  1. Anyone know where I can get the rubber grommets for the luggage rack on the travel trunk I have looked at alot of bike part stores and can't find them. Tom
  2. My 1989 Venture Royale seems to be using alot more gas than it should. It seems that I am only getting about 18-20 in town, and 23-25 on the interstate. I dont ride hard, or fast. I have also noticed that even after sitting over night, with cool air temps down in the low 50's to upper 40's I do not have to choke the bike to start it in the mornings. I do not mind not having to choke the bike, but I do want to improve the fuel milage. Any help with this issue would be great. Oh and there is a rattle in the exhaust chamber under the bike. I dont know if that would have any effect on the fuel consumption, but I figured I would include it. Thanks alot!
  3. Well, the better half and I are finally going to make it official next month and get married. We've been seeing each other for over 2 an a half years. Alot of first for both of us, she has kids and I have none. Alot of getting used to but it's the greatest now. She didn't like motorcycles, and now I can't leave without her. I'm so excited and can't wait until November 21. We'll be doing it in Luray, VA. Very private and quiet. Just her and I. How great it is when you've found that one.
  4. just wondering if some of the internal components can wear enough for my 2000 model to seem like its getting alot louder........maybe its just me and old age...lol......any advice would be appreciated....thanks
  5. I can not believe you must rewire the whole system to replace your antennas someone should make an adapter to use the existing mount they could sell alot of them anyone interested?
  6. First off let me publicly thank KiteSquid who lives close by and was good enough to entertain alot of questions over the phone today. I'll also preface this by saying I am mechanically challenged to say the least. I am confused about the method of breaking in my 09 RSV. Thus far, I have been following the Yamaha manual's instruction of not using more than 1/3 of the throttle. However this keeps me humming along at a constant speed of 55 or so. It seems from other reading this is not good for the engine. Alot of people indicate to just drive it like you normally would, some say vary the speed and all agree change the oil at the recommended 600 miles. Any help, thoughts, tips, advise would be greatly welcomed!
  7. just noticed don has registered. it is an official meet now , and we will all have to be good. just a reminder, when you all register if you don't see your name on the list don't worry it won't appear till cindy updates it. lots of activity starting up now. i'm getting alot of pm's and lots of people donating prizes for the drawing. get your riding gear ready. it's going to be a good one. see you all there.:clap2: snarley bill
  8. Getting my new to me used 07 RSV tomorrow and I really would like to do my own maintainance on it. I see on this site talk of maintainance days at various locations and was wondering if anybody does any around here (Appleton WI). I could probably figure alot out myself but by the sound of some of the threads the manuals don't nessasarily tell you everything. Any help is greatly appreciated Jeff

    rain and fairings?

this may not be the ideal place for this question and if so i appoligize. I am waiting till i can pick up my venture, and i was thinking: i've never had a bike with a windshield, much less a fairing.. How's light and medium rain with a fairing? seems like it would block alot of it, but i find too often when i make an assumption it bites me in the butt so opinions? experences? should i still be looking for a full set of good rain gear? thanks in advance, guys.

  11. just received dons email about the $12.00 dollar a year fee for the site. what a bargain. i always assumed everyone donated to the site on a regular basis as i do. apparently not. don has done alot for all of us members. think of all the fun we have had, and new friends we have made, not to mention all the advice and info we can get 24 hours a day. now don needs our help and i guess what i'm saying is for all those that would like to, dig down and give him a hand. i know there are lots of members that donate, but for those that don't this is a good time to dig down and do it. i'm kind of going over dons head with this post but i figure it is time to give back something to help a really good person that has done alot for us. bill
  12. Hello All, I got all of the parts painted, not a pro, but they look pretty good. I put the trunk and the bags on today, worked pretty well. I am kinda dreading putting the fairing halves on, alot of the tabs are gone, and I am going to have to make do with the pieces I have, also the fairing lowers have alot of the tabs gone. Any suggestions or tricks to making the pieces stay on and look good? I will post pics when I get it done. D
  13. I am looking at the street pilot 2720 and the 2820, who has these and how are they? I have found them alot cheaper than the zumas and if they do the same job and alot cheaper? Thanks for any imput.
  14. I do no know if this the correct place for this. There is a Hells Conyon Rally at Baker City,Oregon on June 12-15 2009. For anyone interested in going you can look up the info at www.hellscanyonrally.com. I signed up for the first time. Sounds like alot of fun. I hunt in that area and there is alot of good roads to ride and alot to see. Maybe we'll see some of you people up there.Let us know and maybe we can set up a meet while up there. I have been told it is like a small Sturgius. We are looking forward to it.
  15. Hello everybody, I really want to put the Vmax gearing in my RSV... We do alot of 2up riding and tow a trailer... I feel the deeper gears will help alot. I just purchased a RSV Final drive on Ebay and last night I found some Vmax gears. Has anybody here actually installed Vmax gears in a RSV housing? I know there is a site that will do it... But I'm a do it yourself kind of guy. Any tips or info would be great. Service manual has also been ordered. all my parts should be here in a few days. I was thinking of doing a write up on the install. Thank you Reaney in NH
  16. Pretty good race.... Matt Kenseth wins the Super Bowl of Nascar... Sometimes ya gotta just be in the right place at the right time.... Any Nascar fans that are riding thru Southwest Wisconsin need to check out his museum and gift shop in Cambridge,Wi...just east of Madison,Wi...Alot of cool history..... Having said all that,I'm really a bigger NHRA fan,but it's good to see a local guy done good...

  19. I noticed the other day a wet spot under the bike and it was gas, it doesnt do it all the time and I smell gas alot on it since it was new. I stopped by dealer and talked to them and they said that they do that alot and uptil this year if they change the needle in the carb and something else it has been taking care of it, but he said since they have changed the formula on gas he is seeing more of it this year than before. Anyone have this problem? Thanks Kevin
  20. My friend just called and said his radio just guit on his 08 RSV. I have read what seems like alot of other issue's with the 2nd gen. bikes. Whats up with the 2nd gen. bikes? The 1st gen bikes never had this many problems and if there were any everyone knew about it and it was taken care of by the dealers and Yamaha. No questions. I was thinking of putting an 09 RSV beside my Rich looking Black and Gold 86 VR, but now I'm wondering if I should. Lets hear some input to help me make up my mind. I've seen alot of good natured joking going on between 1st and 2nd gens, but I have to say here, My first gen has alot going for it even if it is over the hill . ( Like Me )
  21. I just installed a set of Elite 3's on my 07 RSV. I only got 8,300 miles on the stock Bridgestones, didn't like them anyway. First impressions of the Elite 3's, in stock sizes, F&R: Low speed handling much improved, great on pavement with rain grooves, seems to hold the road much better in curves, corners alot better, also they don't growl like the Bridgestones. All in all they handle alot better than the OEM Bridgestones. Also I bought them through SW Moto. Blaine seemed easy to work with, the whole transaction went quit well. I'll keep you updated on my impressions as I get more miles on them. Only got to put on about 100 miles today, but so far so good.
  22. Has anyone seen the sport uhaul trailer? Saw one today, looks like it would make a good motorcycle trailer. It had alot of tail lights and a fairly long tounge. tew47
  23. I have been riding the parkway this weekend and I believe there are more bikers than cars.I have met alot of great people.
  24. just got back from my mind clearing sunday morning ride. i know what your thinkin,ya gotta have a mind first. lol. any way this has been a hectic week. got my arkansas meet coming up in september this year, and took on the arkansas national rally for 2009. i don't even live in arkansas. a feelng of fear came over me for a second thinking what the heck did i get into. then i got excited and lots of neat ideas started popping into my head. i thought this ones for you'all and i'm going to give it the best shot i've ever given anything in my life. you might say this is my last hoorah. sure would like to see yamaha make a showing there some how. maybe thier semi truck full of accessories and demo bikes. could happen. the big thing i want to see is lots of members. rose bud who is on the commitee suggested name buttons and she can make them. then we can remember who everyone is. i know we have alot of members that sit on the sidelines and don't post much and don't attend the meets. you don't know what your missing. venture riders is a family of great people that will bust their butts to help each other out. there are no cliches like most groups have and no favorites. it's just the best bunch of people around. so all you folks that just kind of check in once in awhile let your hair down and come to the 2009 national rally. i am going to really work on getting alot of member participation. i want the folks at the hub to remember our group for a long time. in a good way that is. bill :clap2:
  25. Not that Im supporting not wearing helmets but I know a few dont wear and have been looking for a headset that will work with our bikes. Check this out. They have alot of other stuff like Bluetooth and more but check this out. I got this from a friend of mine who is a new Venture rider. http://www.armoredrider.com/mod/category/id_ctg/59
