1. nope, hadn't heard of them... I got info about M&F from another insurance office. I'm a little off on the ICBC rate I showed above ($988) as I was taking my current six-month monthly rate and multiplying it by 12 but I believe that if I were to pay up front, it would be $864. Not at home right now so can't check my paperwork. So, I paid $392 for the M&F extra coverage but that's including any finance charges over a year .... it would have been $346 for the year if I'd paid it up front... and I get all the same coverages / deductibles as you mention.
2. I don't think you can get the ins from Megson for less than a year ... at least not on the payment plan and I'm pretty sure not even if you pay it in full up front. check it out tho. Coast Capital was $100 + higher so getting close to what you paid thru Beacon.
3. I insure thru ICBC for 6 months. The private coverage is for the whole year and automatically reverts to storage coverage when the govn't ins expires. As for the "2 or 3 months I don't ride" ... you got to be kidding? Me... a "fair weather rider"??? The bike sits for the majority of the 6 month's that it's not insured and when we have the occasional "fair weather weekend" I get a one day permit. Not worth the extra bucks to keep the liability coverage. My liability coverage ends Oct 1st. We may get a few nice weekends in Oct but generally not much after that until maybe Feb when we might get a couple again. Difference between this area and yours is, although a little cooler, you get a lot more clear days whereas we get rain, rain, rain and oftentimes it happens on the weekend which is the only time I am not working. I put the ins on as of Apr 1st this year (normally I wait until the 15th) coz we had some nice days in March so I figured Apr would be ok... HA! We've had lousier weather most of April than we had thru the winter. I got to ride two days all of Apr. I guess there were a couple other times I could have taken a short ride but the weather was borderline and I did have other things I was doing. Now, May started out really crappy but it's turning around now and this coming weekend looks pretty good so we'll be out riding Saturday for sure but Sunday is Mother's day and Nina's mom is here visiting from Biggar so we're gonna take her out for brekkie and a nice drive ... then it's back home for a BBQ dinner of RiksRibs! mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
4. EEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotf:
5. FYI, the Salmon Arm co is a broker just like all the others. My broker is Megson Fitzpatrick but the actual insurance company is Intact Ins Co. Thru them (and it was also applicable if I'd gone thru Coast Capital) I get all those extras too. My rates for a year are... ICBC 3rd party liability = $988 Intact (collision, comprehensive, etc) = $392 Mind you, I only insure my scoot for $16k and the above figures are inclusive of finance charges as I pay monthly.

12. DITTO on this ... it really clashes whith the color of the bike... but maybe you have plans to repaint a different color? Not sure what will go with those RED accented parts tho. That's a LOT of work you did... :thumbsup2:
13. not meaning to hijack this thread but.... can anyone explain why there is a "dummy" bolt on these side covers????
14. How about where I did...
15. geeez ... and I drive an F150 ... guess it won't fit huh?
16. I noticed some "valve train" noise on mine when I got it too... it had 1300 kilometers on it. It has since quieted down a lot and I think it's due to the fact that the engine is now broken in (21,000 km's) and that I'm using Rotella T 15w40 dyno oil. I did try different oils including synthetics (Amsoil, Mobil 1) and found varying results. I'm also running some MotorKote with the oil. My point being, and as I was told by a dealer, they do have some valve train noise, mostly coming from the cam chain & tensioner but it does get quieter as the engine breaks in so, have a little patience and ride it. Mine doesn't bother me at all now but at first it did a lot mostly because I was comparing it to my '87 which was very quiet.
17. If you make the last bolt the one at the bottom of the headlight, you can hold the fairing shell yourself with one hand while removing the bolt with the other. When re-installing, make sure the tabs on the inside edge don't get mis-aligned. Look at the edge where the outer and inner fairing shells come together. There should not be any "crack" and the outer shell should fit nicely overlap ... look closely at this before you remove the fairing, you'll see what I mean. It should be the same when it goes back together. If not, one or more of the alignment tabs are mis-aligned.
18. Facebook sux IMHO
19. Curious to know what you guys paid for a new V* 1300 ?? Dealers here have them listed at $11,999 for the "Tour" model.
20. :rotf: :rotf:
21. heh... you explained it a little clearer than I did but that's EXACTLY what I meant and how we do it. I shoulda mentioned... it would take one heck of a woman, especially one over 60 yrs old, to swing her leg overtop the trunk! LOL
22. When I take her shopping, I blow off ... steam that is ... coz she comes out with enuf groceries to fill a truck !!
23. Gordie... we'll be lookin for a full report on that wing eh ... as well as your trip including pics! Hope you guys have a great and safe time!
24. I get on... the bike that is. I bring the bike up off the sidestand and steady it. She gets on from the left side...puts her left foot on the footboard, grabs onto the backrest, centres her body over the bike and swings her right leg up and over the seat... sits down. Reverse that to dismount.
25. Stratoliner??? isn't that a V-star 1300??
