2008 Venture performance
Freebird replied to a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
There may be a way of disconnecting it but I'm not aware of it. The only way I know of is to go with an aftermarket ignition module, I have a Dyna 3000 on my RSV. It allows you to change it. I have mine set on 7500. They don't recommend going any higher unless you also change to heavier valve springs. In fact, I think they actually say to not go above 7250 but I figure they were just trying to play it safe. -
No problem. That optional backrest that Yamaha shows is made by Corbin. I have the Corbin seat complete with the riders backrest and the passenger backrest on my '99. My wife really likes it. It wraps around far enough that she can rest her elbows on it and says it is really comfortable.

There are a couple of shim tools floating around here somewhere. I'm sure that you could borrow it if we can figure out who has one and where it is right now. -
The manual can now be found in the First Gen Tech Library here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=464408#post464408

A huge thanks to Saltydog for converting this manual to a .pdf file and making it available for all our VentureRider members. He says it is a good resource for members needing troubleshooting and operating instructions for the Yamaha CB radio. It is a good source for all the part numbers. You can right click on the link and then "save as" to download it to your computer. [/url]http://www.venturerider.org/cbinstall/venturecb.pdf

Anyone from Arkansas going to Don's Maint. Day?
Freebird replied to ctraylor's topic in Watering Hole
Lake Caddo is one of my all time favorites. I've been on it many times. The fishing wasn't that great but it was a beautiful lake. -
They have never been an option from Yamaha. They could have been Clearview shields or they could have just been installed in the stock or other shields by the owner. You can buy the vents and install them in any shield.

I'm a bit fan of the Edsets also. I've tried the upper end models from J&M and from AirRider and both left a lot to be desired in my opinion. The secret to the Edsets is to get them close to your ears. They are VERY thin and if you mount them deep in the recesses made for other headset speakers, they will not sound very good. I actually have mine attached on the inside of the liner right next to my ears. They come with small pouches to slip over them and you can sew those pouches right to the inside of the liner. They are so thin that they do not hurt my ears and sound great. I have not tried the ear buds but it makes sense that they would sound the best of all.

Anyone from Arkansas going to Don's Maint. Day?

Well in this area, it is mostly Lake Erie Yellow Perch or Walleye. Both very good also. I don't fish much but a good friend is a big fisherman and he and his wife will come over from time to time with a couple of big bags of one or the other. We cook it outside in the turkey/fish fryer and there is nothing like cheating and eating a few pieces:thumbsup2: right as you bring it out of the fryer. -

When I was growing up in NE Texas, there were a lot of place around Lake of the Pines to get GREAT catfish. Fantastic fish, great hushpuppies, green tomatoes, etc. Many of them were the hole in the wall type and most are probably gone now. Farm raised catfish pretty much took over the market but I have fond memories of those great lake caught fish and later even river caught fish when I lived in Alabama. -
I've never driven one but they sure look great. Ford has come a LONG way over the past few years. Not that they were ever really bad but they just seem to have gotten their act together much quicker than the other US car makers.

Prayers for here also. I know that is the worse of times as I went through it with my father. Very hard to deal with.

Maybe they are still in crates.

I updated it. So...what happened to number 470?

Just click on "Community" in the menu bar and then you can select the state. You should see him listed there. -
Something like this? I actually started this one long ago. Really don't promote it but it has always been here. http://www.venturerider.org/venturemm/

My 2009 RSV and Whine
Freebird replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I think I was wrong in the way that I said it. I have argued this here forever that there is a difference between a whine and a clutch basket high pitched "chirp". I fell into the trap this time of using the word "whine". ALL these bikes have a whine and that is caused by the straight cut gears and you are not going to get rid of it. When we are talking about the "chirp" though, that is what I am saying that not ALL bikes have. Some have almost none, some a little but not offensive and some sing like a canary. Now with this much needed clarification, I'll stand by my statement. Oh...and other very easy way to determine which noise you have...even though to me they are entirely different...is that I can usually hear the clutch basket "chirp" even when the bike is idling though it get much louder and more annoying at speed. You cannot here the "whine" at idle. -
Well you can all joke and laugh but I'm telling you, I do NOT want this issue wiped under the table.

I agree that the cameras are not the solution. Catching and putting REAL fines on those who do it is the answer. I just don't think it's right to ticket the owner of the car not knowing who the driver was. As for the cost of putting them in, I doubt it costs anything. I know that in some cities it is done with a contract with the manufacturer. I was talking to a customer somewhere around Akron, OH and he was spearheading a petition drive to get the issue on the ballot to have them removed. He told me that the city had entered a contract with a manufacturer and that the company put in the cameras free of charge and they get a percentage of all the tickets written. It was a no loose deal for the city.

My 2009 RSV and Whine
Freebird replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would doubt that it has the "I" basket in it. The fact is that MOST of these bikes do not have a whine that is offensive. You read a lot of posts about it here but in the grand scheme of things, they make up a small percentage of the bikes sold. I don't think Yamaha has ever installed the "I" basket as the standard simply because if it were installed in the majority of bikes that don't need it, it would likely cause problems on those bikes. I would suggest that if yours is too loud, you take it to your dealer and complain about it. Ask them to have Yamaha authorize the swap. -
I THINK mine was a '95. I really like it to. Wouldn't mind still having it.

Too much whine:?
Freebird replied to GOINtoHELL's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Well, I personally think that it is bad enough. It really sounds annoying to me. I think it's worth having checked out. -
