  1. Chrome is good, repeat three times.........perhaps maintenance costs are lessened with this mod since the OEM filters are pricey and the K&N conversion even more so?
  2. "( http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.885035/n.1/it.A/id.732/.f ). " Did you use a velocity stack as listed and if so which one?
  3. Me too....SS Cycle says they charge a restocking fee if returned..so that kinda limits trying
  4. Gotta picture of it? Mine has never moved either, been at 90 mph and it never flew off:scared: but since I am thinking about trying to install the Hogtunes for MS Batwings a locking device might be a good idea???
  5. see very first post...quick release brackets from "Wayne"...........these will give you a set of black powdered coated legs that you then build from to attach the MS batwing....these legs merely fit over the existing mounting pins on your forks, they do NOT latch in as the OEM but rather engage enough so that they can not fly off, it would be very easy to incorporate a locking system if one wanted it.
  6. Harleys are a dime a dozen around here due to mass marketing to the baby boomers, I too am a baby boomer, retired, comfortable lifestyle but remember the days growing up where I strived to be different.....and a quickly removeable batwing on a RSTD is DIFFERENT...
  7. I just noticed that SS Custom Cycle among others is selling a HogTunes audio setup specifically made for MS Batwings http://www.sscustomcycle.com/products/accessories/handlebars.shtml Not sure if this will fit on our RSTDs since the size MAY interfere with the dash? Unfortunately my bike is stored away for the winter and not available for measurements but here is what Shane from SS Custom has posted on another site: "6.5 down from the top of the fairing and 5.5 inward toward the bars.." I hope someone gives this a try before spring comes
  8. 2005 RSTD, owned since September 2004....bike never been dropped until this year....4 times twice while trying to turn around on a narrow uphill gravel road.....understandable right? at the car wash, slight down hill slope rolled off the side stand, swore I had left in in gear! in my garage, rolling backwards and got away from me, laying tight to the wall it took 3 of us to lift if back up
  9. I have the Yamaha chrome set to cover all exposed bolt holes when the rear seat is removed but I have managed to loose the back one.....anyone know any sources where you can buy the equivalent chrome plastic push in covers individually?
  10. Great story, great person!

    Resignation

Saw a guy yesterday at a bike ride with a colors on his back..."Lone Wolf, No Club" I know exactly where he was coming from
  12. I have ran several sets of ME880 on my 05 RSTD and have been happy EXCEPT for the previous rear tire which "chunked". This was un nerving at best....the internet is full of articles about chunking ME880s that are made in Brazil...I am not sure if you can special order German made ME880s from NA dealers or not.
  13. any suggestions on places to winter in the south from the Mississippi west? Wife doesn`t like humidity so Texas is questionable...looking for something like a park model trailer to rent for a couple of months in a safe location, smaller cities are better than large, good riding roads a must:301:
  14. I have had a Zumo 550 for 3 years, worked good up until this spring when it just locked up....returned to Garmin and they offered a refurbished unit for $160 bucks which I thought was fair since I was long past warranty....well the refurbished unit lasted less than a month or 3 uses......it was sent back and now "awaiting part no eta" Got a week long trip planned for next week so I went out and bought a Nuvi 265WT (will use the BlueTooth function in a vehicle) and the appropriate Ram Mount cradle....be aware that you have to make a very minor modification to the Ram Mount cradle if you want to use the Gilson hard wired vehicle power supply due to the right angled mini usb plug...265 offers no routing, music, water proofing but it will do until I find out about my Zumo.....a work around the routing is to enter waypoints as Favorites and then manually pick from the Favorites list, music...back to the iPod, water proofing....zip lock sandwich bag
  15. How about Laughlin? Wife and I are going in Oct on some cheap deal we got thru Harrah`s...wife thinks it will be boring compared to Vegas, but I like laid back..anything worth while doing there or just feeding slot machines and drinking Maker`s on the rocks?
  16. You do NOT need to remove the lower fairings as per the manual to check or change the air filters, a 1/4" socket set with a 6 or 8" extension and a universal joint will work just fine....grrrrrrr! Lesson learned Surprisingly the air filters were very clean
  17. The head of the bolt sure looks like a regular bolt rather than a quick release fastener, but will give that a try
  18. the item identified as "1. Bolt " lower right hand picture chapter 6 page 8 of the RSTD owners manual does not come out, rather it turns and turns and turns Any suggestions on how to remove this? What is the attachment? a nut? a rubber grommet?
  19. whats the best way to punch holes in the neck without blowing your self up? full tank of gas to minimize fumes? what did you use? a center punch or a big nail??

    2011 venture?

I am going to jump in and say 'Liner with new full fairing/lowers, trunk and saddlebags will be new Yamaha Tourer....dont agree with concept but if you hang around the Dephi Ultra Star and Star Stratoline/Roadliner forums you will see lots of people doing it already.......aftermarket batwings and travel trunks are readily available right down to the V-Star level nowadays.
  21. I think that is a perfectly good way of expression..taking an existing idea and pushing it further....thinking out of the box keeps you out of the box if you get my drift...before I found the BuddyRich deflectors I was all set to built fully adjustable air deflectors out of Ram Mounts which would be attached to the air clean pods `cause God only knows they gotta be good for something
  22. well thats different! I have those deflectors mounted in "normal" position and they helped alot in cooler weather. Since the installation of MS Batwing on my RSTD I have removed them since I have batwing lowers installed.
  23. wow... a CVO seems underpowered compared to a Venture......Yamaha must be doing something right...like discontinuing RSTD and Ventures
