  1. Anyone have a lead on the hf grease seal for their trailers? HF stocks bearing but not seals. Took my off to repack the bearings. Several auto parts stores and a trailer shop didn't have one that works. Got the closest fit and it's spitting grease. Thanks
  2. I'm not real happy with my self canceling turn signals on my Royal Star from what I've read on other threads I don't think there is anything wrong with them. They just seem to cancel too soon or too late if I have to turn them on a second time. Maybe I will get use too the way they work as I've only had the bike a couple of weeks, but anybody else noticed they are a little quirky?
  3. Well, I finally got around to changing out the plugs. Only 10 k on the 07 RSTD but the book calls for change at 8k. Called several shops; they wanted to charge between $100 and $125 plus parts---wow! Went down to local auto supply and a purchased 4 new plugs for a bit over $10. Took off the tank and was able to get at the plugs--not too bad at all! She actually started right off----
  4. My 83 venture seams to want to vear off from side to side going down the road at any speed. All I can find is the front pressure keeps going up to 22 psi. I set the guage to manual but it keeps going to auto and build pressure. Would this be the problem of the weaving or is it some thing else. The scoot went on craigslist the first of the week. Going to down size.
  5. I called my insurance company today because I was trading in my 2003 Harley Ultra for a 2010 Ultra. When I tried to change over the coverage I was told that they are no longer writing motorcycle policies in Maryland and that I could use their "General Agent" for the new bike. I have had insurance with them (USAA) since 1972 and have always had a motorcycle on my auto policy. Their partner agency is Progressive and their price was not out of line with what I was paying when it was on my auto policy but now I have two different companies to deal with and pay premiums to. Has anyone else run into this with USAA?
  6. Recommended plugs that I can buy at Canadian Tire or Auto Value? Replacing spark plugs requires tank removal? thnx
  7. Thanks to A1Bummer for providing this info and the pictures. If you need a new thermostat, there is a Napa #156 and on the Napa box was a #33708 that I was able to cross reference to a Stant #13758 at my local auto parts dealer. A stat at the MC stealer was ~$30 and at the auto parts dealer it was ~$7. All are 180* stats. Thanks, Bill
  8. Speedometer hasn't worked for a couple of months so I tore into it this evening. The inner cable is broke. I got both ends out but it was still plugged just about where it had broke. I straightened out a close hanger but it wasn't long enough so I put the cable back in upside down so that the nipple on the end came down against the clog and then I used the close hanger to push it through and worked it back and forth until it moved freely. I doubt any stores have the cable in stock and I have the entire dash pulled apart to get the cable loose. I would like to put the cable back in before so that I don't have to tear apart again when the part arrives. I went to an auto parts store (Advance Auto Parts) to get a universal inner cable and the people never heard of them. I then went to another part store (Autozone) and after waiting for 10 minutes I told the counter guy what I wanted and he said that he had laid it out for ME when I called. I told him I hadn't called so he looked around and said he had no other ones. By now it was 8:45 and I never had time to go to another parts store before they all closed. After this long prologue the question is: has anyone ever used an after market auto universal inner cable before and if so, was there a particular model car? It's hot outside and if it wasn't for this I would be out riding. I sure don't want to wait a week or 10 days to get one from Yamaha. Anyone have any information? As usual, thanks in advance for any help, Dick
  9. Reed

    tachometer

where can I get a portable tach for checking the RPMS. to sink the carbs? 08 venture dont have a tach. I don't need to have it mounted on the bike, Just for shop use. Called O'reilly auto parts. They don't have aney thing that will work.
  10. I am confused about all the news of GM and Chrysler closing dealerships! I don't pretend to know anything about the workings of auto dealerships, but how does closing them make the auto makers more profitable? Basic economics tells me that having an outlet for your product is necessary. Seems like VOODOO economics to me.
  11. Has anyone had problems with the auto volume control. My 84 has gave me problems since ive had it. I can set the volume to where i can hear it comfortable while riding and all of the sudden the thing blairs loud. So i turn it down and a few minutes later im turning it back up because its gotten to quiet. it does this constantly and it drives me crazy. I have removed the bottom unit where the auto volume control is located and tried cleaning it with no results. Does any one know how or if it can be by passed or do i need to replace it.
  12. I put this kit on a Kawa Vulcan a few years back and pd $50 here: http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?action=detail&model_ID=1&Category_ID=48&manufacturer_ID=223&product_ID=6421&sblid_name=detail I found the same ringed led lights at Advanced Auto (Discount Auto) in FL @ $6 a 2 pack & installed on my Honda with the same results! Now the store does not carry these. Cannot find these ringed led lights locally anywhere. Anyone know what I am talking about and if so where I can find them online or where?
  13. I upgraded my front turn signals to LEDs and now they flash faster than normal.. Knew it might happen.. Wondering if this http://www.customled.com/products/flasher_relay/flasher_relay.htm will work on the Venture, and still keep the auto cancel feature.. I've read somewhere non-load dependent replacement flasher won't work with auto cancel signals??? Or would I be better off just getting the 7.5 ohm load. http://www.customdynamics.com/loadequalizer.htm
  14. Where do you buy the replacement oil filter? Yea the Yamaha dealer has them but only other place I found was tractor supply. I never ask at the auto parts stores.
  15. I was reading the thread on oils. It sounds like most of you use mobil 1. Is that auto oil or do they make Mobil 1 for cycles to? & what kind of filters do you use? auto or cycle. I am new at this & just learning about the doos & dont's on hear. I road a HONDA 900 custom for 22 years with no problums. Just gas oil & tires. used nothing but honda oil in it with no problums. auto oil & filters would be a lot cheeper!!!!! I just got a new 08 venture. "not home yet" I hope it will be a good up grade? The Honda is for sale.
  16. I never thought I would see the day when GM common stock traded for $3.02 a share. Some forecasters have it now as worthless and dropping to zero without a bail out. Our prayers for all you guys working in and for the auto industry. With two or three thousand dollars added to the price of every vehicle just to pay for the benefits of those already retired and current high cost of labor it must be tough to be competitive. I buy Chevy trucks as my first choice of vehicle. My life style demands it and crossing this creek yearly rules out anything smaller. Getting in and out in the winter is a 4x4 necessity. I have been driving Ford F150's for over 25 years on the job and they are good to.If the price of gas gets to high I park my truck and ride the scoot. Many retired neighbors around WV worked in the auto industry in Ohio and moved back home to retire. Seeing GM stock drop to a 60 year low has us all wondering about the industries future. This is not a political thread but a Government bailout looks inevitable. Not sure it would do any good but who knows. The question is what will we all be driving in the future? Maybe UPS will deliver my vehicle kit in the mail. I can put it together, shove an ear of corn in it and fire it up.
  17. I managed to blow the main 40 amp flat fuse. And then blew the 2 spares that I had figuring out why it blew in the first place. I have searched high and low and cannot find any replacements. I went to 3 different bike dealers and 2 auto parts store and radio shack. Nothing. Where the heck do you find these things? Thanks, Al
  18. OK where is info for CLASS system hid in book. Got E 2 Reading this evening for 1st time. What next? Hit button pump will run for a while and stops with E 2 showing on moniter. This is my first one with Auto air-ride.
  19. Just changed my oil in my 87 Venture and got it down the road and started to have clutch slippage. I have reserched the site and have seen that you are not to use auto grade oil ( I used Castrol 10w-40 auto). Can I simply drain this oil out and replce it with Rotella Diesel oil or are the friction plates ruined and need replacing? Please let me know. Thanks!!!
  20. Dash display-dead rear unit-dead Not that I'm totaly inept or anything,(once tried to replace a faucit washer and wound up replumbing the entire house). So, where to start?? I've located a CLASS fuse on the print-where is it located on the bike? (86VR) and is it a standerd auto part? Any thing I should be aware of? PLEASE,please --don't say pins-circuit board. Orphand Wolf
  21. have a squeking nise in 91 venture. I'm thinking its a u joint as it sounds the same as on a car.It speeds up and slows down with speed of bike. In another post someone indicated there is a auto u-joint that matches the $100 yamaha one for much less. And one able to help with the part or diagnosis? Thanks in advance
  22. Just an FYI for my fellow CDN compadres. Princess Auto, if you have one in your area, has a motorcyle dolly for $88.00 . It is the one that was the extension for the kickstand built in. Simply ride on, drop the kickstand, hop off and wheel your baby anywhere you want in the garage. It's on pg.46 of there flyer with the sale date starting Dec.11 Ad states that it has a 1250 lb capacity. I first saw this set up a few years back at a bike show and if I recall correctly they were priced in the $300 range. Can't vouch for the quality though, if you know Princess auto then you understand what I am saying. Might make a good stocking stuffer:rotf: Cheers Wayne
  23. I picked up a bunch and I mean a BUNCH of NOS auto parts, mostly Chevy from an auctioneer who had them sitting in his warehouse for over 2 years. My problem is some of the starters, alternators and other parts aren't listed in ACDelco's web site anymore. My question is does anybody have a reference book listing the parts to number? Or could check some parts I have with a different means? Hate to let a starter worth 150.00 go for scrap prices because I don't know what it's worth. Any help will be appreciated and I will see if Santa couldn't find something in his bag for ya. Thanks, God Bless. Mike
  24. i have free AVG and i like it but , it scans at the wrong the time , anybody know how to turn off the auto scan ?? when it dos a scan it takes about 30 to 45 mins. and almost shuts down this old laptop , i would like to scan manuly only not auto . thanks thom
  25. Enough's been said about repairing the computer module on this board, but i think there's one thing that's not being mentioned when the dash is out and exposed to the elements.... :-) Replace all the illumination bulbs with new ones, and save yourself the trouble of replacing a burnt out bulb later on down the road.. Why put a repaired dash that's 20+ years old back in without replacing all the bulbs which are pro'bly 20 years old as well? They're the same #158 bulbs used in auto dashes, and can be found at any local auto parts store. They run about $1.50 each and there's about 7 of them. Do it and save yourself some work.....
