Didn't mean to imply that it happens all the time ... just sometimes, when I run onto a crack or irregularity that is sufficient to cause it. I also notice the feeling is more pronounced when there is a lot of cross wind or turbulence but like I said, not as noticeable when riding two-up. I've tested the bearings according to "how to check" method(s) found here on the site ... they seem fine to me. I remember from the 2 first gen's I've had that when the rear tire gets almost worn out, this "slip-sliding" feeling would occur but my rear tire isn't that bad....yet. I did not have the feeling when the 150 was on the bike.... it started right away after installing the 130 so I attribute it to the smaller tire, not steering head bearings or air pressures although I'm sure both can have an effect if they are off.- 19 replies

For me it doesn't matter what speed I am going to get this "squirrely" feeling ... what seems to cause it is lateral grouves or irregularity in the road surface. For me it feels like one tire wants to go one way and the other tire doesn't. Somethimes it feels like the rear of the bike is slipping sideways. What is interesting tho is when Nina is riding with me, it doesn't seem to happen as much. Maybe I'm running too much air in the back for a solo ride? As for low speeds, I really like the "nimbleness" ... I feel I am much more in control and when doing the twisties, I find I don't have to "muscle" it anymore.- 19 replies

Not really and I did test for that although the daytime temp here when I rode it was only about 22 celcius. I did feel some "warmth" when sitting at idle after I'd been running for a while so the bike was up to full op temp but it didn't seem to be any more than I can feel on the RSV.

Carbs were sync'd recently and definately running on all 4. Since you mention it tho, I'll check them again...got the tool and I'm sure I can fit 10 or 15 minutes into my busy schedule for it . Now, this "buzzing" is not very pronounced and certainly, for the most part, goes unnoticed but it does exist. It does not exist on the Kaw. What does happen on it is more of a shuddering feeling when accelerating ... V-twin related. I will say tho, that particular feeling seemed much more pronounced on the Voyager than I've noticed on either a HD Ultra, Victory Vision, or even my son's 1200 Sportster.

Been there, done that ... same problem (Nina wasn't comfortable and she got more buffeting than on the RSV) And, I just can't come to liking that styling.

Got to take a test ride on a '09 Voyager. Was out for about an hour ... the only thing I didn't get to test was climbing hills. Following is just my opinion... Pro's Well balanced, ample power, comfortable seating/leg/arm position. Feels and handles more like my '85 Venture without the top heaviness ... in other words, it felt a lot lighter. Handled the twisties nicely and felt stable when going over bumps in a twisty. Smooth ride on the highway @ 160km/h (thanks to a 6th gear). Rumbles along nicely in 5th at lower speeds and accelerates reasonably well. Great stereo sound quality. Nice exhaust sound Seat is very comfortable. Engine/drivetrain is relatively quiet compared to the RSV Nina experienced less wind buffeting than on the RSV No "buzzing" feeling in hands or feet Seating is lower for both rider and passenger. I felt a lot more "in control" with this bike...it was very easy to drive and a lot better in parking lot maneuvers than the RSV. Frame mount fairing .... bike is very stable in turbulence. Tracks very well. Con's It's a V-twin so under hard acceleration, you know it's a V-twin. Lots of reflection of the chrome parts on the tank in the windshield. Seating/leg position for passenger is not as comfortable as the RSV (at least according to Nina but she is taller than most women) I experienced more side wind than on the RSV Not as powerful as the RSV but it still gets ya going quick enuf. Clunky shifting, probably just a "nature of the beast" Definately not as smooth as the RSV but that's what ya get with 2 cylinders versus 4 although I found the Harley Ultra just as smooth. Overall I like the bike and it would be a strong contender if I was to sell the RSV although if Nina had found the seating position better .... hmmmm ... we might have... dang, I do like that scoot...

Thinking I would have to replace the unit, I went to a London Drugs store where they sell them and talked to the sales guy. Great customer service ... he said "I want to sell you one but call Sirius first as they are pretty good at replacing dead units" ... so I called Sirius and sure enuf, they are sending me a whole new kit.

Whine, or Howl?

yes, get the rear splines and damper pins lubed but from what you describe (pull in the clutch and the howl stops) I doubt it has anything to do with that. It could well be the clutch basket gears as they are meshing with the primary coz when the clutch is engaged, there is force on those gears whereas when you disengage the clutch, the force stops and they are just "floating" (so to speak). Try changing your oil to 10w40 first. -
There is also a grounding point inside the fairing on the left side (whilst sitting on the bike) of the audio amplifier. That's where I've been grounding anything in the front such as aux lights, the aux gauges, etc. I also mounted a small positive junction block inside the fairing soas to have an easy central place for positive power. It is connected to my fused junction block which is under the seat, next to the battery.

DITTO THAT !!! Way to many "bleeding hearts" and government beaurocracy in this day and age and because of it, criminals have it way too easy and victims suffer and basically get nothing. I makes me sick to read the stories in the news about poor so-and-so (the criminal).

Went for a short ride last night and all of a sudden realized my Sirius radio wasn't working, yet it was fine on Saturday when we were out. Anyone have one of these....are they prone to crapping out all of a sudden? It's only a year old. I haven't delved into it yet so not sure if it's the radio or the power source or what. I run the power off the aux power supply in the fairing and that is working so it might be the power convertor itself ... drats!! now I'll have to split the fairing (again) to check it.

Get a good quality vinyl / fabric upholstery spray can and spray it. I changed the seat color on my '87 from brown to grey and it stood up very well. It's been about 3 yrs now and as far as I know, it's still good (the bike was sold about a year ago)

For me it would either be a 2009 or 10 Harley Ultra with the 103 engine or a Valkyrie Interstate.

I-basket tech help

mine was about the same; however, you will notice some gear whine most of the time but it should be very minimal. Even after swapping to the I basket, I still get some whine/chirp but the volume of it is no where near what it was and it is actually more noticable at a slightly lower rpm. I would say go ahead and get the I basket swap... at least that way you will know if it works or not rather than constantly wonder about it. Get the dealer to hold onto your old basket for a couple weeks and that will give you a chance to go back to it if the I basket is worse. For me, it worked but to be honest, these bikes (or at least this one and a few others I've heard) are just plain noisy, whiney engines compared to a Harley or a Honda or a few others. My son's 1200 Sportster engine is very quiet ... his pipes however are a different story LOL -
I used a heavy rubber truck mudflap and just cut some strips off it to fit. A little "trick" ... I glued mine to the spring and then tied them tight with some wire...prevents them from slip-sliding sideways, etc. This was on the flat part of the leaves where they fit into the ... I'll call it a "floating hangar"

That is the reasoning I was looking for from Boomer ... but from his post, seems he's just doing it coz his dad told him to... (just razzin ya bud) I wonder tho, how a guy manages to mount the horizontal oil filter without drippin oil all over if'n ya put oil in it first? I guess drippin that oil wouldn't qualify for this thread's subject ... or would it?

Seems like a redundant process (filling the oil filter and then pouring it into the crankcase). Why not just pour 3.5 quarts of oil into the crankcase and be done with it? (I know you have a reason...pls share so all will know)

The oil will do that when over filled. The level should be appx 1/2 on the sight glass when bike is sitting straight up.

I-basket tech help

Swapping out the basket, if you have the right tools (that being a tool to hold the basket in place while you undo the "big nut") should only take about 30 minutes. You need a torque wrench for tightening that nut. For me at least, the unbearable "whine" would be at certain rpm's and heard the most in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th when running in that specific rpm range. Unfortunately, it was the rpm range a guy would most often be in because dropping a gear, you'd be revving too high and upshifting would be lugging.
