1. Thanks, Gil. I'll call Will Monday afternoon or he can call me after 2:00pm.
2. We'll be in Austin Monday afternoon for a few hours. Can't wait til evening though. Headed back to Houston by 5:00 pm. I would like to see Will.
3. Hay O'. If you haven't done your shift peg yet, we can swap Squid's ****er from his 99' to your bike at Kreg's Mt Day 3/26/11 and I'll cut off the rear portion of it and get it chromed for you.
4. I forgot to thank Tom and Debby for coordinating this impromptu M&E. Tom & Debby, myself & LilBit, GaryN & Mary, Rick Ashley, Wes (Tom's buddy) and Art (Aharbi) were in attendance.
5. Great Day! Left home at 6:00 am. Rode two hours through miserable rain, then it cleared and off to Blanco we went. sorry we didn't get to see Ray (1JoeRanger) Got home at 8:00 PM. Mary in Rick Ashley's sidehack LilBit in Rick Ashley's sidehack
6. George, there's a slotted screw or nut inside the plug cap when removed will expose a pencil eraser diameter disc. Some have found these discs have broken causing incomplete firing. Also, testing the coil per the manual or V7Goose's writeup shouuld determine if the coil is bad. I recently diagnosed a good coil to be bad even though it passed the written testing procedures. I was wrong. It was the igniter unit. GunBoat bought a used igniter from Pinwall and that fixed it.
7. I've seen this a few times recently. The most recent cure has been to run some 44k through the tank and carbs, let it sit a day or so, then drive it. The pilot valves tend to gunk up after sitting for a relatively short amount of time (weeks). You could pull the pilot valves and clean each one, but the 44K usually does the trick. I had a 750 Shadow that was near impossible to keep the Pilots clean.
8. You definately ain't right!
9. Tom, If you have the rim and tire, I can pick it up from you when we swap the oil drums, mount it and get it back to you the next week or so.
10. Thanks Perry & Mollie. You guys really put on a feed! Perry, correct me if I'm wrong here. Most all of the intake valves were below tolerance or right at the bottom. The exhaust valves were on the high side.
11. Yup, we's cheap entertainment. Them Michigan boys ain't right either.
12. You can take the boy outta the woods, but you can't take the woods outta the boy. You ever heard him talk? Yup, he's a Texican.
13. I like to make things. I won't buy anything I think I can make (even though I probably shouldn't).
14. You guys ain't right. Specially that Texican from Ohio.
15. You'll have to figure out what works best for you. I have LilBit mount the bike first. To me it's easier than trying to balance it while she gets on. Passengers have to learn how to ride too. When we first started, she learned pretty quick not to squirm around at low speeds and to be still at stop signs especially in windy conditions.
16. I drive the same as I would with a M/C tire. I have no problem pushing the limit even pulling a trailer. If I have a good tire (ie: Not a Nexen), and the tire pressure up around 50 psi, the handling is not an issue for me. At lower pressures or on a Nexen, the rear will wallow around, affecting handling. Having said that, low pressures on M/C tires will do the same. I am not 100% in favor of the C/T and will probably change back on my next change. I might save a C/T setup to use on long trips with the trailer. I wanted to try it and figured the tire was cheap enough that if I didn't like it, I could go back right away. So far I enjoy the extra traction when hauling a trailer. I don't like the tracking of imperfections in the road due to Tar Snakes, ridges, cracks, etc. or low speed handling on uneven roads.
17. +1 for MSR bottles. They're available at most outdoor supply stores. REI, Gander Mountain, etc. http://lh4.googleusercontent.com/public/XELvogp2sEWV6bc8m3Cr1iwGKcRDayzvipEQR8AsX6QsXrkjZ-end61MSnmnf0wKneZKxwPu-P-Y57WOUKqi-4naMtuVXh8Zo5RyxepajY1UlAqTQtsmbrSUF1y0ogdk-3Hw42d91M03nvu28dnWmxqUOr1G4LItig-iFqcisbG4MMS0wZsIYI8
18. Who needs gauges with all that bling to look at? Good on ya Ruf! Can't wait to see the finished bike.
19. Mark, The Nexen I had was very thin in the sidewalls and flexed much more than the Kumho. I wouldn't buy another one.
20. They may accept a maintenance log. I track all work done on my vehicles in a log. Not for warranty backup, just my own use. But, that may suffice.
21. Dave (Swifty) I love the banter between G1 & G2 owners, but I can attest that dave (Dave77459) doesn't lug. He's an Iron butter that loves to ride hard. He maintains the RSTD very well and the bike looks and ran like new. ... Dave (Ponch)
22. Glad you got it opened! I read where a VR member locked his Venture keys in the saddlebag. Talk about panic.
