  1. There have been three folks who have made a donation to the International Rally using PayPal and the payments have not been received. We did determine that one individual thought that he had used the CFAS4U@Charter.NET address. But, in reviewing the transaction information provided, was able to determine that he had inadvertently used Charter.com If you have sent a donation to the International Rally which has not cleared please review the transaction information and make sure that you used the CFAS4U@Charter.net address. Fortunately, there is no such address as CFAS4U@Charter.com and the payment will just sit there as unclaimed until it is returned to your account.
  2. Folks, it has just come to my attention that I gave everyone the wrong address for my PayPal account for donations to the 2011 International Rally. I have corrected the address in the thread. The correct address is CFAS4U@Charter.net. Please accept my apology afor any inconvenience this has caused anyone. Again, the correct address is CFAS4U@Charter.net
  3. The motor mounts for 1st Generations have been delivered to me and I will be shipping them no later than Friday, March 4, 2011. Each of you that have purchased a set have been sent an email to the address shown on your PayPal payment asking for verification of your shipping addresses. Please respond to the email address that sent the request and not to the private email here on the forum. I thank each and everyone of you who made a purchase and contributed to the discussion. If some would like to order at this time I do have "extras". For more information see : http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=55960 Again, Thank you all
  4. I think that the vast majority of you already know this but some may have not given it much thought one way or the other. I do all that I can to make sure that your private information remains private here. That is why if you email another member, the email goes through the venturerider email system so that your actual email address is never displayed here. Your private emails are not given out here by me to any individual or to any company. The only way that somebody should be able to get your email address is to ask you for it. Same with your telephone numbers. Many of us have our numbers listed here for the VR Assistance list and in our profiles. Your profiles are NOT viewable by guests, expired members or (as of today) trial members. I like to give our trial members access to all the features that I can but since pretty much anybody can sign up for a trial membership, I've decided that your member information will only be viewable by other supporting members. Even at that, you have privacy options in your UserCP so that you can hide your information to everybody or make it available only to members on your "friends list", etc. I say all of that to say this. If you are ever contacted by a ex member or guest asking you for another members email address or telephone number, please do NOT give it out. The best thing to do would be to forward the request to the member whose information is being requested and let THEM decide whether or not they wish to provide it. I do all that I can to protect our privacy here, please help me in doing so. Thanks much. Don
  5. According to Ask.com this is correct info. What is the difference between http and https ? Don't know how many of you are aware of this difference, but it is worth sending to anyone who does not know ! **The main difference between http:// and https:// is it's all about keeping you secure** HTTP stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol The S (big surprise) stands for "Secure".. If you visit a website or web page, and look at the address in the web browser, it will likely begin with the following: http:///. This means that the website is talking to your browser using the regular 'unsecured language. In other words, it is possible for someone to "eavesdrop" on your computer's conversation with the website. If you fill out a form on the website, someone might see the information you send to that site. This is why you never ever enter your credit card number in an http website! But if the web address begins with https://, that basically means your computer is talking to the website in a secure code that no one can eavesdrop on. You understand why this is so important, right ? If a website ever asks you to enter your credit card information, you should automatically look to see if the web address begins with https://. If it doesn't, You should NEVER enter sensitive information....such as a credit card number, SS # etc. PASS IT ON (You may save someone a lot of grief). !!! **Remember....be kind to your email friends! If you forward this, please remove all email addresses from the message part of your email, before you send it on. Use the BCC section so your friends' addresses remain private.**
  6. WRONG E-MAIL ADDRESS This one is priceless. A lesson to be learned from Typing the wrong email address!! A Minneapolis couple decided to go to Florida to thaw out during a particularly icy winter. They planned to stay at the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years earlier. Because of hectic schedules, it was difficult to coordinate their travel schedules. So, the husband left Minnesota and flew to Florida on Thursday, with his wife flying down the following day. The husband checked into the hotel. There was a computer in his room, so he decided to send an email to his wife. However, he accidentally left out one letter in her email address, and without realizing his error, sent the e-mail. Meanwhile, somewhere in Houston , a widow had just returned home from her husband's funeral. He was a minister who was called home to glory following a heart attack. The widow decided to check her e-mail expecting messages from relatives and friends. After reading the first message, she screamed and fainted. The widow's son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and saw the computer screen which read: To: My Loving Wife Subject: I've Arrived Date: July 19, 2010 I know you're surprised to hear from me. They have computers here now and you are allowed to send emails to your loved ones. I've just arrived and have been checked in. I've seen that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you then! Hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was. P. S. Sure is freaking hot down here!!!!
  7. So last night I submitted an application for a part time driver job to give me something to do during the winter. I received an answer and everything screams SCAM!!!! I looked up the address and it exists, I looked up the name and address and one of the returns directs me to a 419 scam web site. E-mail, request for information including scanned DL, most of the phone number, the language in the reply, everything throws up red flags. This is just effing great! just what I don't need. It's even worse I got the "lead" through a online job search engine (hotjobs.com). The answer to my application was sent at about 0400 local. Anyway, here's the response I received: Thanks for getting back to me: I’m 39 years old with 2 Kids (James and Lily). 9. After some prodding by fellow members I'm offering my Stebel air horn bracket for those who wish to have one. It's made from 1/8" stainless steel and nicely polished. Pics below of it on the air horn and in the mounted position. It replaces the stock horn on the right side of the bike, and tucks in very good as well. The horn doesn't stick out beyond the exhaust pipes because of that. Price of the bracket is $15 which will include shipping priority mail. Payments can be made by PayPal at lskeels@wowway or use the same address to get my home address if sending a money order. Larry

  12. I'm sure you all will hear about it soon enough! Last weekend I went on a ride with Big Tom up to Lake Ontario and when we got there for lunch I turned off the GPS and put it in the trunk. Well, when Earl called me this week for our address that wasn't coming up on his GPS, I ran out to the garage and got the GPS out of the trunk, turned it on, and gave him the coordinates over the phone. Unfortunately, it didn't find itself on the satellites yet when I gave him the coordinates! He called from an area which should have been about an hour away, and two hours later we were wondering what was taking soooo long! He called a second time asking me if we lived anywhere near the lake. He mentioned some street names that were totally unfamiliar to me, so, I gave him the address for an Auto Zone up the street from us and he told me he was an hour and a half away, on Rt 98 at the lake! Rt 98 comes into Arcade so I told him to head south on the route and I wil come north to him. We met up with them about 45 minutes later, took 2 other couples along for the ride. I finaly figured out what happened on the way home after we stoped for diner, which is another story...

  15. Every time I list a few things on CL I get spam replies within a few hours inquiring about whether it's still available or what's the condition. If you answer the email...which comes from CL and you're email address is protected... they have your email address and will broadcast it. So I just had an idea. I also have a hotmail address that I hardly ever use, and I copied their email to it and respond. If I get a couple of live responses I just start forwarding them to the other spamer. If enough of us do this we could drive them nutz.... Hey it's tough finding something to do when you're semi-retired and the economy is in the tank..... :rotf:
  16. Is there anyone willing to order this attachment for me a have it shipped to a US address (border services). If you order it on-line and just change the shipping details you wouldnt even have to touch the thing. We can work out how I am gonna get you the cash. I cant order the thing because my credit card is Canadian of course and they want a US address to put the billing info on. I already have the base for the thing and just need the adaptor that fits on top. Thanks
  17. The weekend before last I won a 1992 Yamaha Venture Royale from Ebay. It is an ex-police bike with around 85k on the speedo. Wasn't supposed to run , but it did start up (just not very well) with a fresh battery. Had really old smelly gas in it. The last motorcycle I had was a CB360 20+ years ago, and didn't do a lot of riding on it, it was a project as a kid also. This could probably be considered my 1st real motorcycle The carb diaphragms were dry rotted with more like nail-holes than pin-holes in them. I ordered a set, but in the mean time fixed what I have with some rubber spray. They're pretty stiff but allow me to run it. I took off the carbs and cleaned them real well. Also fixed cold-solder joints in the TCI and moved it on to the airbox. I'm sure I will need to sync the carbs. I don't have a manometer yet though. I changed the oil & coolant already. Maintenance Items I know I should probably address: I know I need to change the clutch & brake fluid out, and read somewhere about the drive-shaft grease. But I don't know what to use for this? I am seeing references to the "pumpkin" is that the rear drive unit that the back wheel is mounted on? What oil do I need for this? It seems a bit bouncy in the front and I think the forks have a bit of a leak so I'll order some seals for this. I have no clue what I am doing but I did see the info in the tech library on the forks. I am not overly paranoid, but I will admit my ignorance on this stuff.. I can turn a wrench on an auto, but a lot of the motorcycle nuances I have no idea on so I ask am I missing areas that I need to address to make sure this is a safe cycle?

  21. I have received the sample of the tool that will allow the tightening of the fork bearing nut with a 3/8" torque wrench. It came out extremely nice. The part measures to within .002" of drawing. There are no signs of overheating or bluing from the laser cutting. Specification for steering head nut torque initial value is 36 ft/lbs. I tried tool at 65 ft/lbs. and it worked fine with no sign of deformation. http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/PICT5202.jpg The procedure for setting steering head torque is outlined in the service manuals beginning with the 1986 manual. This is under Periodic Inspection & Adjustment - Chassis - Steering Head Adjustment. Also, if you are the proud owner of the MKI (83-85) Ventures, you could use the procedure outlined in the 86-93 manual. If you need a copy of this procedure I can provide it for you. The tool will work on any year Venture. The same part number is shown in the part fiche from 1983 through the RSV's for the steering head bearing nut. The tool will also work on 1st gen VMaxs & FJR's The tool is laser cut from 1/4" thick, 304 stainless steel, mill finish. I can supply this tool at a cost of $23.00 including first class shipping to lower 48 US & Canada They will have the tools ready for me by Friday, February 12, 2010. I will start shipping as soon as I get them. I can order more at any time. If you would like to order one or more my paypal address is gary@dinges.com. I will see the paypal transaction in my email. I can also accept check or money orders. PM me for address. Please mark payment as a personal transaction. Paypal does not send your address to me when it is marked a gift. Please include shipping address & your screen name in Paypal transaction, comments field. Attached are pictures showing the finished tool. Gary

  23. Pair of MK1 Caliper covers in fair to good shape?? PM me with address, they are free...
  24. You probably have a log full of entries about this since I did some experimenting, but I thought I should mention it anyway. On two occasions I've attempted to write a post and gotten the following error, with a difference in the url being quoted. The error occurred when I hit Preview Post. Both were to Wikipedia. If I remove the url string and tags it is happy. If I add a / to the end of the address it is happy but Wikipedia isn't. I can use a string without a / at the end, but not for a Wikipedia page. Wikipedia main works without a slash, as does adding the /wiki. When I add the actual page name it kicks out the error message. Also, the address portion to upload.wikimedia.org was not in my original quoted address. ----------error follows----------- Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '[' in /home/dknelson/public_html/forum/includes/ame_bbcode.php(323) : regexp code on line 1 Fatal error: preg_replace() [function.preg-replace]: Failed evaluating code: ame_match("Post hoc ergo propter hoc", "Post hoc ergo propter hoc", 1, "~/wiki/File:[\w\s.,&;\(\)\^%$#@!-]+\\"[\s]class=\\"image\\"[\s]*[\w\s.,&;\(\)\^%$#@!\\"=-]*>
