1. Your D404 is acting like it should...low mileage is an understatement. I used to run them on my BMW RT1200 and would be happy if i got anything over 3500 miles on a set before they cupped / wore down...especially the rear if you're doing a lot of highway driving. On the flipside, they hold the road through the corners very well in my opinion...but so do a lot of other tires!
2. Hummingbird, Thanks for the suggestion on the 54 psi...i just upped my psi tonight and i like the ride. It feels completely stable at higher speeds. I was at an indicated 105ish and had no instability...I also took her into the parking lot and did some real slow speed turns and uturns scraping boards with no issues...i must say the 54 psi feels better than the 33 psi i had it at earlier.
3. I ordered mine from a tire website...but it was 1 of 2 in stock and was in jersey...took 10 days to reach me. Good luck on the transition, I'm happy so far... (700 miles after the lights turned out!)
4. cant wait to get em...a few more days!!! Thanks Buddy!
5. youre running 54 lbs in your kuhmo? thats the highest ive heard of...does it ride stiff?
6. I think i found my happy place already...I was gonna run what footsie is running...32 in the rear and 36 in the front...BUT...I wanted to be original...so im running 33 in the rear and 36 (and a half) in the front! 500 Miles and counting and no issues to report
7. So i went to the darkside yesterday morning...the dealer set me up at 36 psi rear on my kuhmo and 36 psi on the front (avon cobra)...i adjusted it down to 33 psi this morning and have put 500 miles on the tires already with absolutely ZERO negative experience...in fact, she handles better than before!!!! BUT...ive been anticipating this dreaded wobble i hear others talk about... Then tonight, on my way home from a "bike night" it happened... I had my 7 y/o on the back and at about 45 mph just going through town I felt the whole rear of the bike start dancing all over the place...i was freaked out and upset and disappointed and worried...that was until i looked in my mirror and saw my little one rocking out to the katy perry song on the ipod! She was having just the best ole time back there! PPPHHHEEEWWW!!!!! it wasnt the tires that were causing the wobble!!! It was HER!!! BTW...The cookies were better today than they were yesterday!!!
8. you'll get used to it...and besides, if you follow the indicated the speed...you get to "think" your flying when youre really just doing the speed limit! That'll keep the blue and red lights from lighting up behind you! BTW...I also just use my GPS when i really want to know how fast im going. Welcome to the club! Good choice in a bike..you'll enjoy it for years to come!
9. Yesterday was a good day...i officially entered the darkside. Kuhmo on the rear with a Avon Cobra on the front...Footsie and I are twins! So far put about 250 miles on it...very comfortable with the C/T in the turns...I have to dial in the tire pressure to get it perfect though. I started running 38 in the rear, just dropped it to 35 tonight and will run it around tomorrow to test that out. Footsie...what pressures are you running? Also, are you getting that 90mph dance that some talk about in previous posts? BTW...the cookies are really good on this side!
10. Well...i tried just about everything, i cleaned all the lubricant off to get them back to the way there were but that didn't work, i took the entire saddlebag, hinges, hinge bolts, and locking mechanism apart and everything worked fine and was tight before i even started. I even swapped the latches with the other bag but they worked just fine on the other side...For some reason, the latch just wasnt going down far enough to properly lock... So after long deliberation and a lack of any "good" ideas...i decided to use a hammer and straighten the latches a little bit...so instead of a 90 degree, there more like a 75 degree now...but hey...it worked! Like they say, "If your only tool is a hammer, you'll treat everything like a nail" (Now i give it about a month or so before the latches break on me)
11. Alright...i'm having a problem and need some advice....I recently lubricated all the hinges and moving parts on my saddlebags...NOW, my right saddlebag will latch closed BUT after riding for a few minutes it pops open. I was able to duplicate this by hitting the bottom of the bag a few times and i can easily get the latch to pop. I have taken it apart and put it back together. Everything was tight and it is still doing it. I have not seen anyway of making the latches tighter and i'm in need of some help. This didnt happen before i lubed them so im thinking the lube has to wear off but im hoping someone has an idea...
12. Keep it very simple, some bandaids, alcohol wipes, a few 4x4's, some gauze, tape, burn ointment, tweezers (in case you got pick some glass or rocks out of your skin), one large trauma pad, and an emergency blanket...keep it nice and small...no need for much else
13. no cookies for me this weekend... apparently it takes 8 days to ship a tire from New Jersey to California...
14. Just confirmed the paypal transfer!!! I cant wait!!! buddy...sorry had to send two transfers...i didnt read the $40 per set until after i sent the first $35.
15. Thanks for the advice, i shouldve stated that last year i added the integrated turn/running/brake lights in place of the stock turn signals so i have already modified the rear of the RSV. I also added a 15" LED light bar to bottom of the trunk that is wired to be a running/brake light. Additionally, i added two 3 inch amber led turn signals to the side of the trunk. Needless to say, if any cager ever hits me, the excuse of "i didn't see you" wont really be a valid one!
16. Thanks Flyinfool, that makes sense abt the grounding through the turn signals. Eck, not all the running lights are wired to the turn signals, maybe i wasnt clear about that. The new reflectors/leds were the only lights i was talking about. I couldn't decide if i wanted to use the new led reflectors as turn signals or as running lights so i was experimenting with the wiring to see which one i like better. When i hit my turn signal, the front and rear as well as the respective side markers all blink to indicate my desire to change a lane or make a turn. The dashboard lights, and the rear running lights do not flash as well. I found that with side marker lights that indicate blink with the turn signal, you eliminate the (all be it very small) blind spot that cagers have in regards to our turn signals. Also, with the whole side of the bike blinking they are more likely to see your desire to turn at night instead of relying off of just the rear signal. Kinda why i was experimenting with the wiring to begin with. Thanks guys, i appreciate the input...now back to work!
17. I am in the middle of changing out the side reflectors for LED's. Now the lights i bought from JPCycles.com came with two wires...a yellow and a black. I have read the other threads and I am curious about something... When i was messing with the wires on the bike, i discovered if i hook one of the wires to the running lights and the other to a turn signal, i get a running light that will flash when i hit the turn signal. Can someone explain why/if it would be bad for the electrical system if i hooked the wires up this way?
18. I ran an 8 foot male to female extension cord...and i have a three foot male to male cord that we connect the ipod to. I havent had any problems but worst case would be to replace the 8 foot and start over. The cord is only $10 bucks so im okay with replacing it from time to time. She keeps the ipod in a protective case used for runners that we just wrap around the driver backrest's support. Works great and keeps it from going anywhere!
19. MasterGuns, I was in a hurry when i posted "Top"...I missed that..my bad! Youve gone past Master Sergeant and for that I apologize...Thank you to whomever posted that. I spent 7 years with 1st MarDiv and have to say im a little embarrassed in myself for missing that one! :/ I'll blame it on being in the Navy! That being said.. This thread is hilarious...ill give everyone the history behind the comment and take it for what it is worth. A "HA" was stopped a couple nights ago...older gentleman, 60ish, very nice. He was riding an 2011 Electra Glyde Classic with paper plates...we got to talking bikes (of course) and he asked why i rode metric...i told him because i like to ride more than i like to wrench...he laughed and made the comment i posted...It wasnt meant to bash any particular maker of motorcycle...it was just a funny comment from a guy who has been riding Harley's most of his life. I didn't mean for everyone to start lobbing mortar rounds over the hill at each other..bottom line...two wheels and a motor...thats all that really matters!
20. "Top"...this is a venture board...its ok...you can go to the harley board and make fun of our whiny bikes that have cassette decks...heck, im sure you could pick the venutre apart if you want to...but the reality of it is....you must be riding the "exception" to the harley "rule"...congratulations!!! OohRah and Semper Gumby!
21. While speaking with a lifetime Harley Rider he told me the best thing about owning a Harley... You get to meet a lot of great tow truck drivers! (true story...of course i met him at work as he was on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck...)
22. split the aux in teh fairing and run an 8 foot extension to the the bag...i did this and ran an 8 foot adapter to the rear grab bar so my wife could plug in the ipod and control the tunes on our long rides. If you need help/pictures, let me know.
23. please post how youre setting it up...thanks
