Yep ! 28MM on the early ones, and 32 MM on the later ones. Lynn the Pegscraper wrote an excellent article about this in the tech section. Thoroughly explained to say the least. He has done this to his 1996 Royal Star so he knows all the fabs that needed to be done.

Goose must have meant to say: but the 2005 and later RSTDs instead of but the 95 and later RSTDs . I think that the following is correct and please "anybody" let us know if I am wrong. Note - I am excluding the First Generation: The Royal Star was made from 1996 to 2001 with a 67 hp engine. The Royal Star Venture was made from 1999 to present with the 96 hp engine. The Royal Star Tour Deluxe was made from 2005 to present with the 96 hp engine. The 1996 to 2001 model came in different versions and were named for example: Tour Classic II Tour Deluxe Standard Boulevard They all had the same engine output 67 hp but could have a different setup like different sidebags, exhaust and add ons.

There we go Condor. Couldn´t agree more. It is not going to make any difference if the site is going to loose members. Only the core members count financially - that is those who have interest in this site and the fellowship and helpfulness and have contributed when needed. And like you said - anybody can find a way to contribute 12 $.

Well, I am not sure that the number of members will decline in the coming time since there is a registration fee. But I do agree that there has to be a trial period for the site. Like the Venturers.org have 14 days trial. And note - They have roughly 5.700 members and a 20 US$ yearly fee and they are growing every year. Once people see what is inside the VR.ORG they will be wanting to have future access, at least that is what I thought when I joined about one and a half years ago. Actually the first thing I asked about was: Who is paying for all this and where does the money come from. Pretty soon found out that most of the heat was on Don´s shoulders. I am at least happy that Don came to the conclusion of asking for membership fee. I think this was just a matter of time since the site has grown rapidly. It will take years for him to cover the money he has personally put into this site that is if he ever will recover, not to mention the unpaid time spent. Remember the money Don has spent on keeping this site up and running is not being spent on him or his family and the same goes for the time he spent. The time and money has been spent on the site for us. Therefore I believe we should contribute as much as we can. Some have a lot - others have little to give but every dollar counts. I am not a rich man but will always reach out and help a friend if I can - In my books that is what a friend is for. To be able to do that I have simply quit spending money on some things I can do without and use them for donating instead.We all spend money on something we can do without. For example - lets buy one less six pack of beer - Unsubscribe our entertainment magazine - and the list goes on and on. Don has done more for me by creating this site and keeping it up and running, than I can ever do for him. Lets all do our utmost to help.

Tour Classic leather saddlebags

These bags rarely show up on eBay. Think I have only seen them once last year. But another option is to replace them with the Tour DeLuxe/Venture hardbags. I have a set of hardbags for my 1998 Tour Classic II and they are a bolt on with no adjustments needed. Only need to paint them to match the bikes color. -

Well Don Today I actually don´t believe a thing I am told after gotten cheated out of bed this morning at 6:00 hours by a friends SMS. Polar Bears spotted on the north coast (where my hobby farm is) live coverage on TV. Was standing in the middle of the den on my underwear clicking all the remote controls, trying to find the right TV channel with the live coverage when my wife called from the bedroom saying: Honey - get back to bed - it was the 31st. of March yesterday and you are a big boy so you should be able to figure out the date today !

Denis. I am also not a mechanic but I removed the tire and removed the whole rear end away. Had half a bike sitting there and thought: how will I be able to get this all together? Did it step by step using the manual as well as the tech library here on VR.ORG as well as common sense. Had no problems - just took my time. So just do it. Start by removing the tire and do the splines and the hub pins. Just leave the final drive for now.Most likely wont need any service anyways. My bike is ten years old with 12.000 miles and the drive shaft splines were still greased enough. By the way - Great looking bike you have - Cant figure out why in the world you would want to put a car tire on this beauty??

What about running Seafoam through the oil for cleaning up the friction plates? I called Seafoam about a year ago and asked about this and they said it was quite O.K. to do this. Don´t think though that you can substitute the oil with pure Seafoam since I am not sure if Seafoam has any lubricants in it. Has anybody of you guys tried this? Note I would not try this unless I had 100% guidance from Seafoam or somebody with full knowledge. Wouldn´t it be right to assume that in time there would be a build up (thin layer) on the plates from the hot oil seperating that would cause slippage and could/should be cleaned off. Especially if the wrong oil is used? Any thoughts?

Take the fairing to a qualified auto paint shop. Ask them for advice. They can surely tell you if it is possible to buff this out or if you need a new clear coat. Preparing and clear coating the fairings should not cost that much if you dismantle and put back on yourself. Have them tell you what to do since it is difficult to advice on such a thing without seeing it.

Bought my first Royal Star Tour Classic II 1998 with 9.527 miles December 7th. 2007.Shipped it to Iceland and the bike arrived here in the end of March 2008. Now has 11.859 miles on it and it is snowing outside. Will not be able to do much riding here in Iceland this summer since I will most likely be working in Greenland this summer. Bought my second Royal Star Tour Classic II 1998 with 18.670 miles, April 13th. 2008. Stationed in Woodstock, NY and waiting for my arrival in June for Freebirds Maintenance Day. Now has 18.863 miles since my mechanic had to take it for a spin after going through it and fixing some light damages. Both bikes are exactly the same - Camellia Green / Beige. Just love the older Royal Stars.

I use a swedge rod that one can change the reading plates when extending the rod. Took it to a friend of mine who has a high end "click wrench" and we did some accuracy tests. Mine was around 5% off and is accurate enough for me. A good Click wrench in Iceland costs around 400 US$ but I got this one for 90 US$ and it does everything I need to do. I only use this for critical points like axles etc,. And I use "Lock Tite" the mildest version on most accessory and body part bolts. Never had a bolt get loose on my bike after putting the stuff on.

Glad that I could be of some help. Now remember that when you have pulled the driveshaft out of the frame tubing and greased it and you are ready to slide it back in you have to raise the yoke that is inside the frame tubing so the shaft will slide in. If you don´t do that the the shaft can go above the yoke and will therefore not engage (i have been there). On the top front of the tubing is a hole that is covered by a rubber plug. Remove the plug and use a coathanger wire or simply some kind of small size metal rod (I used an allen key) to hold the yoke up in the middle of the tubing. Then carefully slide the driveshaft in the tubing and hopefully it will slide right in the yoke. Note this might take two or three tries and it is better to have somebody help keeping the yoke in the middle while you slide the shaft in. and you might also have to turn the shaft just a little bit for the splines to fit each other. Note that you should first attach the driveshaft to the differential and then slide it in the frame tubing according to the manual. I tried both and found the manual to be right. Here are some extra pictures and info you might find helpful:

First you slide the bolt through the rear arm. then you install a washer between the rear arm and the brake caliper bracket and continue pushing the axle throught the bracket and into the wheel. Make sure that you have the collar inserted inside the wheel. Then you simply push it through and put a washer before the final nut. Have a look at the picture. It should show you how this is supposed to be.

You should only have to remove the right side muffler to get the rear wheel off. I just did this recently and did not change the gaskets on got no leaks. This depends though on the conditions of the gaskets. Have a look at them and if they look torn bad in any way then replace them. You can also just reuse them and start the bike up and check if you have leaks. It only takes about ten minutes to install the muffler so if it leaks it is not a big deal getting new gaskets and replacing them..

Don! I only have one advice - DON´T DO IT. I´ve been there and made some good money and lost some but I played by the rule of selling when I was down 10% and when I was up 20% - at all times. But it was to stressful. I have my money secured with rather low interest but I sleep like a baby. A good nights sleep is worth a lot. And like someone said here above - Don´t invest more than you are willing and you can afford to loose.
