...can go down the toilet pretty quick. With that said, there is almost always a suprise around the next corner, some of them quite pleasant. I took a three week vacation this summer, and at the start it seem that every turn was away from my planned journey. I originally had planned to head east over the North Cascades in WA then due east from there to other locations... The day my friend and I left, the forcast for the Cascades was heavy rain, thunder and lightening... hmmmm not the best riding weather so the plan changed, south to Olympia for the night (as we had gotten a late start.) From Olympia, we decided to do the northern portion of the Oregon coast. While sitting in Astoria OR having fish and chips for lunch, a gentleman came along and commented on our bikes then asked if we had plans on riding in the area with the forcast for high winds and 2.5 inches of rain for that evening... Change of plans... East along the Columbia to Hood River, over Mt Hood and down to Bend OR that night. It made for a long day, but we stayed dry and the trip was worth it. We left Bend in the morning and headed to Crater Lake, if you haven't seen this beautiful spot, put it on your list of places to go. We saw it despite the torrential down pour on the way there.. We ended that day in Klamath Falls OR. Took a nice slow ride the next day up through OR and ended the day in Burns OR. The next day was also a bit long but well worth the ride, and the point of this novella... We left Burns and headed towards Boise. We then turned north through Idaho City and up through the Lowman Pass... Oh My Gawd!!!! Why have I never heard of this stretch of highway before? Sure, it's not the Sawtooth or Beartooth, but what a sweet stretch of road through some beautiful country. We ended our day In Stanley at the top end of the Sawtooth and regretably had to head north due to time constraints, but there is always tomorrow for those places we haven't been... This stretch of road south of Lowman Idaho was a pleasant surprise on a trip that looked to be going nowhere at it's start. Maybe I was being pushed this way just to find it... http://www3.telus.net/drbar/pics/Lowman%20Pass.jpg

It will vary depending on celebrity attendees etc... $10 to ??? The ride for dad was $25 or $35 straight pledge, or you could get donations from friends and any amount over a certain a level got you free registration. There were draws, food, music etc... PS: 1027 riders raised over $101,000 on that ride. That doesn't even include corporate donations that came in after the fact...

I've been on several different types of charity rides, the most common is the "Christmas Toy Run". Very simple, wrap a new toy in clear plastic and bungee it to your bike, at the end of the ride, hand it over to the organizers of the run for the trip to the local Christmas Bureau for distribution to needy kids. Others ask for a cash entry fee like the "Ride for Dad" I did this year, it was a fund raiser for Prostate Cancer Research. The rides are usually quite well organized and can be anywhere from 10 to 200+ miles long.

The 12 volt power socket on my fairing has no juice. I can't see any blown fuses on the fuse panel. Is there another inline fuse for that socket???

I bought a snow bear trailer from Canadian tire. Put a thin plywood deck on it and mounted a car topper on it... Easy to control the tongue weight with the cooler there... http://bestsmileys.com/drinking/2.gif Just kidding... http://www3.telus.net/public/a5a14519/pics/Bike%20and%20trailer.jpg

I was in Calgary and had a service done to the bike in regards to the final drive. While it was on the bench I asked them to do an oil change and adjust my shocks, 6lbs on the front and 45lbs on the back, (I'm heavily loaded for camping.) When I left Calgary to resume my trip, I noticed the bike just wasn't handling right. Front end wobble in corners was the worst issue I had. Stopped for the night and got out my hand pump and pressure gauge, the left read 0 lbs the right, 2.5 lbs. My rear shock was at 28 lbs... Boy, I'm sure glad I wasn't running Beartooth that day...

Baker air wings have a set, but I'm not too keen on their looks... http://www3.telus.net/public/a5a14519/pics/baker.jpg

I was actually at the manufacturers location in Osoyoos BC Tuesday and the claimed tongue weight is a whopping 23 lbs I picked it up and it sure felt like it. Loading the trailer properly will maintain the weight...

I'm in the dark here. Several people have told me that pulling a trailer will void my warranty. Is this true? Seeing how I plan on buying a Lees-ure Lite trailer, that would definitely put a wrench in the works... On the trailer, I'm currently camping in Osoyoos BC where they're made and took a lengthy look at one on Tues. Pricey, (As I want it equiped) but a great lookin' unit...

For the helmet... The number one impact zone on a full faced helmet is the jaw area... use your own judgement when picking out a new one... As to riding pillion, The best way to deal with cornering is to look over your riders left shoulder in a left turn, and over his right in a right turn. Your body will follow the angle of the bike that way. No, you don't need to lean your body, the bike will do that for you. Don't move around on the bike without letting your rider know, and that includes at stops. A sudden movement could really throw a kink into starting off from a corner. As to telling you to relax, I would suggest that you take a few deep breaths just before mounting up. Maybe going over the planned route before leaving might help as well. Try starting out on some easy routes, then moving up to the more challenging routes as your confidence improves.

Can the RSV electronic odometer be changed to metric?
dr_bar replied to rhighet's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I would love to have a fix from Yamaha to make riding across the border an easier experience. In Canada, the speedo is marked only in km... A button on the dash to switch between MPH and KPH would have been a logical adition to the 2nd gens.- 6 replies

Being relatively new on this site, I haven't met many of the members. To see the out pouring of good thoughts and prayers for a member in need confirms to me that this site was a good choice for me to join. I don't know BigBob but my best wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery go out to him and his family. With plans to pull a trailer with my 2nd gen, I too would be inteested in knowing if BigBob has any insight to the cause of the accident. I'm on the road right now and will keep my eye on this thread for updates on his condition... Doug

From the best of my knowledge, there is no bone "IN" the Carpal Tunnel. It is composed entirely of connective tissue forming a space between the wrist bones to enclose several ligaments, nerves and arteries. This is from memory from consultations before surgery back in 1984. Hell, bodies may have changed or medicine may have come a long way since then... One cause of Carpal Tunnel, is repetitive strain (which is how I contracted it on a timber mill green chain.) What happens is that the "tunnel" swells with inflammation and pinches the nerve going through it.

Thank you one and all for your comments. A second flag pole is in the works, just don't have it as yet. I'm in Olympia Wa. this morning heading to Astoria Or. then down the coast, over to Crater lake then points east and north, probably going through Yellowstone then back into Canada at some point above eastern Montana. If you see a blue and black '07 RSV riding with a teal '93 Goldwing, try not to throw anything too heavy... Doug
