1. Hey guys, I've got a 96 royal star and I'm trying to find a replacement windshield. None of the vendors I talk to can identify it so, I'm hoping one of you might be able to help. This is the best pic of the bracket i have right now. I'll try and snap some better pics later. Thanks!!! http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/af321/burgurboy/IMG_20111207_194425.jpg
2. Looking for one of these, the box, bracket and the bolt. I'd like to make a sw box out of it. If you have one let me know what you would want for it.
3. Anyone know where one can get stainless steel or chrome channeled U shape long bracket (The U channel be 1 in X 1 in X 1 in and about the length of the rear trunk mount) where it could be mounted under the far rear of the trunk mount so the open end is to the front on the bike and the closed end is facing the rear of the bike where I could install from Custom Dynamics Sequential Amber LED Turn Signals on the ends and in the center a Custom Dynamics LED Stop Lamp. Then under the bracket I could install a couple of white lights hooked to a push switch where I can get the attention of cagers approaching dangerously. Even an L shape bracket would work. Or maybe someone has a good suggestion as to where one could mount the lights described, except drilling into the plastic trunk for an MKII.
4. The used 99 RSV I recently purchased had a back seat with it, but it wasn't attached. I'm not sure that it is the right seat and I'm hoping someone can give me some insight about a) the seat and b) how to mount it. This one has a rear bracket on it, but it won't reach the back mounting bolt because there is a fender-attached bracket that is raised off the fender about an inch and it gets in the way of this particular bracket reaching the back bolt. Do I have the wrong bracket? Does that make sense? I'm attaching photos of the seat and the back fender to help show the issue. Thanks! - Michael
5. Wife and I wanted to add a trunk / tour pack for longer trips, to our Tour Deluxe. I bought a trunk bracket from a wrecked late model Venture. First thing I found was that the posts for the latch for the detachable passenger back rest are in the location where two mounting bolts need to be for the Venture bracket. So, I drilled them out from the back, then tapped holes for bolts. The weld from the pins left me with enough metal to get about 4 threads in each hole. I mounted the bracket...then.... I had purchased an aftermarket Harley tour pack as it had the largest capacity of any of the trunks I saw on the internet. It arrived, very nice with passenger back rest. Now my problem. The bottom of the tour pack is formed to fit a different bracket. It isn't just flat. Of course, these inverse ribs don't align with the Venture bracket. Has anyone dealt with this issue?
6. What is the purpose of these little buggers? accept to keep us buying new brackets all the time? When the second bracket broke this year, I took both off. Front end actually looks better without them... IMHO.
7. Last year I noticed my lower deflectors were vibrating a lot. At the end of the season I checked closely and saw rust on the top of the bracket and upon even closer look one bracket clearly was cracked. I ordered the brackets online and today we had a heatwave here on Long Island (50F!) so I tackled the replacement. Below are the pictures of what I found;both were cracked; replacement is straight forward however a couple of observations: - the outside bracket screws were so hard to get out I almost stripped the heads. The insides were ok. Something about the position of the outside bolts ? Happans to also be the brackets cracked on the outside of the bracket. - Use locktite on all of the bracket screws. The factory did. - I stripped the 5mm heads of the passing lamp bracket using a ball head allen key. (too lazy to remove the front fairing). My local H/W store gave me stainless 6mm head cap bolts. A bit more confidence cranking on the bolt with a 6mm ball head allen key. Question: Anyone know what the hole is for on the bottom of each bracket? (see pic) Andrew
8. After replacing my tire on my '83 venture, i think i reinstalled my rear wheel incorrectly. If you are looking at the rear from behind, in which order should the washers go on? When i installed them in the order i thought they came off, the wheel would barely turn. Should there be a washer between the caliper bracket and the swing arm? At this time i do not have a washer between the swingarm and caliper bracket, but im afraid it may be wrong? It drives fine, but i want to be sure incase the brakepads are missalligned.

Help

My right side lower cowling to the right of the rad. and blocks the wind from your leg. And covers the air breather. It is broke from the mounting bracket. Anyone know of a good glue or epoxy I can use to try and fix it?
10. Does anyone know what size tap I would need to retap a hole in my windsheld bracket I have one that seems cross threaded? Thanks
11. Ok - I give up. I'm looking for info on the brackets that go on the guard to bolt the carbon one highway supports to. I bought a set from Carbon one at MD but don't have a clue what other bracket I need. These aren't anything more than a hunk of metal w/o the clamps to bolt to. Thanks
12. Thnking of adding the sportech fairing to my RSTD. For those that have added one to a RSTD I have some questions. 1) Is there any noticeable difference in wind protection at interstate speeds, 70+ mph. 2) After going through the effort and expense would you recommend it or just look for another mc like the RSV. 3) I like the looks of the sporttech, but like most they only have a mounting bracket for the Roadstar. Will the roadstar bracket work with the RSTD? And in general, those that have done it the pros and cons, tks.
13. Hey gang, The guy I bought the bike off of had the center stand tied up to the frame with a hose clamp. Turned out the spring and triangular shaped bracket were missing. I got the spring, but Yamaha doesn't make the plate anymore. Does someone know where I can get one, or would be kind enough to give me enough specs to make one myself. The center stand is much nicer when you want to work on the bike. Thanks, Phil
14. Todays project was getting the battery box fabricated and installed. Made a two piece box out of 1/8" aluminum. Mounted a front coil bracket from a VMax on the bottom. This bracket will hold the two front cylinder coils & the Vboost motor. Rear pair of coils will be mounted rear of the back heads under the fuel tank. That's tomorrows project. Using the VMax rear bracket for those. One thing that comes to mind. Don't try this at home kids !!. Unless you have a lot of patience and enjoy tinkering with stuff. Getting some of this stuff to fit up right has been a series of try it, remove it, rework it, repeat, repeat. But it is fun. I am having as good a time rebuilding this bike as I will riding it. Gary
15. Latest project for the scooter sunk to a new low. I bought an adjustable backrest bracket from a 2007 Harley Road Glide and mounted it on the bike. I didn't get the mounting bar for the backrest or the actual backrest so I fabricated one up. The mounting brackets were also McGyvered from stock steel pieces . I had to remove a section of the plastic base for the seat and a little foam for the bracket clearance. It is a removable backrest and the tilt can be adjusted forward and back. There is a cable made for it that I didn't get. The tilt feature is something I really don't care if I have, since once I get it set where I want it, it won't need to move again. I can trigger the tilt but the seat needs to be off in order to do it without the cable. There are two pictures of the orange bike that is a Road Glide with the stock bracket mounted to it. I don't have the backrest covered or the bar powder coated. Those are tomorrows project. Cost for the bracket on ebay was $46 with shipping and I have about another $30 in a couple of pieces of steel and the foam and covering material. It really does make the bike more comfortable. Road it for about 40 miles tonight and I like it. Bike didn't seem any slower with the HD part on it either. Gary
16. I bought a set of saddlebag rails for my 2000 RSV. It didn't come with directions but are pretty easy to figure. Now what I need to know is this....How do I get the plug out of the holet where the bracket mounts to on the backside of the saddlebag by the fender? Thanks for the help Rick
17. royal pain in the you know what. BUT................one of the first thing I found that was a total inconvenience was loading the cd changer. Wife and I with owning the bar and doing our own music have tons of cd's and I simply like the sound of a good cd. So in all my wisdon I thought the changer would look really goos standing up in the truck. 4 hours later its done and definetly not bragging but I really think it looks good I had an old cd changer laying in the shop that was junk, but as you know some people, namely me, keep everything cause you never know when you will need it. So with that being said the cord was quite long, and conveniently the plug had the same pin design. So I cut enough of it off so I had plenty to add and started in. NOW with that being said I DO NOT recommend anyone trying this unless you like to put yourself through hell like I do. They sell 13 pin extension cables, but for some reason my cable was broke already so I did not have anything to loose. First worked on mounting. I used gutter guard for a mounting base for 2 reasons, its nice and sturdy, and I had it. First remove the piece in the truck where the little storage pouch is, its held with 8 push pins, then I removed the pouch from it leaving me with this. I used the material as a templete. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc34b3127ccefc0b6215823d00000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ This little storage pouch is just stitched on, utility knife cured that. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc34b3127ccefc0b81cb433a00000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Had to remove this "bump" from the OEM mounting bracket. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc34b3127ccefc0bc3ee433e00000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Leaving me with my cut piece of gutter guard and bracket. A Little flat black touched things up. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc34b3127ccefc0a6cf923aa00000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Now then these changers have to have a setting changed to go from laying down (horizontal) to standing up (vertical) so it had to come out of the rubber insulator. I had absolutly no choice but cut the rubber, but no worries it look great now. Here is the adjustment that slides from H to V on both sides of changer http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc34b3127ccefc0bbd8ac25500000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Mounted the bracket to the gutter guard through the piece I removed that pouch from. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc34b3127ccefc0bcb6c43b800000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ When I got done I wound up with this. The INSIDE 4 holes I replaced the push pins with 3/16" aluminum pop rivets for added stability. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc34b3127ccefc0b8636035c00000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc34b3127ccefc0bbb85c25900000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Connect a few wires. Some are shielded, some have to be isolated. This is why Id recommend buying one. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc34b3127ccefc0bcdc1431600000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ But I have the shielding wrap. a good soldering pencil, and a ton of patience and wound up with this http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc34b3127ccefc0ade9e239400000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Now I have a nice empty side compartment that looks huge with the changer out of there. I put some RTV on the bolt that held the changer in place and threaded it back in just to tighten things up. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc34b3127ccefc0b05c4c24700000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Now I have the grommet with no wire in the side bag where the changer wire entered it, thats going to be where I install a power outlet since the hole is the perfect size, and the battery is really close.....
18. My license plate bracket broke from the weight of the harley light. Does anyone have an extra bracket laying around that they want to sell? Otherwise it off to the dealer to order P/N 4XY-84751-00-00 @ $25.62 + tax
19. I know there's a number of posts on this but I did mine slightly differently so thought a fresh thread was in order. Firstly tho, thanks to all the others who have posted info about this topic. From it, I was able to complete the wiring very easily and your posts gave me ideas about mounting my horn in a different location, plus retain the stock horn. As you'll see from the pics, I mounted my horn just aft of the passenger footrest. I made a small bracket to fit on the rear footrest mounting point. I put a bend into it to hook underneath the footrest bracket soas to counter the weight of the horn as there's only one bolt holding the bracket. Pics are in order of completed project --> creating the bracket. OH man that sukkah is loud! Question.... there's a small plastic air intake attachment on the bottom of the horn. Looks like a person should connect a tube up to it and route it somewhere. Any suggestions on what the rest of you have done with this??
20. I posted this in general tech but maybe nobody saw it. I need to know if the passenger seat bracket (the one that holds the front of the seat) is the same on a '96 and an '07 RSTD. Thanks y'all.......
21. Tell me please... is the passenger seat bracket...the one that holds the front of the seat..... the same on a '96 RSTD and an '07 RSTD or are they different? Thanks in advance.
22. Submitted by Tony Dathan. Problem: One of the common complaints about the Yamaha passing light kit for the RSV is that it mounts so close to the fairing that removing the fairing becomes very difficult requiring one to either remove or loosen the passing light bracket. Installation: When the bracket arrives you will need 2 3/8" NC x 3/4" long bolts and lock washers. I got these at Home Depot for under two bucks. Undo your light bar. Use the 8mm bolts to fasten the bracket where the light bar was and then using the 3/8" bolts bolt the light bar to the bracket. Most of us that have the bracket can now split the fairing without touching the light bar or at least just loosening it a few turns. Might depend on the actual lights you have. Basically you undo the light bar, put the bracket where the bar was, then mount the light bar to the bracket! How to get one: You can contact me at dathan@shaw.ca The price at this time is $27.50 USD. That includes the postage as well! The following are some shots I've taken in the past! #5 shows the clearance between the back of the light and the fairing. This started as a way of my being able to clean between the light and the fairing. Taking the fairing off without touching the light bar was just a huge bonus! Attached Thumbnails Sorry to bring this up again, but, I can't find these bolts at Home Depot or anywhere else. Must they be this exact size? The salesman I spoke with didn't know what NC was. I don't either. And is it two & three eighths by three quarters or the quantity 2 of size three eighths by three quarters. Could the NC mean non-corrosive, i.e., stainless steel? Finally, what do the numbers refer to? As you can see, I'm not too mechanical. Thanks in advance for being gentle. LOL
23. Trust me, if you have a 2nd Gen, you DO have broken tabs on the inner fairing where the ends of the windshield bracket SHOULD be attached! Even if your bike is quite new, they are broken. Here is a picture of what the tabs should look like - I'm holding the broken back piece to show how it would look if it was actually there: I'm sure Yamahaha would replace the inner fairing under warranty for this, but frankly, I don't want them to rip my bike apart to do it when the new ones will just break in the first week anyway. The relatively easy solution is to make a brace that will run from the bottom screw on the speaker to the screw in the windshield bracket. When positioned correctly, this will clamp the windshield bracket against the tiny bit of the tab that remains and stop all motion. To start with, you will need a couple of metal straps - they cannot be too thick, but must be more sturdy than hardware tape. I found this bracket in the framing section of the hardware store and just cut the two pieces off: Put one end on the speaker screw and then cut the bracket to the exact length that will just fit under the top lip of the inner fairing. You will have to use a pair of pliers to twist and curve the strap to fit flush against the rubber grommet that holds the nut. The correct position for the windshield bracket is to have the metal piece behind the fairing tabs, and the front lip of the rubber grommet on the outside of the tab. Here are a couple of pictures of how it should be positioned: In other words, if the tab was still in one piece, it would slide over the groove in the rubber grommet on the outside of the metal windshield bracket. You will need to make sure the windshield bracket is properly positioned on the remaining piece of the tab before you can mark the correct position for the screw hole in the new brace. Here are pictures of the brace before I cut it to length, the finished brace before mounting, and then a couple of different shots of the brace all fastened in place. Once you have those new braces in place they work like clamps and everything is rock solid.
24. Thought you guys might lke to see this . . . I needed some cargo space that would accommodate my lap top & case (just a bit too big to fit into either of my hard bags) as well as a few other work items. So, I did some surfing and purchased an after market case and then fabicated a bracket to mount it over my rear fender. Check out the attached photos. - Norm. NOTE: I ride solo as my wife has her own ride.
25. Is the Stebel horn bracket and wiring harness still available for purchase somewhere on the site, I can't seem to find them in the classified section. Thank you..
