Congrats! You will never regret retiring. I got out early and retired at 59. I have never been busier. I don't know how I ever found time to go to work. After retiring, I woke up one morning and noticed the alarm clock on the side table, I thought " what the heck is that doing there?". It went into the garbage.

Don't waste your time if you don't like trivia...

I once left a can of coke sitting on my boat for a month. The coke dissolved the can. Made quite the mess. -

Don't drink any colas, just ginger ale. When I was a kid I drank Kik cola. I have been known to indulge in a few "wobbly pops" or "road pops". We were in a restaurant in Loughland one time. The couple at the table next to us ordered spinach salad flambed with 150 proof rum followed by lobsters with garlic butter. To drink, diet cola. I was tempted to send them a bottle of wine. -
We are going to Bucerias Mex, does that count?

The only lottery I play regularly is the meat draw at our legion. The odds are really good, better than you will get anywhere else, and ALL the money goes to local good causes. I buy the lotto max when it is 50 million but the odds are 1 in 32 million of winning. With 649 they are 1 in 14 million. What I object to is the way the government starts out saying the lottery is for charitable causes then gradually the government coffers become the only good cause. For many years the B.C. government has been after our legion to give up their 50/50, bingo and meat draw licences so they can build a "community gaming center" ( casino) which would take 80% of the income for the government and give 20% back to the community for government approved projects. The legion gives back 100% and to he!! with government approved projects.

Years ago I was working for an airline in Vancouver. I stopped off at a pub after work with a couple friends. It was crowded in there and I accidentally bumped a guy at the next table and he spilled some of his beer. I apologized and offered to buy him another. He got loud and wanted to fight. He had about five buddies with him. I offered to buy him two beers, not good enough, he and his buddies wanted to fight. Finally I had enough and stood up. He stood there then mumbled something and sat down. I figured WTF? then looked around. About 20 guys wearing the same airline jacket as I was were standing up. I was new there and did not know any of them. When I sat down so did they. When I first moved to Saltspring the local pub was nicknamed "The Bucket of Blood". It was not unusual to go in and see two guys hammering each other in a corner. The bathroom walls usually had blood on them. One redneck came up and challenged me. I had been warned, he was small but a real scrapper who fought dirty and was always looking for a fight. He wanted to go outside with me. I said " Think about this, if we go out there and I beat the cra* out of you is that going to change your mind about anything?" He said "no". I said " So it sounds to me like a lot of hard work and pain for nothing, right." He thought about it for a bit then said " You are right" and went back to his buddies and sat down.

I was at work one day when this guy decided he had a problem. He jumped out of his truck and came up to me pulling back his fist, naturally I did the same. He stopped and said " you can't do that" thinking that because I was at work I could not respond. I said " You get the first swing, all the rest are mine." He left.

I once broke a tooth on my wife's scrambled eggs. Yep, true story. In fact it must have been fractured and ready to go when I started eating the eggs, but I am not going to admit that to Janet.

I used to have a '72 El Camino 350 ss. Wish I still had it.

Sometimes things work out great. I was in my truck waiting for the Crofton ferry one day. The lanes are clearly marked 1,2.3. and are loaded in order.I was at the front of the second lane and they had just loaded the first lane when two teen bimbos came down the first lane trying to cut ahead. I pulled over and blocked them then waved all the traffic behind me ahead. They all grinned and waved as they went past. Two ladies in the first car in the third lane pulled up beside me and told me to go ahead, they would take over the block. Teamwork.

I used to look at them and say" I am a coward, I hate getting hurt. You want to hurt me, that means I have to kill you before you can." They would usually blink a couple times then go away and think about it.

Got to fit it in between the return from Bucerias, the Nelson ride, the trip to Wyoming and the Santa toy run and the visit from my son. Dang! It's tough to be retired, ya just don't have enough time.

A friend of mine has a daughter who worked on cruise ships for a few years. She was the scuba instructor. She loved it.

Don't have any here yet but they keep telling us this will be the worst winter in 30 years. Forecast is two weeks of rain. Keeping my fingers crossed. Nice and mild and sunny today and tomorrow.

Cuba is also switching their currency. They used Pesos and US Dollars but they are switching to Pesos and Canadian dollars.

Don't have any alarms here. Never locked the doors. Leave the keys in the truck. Never had any problems. Did have a large dog though for several years. Kept the deer out of the garden.

We had speed cameras here for many years then they got rid of them. They made no difference to the accident rate, just another way to generate revenue. We have government insurance here so on top of the ticket your insurance rate would go up. They are now talking about putting in intersection cameras. Having seen what goes on at intersections I agree with them entirely. They will save lives, especially bikers lives.

Where do you live?

Saltspring Island ( aka Hawaii North) B.C. Where every road is vertical with lots of curves. Sucks down the gas but it is fun. -
I would need avance notice to plan the ferry rides off island.
