OK first, the shock has already been asked for. Next, I am patiently waiting for the new trailer to come in at Lowes, and I have the hitch already on the car. Also have the wheel chock and tie downs. Need to buy some used blankets to wrap the bike in under the cover. Yes, I will give a timetable for the trip, and am definately loking forward to a M&E when we get down there. As far as the color, Seashel, Sandstone. Champain, whatever, as long as it gets painted...

From what you are describing, the problem may very well be the conector found on the left side coming down the frame towards the rear of the engine that connects to the pickup coils. These connectors sometimes get corroded. As was suggested, you may also have a bad TCI unit, which is located underneith the coils under the battery. If your TCI is bad, only one from an 83 wil work as the ones for 84 - 89 are different, and the 89 up are single pickup coil. There is a lot of other things that could now be bad. The kickstand switch can be bad killing the ignition circuit. The way to check that is to short all 3 wires from the kickstand switch together and see if it fires. You can do that at the connector, disconect the conector and push some pins or whatever you can fit in each conection and tie them all together. Caution, make SURE you are in neutral, because now the bike will start in gear. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this site who will be glad to help you out!

OK the big downfall of the MK1 headlight is that BLACK rubber bezel!! Last time I checked black ABSORBS all light, as opposed to WHITE, which REFLECTS all light. The MK2 headlight does not have black but rather a silver reflector, but solver actually does absorb a minute amount of light, being a variance of grey which has an element of black to it. If you want to improve the output of a MK1 headlight, remove the rubber bezel and paint it white with a paint that works on rubber. Clean the rubber with a good detergent followed by a good alcohol rinse... -

If your entire system wsa emptied, the only really effective way is to use a vacuum pump to bleed the brakes. Speed bleeders are also the cat's meow... -

Yah!! It does add to the rigidity of the entire frame system but it can be eliminated wqithout any serious consequences unless you are a performance driver that pushes the envelope... -

No it won't. Well actually it can but you have to change the left side fairing frame and the headlight bezel and chrome trim, and end up with a less efficient light... -
This time it's a MK1 headlight assy with frame and adjuster rod. It is in good to excellent condition, and has a Silverstar bulb in it. PM or answer here...
