Well to start with after riding for a few miles, I began to realize the seating position was perfect for me, like the V-4 sound and accelleration. The handling was something that came after a couple 2000 miles on the RSV, I began to realize that it was not the bikes handling, but the way I was handling the bike. I have said in several posts the venture is a bike you have to learn, once I caught on the its characteristics, the really handles very well, even at slow speeds. I only put about 2500 on the 99 venture that I had, then a friend wanted it so I sold it to him. Missed it so much I bought the red 2000 two weeks later. Put 12,000 miles on it, during that time I put the nexum car tire on the back, then the avon cobra on frount, and wahooo the bike handles like dream. Unfortunately had I told Micky I would sell it to him, and he took me up on it. I want a white one anyway, found a white 2004 with 8800 miles on it. It had bridgestones on it when I bought it, made it ride and handle like a dog. I changed the tires to the kumho ct on back and Avon cobra on frount, and it rides and handles perfectly. For me the venture has everthing I wanted, the seating position is very comfortable, with riser blocks the handle are in the position, the V-4 motor had the sound, and the power is acceptable( I came off a valkyrie that would run like a bat outa h"""" pure gut wrenching power) so no comparison but the venture certainly has plenty of power. I like the controls, the sound system, cruise. I am just very comfortable on the bike. The only thing I want to see yamaha do to the venture is fuel injection, and replace the cassette deck with gauges from the factory, otherwise it is the perfect machine to me. XM from factory would be nice but not necessary. I have an aftermarket that works great. Gregg

I just knew exercise was bad for you. See I told you so. and I'm a nurse Gregg

That sounds logical, that's why I was thinking a high milege car tire on frount would give better service. If one in the right size could be found. Gregg

Well first of all I was promised a 10 million dollars by my great uncle when he died, but alast his 8 kids wanted all for themselves, so they got lawyers and I not only did not get any money but had to pay the lawyers. Then the dog got sick, vet promised he could heal him for $100 dollars, well the dog got better for a couple of days then died, well the Vet then sent a bill $1000 dollars, which I refused to pay because he had said $100, so he took me to court and the judge said I had to pay it, plus court cost. I got so mad I jumped on my venture and blasted out of the court house parking lot, Well Roy (the sheriff) was setting there in his car and ran me down and pullled me over, he said Gregg that ain't no way to act. So he wrote me a ticket for 150 MPH ( fast second generation)in a 35, The judge threw the book at me. another $2000.00 out of pocket. After that things went from bad to worst, I burnt so much rubber off of my kumho leaving the court house it blew out on the way home. I didn't fall but lost control went in a ladies yard and ran over her prize roses and her pedigree poodle, she called ROY ( THE SHERIFF) who said I had to pay whatever she wanted for both, I really think $10,000 for 5 roses and a mut is extreme. Well then the day got bad from there. When I finally got home the wife said one of her implants had went flat and would have to be replaced, said it sould be no more than 15,000 up frount, and had to be paid by thursday before the surgery. I tired of typing is this enough. Gregg

We all need to write down some contact numbers so we can meet up down there. I really would like to meet in person to get to see the face behind the name. It seems there will be several of us at daytona, my plan to to speak to everyone I see on a venture or royal star. Gregg

Make sure the cable went into the drive on the speedo head, as I remember it can go to the side. I had a speedo head at one time don't remember doing anything with it I will check and see if I still have it in a box some where in my shop. Gregg

I have seen trikes with car tires on the frount, bike no longer leans, tire carries weight and provides steering and braking. But the greater ground contact may make steering harder. Might be something to check out. To answer your question I don't know how the cobra would do on your trike, should ride good. Is there increase in weight on the frount end when I bike is triked.+ Gregg

In my opinion the RSV is the most comfortable, very reliable, and handles great to me. (My personel opinion) I am one who does not like V-Twins at all, my wife has a road star which she loves, and it rides good. but I hate the way a V-Twin runs and sounds. My motto is ( put the v-twin back in lawnmower where it belongs) Enough of my bull,. The RSV is a bike you have to learn, they are great machines, nearly bulletproof engines, but they are different, while they share the looks of the ultra, the RSV handles completely differently. The first time I rode one I really didn't like it, but I had already bought it. Then I took it on a long ride, and FELL IN LOVE WITH IT. I now on my third RSV white 2004, sold the red because I decided I wanted white. Most who ride the RSV really like them, most on here have made mods to personelize their bikes, in different ways handling and looks. Truely the only way to tell how you will personelly like a bike is to take it for a ride, along ride, ofcourse that goes for any bike. welcome onboard and all always ask for advice, there always seems to be someone on here that is knowledgable about any subject. I am reposting this here to answer some questions in other threads. The Avon Cobra I am running on the frount is 150/80R/16 radial frount tire. I bought mine from Bikebandit.com, it was 164.95 Plus 7.95 shipping. they ship fast too. For me this is one of the best things I have done for the RSV, it seems to solve all of the handling problems, and rides great. I do have the kumho ct on back, its a great combo. I really believe that the RSV needs radial tires. I am reposting pictures of mine mounted on the 2004, I will check with Micky he has my 2000 which has the cobra and nexum, to see how many miles he has on it now. Gregg

Its the Avon 150/80R/16 V71, bought mine from bike bandit, 164.95 plus 7.50 shipping, 10% discount for AMA members. I reposted the pictures of mine mounted for you to see. Look at the ride section of the tire, almost soild rubber, very thick, this should be a high mileage tire, have seen guys with valks get up to 20,000 miles on one. My old RSV has one on the frount, I will check with mickey and see how many miles is on it now. Gregg

I would Like to get some started where we have 100 mile Ride or less to meet. Ruffy your in jacksonville on some inbetween us would be a good distance. Gregg

Put an Avon Cobra on frount and you will be even more pleased. Trust me its the combo for the venture. Gregg

Avon Cobra and Kumho C/T Install....Woohoo
footsie replied to Bloodbought1's topic in The Darksiders
That what I been saying, it just makes the RSV ride and handle perfect to me. All of the handling issues just go away. I love it too. The perfect combo for these bikes. Gregg -
Is any one going to the Iron butt ride, starting in Newnan Ga on Sept 26, 09 at 0600. Me and my brother and a friend are going to ride. Will be my first official Iron butt. I've done over 800 miles in day but never a complete 1000 that I remember. Here is a link to info on an Iron Butt ride this month. http://www.mctourer.com/rides/2009/SS1K/Newnan.html Gregg

I don't think it will be a issue selling, I know its there and I bought another one, but I really like these bikes, think its the most comfortable bike I've ever rode. As far the slightly off level while ridding that due to lean of the road, the drop from center line to the shoulder which can as much as 10 inches. The bike is actually leaning left the entire your ridding to compensate. unless you are in a country where ride on the left, then you lean right. Which why the frount tire wears on the left side. Besides look very closely at a harley running down the road, especially a roadking. Gregg

I think this is and optical illusion, the red 2000 I had was damaged at one time and it looked to me to point right, but it would go left if you let go of the handle bars, the 2004 I have has never been dropped or damaged in any way, it appears right like you said, but it will track straight when handlebars are released. Riding behind it, it looking like its running perfectly straight, just the way the bike was designed i guess. Gregg

The RSV is a bike you have to learn, it is different from the vtx completely I have owned both, when I bought the first RSV a 99, after about 2 days I thought I had made a bad decision, but after about 1000 miles, I realized the was the most comfortable machine I have owned. The 2004 have have now is my third, I put the riser blocks on all three, put the leveling links on the 2000 and took them right back off, made the bike handle terrible to me. Put backrest on all three, great improvement. Have avon cobra radial on frount, kumho radial tire on back, greatest improvement of all. To answer your price question, I paid 9500 for my 04 with 8800 miles on it. I think the price is good, don't think you will find one with those miles any cheaper. Gregg
