  1. I loved mine when I got it ... then I realized it was a "screamer" (clutch basket whine/chirp) ... out of love. Got that swapped to an I basket ... back in love. Found it hard to steer in twisties and parking lots ... out of love. Put a 130 tire on the front...back in love. Now noticing a "squirrelly" issue while travelling on lateral uneven road ... out of love. Got a new rear tire of same style as front on order .... hope I'll be back in love. I'm thinking that since the front tire is a "sport touring" tire versus the rear is just "touring" and getting close to being worn out is what is causing the "squirrelly" feeling. Doubt it's the steering head bearing coz I checked that already and this feeling only started when the new 130 tire went on. Failing that, stock size will go back on the front and leveling links will go on the rear. One things for sure, I just love the LOOKS of the bike. That never falters.
  2. stability was not an issue for me although on first attempt raising the bike, it seemed like it would be ... I wiggled and rocked the bike and even rolled it around a bit... no problem...even with the back tire off. dunno about the HF jack's height but I figgure it's about the same as most of these other, similar jacks ... and you gotta jack the scoot up almost to the top to get the back tire out easilly. Don't be afraid of a little "rocking" ... she's gonna stay there.
  3. Anyone checked out one of these yet? Looks like a nice scoot. I saw one yesterday while we were out on a ride. It was parked at one of our fav stops along the way but I missed the opportunity to chat with the owner. Very nice looking "bagger" IMHO. http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/victory/2010-victory-cross-country-review-88987.html
  4. I wasn't "marking" it... just passing along 23 years of teaching spreadsheets knowledge for ya as a favour. My apologies if I offended.
  5. FYI... although it works, using =SUM() to add up individual, non-adjacent cells is redundant use of the formula.
  6. Have you done any VBA coding in Excel? (just curious)
  7. :rotf: :rotf:
  8. Name that hose... Let's call it "Bertha" ... that sounds like a good name for a "hose"
  9. You guys with the D404's must be doing a lotta burnouts or something to wear them out so soon. I have almost 22,000 km's (13,600 miles) on mine and there's still tread left, not even to the wear bars yet.
  10. Can't argue with that! I'm pretty much the same.
  11. Joe... wife and I test rode the '09 Ultra a couple month's before buying our RSMV (that was Sept/Oct 2008). We were out on it a couple times and if it weren't for our limited budget, we would be riding one today. That is not to say we don't love the RSMV. Take one out for a good long ride ... you might just like it.
  12. A little linear math rule to follow... The "order of operation" BEDMAS (Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction) 44/44=1 4*4/(4+4)=2 (4+4+4)/4=3 (4+4)*4/4=8
  13. I be the third kind ...
  14. No, there is no comparison to the RSV ... what I found the Voyager compares more to is a 1st gen ... see my thread... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=48603 yes, the plastic appears "flimsy" but so does the plastic on the RSV as well as the HD Ultra but once "buttoned down" (the trunk and bag lids), it's fairly sturdy. Not like older bikes where the ABS was thicker for strength coz it wasn't as strong then, the ABS of today can be thinner and still be as strong, thus making it more flexible and appear "flimsy" (IMHO). If you go in with an "attitude", you're not likely to go out with any satisfaction whatsoever. Ya gotta shed some of that bias in order to come up with an somewhat unbiased comparison.
  15. If you buy the 2-speed whitewalls, they come without the spring-loaded valve cores ... in fact, they are nitrogen-charged which supposedly causes the tires to roll with better friction factor of any other tire ... which would definately add to overall rider enjoyment, not to mention those 2-speed whitewalls really add *bling* to the scoot and with the electro-hydramatic booster switch, those riding 2nd gens will finally out run any 1st gen out there. (btw, 2-speed whitewalls are only available for the 2nd gen RSV)
  16. Ditto that and where else can a guy learn so much from other's experiences. Without such a forum and the great folks here.... many of us would be lost and forkin out big bucks to some shop. This issue of the shaft going beside the yoke has never happened to me but thinking about it... sounded like a possibility... and sure enuf... it can happen. A guy learns something every day here!
  17. Do you mean the engine end not going into the yoke? So, the yoke is hanging there and the driveshaft is stuck over to the side of it? I suppose that could be possible?
  18. The "creaking" when you try and roll it may be due to improper reassembly of the washer and the caliper bracket ..??? Other than that, I dunno why it wouldn't go into gear... do you mean the tranny won't go into gear or you can put it in gear but it won't move? Seems odd that doing that work would affect the tranny shifting?
  19. Having had both '85 (1200cc) and '87 (1300cc) , if I was ever to go looking for another Gen1, I would try and find a MKI (83-85) in primo condition and with 2nd gear fixed. That's how my '85 was and that bike was awesome in every way. One thing I am always skeptical about is low mileage 1st gen's simply because the ODO doesn't read past 99,999 therefore, if ya find one that has, let's say 22,000 km (or miles) on it, can one be absolutely certain that it is, in fact that and not 122,000? I know that many of these bikes are very well taken care of and one with 122,000 could look just as good (and maybe even better) than one with 22,000. Further, a bike that old with that low of mileage could actually be more troubles than one with 122,000 (IMHO) Personally, I would be looking for another '85 with anywhere between 60 and 100 thou KILOMETERS coz I'd know it has been somewhat regularly ridden and most likely 2nd gear was fixed as they're known to wear out somewhere before that kind of mileage...(but I'd still want to verify that it had been fixed). (just my $0.05 cents which will soon become $0.07 once the HST comes in) Good luck with your search and impending purchase. These bikes are awesome!
  20. I am SO HAPPY that I installed an air horn. I've had to use it several times already this year. One time was downtown Vancouver last weekend. Guy was making a right turn from my right from the cross street. I had the green and he didn't even stop or look so I blasted the horn at him (he didn't cut me off coz I was on a one-way in the centre lane of a 3 laner) but I just wanted to wake him up... in doing so, I scared the crap outta the pedestrians crossing the street :rotf: Had several occurences of folks attempting to change lanes into me that the air horn got their attention. I blasted one woman (her window was down) and she immediately rolled up her window (after going back into her lane) and when I pulled up beside her to give her a verbal blast, she wouldn't even look my way. I LOVE this air horn ... dunno why I never had one before.
  21. yes, the biggest (and only) problem associated to the RSV is the ... ADDICTION
  22. don't you mean "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably IS" ?
  23. hmmmmmmm... ok, well, I am going to have a "go" at this and see if there's any difference. I know that looseness here is an "issue" with these bikes so I'll check it again although when I did check it a couple month's back, before I started riding for the season, it was doing what it was supposed to (rebounds off the stopper and gently stops)
  24. I put the risers on mine and it helped a lot. Truth is tho, no matter what bike I ride nor it's configuration, I will almost always get a pain in the neck/shoulder at some point in time unless I wear my beanie helmet. I have issues with the bones in my neck and the regular helmets are just a tad too much weight. Some days tho, it never bothers me... this has been going on for over 30 years and there ain't much "cure" for it for me. Point being, maybe a lighter helmet will help ya...
  25. What do you have on the rear (of the bike) and how many miles on it? Could be the type of tire that's causing this "squirrelly" feeling. Better yet, what brand on the front & rear? What tire pressure's you runnin? BTW, I been there (Sylvan Lake)
