  1. I put the Harley Road Kings on my RSTD in place of the stock. Really nice sound. Good rumble at idle, not to loud when you cruise, but makes a little noise if you 'Hit it'. If you do a search for 'road king' and 'harley mufflers' you will see a lot of threads about them. Very popular mod.
  2. I used the 1157 LED you are talking about and didn't like it at all. I don't recommend them at all.I also highly recommend the LED plate for the run/brake light. I used the one from RADIANTZ. (http://www.bikerhiway.com/radiantz-led-tail-light-for-yamaha-road-star-and-vstar-p-176.html) Very bright and very cool. 53.00 Good luck.
  3. I am looking to remove my passenger floor boards as I don't see being 2 up any time soon (wife isn't into riding) and I was wondering if anyone has figured out a plug to cover the holes that would be left behind. I know there is a chrome piece to fit in place of the black cover that has chrome plugs but my RSTD is a midnight and I would like to leave the black cover and find some kind of plug in black. Any thoughts or ideas?
  4. My Father does web design. He has done a couple cool ones including author Stephen Coonts (Flight of the Intruder) site http://www.coonts.com/. He can be reached at info@rogwebs.com. Tell him I sent you (I know that sounds like a line). Jim
  5. PM sent.
  6. Is it the tank overflow or the carb vent? Big differance. The only reason your tank overflow would have fuel coming out is if you overfill the tank or the gas expands in the sun/heat. Puring out is bad. Is it only doing it when it is running? If so, that is more than likely the carb vent and you have a stuck float, then you want to go with the above recommendations.
  7. Just got the scooter back. Dealer said the spline in the final drive was bone dry. Had to be from when it was assembled. Greased it up the tech notes on the repair order said they performed "technical update M2005-015". Not the same number as above, but it worked.
  8. You may want to try booting in safe mode, no network and then run your scans. Sometimes you have to run it multiple times in safe mode to clear the virus or spyware. Then do a normal boot and run your scans on startup. You also might want to try SPYWARE HUNTER in safe mod and normal if that doesn't do it.
  9. I had the same issue with my RSTD earlier this week. I let it cool down, tapped the sides of the carbs as best I could and then blew into the vent tube (while it was off). Not sure if this was a good idea or not but I could hear the gas clearing. I "test blew" the other vent tube and it was clear, so I figure it couldn't hurt. It started hard, but after that it was ok. The float must have come unstuck because the problem went away. Sea foam will hopefully help keep it from sticking again.
  10. I think I have the same problem. I had my '07 RSTD in for it's first service last month. Now I am hearing a clicking noise out of the final drive area when I roll the bike forward or back. I took it in today to the dealer to have them look at it. Only 1100 miles on the thing so everything should be covered. Glad you put the tech tip up. More than likely the issue since they did mess with the final drive for the service. If they baulk or play dumb, I will mention the tech tip. Wish I had read this before I dropped it off.

    trucks

I was worried about that at the beginning, but I tested it after the first 1K and then again in the second year and figured actual milage. The computer was within 1 MPG of my math (lord only knows how screwed up that was...) both times so I figure it's pretty close. Maybe I got lucky with my computer.

    trucks

To be honest, I am not sure. I try to not to reset the computer average any more than I have too. Right now I have a 16 mile commute with a split of highway and surface. I think the last long trip I took it was around 19-20 if I remember right, but that included some surface streets. The computer doesn't have an 'instant' milage on it, only avg. I can reset it next time I am heading up the interstate and see what it does before getting off. I will let you know.

    trucks

Like was mentioned before, don't give up on the full size... I have an '05 Chevy Avalanche that I absolutely love. This truck is amazing. The ride can't be rivaled in any truck, I tested them all, you would think you were in a Caddy, not a truck. Very verisitile, you can fit 6 people with seats up in back, and folded down, it will fit a full size sheet of ply wood and still close the tail gate. Comes with the covers so you can lock up what is in the bed. V-8, plenty of power, tows great. I am averaging 16.9 MPG after 44K miles. Never had a problem with it and if this truck ever dies and I were going to get another one, Avalanche is where I would look first.
  14. Good job! I have been wanting to do this and trying to figure out which bag to gamble on. You have made it easy. Thanks for the pics and sharing the great addition to your scoot. Nice bike too BTW (not that I am prejudice at all... )
  15. I picked this up from another forum, couldn't get a good link so I just copied to here. Not sure if it will work, I am planning on trying soon. Price has gone up some, but still comes out to about $32 + shipping for the chrome stebel. "For those of you looking to get a Stebel Air Horn for your bike, one of the forum members on the RoadStar Riders' forum has a business with a great deal (no, I'm not making commission )... Here's their shopping site: http://www.shop.gpecustom.com/main.sc and their main page : http://www.gpecustom.com/ They're offering about a %25 discount of stated prices, when you checkout on their shopping cart, put 'Star' in the coupon code for the discount to show. This is after you put in your name/address info, but BEFORE any payment in case you change your mind. The 'chromed' plastic version they list for $42 is about $31 after discount, and about $28 for their black version listed at $37" Depending on how long you have had it, the place you got it from may replace it. IMHO, it might be easier than trying to get one from Italy. Hope this helps, Jim
  16. That was changed out, I thought the first gen's came with a record player?
  17. Done did it... try to done do it twice, didn't take... Hope they get it.
  18. Very cool, thanks for the heads up. I was going to head out for a quick ride today, looks like I may have to make a stop.
  19. Just my 2 cents... MAF can do this, so can the bad gas (save a sample as previously recommended), but there are many other things, clogged catalytic converter (if you got diesel by accident this can happen quick), clogged fuel filter (already brought up). Just for the heck of it, if you are under the hood, unplug your battery for 7-10 min. That will reset the on board computer (I am guessing you don't have a code reader to reset it). There is a chance that one of your sensors went south and the computer is trying to compensate. Then hook it back up and try and start. If there is still an issue, the code and check engine light will return. If you have bad gas, you need an additive to clear the water, if you have diesel, well... that could have caused damage to the CAT converter and it would have to be replaced. You may want to at least try contacting the station where you got the gas, if they gave you bad gas, your probably not the only one and they may already be getting calls. Hang in there, and good luck. Hope the friend can help more.
  20. Just got it in Nov, haven't taken many pics yet, none with me in but... here she is.

    Brake/running light backrest mod

Here is a picture layout of the LED mod I added to the passenger backrest. There is a description and lessons learned with each.
