Looking for some help. I have an 05 RSTD with the quick disconnect windshield. I want to purchase the wide open plactics audio fairing and they say it uses the factory windshield mounts. After looking at the pictures on the web page they show an 05 RSTD with the fairing but the windshiled brackets are not the quick disconnect style. Does anyone know if the windshiled brackets for a 2001 RSTD will fit on the 2005 model? Any help would be great. The web page for the fairing is www.wideopencustom.com -

I know someone makes these. Anybody know who? Is it better (that is cheaper) to make my own? I'll try is as long as they are solid. -
I am wondering if anyone out there knows of an aftermarket set of pipes that will fit my RSTD? I cannot find anything that fits older that a 99. Will the HD road king pipes fit? I am getting the idea that they won't. Just a thought, but my brother has the stock pipes from his heritage softail hanging in the garage collecting dust.

Hello boys and girls! I'm in Dallas, and it's time for my 17k mile service. I got an outrageous quote from the dealer that I can't afford, so I thought I'd ask for some help here. Wondered if anyone was local-ish, and wanted to come show me / help me with my service. I do not know much about working on my RSTD, but I need to start learning. I can provide food, drinks, cigars (if you're so inclined) tools.. etc etc, but I just need someone to show me the ropes. I'm in South Arlington. OK i have the oppurtunity to purchase either a Corbin seat with a drivers back rest or a Mustang Seat with a Drivers Backrest. So my question is this, for me I have ridden a mustang seat on my Virago for ten years, yet I am now moving to a 05 RSTD. So my main concern is passenger comfort. Which seat gives the passenger the best support and comfort? My wife and i a not small people so I really need some insite on this so I make the right decision. Is the clutch spring on my rstd the same as a 1st gen? If so it has 44000 miles on it and will slip a bit if I roll on the throttle in 4th or 5th gear. can I just go with a stronger spring like I did with my 89vr?

I posted this in general tech but maybe nobody saw it. I need to know if the passenger seat bracket (the one that holds the front of the seat) is the same on a '96 and an '07 RSTD. Thanks y'all.......

Hello everybody, been a while for me here. I was riding my 97 RSTD when I went to down shift coming off the freeway and there was nothing!! I pulled the clutch and coasted to a gas station right off the freeway, where I saw that the linkage had come loose from the tranny! I was able to push it in and got it into 2nd gear to get home with, but I'm not sure what the fix is here. Anyone know? Thanks! -
How much adjustment is there in regards to passenger floor board location options. Just wondering are there any complaints of the passenger calves riding on the front edge of the bags making it uncomfortable. I am having a 05 RSTD delivered from CA soon and trying to surprise the wife. So are there any complaints if so what has been done to correct it? Thanks, soon to be pround owner of a 05 RSTD. Has anyone put the trunk off a Venture on a RSTD? I am thinking the full fairing off a Venture would be a little more difficult? I know, if I want a Venture buy one. I like the Red/Raven RSTD and don't think they make a Venture in that color combination. Thanks, Rick

As some of you might remember I tried to give this driver backrest away for free on a guessing game to some member who was in need of one. However we had a couple of winners but they were playing the game to get it for a friend. ( I MAY OF MISLEAD OR MADE A MISTAKE IN HOW THE GAME WAS SUPPOSE TO WORK AND IF I DID I AM SORRY) I still had the RSTD driver backrest and didn't know what to do with it,so I now see that a person here on the board that has been here through thick and thin and is now at a hard time in her life. So I decided to get a hold of Don (freebird) and auction it off to the highest bidder. I myself don't have a lot of cash like a lot of people in today's world but wanted to help so this is what I decide to do. So all you RSTD owners that was involved in the game last time I apologize. So now I am asking if anyone needs a driver backrest for a RSTD please help out and bid. This is a good cause, and again I appologize. Star4772

Okay more questions. #1 I have been reading about the improved handling with the Leveling Link, but I only see it advertised or mentioned on the Venture and not the RSTD. I noticed on my RSTD it has a link on the rear shock. Is the Leveling Link available for the RSTD or is it only for the Venture ( I am a little unclear on this)? And to be honest , so far I have been happy with the handling of the bike but if I can make it better I would like to do so. #2 Slipping the forks? Looking at the forks on the RSTD I I raised the forks doesn't the Schrader Valves on top of the forks hit the bottom of the handle bar? I don't see how this works without the bar interfering. Our youngest son, Jason, showed up for Thanksgiving on his new ride... He just got home from Afghanistan and couldn't wait another day to get a new ride. I tried to get him to buy a new RSTD, but as you can see, it didn't work. He still wants a sporty model with SPEED. If only I was younger...

I am putting pillow top seats on my RSTD and would like to know for the passanger seat,I put the front bracket on and mounted the seat. Now what type of bracket holds the back part of the seat to secure it to the fender? star4772 :confused24:

Just bought my 2007 RSTD this past weekend with 2200 miles and factory warranty till March 2013. I trailered her home and then had to take it straight in to the local dealer for a recall. Something about the heads needing to have the torque checked? Is anyone aware of any other recall issues with the 2007 RSTD?

Leaving Wed after work to ride down to the Orlando / Kissimmee area to visit my Dad for a long weekend. Be my first real touring length trip on the RSTD. I gotta say, I am excited about getting her out on the open road where she belongs.

my wife & i were coming home from a beautiful ride on the Blue Ridge last Saturday. after we stopped for a late lunch, my wife wanted to go into one of her favorite department stores.....as i waited outside a man and his wife stopped to talk to me about my RSTD.....said he used to own a '97 TD and what a great bike it was..... he said i could get a set of 'front' turn signals from an '04 and earlier RSTD and mount them on the rear in place of the original turn signals...which would provide a running light as well as a turn signal .....he said the older fronts lights had an 1157 bulb and that i would need to tap into the red wire to make the running light portion work...has anyone done this mod??

Hi All, Been poking around the site and am thinking about jumping in. I wasn't looking for a new bike but while getting my '04 Concours inspected at the local Yamaha dealer saw a leftover ('08) RSTD. Man what a great looking bike! Here's the dilema - I wasn't looking to add another bike to the garage until my Connie hit a 100k miles (next Spring) BUT... they don't make these anymore and I would hate to pass up the opportunity to buy a new one. I've checked with over 10 dealers and there are a total of 3 (new) local bikes available, 2 '08 and 1 '09. So... If you've got a couple of minutes, a few questions I have are, Any regrets from those of you that have had one awhile? I do ALL my own work on the Connie, oil changes - tires - valve adjustments - etc.. and she's pretty heavily farkled, is the RSTD owner friendly as far as maintenance goes? Connie's valves are spec for adj at 6k miles but I go 10 - 12k and find only 1 or 2 slightly out - what's the interval if any on the RSTD - the stealer said 12k then asked the mechanic and was told 22k??? I guess the last question (for now) is $$$ The dealer is asking $13k for a 2 year old leftover - a bit high (I think) as the invoice was about $12,3xx when it was new on the floor back then. I figure I'd offer a lowball # and hope for the best. What do y'all think would be a fair price based on your purchases? Hope to hear from ya's and maybe meet some of you on the road. I joined the sight to gather information before I purchase a RSTD. I was hoping that I could get some questions answered so any help will be appreciated. I've owned a Honda ST1300 and am now driving a V-STrom. The V-strom is fine for short trips, but I'm 57 and would like something a little more comfortable, less susceptable to crosswinds, and better for 2 up riding. I've never owned a cruiser so I was wondering. How much engine heat do you get on hot days? How does the RSTD do in the twisties in the mountains? Can you get through the corners without constantly dragging? How does the performance of the engine differ from a typical 2 cyliner cruiser like a RoadStar? Is the RSTD a little anemic starting out without reving the motor? Like I said, any help will be appreciated. PrairieParson Lubbock, Tx.

I think I'd want to buy one of these bikes for fun (Kikker Hardknock). Apparently its around $2000, comes in a kit that you have to build yourself.
