  1. Greetings fellow members. Am looking into getting a Goldwing trike to use in the US. Have been looking at the trike forums for some info on different trike kits but these guys are very passive regarding info on goods and bads for different kits. I did notice though that there are a lot of discussions about the driveshaft problems on the CSC kits and people seem to complain a lot about there customer service regarding this fault. I have actually nailed my interests down to a Roadsmith or/and the Hannigan kits. It is said that the Roadsmith is a little sturdier built than the Hannigan but I like the looks of the Hannigan more than the Roadsmith. Specially like the rear spoiler on the Hannigan (Whale Tail they call it). Would most likely opt for the Roadsmith if they offered a spoiler on their kit or if I could add the Hannigan spoiler to the Roadsmith. Doubt that it is possible though since I would guess that there has to be somekind of extra strengthening in the body where the spoiler is fastened / bolted on. Was just wondering if anybody on our site has any experience with these kits and the Goldwing ? (of cause the Royal Star is also an option but the Goldwing would be my foirst choice - will always keep a Royal Star in my shed though : >) If anybody on this forum has any experience or knowledge about the above or even knows a specialist then please chime in : >) Friendly regards from Iceland, Jonas aka StarFan
  2. Just recently the same issue started on my 2000 model Red Baron. I lubed the ignition and it made no difference. Used a new key and still no difference. Then I started playing around a little with the key in the ignition. Found out that it turned effortlessly if I just pushed it lightly forward while attempting to turn it. Works every time. The reason for this in my case is most likely that the slots for the key in the ignition are getting worn out. I am not gonna take any chances of being stranded so I am ordering a new ignition for it.
  3. Greetings Jim and welcome to the club I have done this about three times and it is not an half hour job. It is quite some time since I did this last time so I am writing this by memory so I am sure there are some that might chime in and correct me if I am wrong. I found out the first time I did this that there are no shortcuts (at least none that I know of). Second time I did this I decided that the most logical thing to do was to use the oppurtunity to chance the coolant and then undo all hoses to get this done properly. The thing is there is a kind of a strut on the top of the radiator that goes into a slot to keep the radiator in place, and the radiator cover has to slip over the top of the strut. With all the hoses attached there was not enough play to get the strut out of the slot and to such position I could slide the cover over the strut. SO - If I remember right - It served me best to undo the radiator, use the oppurtunity to chance the coolant (remember the water pump) - and install that great looking cover. But maybe there is someone on the site that knows of easier way to do this.
  4. Here is the link to Freebirds write up. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?10518-Clutch-Upgrade Just follow Freebirds instructions and you will be up and rolling. Be careful not to tighten the bolts for the spring plate to much. I have written down in my notes that they only need 5,8 f.lbs. but Dragonslayer says 8,7 f.lbs. and he might be right - if you overtighten and brake the bolts/strip the threads (it doesn´t take much) you could be looking at replacing the clutch boss. It is also a good idea to check the bearing in the pressure plate. Last time I did this upgrade I noticed it was not rolling freely due to som residue/sand sitting in it. I replaced it but most likely it would have been enough to clean it with air and WD40.
  5. And so do I. The beauty of these different opinions is that if we all had the same taste then we would all have identical bikes. How boring would that be ? Each one for his own taste.
  6. Are they WHITE WALLS ?? This bike is screaming I WANT WHITE WALLS !!! One beautiful and tastefully done bike to say the least.
  7. Bob my main man. Am afraid I´m going to have a tough time sneaking away from Iceland for the rally this autumn even though I would hate to miss it. BUT,,,,,,,,,Lets see if I can earn some positive points this summer and get serious Smileys in the "Husband Score Book" Greta keeps in her locked drawer. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
  8. Mike is right. I have seen it - I paid them a visit next week and had a look. It is a very nice bike !
  9. Had the same trouble with mine about three months ago when it quit heating. It would start heating again if I unplugged it for five minutes but finally that stopped working. Ended up calling a service guy and he found out that one of two circuit boards was toast. Installed a new one but no heat. Came again and installed the second one and it started heating. Got a bill for 1.400 $ and decided to pay without a fuzz. Thing is that this tub (Caldera) has been running constantly for 14 years without any problems so it was about time to expect some maintenance. Will most likely have to install a new pump this spring since it is getting a little weaker.
  10. You guys got me on the CHERRY - But Red it is I LIKE RED ! CHERRY, CANDY, BORDEAUX,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  11. Well I am afraid that is not correct Eusa - they actually did offer them in 2001 and I have seen a couple in person. In 2001 they had Cherry Red and Black even though they are not very common. Here is a picture of one I found on the web and there are others. VIN number verifies it to be a 2001. VIN: JYAVP04E61A005024 The tenth letter (number) indicating the year of production. This one is for sale on eBay at the moment. Item number 201734454351 - and there are a quite a few other 2001 Cherry Red/Black for sale on the web. This one is a steal for the price he is asking and he is also welcoming offers. Would most likely buy it if I was looking for another bike. Purdy bike !! http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/Red%20baron%20finished/01_zpsz5vdu8kx.jpg
  12. The Venture had the Red and Black two tone in 2001. Don´t think they made that color scheme another year.
  13. Dear Puc. Good to see that you are up and sneaking around bidding on bikes. Hope to see you next summer if I make it over the canal. Be safe and do as Tippy and the doc tell you !
  14. Pheewww,,,, Gonna find a way to quit chewing the Tramadol now,,,,,,,,,,,
  15. I owe you 10.0 US$ Bob
  16. Wife went to the north side of our country (9 hours away) to our old deserted farm like she always does in the summer and demanded that I would at least come for a visit. Had a big project to do in the garden so I said no and boy - she was not happy. Decided to pay her a surprise visit and that DID pay off. I n a small town close to ourfarm I saw a bunch of old bikes standing beside a garage. Talked to the guy who lives there and he took me to his workshop and there I found a Italian Vespa Piaggio Primavera 125cc from 1968. A total resoration project and I stole it for 500 US$. The BOSS was in such a happy mood since I came visit that she said: Well that was a good price. I think you should try and find a side car for this so we can do some retro riding together in town. Gonna pick her up late September and start the rebuild. Can´t wait. The picture is not of that bike but exactly the same. Mine is a total resto, motor and the whole nine yards. It is in running condition though, that is, the motor turns and allmost all parts are present, no rust but it is neclected. All parts are available for these bikes from Italy or/and Germany It is going to be fun doing this - the only thing that I can not decide is if I should keep the color completely original or if I should make it a two tone. Time will tell but knowing myself, the two tone is kind of higher possibility. There is no money to gain and I am gonna keep it. The restoration will most likely be somewhere around 4.000 US$ that is parts and paint job. The rest I will do myself. Will post a thread when I have her in my garage and start the restoration. http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/Vespa%20Piaggio%20Primavera%201968/Vespa125-Primavera1968_zps9dd3aiv6.jpg
  17. Congrats VanRiver. That is just so cool looking. Love to see pictures when you are done with her. Sure that your girl will enjoy cruising the neighbourhood. - Remember to give her a helmet !!!!
  18. Do you take telephone bids Bob - since I will not be in the US untill late Friday night and meeting you guys at the breakfast ride Saturday morning. I have a sort of an attorney that will be present,,,,,well, not actually an attorney but works inthe justice system.
  19. Yummie !!! Just this makes it worth travelling all the way from work in Norway
  20. That actually sounds pretty good !
  21. She will have started work after the summer holiday and is actually travelling all over Europe this summer while I work my butt off in Norway and in the garden at home when I am there. I am sorry to have to break this to Robin but I am not shipping Kristjan "The Present" around the Globe anymore, just to have him returned every time. It almost made me bankrupt ! He is staying home. If she wants him then I will mail him with "No Return To Sender". I could probably fit him in a big USPS box if I let all the air out and fold him neatly.
  22. Hmmmm,,,,Mine never gets loose and there is no locktite and no silicone. Well,,,I generally take the whole fairing apart once or twice a year to do some additions and then tighten everything up - so that might explain it. The silicone idea is good though. Locktite can be used but then you have to put the tiniest little drop in the nut threads - not on the bolt. But then again I would not risk it.
  23. There is a rally ?? Ben´s still open ? Nahhh,,,had enough of that last year. Shady place. Will check the place across the road. Negotiating with the Boss - who knows - I might show up ! BOB - Have U got the Black Death or should I bring some if I get a leave of absence from the Boss ?
  24. They all follow the Yamaha Vin number sequence for the Royal Star Ventures. No special numbers in the VIN for the MM.
