it so my mind started playing tricks on me and I started worrying about it and called to get him to send another. No questions asked he is sending another and paying the freight. Luckily I have a friend that rides a GL1800 and he called Don at F4 to see if he could just buy mine instead of me sending it back to F4 so Don at F4 made him a great deal on it and all has worked out great...Purpose of this is to give Kudos to a well run company with GREAT customer service.
  12. Wanted to ride my ole 83 standard & learn how to sync carbs, troubleshoot backfiring/eratic tach, hit or miss headlight and meet yall. As expected rush jobs came in at last minute + son in law called & asked if I'd play 2 men and a truck this weekend. WILL I EVER GET TO PLAY WITH MY TOYS?
  13. Today I ended up on the side of the road in Virginia near exit 12. Front tire blew out, it was three in the afternoon and AMA roadside assistance expected me to know where to actually tow the bike to for a fix. I called my wife instead and she looked up shops online. Found a place called Stuart's Cycle Shop in Henderson NC. She called, and even though he is not open on Saturday, he came up to Virginia got the bike on a trailer and took me to his shop. He had tires in stock, fixed me up with an E3 and got me back on the road pretty quick. The charges were 60 for labor, 60 for pickup, and 139 for the tire. Considering that I would probably had to wait in a hotel until a regular shop opened again, I was more than pleased. He was a great guy to deal with, even had a good time swapping bike stories on the ride back to his shop.
  14. 19. Q: Why do men's clothes have buttons on the right while women's clothes have buttons on the left? A: When buttons were invented, they were very expensive and worn primarily by the rich. Since most people are right-handed, it is easier to push buttons on the right through holes on the left. Because wealthy women were dressed by maids, dressmakers put the buttons on the maid's right! And that's where women's buttons have remained since. Q: Why do ships and aircraft use 'mayday' as their call for help? A: This comes from the French word m'aidez -meaning 'help me' -- and is pronounced, approximately, 'mayday.' Q: Why are zero scores in tennis called 'love'? A: In France, where tennis became popular, round zero on the scoreboard looked like an egg and was called 'l'oeuf,' which is French for 'egg.' When tennis was introduced in the US, Americans (mis)pronounced it 'love.' Q. Why do X's at the end of a letter signify kisses? A: In the Middle Ages, when many people were unable to read or write, documents were often signed using an X. Kissing the X represented an oath to fulfill obligations specified in the document. The X and the kiss eventually became synonymous. Q: Why is shifting responsibility to someone else called 'passing the buck'? A: In card games, it was once customary to pass an item, called a buck, from player to player to indicate whose turn it was to deal. If a player did not wish to assume the responsibility of dealing, he would 'pass the buck' to the next player. Q: Why do people clink their glasses before drinking a toast? A: It used to be common for someone to try to kill an enemy by offering him a poisoned drink. To prove to a guest that a drink was safe, it became customary for a guest to pour a small amount of his drink into the glass of the host. Both men would drink it simultaneously. When a guest trusted his host, he would only touch or clink the host's glass with his own. Q: Why are people in the public eye said to be 'in the limelight'? A: Invented in 1825, limelight was used in lighthouses and theatres by burning a cylinder of lime which produced a brilliant light. In the theatre,a performer 'in the limelight' was the centre of attention. Q: Why is someone who is feeling great 'on cloud nine'? A: Types of clouds are numbered according to the altitudes they attain, with nine being the highest cloud. If someone is said to be on cloud nine, that person is floating well above worldly cares. Q: In golf, where did the term 'Caddie' come from? A. When Mary Queen of Scots went to France as a young girl,Louis, King of France, learned that she loved the Scots game 'golf.' So he had the first course outside of Scotland built for her enjoyment. To make sure she was properly chaperoned (and guarded) while she played, Louis hired cadets from a military school to accompany her. Mary liked this a lot and when returned to Scotland (not a very good idea in the long run), she took the practice with her. In French, the word cadet is pronounced 'ca-day' and the Scots changed it into 'caddie. Q: Why are many coin banks shaped like pigs? A: Long ago, dishes and cookware in Europe were made of a dense orange clay called 'pygg'. When people saved coins in jars made of this clay, the jars became known as 'pygg banks.' When an English potter misunderstood the word, he made a container that resembled a pig. And it caught on. Q: Did you ever wonder why dimes, quarters and half dollars have notches (milling), while pennies and nickels do not? A: The US Mint began putting notches on the edges of coins containing gold and silver to discourage holders from shaving off small quantities of the precious metals. Dimes, quarters and half dollars are notched because they used to contain silver. Pennies and nickels aren't notched because the metals they contain are not valuable enough to shave.

Tonight a friend called and said his front brakes are lock up both sides, so I said master cylinder is bad or the caliber pistons.. He was blocking traffic so we called a wrecker they towed to a parking lot in a safe area. Then I notice some wiring hook to the master cylinder trace the wires back to the inside to a toggle switch flip the switch and brakes unlock. He just bought the car and that switch was use for burn outs when, I guess when you are racing.. This is the first I ever seen or heard it. Anyone ever heard of this?
  21. Or does it seem that nobody bothers to answer their phones anymore? I'm not talking about my friends or relatives either. However some of them don't like to answer their phones either. I'm talking about businesses, employers, etc.. Just to name a couple, I've been trying to reach a guy who contacted me via email about a lab tech. job and he never answers his phone. I keep leaving messages but he doesn't call back. Last summer I had applied for another job not to far from home that payed well. The woman who was in charge of setting up new employee start dates called me but called the wrong number. I got her message about setting up a my start date about 5 days later. I called her asap but she wouldn't return my calls. I got a hold of the main office to explain what happened and I was told I didn't pass their physical. I asked what par of the physical I didn't pass and I was told that the people who performed the physical didn't supply that information. Which sounded fishy seeing as how the message was to discuss my start date. There has been more than one time when I was looking for some goodies of some sort during normal business hours and they didn't answer the phone, I simply left a message that seeing as how there was nobody to answer the phone, I was going to take my business elsewhere. The last tie I was looking for a dentist, I made about 4 calls to different dentists until I got to one that was actually open or bothered to answer the phone. Now I know people get busy or have other issues arise, but it seems to be happening more and more. Ok, ok, enough ranting.I just needed to vent a bit. I've just been looking for a better job and it doesn't seem as though I'm being taken very seriously. I'm glad riding season is almost here! Bill,

  24. Hi Folks, I'm considering buying a trailer to pull behind my scoot. I found one that is kinda cool. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/83%20Venture%20trailer%20hitch/beertrailer.jpg But, it's got (what I consider to be) an odd sorta hitch. Does anybody know what this is called and more importantly where do I find the mating half? http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/83%20Venture%20trailer%20hitch/hitch.jpg
