If those of you who are still riding the first gens will look in a mirror...you will find your dipstick. JUST KIDDING...I just thought of that and couldn't let it pass by.

removed cassette, added gauges......done
Freebird replied to jlh3rd's topic in Computer, Lights, Horns, Other Electrical
One thing I forgot to mention on mine. On the adapter that I bought, the hex shape for the wrench to fit on to tighten it went all the way down. It was hitting the raised edge around the threaded hole where you screw it in. I used my bench grinder to grind it smooth to about a half inch up so that it did not hit the raised rim. This allowed it to tighten down completely without hitting. I think my adapter was a different brand than the one that Goose bought and yours may be like his and this may not be necessary. After grinding it though and then using Permatex thread sealer and the washer from the non-foul adapter, I had no leaks at all. I got it pretty tight. Should have used a torque wrench so I could report how tight I tightened it but didn't do so, sorry. -

Unfortunately, I don't know of an actual rebuild kit. Individual parts are usually available from a Yamaha dealer. Maybe somebody else here has a source for a kit but I've never seen one. You can pick up complete sets of carbs sometimes on Ebay for a decent price. If they are that bad, that is something you may want to consider.

This was sent to me by a friend from the MTA. There is some good info here. A lot of it is common sense but worth reviewing. http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Accidents.html

Also...there is a link right in the blue header of the forum that says "Restaurant Reviews". It says: Member Restaurant Reviews Click here to submit your favorite Restaurants

Freebird replied to motorbiketim's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I think that is just slicker n' goose poop. PLUS...I'll bet there are very few choppers in the country that could stay with you. -
It should be OK now. Thanks for letting me know.

Interchanging seats
Freebird replied to Mikealiasmike's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
No, you did OK. You DID post it in the Royal Star forum so I figured that was what it came off of. I'm not sure of the answer though. I'm sure that somebody will chime in here. -

It came of a '99 what? Royal Star or RSV? If RSV, it will fit any RSV from 1999 - Present. -
Scott, We sure need to have more meets and eats here and there is no reason not to do so. Also, you could check out the local chapter here of the MTA. That is Motorcycle Touring Association. They have monthly meetings near Avon, OH but they also have a lot of scheduled day rides as well as weekend rides throughout the summer. I've known most of them for a long time and they are a GREAT group to ride with. A mix of Ventures, Wings, Voyagers, a Harley or two. Very family oriented group. They do NOT require you to join the MTA National to ride with them. Guests are very much accepted. Don

Also, I just did a search and found several references that Combofix has resolved that problem. I've never used it but it sounds like it is worth a try. http://www.combofix.org/

How long since your last oil change and what kind of oil are you using? I've seen this a number of times. I use Mobil 1 Synthetic and have never had much of a problem like that. If my bike sits for a long time, I find that if I try to roll it in gear with the clutch in, it is stuck slightly. This is with the bike not running. I just hold the clutch in and rock it forward two or three times and it frees up. No big deal.

Sunpro tacometer connection
Freebird replied to frank6087's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I have the Baron's tach but the connections are probably the same. I connected it to the positive terminal on the primary side of the coil on the right front cylinder. Removing the gas tank makes it much easier to get to. I don't know how much you know about the electrical systems but the primary side is where you have two small wires connected to the coil with spade connectors. The secondary is the plug wire itself. You can pull off he positive wire and then the easiest way is to pick up a dual connector at parts house. It will have two male spades on it so you can plug the positive wire back into it and then the coil wire onto the other one. If you don't have nor wish to go get the dual connector, you will just have to splice into the positive wire. -

Oh...I also want to express my thanks to Chuck and Linda for being there when two other members were in need. You both exemplify what this organization is all about. Members helping Members. We have a lot of fun, learn from each other and sometimes disagree on things but when it comes down to the nitty gritty...we are there for each other. God Bless you both. -

Looking at the pictures of the bike and reading your story of exactly how it happened, Tom is a very lucky man. He obviously made a great and talented decision to get off the bike when he did. I admire his abilities. Good luck on the rest of your trip...this will be one that none of us, especially you two, will ever forget. -
I agree....I think that most states require them but even if they didn't, it's the responsible thing to do. I would not want to live with myself knowing that my selfishness in not wanting to use the chains was the cause of somebody else getting hurt or killed.

I am really sorry to find out about this. I am so glad that everybody is OK. We all know that there are risks associated with riding a motorcycle and we accept those risks but it sure doesn't make it any easier when we hear of such things happening. As we always say, the bike can be replaced but tom can't so in that regard, we will have to call this a good outcome to a bad situation. Let Tom know that we will keep him and you in our prayers and give thanks that he was able to walk away from it. -
I've been running one for several years now. I have mixed feelings about it. I don't think it really does much for you in just normal driving. I see no real improvement in power in any range. What I do like about it is that it allowed me to set the rev limiter higher and these bikes can still make some GREAT power about the factory set rev limiter. So...I like it but don't know that the money is well spent for those few times when I really want to wind the bike that tight. I just don't do it that often.

No, I actually didn't do anything at all. I saw a chance to do some riding and decided I wanted to get everything back together. For now, I just used a long nylon tiewrap and ran it through the "U" that holds the gauges into the face place. I used one on each of the outer gauges and then just looped them through the holes in the existing plastic box that the cassette used to slide into. Got a nice ride in over the weekend and it worked fine. Maybe I'll do something more permanent the next time I'm in the fairing.
