  1. Ok.. I am sure I might get slayed for this.. But here goes anyhoo... I have a 06 RSTD Midnight. I put the Hoppe Batwing Faring on it and I enjoy it quite a bit! Having music on a bike is something I will never be without again! Now for the slaying.. Has anyone ever put a road glide fairing on the Royal star? I did a little MS paint rendition and think it would look super cool... Seems to fit the thinkness of the bike quite well to me.. I have done some digging on the wasternet.. and have come up empty handed.. Any feedback or direction is appreciated!!!
  2. This is a first for me. The wind blew the bike over today. I guess the cover acted like a sail. There are small dents on the underside of the crash bars, the passing lamp has a very small dent but no scratches, the rght side of the fairing has some scratches and the right engine guard looks like it's bent up about a half inch. The lower is just out of allign now but not a real problem. I guess I got out of it ok. Questions, is the fairing the same color all the way through so that I could just buff the minor scratches out without repainting ('07 RSMV) and how hard would it be to bend the engine guard back the half inch? THIS SUCKS!!!!!
  3. Does anyone have a upper rt side fairing, 2 tone brown, for a 86VR for sale?
  4. I have just purchased an '89 VR with some fairing and fairing mount damage. Was wondering if the fairing stays from an '83 would work? I can get all the fairing stays from an '83 if they will work. Also need to get the complete fairing. Chuckles:fingers-crossed-emo
  5. First off - is it necessary to remove the lower fairings to clean/replace the air filters as stated in the service manual? If so, then is there some trick to getting the allen head bolt off on the inside of the fairing? The two on the outside come right off, but I've been turning on the inner one for a long, long time and it doesn't seem to be loosening a bit. Thanks.
  6. First, let me introduce myself....I just purchased a 2009 RSV and have only had it a week. Enjoying it so far.... I've ordered a number of add-ons so I'll probably be looking here for help. I searched and couldn't find an exact explanation of how to remove the front fairing (without damaging anything!). I would assume I need to remove the bolt under the headlight, and the three hex bolts on each side, but I don't know what to do next? I just don't want to break plastic tabs or crack anything. How do I remove the chrome around the headlight and the chrome piece below the windshield? Any specific instructions would be so helpful. Thank you and look forward to meeting some of you! David
  7. I installed Baron's risers on the new Venture, easy to install, comfortable riding position now.. However, now concerned about the shroud / fairing's rubber mounts not touching the bars, basically leaving the top of the fairing unsupported.. Is there any real concerns about this or did I miss something in the installation process about those rubber mounts? Cheers!!
  8. A few days ago I stopped at a Yamaha dealer and was talking to a young salesman about Ventures, and repairing damages to the fairing etc. He said the paint codes (and maybe even the paint) were available from Yamaha and you should be able to paint and get a match. Is this true? Can you actually match up to the original color or do you basically have to repaint the entire fairing if you have some damage from a drop etc? Has anyone tried this? I am looking at a bike that has some scratches and minor damage and would like to restore it to original condition. Thanks.
  9. Just installed a set of passing lights on the 08 Venture but now I have a slight whistle I didn't have before. Did this happen to anyone else? I'm sure it's the lights cause I didn't add anything else. Could it be possible the fairing is the culpret? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

  11. I have a 2000 mm edition. My front speakers quit working first then my left speakers in my headsets stated buzzing and then quit.I split the fairing and checked all of the connections. No improvements.I priced a new radio for almost $1000.00 Any suggestions,Fixes,Etc.....
  12. Hi, I need some help from you riders who have painted their fairings. I want to paint the lower left fairing part in the shape of an "L" with the lower front vents that goes around to meet the front connector that connects to the same part on the right side of the bike. I had a left side master cylinder leak and some of the brake fluid leaked on this part. Now that I have you totally confused, I guess I should ask my question. Question: What are the best painting steps to get as close the same color and finish as a new factory part? This part has only one color which is Urishi Black. I am planning on ordering one can of Urishi Black and one can of Clearcoat spray paint from ColorRite. I know I should probably use a primer as well. Does this fairing part need to be sanded to remove the clearcoat before applying the primer? Also, what would be a good filler to "fill-in" any nicks. However, if one of you happen to have this part with the Urishi black paint in really good shape and want to sell it, let me know your purchase price. In advance, thank you for all your responses and suggestions. Allen Dallas, Texas
  13. ...during a big ol' T-storm at work. It was parked near the security guard shack; as I was walking out he asks me if I know who's bike that is. Yeah. Poor guy felt really bad for me; he kept apologizing, like he blew it over or something - hehe. A couple years ago I had a 440 lb, 600cc bike blow over, but it didn't lean very far over on the kickstand. I figured there was no way this 800 lb monster would blow over, but it did. In both incidents the bikes were covered - read, they had a sail attached, and they fell away from the kickstand. After the first incident I was paying attention to the prevailing winds, location of wind breaks, and which direction my bike was leaning while parked at work. Over time I kinda forgot to keep doing this. It was completely sideways. It musta hit the crash bars first (which did their job), but it had enough momentum at that point to keep going until the mirror and upper fairing near the mirror stopped it. It could be alot worse. The pavement was rough, so everything that touched down (mirror, fairing, crash bars) got a good roughing-up. Hiway bar just moved on its mounts, front crash bar had to be bent out a little, mirror OK except for scratches. The upper and lower fairing broke some mounting tabs and exacerbated some already-existing cracks near the mirror mount and the rear mounting point. It has Baker Air Wings. The wing is OK, broke off the mount at the nylon screws just like it's supposed to. I think the lower wing mounting arm is what hit the ground and caused the lower fairing mounting tabs to break. However, when I installed them I fabricated and installed extensive reinforcement and the fairing did not break at the wing mounting points. I rode it in again today. Partly makes me glad it wasn't pristine. The other part of me wants to fix and paint it and make it pristine. I'm certainly glad I wasn't on it and nobody got smushed. Oh well, nothing some more JB Weld and TIME won't fix. Just yesterday I was reading about PermaPoxy for fixing fairings. I think that was a bad omen :-) I'll have to go get some. Jeremy
  14. Stopped at a local dealer today and was asking about the new Max. Salesman said only 2500 will be made, and if you want one it has to be ordered with a deposit. Said there will be none sitting on the showroom floor. Aslo, they, this dealer, are putting a fairing and hard bags on the new Road Stars. Said they are the only ones doing that that they know of. Sure gives it a different look. Bags don't look like they will hold much, kinda narrow. Fairing kinda looks like a Harley bat-wing type, except the light is real low in the fairing. BTW, wife and I actually rode about 30 miles yesterday!!!! Don H.
  15. Will the following parts from a 1985 Venture fit a 1989 Venture? Right luggage guard mirror fairing Thanks.
  16. I find that I am in need of two parts for my ride. #1 If any member has the right engine guard that is not scratched up I would appreciate a heads up PM or email and maybe we can strike some sort of deal. #2 A buddy stopped by with his bike, and he has a bit of chrome on the fairing, directly below the mirror, on the fairing edge. I do not think this was a stock item, and looks to be some sort of stick on aftermarket. If someone has two of these (right and left) on a bike that they can be peeled off...or if there is a supplier for these I sure would like to know. Thanks all.
  17. Well that was fun.. Running down our local curvey road late at night and having your head light low beam go out on ya.. oops.. All I could find in any documentation about replacing the bulb on this 2006 Midnight is "replace bulb with..." Thanks, I knew that (derrrr) but do I have to remove the fairing or is this simply down by taking the chrome ring from the front of the fairing to access the light bucket? Right now I'm riding with High Bean with the bucket aimed low but need to get this fixed soon. Thanks in advance..
  18. Time for a new post to follow my previous, "crashed my 87'" and "waiting for the adjuster" now it is time for "search for parts". I am not sure if the adjuster and I will ever end negotiations soon but I have to start looking for a few parts. I will need: Left case guard, Left front flasher light assembly, Front radiator cover, Left side radiator cover,Left lower fairing. The left upper fairing is cracked but I think it may be an easy repair.. I have been watching E-bay with no luck in the past week. Once together again and safety inspection completed I may list it for sale and move on to a second generation. So if someone here may be interested give me a shout via PM or email . Regards Dave
  19. I've noticed that my bars are tad bent probably from the PO. I'm going to swap the inner fairing since mine has some cracks and figure this would be the best time to do the bars as well. If you've got one you don't need, could you let me know?
  20. Ok, so I was polishing the bike the other day when I come across a big crack in the lower fairing. It looks like a rock hit it. I am not a fan of the lower fairing as it keeps way too much of the engine heat on my legs and (in my opinion) looks out of place on the bike. My question is this: has anyone removed the fairing and replaced it with some beefier crash bars? I know that the air boxes and cruise controll are in them, but I really would like to remove them and I don't mind doing some modifications. I also think that those flimsy little crash bars that are there now will not do much good. Any thoughts are welcome.
  21. This may be different for different size/strength/experienced riders, but unfortunately I found out tonight the hard way that my 260 lb son is too big. And for as big as he is, I'm only about 170, and pretty new to riding this big bike. Lesson learned the hard way. Once a week just the two of us go out to dinner together, and tonight on the way back home, we stopped at a stop sign, then as I started out, making a right turn, the Venture decided to go over, and as we all know, when it wants to go - it goes. The worst of it was that we curled around quite a bit and the fairing and right side fog lamps ended up against the stop sign pole. And what really surprised me was how much the right engine crash bar bent, and also how easy it was to bend back. I would have thought it would have had more strength than that. So the final tally is one bent fog lamp eyebrow, cracks in the headlight surround, some scrapes on the fairing above the headlight, a tiny scrape in the windshield trim, and some scuffs on the lower portion of the windshield. Also some minor scratches at the back of the right pipe and a scrape on the bottom of the saddlebag. She's not quite as pretty as she used to be, but it's nothing that will keep me off the road as I look for replacement parts, and somebody to repair the fairing. Oh, and most importantly, not a scratch on either my son or myself.
  22. I would like to conduct an experiment on a fairing, but I don't want to damage mine, so if somebody has a damaged one (both inner and outer) that I can have for the price of shipping, I would like to receive it. Regrettably this would probably come off a wrecked bike.
  23. hi excuse my english i want install sirius radio on my venture 2005 and more people on this forum said i install 6 volt supply why 6 volt ?i d'ont understand sirius is 12 volt? and i want to know if i can plug directly my radio in the plud of lighter on the fairing. And the antenna where you put on the bik,e not inside the fairing thanq you for your answer and excuse my english not good bucheron
  24. Got my bike back yesterday after being gone 3 days to have warranty work done on the exhaust Y's and the inner fairing replaced due to broken tabs. When I first picked it up the radio would not come on. Turned around and brought it right back and watched them pull the outer fairing and just giggle the wires and it came back on. They said it was a loose connection. I started home and realized I had to turn the radio up louder than usual to hear it so I'm thinking maybe the amp is not connected correctly. Called the dealership and they want me to bring it back and can't tell me which connectors are radio related. Anyone here know so I can just pull it apart myself? Plan on checking all the connections but figured it might be nice to know exactly which ones to pay attention to. Thanks.
  25. 330239615319 http://www.ebay.com Looks interesting. Wonder what he did to the intake system. Lots of ingenuity in that build. I like the cut down stock fairing. Or at least the use of the stock speedo. Not sure if it's a cut down OEM one or not.
