  1. I did Racetech springs and gold valve emulators on my Vmax. Was an AMAZING change. Not hard to do springs at all. Time and patience will get it done. Frank
  2. This is my first bike with a windshield.. Why did I wait so long!! We get crazy wind here in NE and gravel and grain bits kind of hurt. I can ride 50 miles without feeling like a bobble head. Hope to make this the year I ride the most miles ever in. The last bike(99 Vmax) had 21k on it when I sold it. Had it for 8 years. Shouldn't be too hard to top that. I thought I would get a low shield when I bought this Venture. Now I'm thinking wider and taller with the vent. Thats still wind in the face right??
  3. My 2008 RSV is lowered front and rear. Haven't shortened the sidestand yet but might one of these days. If you are riding 2up a bunch you might want to find my post about the long bolt in the rear fender, or you might add an extra rain groove to your tire. Other than that mine handles great... no complaints and I would do it to the next one I buy as well. Good Luck Frank
  4. Drove up to Omaha today to go helmet shopping. Didn't find a helmet but did get to look at what the dealer had for Ventures. I was glad we looked. We paid 10,900 for the 2008 with under 1100 miles one it. They had a 2007 with 24k for 13,699!?!?! Two others for around the same price. I think we got a pretty damn good deal! They also had a 2011...damn that was a bright and pretty blue! I like the Venture a lot but damn if I wouldn't have taken the 2011 Vmax home in a heartbeat. Frank
  5. I have a bluetooth dongle that I paid less than 20 for so that I can play music off the phone. I want to get a BuddyRich cable and build a mic break out cable for my phone. Those 3 combined should allow me to answer the phone for less than 80.00
  6. Same thing as book time. Just the term we used.
  7. I'm actually surprised they are that much. I still think if I were you I would have a go at doing them myself. It's like 4 bolts per side once the wheel is off. 2 on the caliper itself and 2 to hold on the caliper mount(most gms). Be sure to wash the rotors wish good old dish soap and water before installing (works better than brake clean for me). A box of nitril/latex gloves are worth their weight in hand cleaner! Most of all have fun and take pictures, so you can gloat later about how much you saved. Frank
  8. SilvrT, I figured as much... just threw it in there. never hurts to have more ideas. Even if it was a CV joint I would recommend learning those for yourself. Most auto parts places have the common 1/2 shafts for around 60.00, I have heard of shops getting upwards of 400.00 a side. Most just aren't that bad to do. Loved doing them when I was paid by the flag hour though. The business has just gotten too greedy. I know costs are up and traffic was down but the rough dollar has helped. Yet still they gouge. Sad really
  9. CV joints tend to make noise at tight turns not during braking more under load....clack..clack..clack. They usually only cause a vibration under power that goes away as you ease up on the gas (the coasting shaft will recenter but under load goes off center and vibrates). Good Luck either way you go! Frank
  10. I would advise you to learn to do your own brakes. It's really easy to do and those rotors prob cost less than 30 each at the parts store. pads and rotors could be less than 100.00 and have a warranty. Torq sticks are the standard and damn reliable. one thing that can also happen is when the wheel is removed rust can fall loose behind the rotor and when retightened can cause a vibration. Newer "top hat" rotor equipped cars have fewer problems with wheel tightening throwing the rotors out of whack. The rotors aren't worth turning cause it costs 12-15 to machine and less than 30.00 for new. The rear brakes get a little more complicated (esp depending on the year, GM had a class action lawsuit for one of their rear brake setups [the parking brake says pump to set on the bad ones]) Then front brakes may need a special socket but still with buying it you can save a TON. I was an undercar specialist for 15 years....would be glad to help in any way short of driving there and doing it for ya Frank PS the average markup on parts when I left the business was our cost X 2.5 = OUCH... make some calls you might be surprised
  11. OK so I have the forks slid up an inch and then installed the barons rear lowering kit. I absolutely LOVE it. It handles fine and I can get my feet flat so i worry less. Only 2 real problems so far...I have dragged the mufflers once or twice leaving the driveway (change of riding habits can fix this one). The other problem is that riding 2 up on one of our fav roads at about 65 there is a dip that caused a strange noise and a rubber smell. Crawled under it and there is a bolt that sticks thru the inner fender about a 1/4 of an inch past the welded nut it screws into. it had scuffed the tire a bit as well. I pulled the rear seat and found the bolt and just put washers under it to shorten the extra amount that poked thru the fender. Hit that same spot today fully loaded with a head of steam and no problem at all! So if you have the barons rear kit you might want to take a look at that bolt. Frank
  12. I am a cell phone junkie... Had 15 at least in the last couple years.Tried the iphone...decent phone but lousy coverage on ATT. I am back on sprint now with an HTC Evo and I love it. I do tend to tinker more than most. Flashing different roms, rooting...etc. The iphone is even better if you jailbreak and get all the goodies apple doesn't want you to have. Frank
  13. I didn't think of the deflectors... the bolts really aren't that bad to undo. Thanks for the extra input all, I think I will leave it as is for now Frank
  14. I double stacked the spacers to check and see if the fairing would clear. With double spacers it wouldn't clear. If anyone has a different result please let me know. Frank
  15. Hey Rick, How long were the sleeves you used? Thanks for any info Frank
  16. Great video! Thanks Frank
  17. I have never towed anything with a motorcycle but will be watching this thread closely because it sounds like a cool idea. I do know in some other countries they use motorcycles hauling a small trailer as recovery vehicles. I don't know the specs of that layout though. Good luck! Frank
  18. Great looking bike! I might be biased cause it looks just like mine. Enjoy! Frank
  19. A plugged catalytic converter will act like that too. Lets hope its the gas/filter good luck Frank
  20. For mine I had the tab it broke off nearly flush(the casting actually gets thinner at the base, horrible design BTW). I took a dremel and stripped all the chrome off of the tab and the spot where is should attach. I held it in place and used the drop method to get the side started. used a blow dryer to make it set up faster and then just in steps, sprinkled on powder and then the solution. Hard to tell from the picture but it turned out sweet. Rode today in normal Nebraska high winds and it didn't budge. This pic was about 1/2 thru the process. I almost filled in the ribs you see. Frank
  21. When I got my RSV the previous owner had superglued the windshield chrome strip because he had broken off the end mounting tab that the screw goes thru. I poked around and ran across the Plastex kit. This is the first time I have ever used a glue type product and not made a mess. No glue on the fingers...no glue on the table...no glue on the stuff I wasn't trying to glue. I have no doubt that the tab is stronger than it was originally. The price for that part is around 140 bucks... the Plastex was 21 after shipping. I have enough left over to do this repair 100 times. Great product that works!! Frank
  22. Correction....can we get 2 of the 3.5inch as well? Thanks again Frank
  23. I would like 2 of the 7" ones please. Thanks! Frank
  24. Some of the Saturns as I recall have oil filled hydraulic cam chain tensioners. So I wouldn't play around with too much in the oil and additive dept. Changes in oil weight can cause big $$$ issues. But a new(reman) head these days won't break the bank and is an instant turn around. So for me its a better bet. Frank
  25. I bought Plastex to repair the chrome mole on my 08. The PO used superglue and made a mess. In my case its the end tab that the screw goes thru that is broken. I also have one of the other tabs broken but that is only if I can repair this piece. I heard that you could source the powder/chems cheaper but was just going after the "know this stuff works together" if I works I saved $120 or more. If not I'm not out much. Will take before and after pics. Wish me luck Frank
