  1. My Ventures windshield has a coating that is coming off.I used 2000 grit sand paper to clean it up.It took the coating off but the windshield is quite foggy to look through. Is there any way I can salvage it?I hate to have to buy another one.I was thinking of cutting it down and painting it black.Unless I can clear it up.
  2. Yesterday while riding on the Highway I noticed my windshield was getting closer to my helmet, then I saw the plastic chrome piece lifting up and my windshield was lifting up. I eased up on the throtle and put my left hand up to hold the winshield in place when it broke free from my fairing. I was lucky and had a grip of it and pulled over without a miss hap. The one screw holding it solid to the fairing was off and inside my fairing. One screw was lost and the others where still screwed in but the windshield just pulled out since they are open ended slots. I was lucky, and I have never understood why Yamaha only made one connection for the windshield.
  3. Hey Folks, Just wanted to post up and see if anyone has a decent used windshield for a 1st gen. Perhaps one that was taken off when it was upgraded to a clearview or such. It has to be in good shape, I dont want something all scratched up or cut down, I'm pretty picky on looking through a shield f anyone has a good one laying around that they want to get rid of I'd like to chat with you...Thanks.
  4. Has anyone tried cutting the bottom of an RSV windshield and then slotting and drilling new mounting holes? I like this Idea since I think I would have problems getting such a smooth curve cutting the top portion and it would bother me every time I looked at it. Seems possible - potential issues. Limits fine tuning of height after the first cut so I had better get the height I want first time. I'm thinking 3" shorter for me but will check sight line over top with some scotch tape and inch marks. Bottom area of windshield will be slightly wider but seems there is enough clearance in the slot it fits into to accept the wider width. Anything else?
  5. Today I cut down my stock windshield to 12". I was very happy with the height on my test ride, I looked through it but could still sit up higher and look over it for the rain. I then decided to try and buff the scratches out of it and it seems there is a film on it that I ruined. Now the shield is useless. Has anyone had any luck looking through the show chrome shield, is it clear enough. Kinda frustraited now, but I have no choice but to find a new shield.

    Irony

Some days you are the windshield, some days you are the bug!!! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/03/motorcyclist-dies-helmet-protest_n_889427.html?&ncid=edlinkusaolp00000009
  7. Broke fairing open and ended up snapping one of the mount tabs on the chrome windshield trim - but it is the tab on the end with the screw hole in it. Saw the post for fixing the tabs on the inside part of the trim...Will that also work for the end tabs, or do I have to buy a new one? Appreciate any help I can get. MnM
  8. Does anyone know of any product that can be put on the windshield to help it shed rain? I checked Rain-X and on the bottle it says to not use it on plastics. During our upcoming trip, if we run into a lot of wet weather, would be nice if I could see out of the windshiels...and my helmet visor. Thanks.
  9. I want to get a shorter tinted windshield but not sure about size. Is the windshield measured from the base of the screen itself or from the top of the chrome strip it sticks out of? Mine measures 17" from the strip.
  10. My brother bought my '88 VR and before he had a chance to ride it after he got it home his area was hit with the tornadoes on April 27th. He was fortunate in that he had only minor damage to his home. His bike was in his shed but was blown over and the windshield and right side mirror were both broken. I had a spare windshield luckily and have already set him up with that. He still needs a right side mirror. If anyone has a spare please let me know what you would need for it and I'll be happy to pay a reasonable price for it. We have tried ebay but have been outbid. We'll keep trying, but I thought someone here may have a spare lying around... Thanks! Don yamadawg
  11. I have been thinking about cutting a windshield down to 3-4 inches for a summer windshield on my 2000 RSV. Anybody try anything like this? Would like some more wind to keep me cool for summer riding. Bob
  12. Well, I had today off and thought I'd work more on the bike. It was a good day for me. I've got pics of my "firsts"... 1. Installed an extra power port in trunk. Plan to install another below passenger left leg but had to order the plug to get a water proof one. 2. Installed the round vents in my windshield. This was a bit nerve racking for me because I didn't want to ruin the windshield. It was actually pretty easy though and turned out nice. I have them a little more toward the center than some I've seen but some reviews I read said you don't get much air when they are more outside...took it for a spin and get a little bit of air...nothing too spectacular but enough help on 110 degree days. 3. Pulled the trailer. Finally got the trailer tagged and road ready. I've never pulled a trailer before with the RSV, so I took it out on the road for a little bit then came back and put the wife on to see how it rides 2up. All in all it did well. We road it around town for about 25 miles and took it on the highway. Pulled straight and no big issues. 4. Tested out our new Scala Rider Q2 Multiset bluetooth headsets on this ride. They worked pretty well. We sometimes had a hard time connecting via intercom but I think that's more our learning curve than the device. We also connected our phones to them and received phone calls while riding. Wife said she couldn't even tell I was on a motorcycle even though I was going about 55 at the time. All in all a great day. We are just about ready for our 2700 mile trip in June. Next step, load up the trailer and pull it around to ensure I'm comfortable with the extra weight.:cool10:
  13. Has anyone got any idea as to how I can get all the hardcoating off of my windshield? I cut it down a few months back and did so by tapeing it up with masking tape. When I got ready to peel the tape off, the hardcoating came with the tape(mostly) but there is still some stuck on that I've tried to retape and and pull off but it just will not turn loose. Any suggestions???
  14. Hey Guys, I'm going to be installing vent(s) in my stock windshield and am just wondering if anyone has installed two Goldwing vents? Or do you think one is enough? I get very hot in the summer and need the airflow.
  15. but than again who knows. Put on my new windshield last weekend and have not had a chance to try it out. Here's hoping today is the day!
  16. I am retired Navy and need to have a new decal put on my Venture. Previously it was on the windshield, but I had a new one made, which my wife doesn't like because its to low. So I would like to mount the decal some where else on the bike as I will probably be changing out the windshield occassionally. But no on the sheet metal preferably. Does anyone know of something that will work on the Venture? Any military out there who have dealt with this or something similar? Thanks
  17. Looking for some help. I have an 05 RSTD with the quick disconnect windshield. I want to purchase the wide open plactics audio fairing and they say it uses the factory windshield mounts. After looking at the pictures on the web page they show an 05 RSTD with the fairing but the windshiled brackets are not the quick disconnect style. Does anyone know if the windshiled brackets for a 2001 RSTD will fit on the 2005 model? Any help would be great. The web page for the fairing is www.wideopencustom.com
  18. my 01 rsv that i bought a month ago came with a short windshield, not usre how tall it is but probably the shortest one they make, too short for me i get a lot of head buffeting. but I don't want one so tall I can't see over it. do they make one 2 or 3 inches shorter than oem. any suggestions would be appreciated.
  19. Does anyone make one? Have been looking but to no avail. Seems to me it wouldn't be that hard to do: An aluminum channel same shape and thickness as the bottom of our stock windshield about 3 inches wide with receiver lugs in a channel on top side. top piece would sandwich bottom of stock windshield on top side and fit into reciever on bottom side with a quick release. Could also make a interlocking finger pattern between the two with one set screw. Hardest part would be getting the perfect bend. Love my windshield on the cooler days and interstate riding, but when it gets to 90 deg... At slower speeds it sure would be nice to take it off ... and possibly put it in fabricated shell that attaches to your luggage rack to protect it... Help I need more Wind! er... let me rephrase that... Help I need more AIR... LOL
  20. Installed my new F4 windshield today. It's the wide version, 2" inches taller than stock with vent. Really impressed with clarity, thickness, and lack of buffeting after install. It was nice not dealing with looking through the top edge of stock windshield.
  21. finally got to take my bike out with the new F4 windshield.....for anyone that's around 6 ft tall and gets head buffeting with a stock height windshield and wants to stop it, this shield , which is 2 inches longer than stock and much wider, ...works..
  22. Put new graphics on the bike, It really looks good.Hundred bucks well spent. Now I need to find out the member who does the windshield leather work.......Ron
  23. just got off the phone with dave at f4 windshields....and wanted to say how nice they are there and what they're doing for me.....i have a clearview windshield with the vent.......i need the tallest windshield out there and f4's is 1 inch taller than the tallest clearview....i already have a vent so they are shipping me the shield with the vent hole cut out, and a new faceplate, around.....plus 10% off......nice to work with ...the clearview people are good too....
  24. I put a new windshield on my bike this weekend and took the opportunity to split the faring for the first time. Figured since it's an '03 that all the connectors in there, etc would need some attention. The first surprise was the chrome windshield trim still had all the tabs intact, couldn't believe it after the stories I've read on here. Second surprise was that it was spotless inside, all of the connectors were clean and in great shape. I did hit all of them with a little dielectric grease since I was already in there. Needless to say, I was doing the happy dance.
  25. Hey guys I am fairly fresh to the site. i couldnt find a classifieds section so if there is one ( moderator please move this for me) i have a windshield that is too short for me and was wondering if anyone had a larger one to sell or trade for a smaller one. Its in great condition with few light swirl marks. It came with my bike but I feel bad buffeting at 65 and above. Jose
