Most of you already know this stuff but for those who have never been to my maintenance day before, here is a bit of info. The official day is actually Saturday June 4th. This started out as a one day even but has grown a bit over the past few years. Some people start rolling in as early as Thursday afternoon now. Many don't leave until sometime on Sunday. Most of you have hotel rooms already but for those who plan to camp, there is plenty of room in the front around the pond or in the back if you prefer. There is a small fire pit in the front by the pond and there is a larger one behind the house. There is plenty of fire wood that you are welcome to use. One thing new this year. I have rented a porta potty that will be delivered on Friday. There is also one bathroom downstairs just inside the house from the garage. There will be no hard fast rules but I am going to encourage the guys to use the porta potty and keep the inside bathroom open for the ladies. The food is ordered and will be delivered sometime between noon and one o'clock on Saturday. This is the only meal that will be catered. There is not set price for this meal. There will be a donation can to help with the expenses. Other meals are up to you. I know that many of us will be going to Quaker Steak on Friday evening and hopefully many of you will join us. For anybody wishing to do so, there is a gas and charcoal grill on the rear deck and you are welcome to use it. There is a Walmart just about 3 or 4 miles away if you need to buy groceries or any other items. There is an Autozone parts store in that same area if you need any oil, filters, etc. We sometimes try to do a ride on Saturday evening or possibly even on Sunday. Nothing specific planned at this time but we can discuss it and do what you all wish to do. We usually have nothing really planned for Saturday night and most just sit around and visit. It is always a good time. I know that we have some guitar players attending and it would be fun if some of you want to do a little picking and grinning. I have two acoustics and an electric here that you are welcome to use. JUST BE CAREFUL with them. Last year, we tried to wrap up all the actually "maintenance" on the bikes by around 4:00. I think that worked out pretty well. We try to get to everybody's lists of items but there is only so much that we can do in a day. Please bring any supplies and/or parts that you might need or might not be available from AutoZone or Walmart. Also, Pioneer Motorsports will be here. They are a Yamaha dealer coming down from near Buffalo, NY and will have a variety of parts and supplies including tires, brake pads, etc. If you need them to bring anything specific, please see the "sticky thread" at the top of the watering hole and post there are PM Chad. Now I THINK that most are aware of this but just to be sure. If you have things that you need done to your bike, remember, there will be plenty of folks who are willing to pitch in and help you but NOT do everything for you. The purpose of maintenance day is to help each other and learn from each other. So please be prepared to roll up your sleeves and get involved. That's what it is all about. I'm sure I'm missing some details so feel free to ask any questions that you might have. It's getting close and I'm getting excited about it now. It's going to be a great time as always.

Shootout at the Ponderosa Corral - Int'l Rally
Freebird replied to Lone Eagle's topic in Watering Hole
As fun as it would be, I doubt that I will be participating. I don't think we will arrive until sometime Monday and I'm sure I will be plenty tired by then. Sorry...but I'm going to have to concede that that old Owl wins this one. -
Yea, I've been in Dayton a few days and it's been bad here too. My wife said that she and the dogs went to the basement the other night when things got pretty bad but everybody is OK. Hope you can swing by on Maintenance Day. We have a good time.

Cranks but no SPARK!
Freebird replied to mbelik's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
If it just cranks in the off position, you probably have something wired wrong. Just to eliminate other possibilities though. Put the kickstand UP, make sure the bike is in neutral, put the kill switch in the on position and try again. -
Carb Synch Cold Hot Weather...
Freebird replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've never experienced anything like that on my '99. I've synched the cards and then ridden it in weather from the high 90's all the way down to freezing temps and did not feel that they were affected by the temperatures. -
In my opinion, based upon what you have posted, you did absolutely NOTHING wrong and it sounds like you are dealing with a complete idiot.

The only members that came up in the database were Rick and Linda Porter and it looks like he hasn't been around since the end of 2009. I still hope that they are OK though.

I use this. Have been using it for probably 10 years. http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Other_Products/Mobil_1_Fully_Synthetic_Gear_Lube_75W-90LS.aspx

OK...according to my part number cross reference software, the part number of the rear disc is 4NK-2582W-00-00. It shows the same part number for all Royal Stars from the 1996 models all the way through the current RSV.
-
OK....do a video of your WIFE singing and we'll vote on who's coming with you.
-
I'm not ignoring your question, I just don't know the answer. I will see if I can compare to part numbers and find out if nobody else responds today.

That's fantastic Eddie. I know it will be a great experience for her and you must be very proud. Give here our best, I'm sure they will do great.

Finally got around to registering Eileen and I for the International Rally. Also made hotel reservations. We will be staying at the Comfort Inn. Would have liked to stay at the Skyline because I think that is where most of you are staying but I've got free rooms at the Comfort so need to save the money. Really looking forward to the trip and I hope that MANY of you will get registered soon. We really need to start ramping this up now and get all you folks excited about it. It's going to be a GREAT time.

Geeeeezzzzzzzzzz folks....TRUST me. No rain on maintenance day. It's a tradition.
-
There IS a method to my madness. BUT...it has NEVER rained on Maintenance Day. It's just not allowed.
-
What a silly question...of COURSE you should go to maintenance day.
-
OK folks, I went ahead and ordered a set of Sonic Springs. Goose reminded me that now would be the time to install new springs if I had the desire to do so. So, that is another thing that you will see done if you decide to attend this clinic.

The early Royal Stars didn't have near the HP of the '99 and up RSV and the new model RSTDs. The RSV and RSTDs put about about 99 HP at the crank. I don't remember for sure but I think your Royal Star was made somewhere around 65 HP. Maybe a bit more but I know if was a lot less.

accesory outlet fuse?? Where is it
Freebird replied to muaymendez1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yep, you have to remove the lower right cowling to get to it. -
I'm not sure. I never take the collar with me. I agree with Twigg, it's a light weight piece right around the axle and is just not going to affect the balance. I know that one year at Maintenance Day, Sleephawk took his wheel to have a tire mounted and we ended up going back to find the collar. Luckily it was laying on the floor beside the changer. They fall out pretty easily and I just take it out before taking my wheel to the shop so that I don't lose it somewhere.

Sorry to hear about the delay Gary. Don't worry about the bearings. I'm almost 100% sure that I won't need them anyway so it's not a big deal. Just take care of yourself.
-
Yes, you can try that. I've never seen an Avon that needed that much weight though. I still say that something is just not right. Either you got a bad tire or they don't know how to balance them.
