Here in the south there's just no reason to put the bike up. In Atlanta we MAY see 1-2 days of snow per year and the temps don't generally go below the teens. The biggest issue is the 'black ice'. The fools down here never turn off the auto sprinklers so you need to really pay attention when it's in the 20's. I guess if it went below 0 I'd have to think about it a minute but I'd probably still ride.

I have never felt cold in my chaps. I guess the combination of living south and the protection of the RSV is all I need. (Just to qualify, the coldest I've had to ride was 11F but it was 50 miles on the Interstate so 75mph) I know you guys up north have it more severe than we do down here.

Congrats Squidley. Only someone like you really understands what you have. Every bike carries a piece of it's owner and right now that bike is in the ONLY place it could be. Every time you get on that bike Ron will be there with you. That's something no one who bought it would ever understand. As long as that bike runs, Ron will never stop riding. My '07 RSMV belonged to a good friend of mine, Mike "Deltoid" Bland. After he passed they were going to let it go back to the bank but timing and fortune were on our side and now Mike is still riding with us. There are twin VR Guardian Bells, one is on the bike and one is tied to Mike's urn with a purple ribbon and buried with him. Somehow letting the bike be sold to just anyone was just wrong. When I look at that bike I see Mike and always will. This HD is just like that. I'm really glad you have it. All is as it should be.

It's been unseasonably cold here the past couple weeks. Temps in the 60's. That's ok though. Today is sunny with a high of 79. I'm going riding.

You didn't mention her size. I guess it's relative it she's a 250 lber.

Now that's funny. :rotfl::rotfl:

I know that this type of person is out there, I'm just glad I have never run across one. The guys I ride with here in GA are pretty evenly split when it comes to rides. There are quite a few HDs but there are also quite a few Hondas, Kaws and Yamahas. There are even a few Victories and BMWs. Everyone always compliments each other on their bikes and other than a few good natured jokes we all respect the fact that we ride. It's kind of like this group. We don't all ride RSVs even though the site is 'Ventureriders'. I've never seen anything but positives from people here regardless of the ride. The people here understand that it's not about what you ride, but that you do. You all 'get it'. I actually feel sorry for these people because they don't understand what we all take for granted. They have no idea what it means to be a 'biker'. They ride for status and miss the experience. While I love my RSV, I don't think there's a bike out there I wouldn't enjoy riding simply because I would be 'riding'. It's like going to church and not know God. Pretty empty.

Prayers on the way from Buford for all. Ron, may God welcome you with open arms into His eternal rest and may He comfort your family and friends in this time of loss. I lost a very close friend just under 2 years ago and we used to talk about Heaven and if there were bikes up there. We decided that there had to be or it would be Hell. So know that Ron is up there riding with Mike where the sky is always sunny, the road always twisty and the tank always full. Enjoy the Heavenly Wind Ron.

Totally puzzled !!

Welcome Bootneck. Great to have you and I know you'll love that bike. I had an '89 before my '07 and absolutely loved it. I'm not that good with electrical but every issue I ever had was solved by this group. There are some really smart people on this site and I know you'll get your answer with as little money spend as possible. Good luck. -
I think we're the best kept secret out there...... Just like the RSV. I am always amazed at the number of people who come up to me and think I am on a HD. Even bike people have no idea and seem surprised when I tell them it's a Yamaha. (Even with the big Yamaha name right on the trunk)

I think putting my bike up for the winter would make me want to kill something too. Thank God I live in the South!!!!

I have the Warm Gear gloves and liner with a dual control. Rode an '89 for years in all weather with no issues at all. Never had a charging problem. (I do ride 365 so I had the gear plugged in for most of 4 months daily.)

It's extremely rare that I have any issues with another bike regardless of what type. I will second the 'crotch rocket' issues being so close to the N. GA mountains. There are some real idiots on those things. It's not them personally but their riding I take issue with. As for HD, I guess I must live in a different area. They people here all seem pretty cool. I do find that some don't wave but I chalk that up to their inexperience. I think they're afraid to take their hands off the bars due to all the vibration. That's ok, I still wave. None of my HD buddies have an issue with my RSMV. We rag on each other all the time but someone has to be able to ride for help when they break down.

I'm not making the 100mile/day commute anymore so I was actually down to only 22k this year. That's the least in a very long time.

I don't see this as a good sales year for the Venture. Nothing new and the price is up. Better to buy a used one at half the price. The new colors are boring as well. I have an '07 Midnight and I'm not at all impressed with their attempt at "flames". The black looks better without. No big deal for me anyway. I'm not in the market for a few more years. I just love the sound of "paid for".

In that picture of the '99 the seat looks very similar to the 1st gen other than splitting the seat into 2 parts. The actual seat surface looks like the '89 I had.
-
All pillow tops except Midnights. Only the '07 (final year) Midnights had the pillow tops.

2 second gens for me. Waiting for details.

Sorry to hear about the layoff Hazen. It sucks being out of work. I'm going on 7 months. I have a couple leads but nothing confirmed yet. Luckily we haven't had to sell the house yet but that just a matter of time of nothing breaks. I've been hitting that 'over qualified' wall for months. It will all work out. I'll keep you in my prayers.

I don't think you're going to change the process. They're an inexpensive way to repair the roads in between repaving. They're the worst during the summer when they get really hot. The tar seems to melt a little and they are very unstable. When I see them I just treat it the same as I would a rainy day. The bike seems to react the same way as it would crossing wet road paint. That's another thing that poses a danger that will probably never change.

Here's what I have. 2 years and running. I ride 365 so they get a lot of use and I am very happy with the product. When they eventually need replacing I won't hesitate to buy the same. http://cozywinters.com/heated-clothing/

I've been a member for years. Roadside assistance is good and there are some discounts that you get including Bike Bandit and Garmin. The main reason I joined was to support the legislative portion. They fight for our rights across the country. It's something you don't see but it's pretty important to me.

Thanks for the post and welcome. I live in Buford so we'll have to get together and ride some time. I had a Wing also years ago and I personally like the RSMV better. Both are great bikes though. I'm 5'10", 205 and this bike fits me perfectly. You'll get used to the boards and a little adjustment of the shifter and you can do the 'toe' thing with the Venture as well.
