  1. OK I can turn a wrench but I am a electrical Idiot!!!! When I install driving lights on my 85 do I need a relay?? Why and what does it do?? Where does it go?? Was planning on wiring directly to battery thru a fuse to a switch. Horns I have came with relay maybe they will help me to understand.
  2. ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE PASSING LAMPS I want to put the passing lamps on my 2009 RSTD. I figure I need these two part numbers: STR-4NK35-10-01 Lamps STR-1D635-40-00 Mounts I can't figure out whether I re-use the flashers that are already on the bike when putting the passing lamps and mounts on the bike. Do the mounts or passing lamps come with new flashers that replace the stock ones? I assume I will not be re-using the old stock bar. Does a new bar come with these items? The pictures on Yamaha's site don't show what is included at all. Where does the new switch mount? Where does the wiring harness hook up to? The head light? Is there any way to hook them up so they stay on with the high beams on? I cannot understand why they should go off when the high beam is on. Any help / answers / pictures would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
  3. I was just thrown into the 21st century on fathers day when my kids got me an MP3 player. Now I want to add a mini jack to my existing stock audio system so I can listen to the MP3 player or even plug a Garmin GPS to it. This would be on a 1st Gen an 86 VR. I have the stock wiring out of the standard maintenance manual, but has anyone spliced into the wiring to add a mini jack? and where did you connect it ? I want to be able to use the intercom and CB while listening to the MP3. I thought I read that someone gutted their cassette player and wired a MP3 player through it, but couldn't find the post as I searched through the post on MP3 players and audio. Did he wire right into the wiring? That's what I am looking to do. I don't want to upgrade the player, I have a FM modulator but too many cords and hate changing the stations when you leave or go into a different area. I think the best option would be to add a mini jack.
  4. I know a lot has been posted about the Stebel Nautilus Air Horn. I took a few pictures of my installation on my RSTD and wanted to share them. Stebelhorn1.jpg shows how I mounted the relay under the right side cover next to the coolant overflow tank. Stebelhorn2.jpg shows the wiring according to the wiring diagram included with the horn package. Stebelhorn3.jpg shows the brackets I made from aluminum bar stock. Aluminum is easy to drill and bend. Not shown in the picture is the slight bend I made in each bracket to get the horn to sit back closer to the frame. I used a large adjustable wrench to hold the brackets while I hand-bent them. Bend away from you on the end that bolts to the original horn bracket, bend towards you on the other end. The brackets are hidden behind the horn so they don't have to look pretty. Stebelhorn4.jpg shows the finished project.
  5. Hello all, I'm in the process of documenting the install in a PDF document but here are the final pix for the installation. Based on GeorgeS' comments and feedback from the vendor I may revise the final wiring but all of the wiring is soldered and shrink wrapped at all connectors (including the 1/8" audio connectors) and run through the stock wiring locations. Due to the fact that there is very limited space I mounted the amp under the right side of the gas tank. All of the cabling is hidden as much as possible (or at least blended) with the speakers inside the windscreen on the bars. Once mounted the system works and sounds great, I'm very happy with it so far.
  6. Wife got me the Tri-Star XP brake light conversion. Over the years, I have done my share of wiring in radios, speakers, and accessories in vehicles. I have rewired trailers and such, so I am not "scared" to tackle this, but it looks a little involved. 1. Am I going to need addtional wiring? Does not look like there is enough included. 2. Is the load equalizer needed on an RSV?
  7. Hi, maybe someone has an anser for me. I have an 84 venture that will not start!!! I repace the tci and it ran, I had to work on the carbs--- ok did get running, but I went to start it to finish setting the carbs and...... at one time it was like the 4 of july. Here's the stange thing I have 12 volts going in to the tci red wire just like should, but I start cranking and the voltage goes down to 3.68 volts on the red power line-powering the tci!!! I have checked all the ohm reading and they are ok, all the relays are working. I follow the diagram and it shows red line 12 volt all the way to the tci, I know the wiring route on the bike is noware near the drawing on the paper(I found that the stater wiring goes thourgh the turn signal relays and other things). I just can't get 12 volt's at the red power ine. Has anyone else had anything like this show up. Thanks any help would be appericated. tom
  8. Was wondering about people's experiences with routing the wire from the trunk to under the seat? Just had the dealer wire mine. The mechanic ran the wire over the inside top of the trunk came out the back of the top of the trunk behind the passenger backrest (drilled hole), dropped down under the passenger seat and then connected into the wiring under the seat. So, you can actually see the wire running from behind the passenger backrest to under the passenger seat (3-4" worth). It works, and I can secure the wire so it aligns with one of the seams, but IMO, it doesn't look all that great. Also, seems likely to have problems... with the lid going up/down, the wires are going to rub/flex with every opening (although, they are wrapped in electrical tape). I was thinking it may have been better to come out the bottom of the trunk, leaving enough loose wire to allow for the trunk opening/closing. Was wondering what others have done that may be better, or should I just live with it? It does add a lot of light on the back end, which is always good. Also, if anyone is intersted, the Raven color blends very well on my 07 Blue/Black RSV (you can't buy a blue light/spoiler). As always, thanks in advance for your thoughts. Bob
  9. I've recently purchased a previously-loved trailer to pull behind my 06 MV, and I fabricated and installed a receiver hitch on the bike, but I don't have the bike wired yet for the trailer lights. My question relates to the necessity of using a powered converter on my bike. Most of the websites I referenced for hitches and trailers, make mention of the fact that many modern bikes use either computerized switching or control of the light wiring, and they say as well that the wiring is too light a gauge to handle the extra amperage load of additional trailer wiring if simply piggy-backed or spliced in. Can anyone verify the existence of computerized switching for the light wiring on these bikes, and has anyone had any difficulties with the gauge of the wiring being too delicate? I simply can't seem to find any verification of either of these items in reference to these bikes, but if it's true... I want to install it properly. I just have no desire to spend money on kits that aren't necessary. I have the wiring diagrams required to tie in the circuits, so I don't need that info. Thanks for any info
  10. Here's the progress on the wiring as of right now. I've just got 1 more connector to replace then wire in the new and improved wiring harness, plus tie some grounds and brown leads together. Unfortunately I'm running out of chrome wire loom so that part won't get done. Our local Pep Boys is out of stock but there is a website from the manufacturer, www.spectreperformance.com so I will order from them...
  11. Hi, I can not find the answer on any of the threads. I have purchased the Stebel Nautilus compact horn and an Amanet preassembled wiring kit. I installed the wiring kit as described but when I power the bike the horn starts sounding immediately. Somehow the wiring is not correct. The description says that I should connect one wire from the set to the power wire of the old horn. There are two wires connected to the old horn, a red one and a brown one, and when I connect the wire set to either one the result is the same. What am I doing wrong? Is there anyone out there who purchased the Amanet Plug and Play wiring harnes modell SNPNP successfully? Thanks, Robert:crying:

  13. Hi, Thanks for all the interest in the 83 parts I have listed in the classifieds.Floorboards, clutch master cylinder, throttle cable, rotor covers, slave cylinder, seat, windshield and left saddlebag are gone. Still willing to offer good deals on driver's backrest, nice chrome bumper, TCI, Full Wiring harness and many other parts. Radio/CD were shot.. Help me clean out my basement/ garage. I'm tired of parts everywhere Clay
  14. I need some wiring help. I purchased the 1 - 253-4400 Red Ultra Light Bar w/ Turn Signals - US 15" Ultra Light Bar w/ Turn Signals - but I can't seem to get the wiring right - and I have misplaced the packaging. I know the Venture wiring is: Green - right Brown- left Blue- running Yellow - brake Black - gound The light bar has only 4 wires and not sure how to connect? I have the left and right and running working - but cant get the brake light to work? The light bar wiring is (I think?): green - right yellow- left brown running white - ground So where is the brake light? Can anyone assist? Appreciate your help. BBIRINill
  15. I am trying to install a Yamaha CB on an 83 Venture Royale. I have the CB and the wire that goes to the amp, but I need the wiring to plug into the CB to battery. I also need the wiring to install the radio controller. I have the controller. I also need the mic. Can anyone direct me to someone who might have these missing parts for installing the CB? I can't find them on EBay. Thank you. Mixon
  16. So just purchased a new Aluma MCT and was wondering if anyone could could tell me where to get a swivell hitch to fit it. I,ll need to get a spare, which I can do locally but not sure where to get the swivell hitch and wiring harness. Any help would be appreciated.
  17. I have the 4 Way Flashers on my 06 Venture and would like to know the electrical load limit on this set-up. A LEO friend of mine gave me 4 mini-amber strobes and I'd like to tie these into the 4 Way Flasher wiring. The mini-strobes pull .5 amps each for a total of 2 amps. If I can do this I won't have to install a separate switch just for the mini-strobes.
  18. I'm doing a little preventative maintenance on my 07RSV. Found missing screw on trunk lid slider but screw was in trunk. Tightened others. Aslo putting on light bar for brake lights from Signal Dynamics. Found out need to have 1" spacers. My main question is do you loose any memory (not mine, the radio or computer) by disconnecting the wiring connectors under the front cowl to install the dielectric grease? Also should I disconnect the battery first? Thought I'd better get this stuff done before it's too late. Thanks for any replies.
  19. Does anyone here have a wiring diagram for the Harbor Freight air horns? I bought the set about a year ago and never put them on. Went to put them on my p/u and all I could find are the 2 horns and the air compressor. Nada on wires, wiring diagram or relay and switch. If anyone has one it sure would be appreciated.:bang head: Don H.
  20. Can anyone send me a copy of the wiring diagram for the headlight (low/high switch feed) I have lent or lost my service manual. It's heck when you get old! Thanks in advance. Oh, just in case....it is for a second generation Venture
  21. I’d like to make a headphone adapter that will allow me to plug a 1/8 stereo into the factory headset plug on a 2nd Gen for music listening. I’ve got a noise reduction headset that I’d like to install in my helmet and plug directly into the bike. My thoughts are that if I get a male adapter and the 2nd Gen and the wiring diagram for the headset plug that I could make an adapter to a 1/8 female stereo plug. This (I hope) would allow me to plug in the noise reduction headset. Can it be done and do you think it will work??? Secondly, does anyone have the wiring or schematic diagram for the headset plug that shows what each pin is for?? Charlie
  22. :confused07:I have a Piggy Backer trailer. I used the Modulite modual wiring kit in order to use the 4 pin wiring kits. My problem (on the trailer) is this, my brake lights and running lights work like they are supposed to. The turn signals work right also, BUT when I have the turn signal on and hit the brakes, the turn signal stops flashing. The turn signals, front and back, work properly on the bike. What did I do wrong with the wiring?
  23. I've come across an old thread on trailer wiring and have a Question as to where one would install all 4 of them relays. This is the Thread I'm referring to http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1056 The thread is used on a 1st. Gen Venture while I'm thinking of doing this on a 2nd. Gen Venture. Any help would be appriciated..
  24. What are you all using for wiring connections for towing? McHitch has a two piece circuit but it costs around $100. There has to be a better way. Any suggestions???
  25. Got the bike torn down right now. What a PIA tracing those wires. Got the covers off too. I need to pick me up some heat shrink tubing as well as a heat gun and a mini-torch (sorry margaret...LOL) to heat up those stupid phillips head bolts that Yamaha installed with loctite. Ill be replacing those with either an allen head or hex head bolts. Yep, im taking pics as I go along too for future reference. Got 16 pics so far. The stator has a longer wiring harness so the whole wiring can be re-routed to make soldering the connections easier. More later........ :mo money::mo money:
