Lower Temp Fan Switch
friesman replied to JoeKanuck's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Cool mod, gives a guy a little peace of mind.... I think most guys in here are of the opinion that the needle in the temp guages on most G1 Ventures is set to show the engine as running hotter than it is.If it was me I wouldnt worry about putting a switch on the fan. I used to worry about it when I first bought the bike, but ive never had an issue even in temps well over 100F (39C) Mine runs right on the edge of the redline and the fan cools it down right away, but Ive never heard my coolant bubbling in the over flow tank so its not getting too hot. I have one that I cut a hole in to put a standard automotive radio into, youre welcome to that if ya want it. I use the helmet radios now, and have the radio right outta the bike and ordered a new filler panel again. I got it a year ago from partshark but not sure if theyre still available new Brian -
I got the ok yesterday from thr eye doc to go for a spin after a bit over a month of sitting around wasting all the nice weather. the bike has been sitting covered out back so I go back and she started right up, I let it run for quite a while to get warm and run some seafoam thru the carbs. When I swent to go for a ride I make the first corner and pull in t clutch to shift and notice a drip onto the filler panel where the radio normally sits. , and when I checkwhere its coming from its brake fluid...i look around and see the sight glass has a crack in it. I was wondering about a cheap way to fix it, and thinking that JBWeld and soething about the size of a coin over the glass opening would fill that and fix it. Has anyone tried this? And do you think it will work? I also notice that it feels that Ive got a back brake drgging on the bike too, any easy ways of fixing that too? I am still having issues focusing on close objects so I am having to stick to simple jobs until this vision clears up. Thanks for the help and advice, Brian

Actually, Ive had to throw Jerky away on the way into the US because of the overblown Mad Cow Scare. So I think it might work the other way coming into Canada too, I would take what you want, if its an issue they just make you throw it away. But we sell lots of jerky up here, and its probably a brand you see down there anyway...

the 85 has the cruise light in the tach and the clock at the bottom like the 86 and up, but I am not sure if they are exactly the same as the 86up. I have one from an 86 but havnt tried it, so I cant say for sure. I can loan it to you if you need it to diagnose something. Brian

NOpe , it aint difficult at all, but I have heard that it is somrtimes more difficult getting back into the US as your border staff are looking for contraband, but very seldom have I heard of any searches. it is possible to bring a hunting rifle up here if youre going hunting, but ive heard the paper work is needed In this area we have thousands of US hunters coming up every fall for birds, bears and deer, and they all bring up their own equipment, so I know its done regularly. But to be honest, leave the gun at home if you want to just flow through customs. Brian If you have any issues with courts, best to check out ahead of time to see if youre going to have an issue at the border.

looking for a trike kit for my 2003 venture
friesman replied to butch882's topic in Trike & Sidecar Talk
keep in mind that you cant import a completed trike into Canada. the kit has to be imported and then assembled in Canada. As I understand it this law was a sideeefect of getting those unsafe Honda Big Red trikes out of the marketplace years ago. Big Bob here has just has his compllted this spring at a dealer in Winnipeg, but I heard he had issues with the dealer and I dont think he will recommend the dealer there. Send him a message or call Bob, he may have info about the Canada import issues. Brian -
ah, that changes things, I was under the impression that the levelling links lowered the bike, if it raises the bike it does create some different iissues, for sure. Maybe instead of buying the center stand you could talk to carbon One and get one of his jack stand adapters with legs. then you could just leave the bike on it for work to be done or winter storage.

I dont know for sure as mine is an 85 G1 , but I would think it might be hard to get onto the center stand with the bike lowered, and there may be issues with clearance on driveways entrances, etc. You could do something a lot of G1 riders do to make it easier to get the bike on the center stand and thats to just park on a 2x4 with you rear tire, it gives you a good lift and its way easier to get the bike onto the stand. the VentureMP3 guys from Spain have a plug and play interface for the G1 ventures , its a simple plug it in and go install under your existing radio, and it gives you a plugin.for about 60 bucks I think. for another 50you can add a bluetooth unit to it so you dont need to have any wires plugged in from your mp3 player. they had a you tube video about it but i cant find it right now. Here is the link for thei Venturemp3 for the G2 bikes,http://www.venturemp3.com drop Jesus a line and tell him what you want and make sure they know youre with venturerider there is a 10% off sale on until early August. link to the ventureaudiol;ink http://ventureaudiolink.wordpress.com/ Brian -
If you have another Yamaha dealer close by check on their pricing. Now I call around for pricing, I look up the number first so i dont waste too much time on the phone and call 3 dealers within a short drive from me. The dealer here in town is ALways 30-50% more than the other guys. Usually i get good price from the ooutta town guys, I just have them drop it on mail or on the bus and I have it in a day or so. shipping from close by isnt too badly priced. It seems to me the small town guys that sell the quads etc, look at the parts pricing differently than the bike guys

I think the no-texting law here has made things worse around here. Its illegal to text or use your cell except on a hands free device. and the fine is steep at about 250 bucks, and its a safety violation so a surcharge gets added to your insurance the following year. But as a result people are holding the phone in their lap and still texting so now instead of taking your eyes off the road and looking at the steering wheel they are now looking way down low in the car making response times even slower. I got hit from behind while stopped at a red a while back and could see the girl looking down at the phone in her lap for about half a block before she hit me.I was trapped in a lane and couldnt go anywhere, good thing i wasnt on the bike.
