I-basket tech help
SilvrT replied to jfoster's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Rick, I believe there is a part number for the I-basket. I've seen it posted at least a couple times in other threads but I was unable to find it. -
I-basket tech help
SilvrT replied to jfoster's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
That's exactly what I did... only to find out that they put a G basket in and not an I basket like they were supposed to. I made them correct their "mistake". -
heh... the guy gets around, don't he? ... a real "world traveller" !! LMAO
-
ok... then who's on 2nd if 1st is on 4th...or did he steal 5th?
-
heh... try http://www.buysell.com/classifieds/Results/Motorcycles_Dirt_Bikes/BC/4808/1002/1/false/cname+sbName+r+class+subclass+1_Pg+rw/Motorcycles_over_1500cc.html?CTAction=RefineByCategory&gok=Motorcycles+Dirt+Bikes there are lots of Harleys and Hondas in that price range. I've fished out a few of them and gotten several "similar" responses. I even phoned Buysell to advise them. The told me that they do "try" to eliminate these scammers ... I said "heck, that should be easy....just look at the price"

here's the response I received.... From: neil.sanders@live.com To: prys_services@hotmail.com Subject: 2008 Yamaha Royal Star Venture Date: Sat, 1 May 2010 16:19:43 +0000 Hi, Thanks for your email and i inform you that the bike is still available for sale, it's in excellent overall condition, no accidents, no mechanical problems and well kept. I am outside of Canada, i worked 2 years there but in March this year my working contract ended and i returned back home in Sweden and i took the bike with me because i love it, but here i can not register it, so i decided to sell it back to Canada. Our locations will not be a problem because i will ship it through a transport company which will handle the payment and shipment. They will deliver the bike to your address in 7-10 working days and you will have the chance to inspect it before i receive any money. You will have 10 days to check and test the bike and after this period you must decide if you will keep it or not. You will not pay anything more than the price of the bike, because i will support the transport taxes. If you are still interested, let me know and i will explain the entire procedure, step by step. Regards! Typical scammer response... I won't copy/past my reply...the boss would ban me! LOL

dumb thought here but I would think that if these bikes had a 6th gear, it would only do one thing and that is cause me to shift more often. Now why would I want to do that?

Tail Pipe Expander
SilvrT replied to Dave77459's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I have the RK slash-cut mufflers. Had no issues getting them to fit but I also have a lot of popping, etc going on during deceleration. I've plugged the AIS. I'm wondering if mine is due to drilling out the baffles? -

I't a good idea to change oil so that you're "breaking it in" with new oil. -
Wow... been a while since this thread has been active. Yep, somewhere on this site I guess there's a thread for every topic a person could imagine LOL

I-basket tech help
SilvrT replied to jfoster's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Being skeptical is good... I should have been. You should have asked to see the basket they are putting in to verify that it's an I-basket. That is clearly stamped on the back of the basket. This one is a "G" ... you should see an "I" instead. -
Could you drill a bigger hole and use a bigger extractor? How about drilling right thru the hex screw with as large of a bit as possible, leaving not much more than the threads themselves... then you might be able to "work" the remainder out somehow.... I dunno... just throwing this out there.

Drilling Stock Mufflers
SilvrT replied to Whitlow's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
From all the various muffler mod and swap posts I've read, it's rare to find one where someone has had to rejet. I have the Road Kings on mine with all the baffles drilled out (basically a straight-thru, unobstructed flow) and I don't need rejetting... at least I don't think I do... maybe the scoot does tho LOL You may want to do a re-sync tho. -
I ride solely for pleasure and nowadays I'm pretty much a "fair weather" rider. Been there and done all the other over these past 40 years of bikin ... so if it's cold or it's rainin (or both), I can find other things to do... like relaxin on the couch LOL Having said that, I'll still ride in crappy weather if I have to such as if I'm on a trip and the weather turns bad ... but what else can ya do then .. eh? got a schedule to keep.

I would remove mine during the winter and buff up the aluminum with Solvol Autosol and do a good cleaning on the painted parts.. then just wash them with soap & water with the rest of the bike after that. http://www.motorshop1.co.uk/didiseven.htm

I have $500 deductible and I'm in Burnaby which shouldn't make much difference to Vancouver I'd think. Maybe there has been a huge rate increase recently? Did you get the quote from Megson Fitzpatrick?? What's your driving history/age? I've been riding bikes since 1969, I'm over 60, no accidents, etc. Looking back, I made a booboo...I said I insured it for 16k but it was only 13k dunno....maybe that's the difference?

I had the whine/chirp too. Got my scoot with only 1300 kms on it ... as they started to add up, the whine/chirp got worse ... unbearable... at first I really liked the bike... but I was getting to dislike it in a big way fast because of that whine/chirp. I tried different oils, motorkote, riding at higher rpms, louder pipes, cranking up the stereo... that was like "robbing Peter to pay Paul" so I got the I basket done... MAJOR difference! Yes, there is still a whine but it's hardly noticeable anymore. Also wasn't happy about the handling of the bike. It was a "monster" in the twisties and sucked in a parking lot so I put the 130 tire on the front...again MAJOR difference! Having said that tho, that tire really affects the highway tracking ... at time the bike feels like it's got a flat tire .... really bothersome at certain times (but not always) so I'm going back to the 150 front and putting the levelling links on... maybe after this riding season is done. I can say once again that I really like this bike.. maybe after the levelling links, I will LOVE it. At this point, everything else about the bike is great but comparing it to most of the other bikes I've owned, I do find that this particular model sure needs a lot more attention to things it seems.

... as I'm noticing less and less new threads and/or posts showing up. Looks like we're finally shedding the crappy weather we've been having. Today, tomorrow, and Sunday all sunny and warm ... it is a welcome change from rain, cold, high winds, hail, etc that has been going on for weeks. I just "might" take the scoot out...after I clean it of all the cobwebs!!
-
oh... you weren't here? geeesh... didn't notice.

Kick stand reminder.......again.
SilvrT replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
been there, done that ... when I had my '85 Was stopped at a Yammi dealer, right out front where all the bikes are parked and all the customers are millin about. Went to leave, swung my right leg over and plunked down on the seat...hadn't planted my left foot/leg to lift the bike off the kickstand yet... too late! *SNAP* and over me and the bike go before I knew what happened! Some guy came over and helped me stand it back up but when I got home, it was no easy job steadying the scoot (and myself) while I dismounted and adjusted my body, etc to get her up onto the centre stand. Keep in mind, I'm a "little guy" (155lbs nekkid and soakin wet) albeit a tad wirey. Never had such a thing happen before on any bike...or since but I'm always a bit wary now. Kinda freaks me to see folks who allow their passenger to mount/dismount while all that is holding the scoot is that one bolt on the side stand. I'd hate to see it snap while some guys "better half" is in the process and he ain't fully bracin the scoot. This is one of the reason's I always get on the bike and hold it upright first before my passenger gets on. -
