It is easy to test for a dead cell with a volt meter. Remove the caps. Carefully put a lead in cell # one and a lead in cell # two. Do not touch the plates. You are only testing the acid (liquid). Should read 2 to 2.2 volts. Then move to cells two and three again 2 to 2.2 volts. Then cells three and four etc. If you have a dead cell one of the readings will be very low compared to the others. Just remember do not poke the battery plates you are just testing the liquid. Remember to rinse off your test leads when you are done. Often it is more convenient to replace a battery before it goes dead. Mike

Glad to be of assistance. Yes cassettes are still available and very reasonably priced on e-bay. I guess I am one of the other two who use the player. Try cycling a cassette through the player a couple of times. Might cure the drain, shouldn't hurt to try. Mike

Give the Hawks all the flaming you want. But when it is all said and done they won the Western Division. Beyond that it doesn't matter. If they had a record of 16 and 0 it wouldn't matter. They would still just be Division Champs. In the playoffs it doesn't matter which is the best team. A great team can have one bad day and their out. That is what makes football so great. The outcome is never certain. Mike

Wow and just think he had to do it five times to get all of those camers shots. Mike :clap2::clap2:

With the seat off it is a six wire connector to the left rear of the battery compartment. I believe the taillight is the blue wire. if I get a chance to take a pic I will post it here. I bought my led strips from Harbor Freight for $7 each. I put one under each side of the fuel tank and one inside each saddlebag mount rail. Four in all. It gives me indirect lighting which I think is very pleasing. Also gets me noticed by other vehicles at night. Mike

About any rocker to toggle switch will work. It is best to get one designed for outdoors. I mounted a rocker switch for my lights behind the right side of the seat. So I can reach down behind the seat and flick it on or off while I am riding. I powered mine from the rear light system connector near the battery. So they are normally powered on whenever the ignition is on. The switch on mine is just so I can force them off when I want to. Also since I glued the light strips to the bottom of my tank (two sided tape) I put a connector at the rear of the tank so I can unplug them when I have to remove the tank. Mike

Since the system uses keep alive or back-up power for the audio and dash you will always read voltage. The test for a parasitic drain must be done with an amp meter. Preferably a milliamp meter. A draw of under 50 milliamp is ok. Over 100 milliamp (1/10 amp) is bad. 50-100 is that subjective gray area. Be careful using an amp meter. Make sure you know the proper way to connect it. Mike

Need to cover small dent in tank.
MikeWa replied to pcoffroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sometimes a little dry ice works. I have used it to pop car door dents out. It shrinks the metal and often works pretty good. Occasionally some paint will chip off. Usually a repaint. But not often. I have never tried it on a bike though. Anybody got an old dented tank lying around they want to do a little experimenting on? Mike -
Unplug the various plugs to the audio system one at a time to see if any of them stop the drain. Mike

The back up fuse provides keep alive power for the audio system. Unplug the cable to the cd changer if you have one and see if the drain goes away. The cd changer is always alive and sometimes the cartridge will get askew causing the changer to pull excessive power. if it is not the cd changer the plugs for the others are under the fairing. And there is a power plug at the cb under the trunk. Mike

You might be able to use an (if;than) formula. The than can be a name or a cell location where the name exhists. Or functions "if logical test (value-cel if true) (value-cel if false).

Low compression. Exhaust sound and feel will be different left to right. If it is an 08 have the dealer look at it and think warranty. Mike

I think the RSV uses the same 5 pin headset connector as the Gold Wing. So Gold Wing stuff should work just fine if you can't find what you are looking under the Venture heading. Mike

Why only Road Kings Exhaust?
MikeWa replied to TearlessTom's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Catalytic converters will cause back pressure in the exhaust. Not good unless your bike is designed for it. Mike -
yes

It is a little like boiling water in a pot. When the pot gets hot enough the water begins to boil. But it doesn't all just instantly boil away. That takes time. How long it takes for all of the water to boil off is dependent on several variables. Like the amount of water, the amount of heat applied, the shape of the container etc. Any how just run the bike long enough to get all of the moisture boiled away. Mike

The one screw below the headlight is removed when taking the fairing off. The chrome ring around the headlight is part of the fairing. So don't try to pull it off. It will not give you access to the headlight. The headlight looks like a sealed beam but it is not. Turn the front wheel to one side. The bulb can be accessed in front of the gas tank. There is a snap ring kind of a bulb holder. Remove it and then remove the bulb. Mike

Jason Mod question - help please

Unless something is wrong with your AIS it is unlikely you will see any of those benefits. Mike -
This is a Yamaha forum. Just sayin. Mike :dancefool:

They are rating the batteries in horsepower. What does that mean? Seems like a meaningless number with nothing to compare it to. Ok lets see. At 12 volts that's 83 amps per kw. Then how many kilowatts to one horsepower or is it is it how many horsepower to one kilowatt. Wait. Ok I'm confused. Mike

'Bags are painted two-tone
MikeWa replied to GaryZ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I like it. I also think you are right. The two tone helps the bags. Mike -
Power flow is main switch to headlight fuse to dimmer switch to headlight to ground. There is no reserve in the wiring diagram or service manual. Something is unplugged, a wire is broken, or dimmer switch or headlight is burned out. Since the tail light is working and is also powered from the headlight fuse. My guess is something is unplugged or someone crossed plugged something. Mike

I had the same problem with my bike and Rivco stand at work. Bike slid all over on the smooth floor when I was trying to take it down. Now I just put a piece of duct tape on the floor in front of the stand. A bigger issue I had was the foot on the right side dragging on hard right turns or going over a bump during a right turn. I got worried about it catching during a high speed turn so I ended up grinding the corner off. Now the running board scrapes well ahead of the center stand. And there is no longer a sharp edge to anchor me. Mike
