Bought a Millenium 2000 Venture about 4 years ago in the States without seeing it and my good Buddy Craig (cecdoo) went and picked it up for me and kept it in his garage for 4 years - What a friend. Last fall when I was in the US I stayed for some days at Craig´s and Kim´s lovely home in PA and with the help of Craig we took the bike half way up to Main to a transporter that delivered it to the shipping yard for the voyage to Iceland. Will never forget when I walked into Craig´s garage and laid my eyes on the bike for the first time - and said to Craig: Did I actually buy this heap of Cr,,, Craig ?? His answer was simple: YES you did. I have been thinking of selling it for spare parts but I actually think it will shine up pretty nice ! Well to make a long story short the bike arrived in Iceland mid October 2017 and I took it to my workshop and started looking at what needed to be done - man that list was long: 1. Badly leaking Valve cover gaskets: Adjust valves and replace gaskets, clean the carbs and adjust floats, carbtune. Replace and relocate the fuel filter. Replace air filters. Replace oil filter. 2. Looking like it had never been serviced: Change ALL and EVERY fluid. Back and front brakes, clutch, rear drive, fork oil and cooling liquid. change all brake pads and install speed Bleeders for brakes and clutch. 3. Electrical wiring was shady to say the least: Go over all the wiring harness, solder dubious connections, add relays, change connectors and prevent the harness to catch fire (there was a real danger of that), do the ignition ByPass, part out added shabby fuse box, rewire heated grips,horns and driving lights. Rewire the whole horn harness. 4. Service all greasing points: Tear off the rear end and go over the drive mechanism, grease the splines and drive shaft. Remove swing arm and pack bearings. Remove shock, dog bones and the chunk that holds the spring in place, clean and grease everything up. 5. The body work: Replace lower left front fairing and repaint both fairings. Repaint the trunk lid because of cracks in clear coat. Replace some of plastic covers in lower front fairings. Paint all black plastic in the Pearl white color of the bike as well as the steel cover for the rear brake resorvoir. 6. Replace both engine guards: Both engine guards proved to be bent beyond repair so both had to be replaced. 7. Cleaning: Degrease all and every part of bike, frame, engine, body you name it - the whole bike under and over. Buff chrome and other parts with rubbing compound. Polish everything to a high gloss shine. Buff heads of rusted bolts to chrome shine. Remove and buff front wheel covers and tripple tree. Replace fork covers with some chromed ones. 8. Seats: They looked like dark brown and had to be thouroughly cleaned. Patched the driver seat and cleaned the others. Came out almost like new. And the list goes on and on,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Well I am almost done - The last thing needed is adjusting the valves and replacing the valve cover gaskets. Install the carbs and the rest of the bike and she hopefully will fire right up and be ready to go,,,,,to a new owner !! Here are some pictures from the process - Craig was right - She is beginning to look pretty nice Would not be here if not for Craigs patience and help. Best bike keeper ever

Hey Puc ! Want to adopt me ! I am open minded on the issue

My suggestion would be taking the seat off, gas tank and front part of front fairing. First check battery connections and make sure they are solid. Work your way to the front of the bike and check every ground connection you can find and make sure there is no paint under them and tighten up good. Clean all connectors / plugs. Check if the previous owner has added any extra electrical accessories and go through all connections he has done. Solder and shrink tube all added wires if not done and get rid off any thieves. Regarding the headlight going dim /bright, then I had that issue on my 98 Tour Classic. Turned out it was the bulb - see old thread: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?74172-Flickering-headlights I would also do ther Ignition By Pass - there are detailed instructions in the technical library http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?75398-By-passing-the-Ignition-switch. Therre is also a fuse between the battery and the realy as my PDF. drawing shows. My main interest was to prevent the battery from going dead if grips were accidentally left on after turning off the ignition.

Finished hooking up the Heated Grips with a relay. Everything works perfectly, thanks to Brian for a detailed information that got me through this. Now I only need some studded tires for the Red Baron and I am all good to go - Naw,,,,I´ll wait for spring. Hot Grips Relay Connections.pdf

The grips do not come with a variable heat controller but Hot Grips mfg. do offer a variable heat controller as an option - Mine are without the controller and have a toggle switch with three options: 1. Low Heat 2. OFF 3. High Heat The resistor is a 2,4 OHM / 25W. Now lets see if those babies will heat up and if the Low and High settings are working after I finish installing today - I´ll keep you posted Be safe, Jonas aka StarFan

Just to be sure, here is a diagram based on your info - Would this be the correct way, and will this work in that way that the grips cannot turn on unless the ignition is on - meaning that there is no danger of draining battery if Grip Switch is on and bike parked ? Was also wondering if it matters if the 87 goes on Low or High side of the restrictor ??

Greetings fellow members. Am rebuilding a MM 2000 Venture here in Iceland. It had a very crappy wiring to all the added goodies and I am in the process of rewiring most of it and adding Ignition bypass and so forth. So far I have fixed and soldered everything except for the Heated Grips. The bike has heated Grips but no relay for them. I would be much more comfortable with having a relay but am kind of lost in how to hook it up. Here below is a wiring diagram from the producer of the grips but without the relay that I have added to the diagram. Could someone enlighten me on how to hook this up with a relay ? Greetings Stu and welcome aboard. If the salvage company Puc pointed out will not have what you need then you should check eBay on regular basis. About a three years ago I needed both lower fairings for a MM 2000 model Venture. Took me three months to find them on eBay - got one with the right color and one blue. The blue one was brand new and the one with the right color was used but in excellent shape. Got both for a total of somewhere around 300 US$. Just be patient if you go the eBay route - they will turn up for sale eventually. Just be careful not to buy seriously banged up ones. Try to get some in good shape - my experience is that the price different is minimal between bad ones and good ones. My experience with Pinwall is that they are pretty pricey on used parts and they are often in bad shape. Have burned myself a couple of times shopping with them but have also gotten very nice parts from them. So be picky before deciding on a purchase. Wish you luck and will shoot you a Private Message if I see one available on the web.

I have a Clymer that is only for the Second Gen Venture. First edition 2003. CORRECTION: Has a picture of the Venture on the front but when I turned the pages it seems to be for both the Royal Stars from 1996 as well as the Venture. Also says on the front cover: Yamaha Royal Star. 1996 - 2003. Inside the cover on the foirst page: First Print 2003.
