  1. Harley's are nice bikes. But not worth the extra cash. My father in-law has an Ultra Classic and everytime he takes it out, he has to put money into it. Literally. Abou two weeks ago he lost his $800 HD GPS......it fell off going down the highway. Destroyed. I guess he did not have the optional net underneath the bike to catch the parts. I think this year he has put about $2000 into the bike. My only complaint about the Venture is the lack of guages. That's it. I talked to someone at Yamaha last spring and asked them why they don't atleast design up a digital guage package that would match the speedo, that would fit into the opening of the cassette deck. Sell it with all of the sensors and connectors as an accessory. I know I would have bought one in a heartbeat. Too late now that I built my own and carved out the opening. But I think that would have been pretty trick looking. The Yamaha reps answer.....Hmmm, not a bad idea, but probably not going to happen. Someone using the excuse of buying a HD because the Venture is an old design is complete bull. If you want a HD, just say so and buy it. I don't care what somebody rides. The important thing to me is that they are riding.
  2. It's been in the high 80's to mid 90's with high humidy for the last three weeks or so here in Michigan. My temp has not gone over 195 in any condition.
  3. Not only is it dangerous when rain hits it, but I noticed severe glare with oncoming headlights at night. My stock windshiled would completely white-out with oncoming headlights. I bought a new Yamaha wider windshield on ebay. It was about 11 1/2" tall and I ended up cutting it down to 9 1/2". It's perfect for me. I can see over it and do not get alot of wind on the freeway. Plus with the wider and shorter stance, it really sets off the look of the front of the bike.
  4. This is what I ended up doing to the cb. My brother inlaw forwarded me a post on the cb locking up, so I tried it. All I did was open up the fairing and took the 4 large round connectors apart, sprayed some electrical connector cleaner in the plugs, put them back together and pulled them apart a few times. Sprayed more cleaner into the connectors and blew them out with compressed air. Then applied a light coat of di-electric grease to the female side of each plug and put everything back together. So far everything seems to be working good. Just about all the chatter goes away. With the squelch at 20, I have to get right ontop of a trucker before I hear anything. Simple. Probably should be done every spring when I break out the bike from the long cold winter.
  5. HOLY CRAP!!!! Where do you put it all????
  6. Well, I talked to two dealers about this. C&C Sports in Brighton and Nicholson's in Ann Arbor. Both dealers said that there is nothing that they can check or do. Just what I thought that they would say. I pretty much have no use for dealers, auto or motorcycle. I am going to call Yamaha now. I think that I am going to try and insulate the antenna a little to reduce the range. I do not like the idea of shortening the antenna and will not do that. I will try this this weekend and post the results.
  7. I bet the gas mileage sucks. Not my style. I do like the Hannigan trikes, but the quad....not so much.
  8. That would be my second gen!!! And I can guarantee you don't want to sniff my seat!!!
  9. I have not transfered the warranty from the previous owner yet. My bad. I think this would end up being one of "those things" the dealer would not be able to fix after having the bike for a week. I am going to call C&C in Brighton and talk to a mechanic and maybe just swing by on the way home later this week. Kitesquid.......left side(drivers side in a car)
  10. Owen...........it still does not explain why I am the only one out of 6 or 8 people that I have ridden with, that I am the only one getting the chatter. If what your saying actually is correct, everyone else should be getting it too. The guys that came with me on Saturday, three Goldwings and another Venture.....nothing. My wifes J&M....nothing. My father in-laws Harley....nothing. I think it's more likely my radio is either tuned really well or the squelch is not working properly. I am going to have to see if someone can actually check it out.
  11. We were on 29. It's on all the channels. Terrible.
  12. I would like to know if there is a way to de-tune my range on the cb. I have the squelch set all the way up on 20 and I get chatter like crazy. My brother in-law has a Midnight and on the way to and from MD Saturday I was getting a TON on trucker chatter, he did not get any. My wife has a J&M on her Shadow and she does not get the chatter. I swear my radio must be picking stuff up from 20 miles away. It's very annoying. Makes it hard to listen to the radio. I almost had to turn it off on the way down. I do not want to hear all the other stuff, just the poeple I am riding with. Does anyone know how I can reduce the range?...........without breaking off the antenna!!!!
  13. Freebird, this was my first maintainance day. It was awesome. I learned alot. I now know how to sync my carbs and replace and bleed my clutch and brake fluid. Thank you for opening up your home and allowing us to have a day like Saturday. J-Bird......my wife really loves the stripes. She thinks the the feathers and arrowhead accents are pretty sweeet! At the end of riding season, I will be shipping you my helmet for some work. To all the guys that donated their time to work on the bikes......kudo's. 14. We have 6 total bikes leaving Ypsi. (Donaldj2242 is my brother in-law) It was a group decision to leave from there, more convieniant for everyone. If things change, we will let you know. But as Don said, we are leaving from Ypsi so if there are any others in the area that woud like to ride with us, kick stands up at 7:30 am. This will be my first MD and I have been looking forward to this for two months! Randy
  15. Will there be a rain date if Saturday is a washout?
  16. My wife and I where on our way to dinner. We saw a guy with his girl on the back. She was wearing shorts and tank top. The kicker? She was texting with her left hand and holding a small dog in her right . Yup, you read it right. For being the highest species on the food chain...........poeple are just plain dumb.
  17. I have the original set on my '07 and they have about 10,500 miles on them. I figure I should be able to get about another 4000 miles out of them.
  18. I have the Utopia. Drilling a hole is no big deal. For some. Get what you want. If you have to drill a hole, just be careful not to hit the fender hen you go through.
  19. Get a low limit credit card and use this.
  20. My Viagra
  21. These are the flames on my wifes bike. Granted, not for everyone, but I like em.
  22. Personally, I like flames.........when they are done right. These however do not look good. As far as a new bike, I will let someone else take the hard resale hit. I got my 07 rsv for almost half of what the original owner paid for it and it only had 9000 miles on it. Now if I hit the lotto............
  23. My wife rides her own bike, Honda 750 Shadow. She went down last year at 50 mph. I was behind her and I knew she was going to loose it before she went down. This was before we had a cb on her bike, so I could not tell her to slow it down. She went way too fast into a curve, did not lean the bike enough, ran out of raod, hit the shoulder and the bike washed out from under her. I had to swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid running her over. Talk about a helpless feeling knowing this was going to happen within a few seconds and not being able to do anything about it and then seeing it happen. End result.....concussion, broken toe on her left foot and a torn ACL in her left knee. The bike went into the ditch and barrel rolled once and flipped end over end. It landed in a thick briar patch. Took a chunk out of the tank, front fender gone, mirrors crushed, crash bar bent back, crash bar chaps toasted. The crash bar, soft saddle bags and sissy bar absorbed all the impact. Her leather jacket kept her skin on her shoulder and arm and her helmet (trashed) did it's job. She got back on for the first time last week. Everytime she does I get butterflies in my stomach. She now rides behind me so I can control the speed and she has a J&M cb on her bike. She said there was no way she was going to not ride. Bottom line, she's gonna do what she's gonna do. Just do what you can to keep her safe. Make sure she has a good helmet, always wears a leather jacket or synthetic with pads and gloves and boots.
  24. You have to remove the large control box that sit under the top rails. Two brackets hold it up. Take that out and you will have enough room to remove it.
  25. Ok, my wife has a Honda Shadow Spirit 750 ( I know, I know this is a Venture forum) She has small hands and has to stretch to reach the clutch. I already heated up the lever and straightened it out, but now the bike won't start while in gear. I have the clutch all adjusted and it shifts fine, she can operate the clutch 100% better. There is a cam on the bottom of the lever that actuates the micro switch in the lever housing. Being that I straightened out the lever, it now does not rotate back far enough to actuate that micro switch. Now the bike has to be able to start while in gear. If you stall it out at a light, you don't want to be trying to get it into neutral to start it. I tried doing a search for levers with out much luck. Any ideas? Randy
