I put mine just above the battery, but mounted so as to NOT interfere with the removal of the battery.

I did not know that Yamaha made Driving lights for the RSV. I have a set of Passing lights, but would prefer a Driving light beam pattern. Regrettably I could not find a seller called Alecks Power Sports Of Erie on eBay. Can you provide a URL to their store on eBay?????

Full set of rain gear and use Ace-it on both sides of the windshield. carry the little 2 oz bottle on the bike for cleaning off bugs. I have a 1/2 helmet so I carry a three snap face shield with my rain gear. I coat both sides of it with Ace-it too

Would you spend $1.88 to save your life?

I found some at a BMW bike dealership that are about 1" diameter, but I wish they had a wedge shaped base like those in the photos in the original post. -

It is all rumors until it comes out on Starmotorcycles.com HOWEVER I do know that the current RSV will go out of production at the end of the 2009 model year, or at least will not be sold in the US and any other country that has adopted the following. The EPA tier II motorcycle emissions standard goes into effect for the 2010 model year and the current RSV will NOT pass......... Now if you look at the motor in the 1st gen Vmax and the 2nd Gen RSV, they are quite similar and share many parts. This helps Yamaha lower the cost per unit by spreading out the R&D cost over more units. SO, with luck, Yamaha will take the 2nd gen Vmax motor and modify it and put it in a 2010 or 2011 model year RSV, I will be VERY happy, and I'll put my 2007 RSV up for sale!!!!!!!! But remember it is all rumors untill the offical press release from Yamaha!!!!!!!!

Kelly blue book, and NADA are two online places where you can check values for bikes. for selling, I would use the higher, as a buyer, I would use the lower of the two. As a buyer, I do NOT pay for accessories the seller has added. As a seller, I list and price all accessories at retail, plus the cost of installation. THEN the two need to come to a price that is acceptable to both for the deal to go. BTW I have a 1950 H-D FL for sale......$18,000.

clutch friction zone
KiteSquid replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Your bike DOES have a warranty, just not in Canada... you have to take it south of the border... The good thing about hydraulic clutch linkages is they are self adjusting, less maintenance. The bad thing about hydraulic clutch linkages is they are self adjusting, you cant control where the friction zone is. The clutch in these bikes takes a little more finesse than some, so do what you tell your students to do and practice learning the friction zone of your unique bike. It will be easy!!!!!! and FUN!!!!! -
Does your cooling fan come on??
KiteSquid replied to dragerman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
electric cooling fans on cars gain about 0.125 MPG, but cost more to build into a car. Like Monsta said, they are on most four wheeled vehicles built today. -
Harbor freight has a digital multimeter with a tachometer, but not dwell.... I need a dwell meter for my 1950 H-D FL, but the RSV does not have points, so no dwell meter is required. Click HERE to go to H-F website. Ask the salesman for ITEM 95670 and it should be about $35, unless you sign up for their e mails and get a 15 or 20% off coupon........... http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/photos/95600-95699/95670.gif

Thanks for the remider!!! I went to a True Value hardware store and had 3 extra keys made. I hid one on the bike.

Windshield and Ventilation
KiteSquid replied to OldBear's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I put a vent from a Honda Goldwing in my windshield. Also, with a windshield, vents on your sleeves do a lot more venting than those on you chest as they are IN the airflow... -
Rear brake/running lights
KiteSquid replied to LtShame's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It looks like the 15 inch Stop/tail/turn LED lamp from a semi trailer that a LOT of us here have installed. HOWEVER IMHO $59.99 +$10.95 shipping is too much to pay for that part. I found mine for $29 plus shipping, but they did not come with the spacers, bolts and nuts....- 8 replies

transmission trouble on 2nd generation
KiteSquid replied to glscruggs's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have not heard of this before on a RSV. the entire bike, except AFAIK the clutch and brake pads are covered. Read the warranty info in the owners manual. Please let us know how long it takes to repair/replace the transmission on you bike. -
Rear Running Lights
KiteSquid replied to Donnie1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Load equalizers (high current resistors) are needed with the factory turn signal and hazard relays. they are mechanical, not digital..... Maybe someone will point out the digital versions.... -
One other thing to check: Make sure that the enrichiners (AKA chokes) on all four carbs are working in unison. If one is staying on, you might be running one cylinder rich.......

Driveshaft. Is there a trick to it
KiteSquid replied to royalstarjac's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
As soon as you purchase the bike, as the factory did not apply the correct lubricant...... And like FuzzyRSTD said, every time you have the rear tire off would be a good time as you are already mosty there..... you might do some preventive maintenance. Use Honda Moly60!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 60% Moly!!!!!!!!!- 16 replies

Driveshaft. Is there a trick to it
KiteSquid replied to royalstarjac's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Who manufactures the Molly 60 from the auto parts store??? Does it say Moly grease or actually say Moly 60 on the tube???? If it is Moly Grease it is probably just 3% Moly.... Post the manufactures name and part number so MAYBE we can find the MSDS on it or find it at the manufacturers web site to see if they sate the percentage of moly in the grease. BTW teh Honda Moly60 can be bought at a Honda or Acura CAR parts counter for under $10 and I have seen it as low as $6.85 for the 3 oz tube. a tube will probably last the life of the motorcycle!!!!!!!! you should be using small amounts. apply with an toothbrush or acid brush with the bristles cut off to about 1/4 inch long. SMALL AMOUNTS of this stuff goes a LONG WAY!!! Don't over lubricate!!!!!- 16 replies

IGN Swith Bypass Toggle
KiteSquid replied to Reaney in NH's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
IF you bypass the headlamp and passing or driving lamps you have installed so they do not come on, which is illegal in most areas so I am NOT recommending it, you can probably use a 10 amp switch if you also bypass or disconnect the carburetor heaters. OR if you use a large enough relay, you can use a small switch that will pass just enough current to power the relay...... say one or two amps. -
Can't get the Drive hub Pins out???
KiteSquid replied to Reaney in NH's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I hope you are using Honda Moly60 grease or as recommended in a email reply from DuPont, Krytox® GPL 214 for motorcycle splines and drive pins. NOTE that GPL 214 is fortified with about 5% Molybdenum Disulphide for high pressure use while Honda Moly60 is 60%!!!!!!!!!!! GPL 214 costs about $32 for a 2 oz tube plus shipping where Honda Moly60 can be picked up at a Honda or Acuara CAR parts counter in a 3 Oz tube. Part# is 08734-0001 and retail is $9.58. but I have seen it as low as $6.85... BTW the part is called a Clutch Hub in the parts manual. Part 9 on page F2 and the Circlip is part 13. BE careful with part 12 the Seal, Hub Dust so you don't damage it. I ALWAYS look at the parts diagram AND read and UNDERSTAND the procedure in the shop manual before attempting any dis-assembly.... then again as I am assembling so I don't have any "left over parts" when I am done..... Also the manuals are FREE in pdf format from this site!!!!!!!!! click on the VRTech link on the left side of any page here at the forum. -
Rear Running Lights
KiteSquid replied to Donnie1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
GREAT IDEA!!!! What bulbs would you put in the lamps? You might think about 2357 or 3496 lamps. Click HERE for a thread on using them. At a higher cost there are also some who install a LED light board in the stock rear turn signal housings that add Stop/Tail/Turn functionally to the stock housing. Custom Dynamics markets them as Dynamic Clusters and are available HERE. Scroll down the page to about half way.... but they cost about $81 for the pair. plus shipping. There might be other manufacturers on the market.... For alternatives: Most of us add a 15" LED lamp from a semi trailer, to just under the trunk. It puts more light, higher, like THIS one from Diamond R. If you don't want the plastic chrome trim, you can find it for a lower price and in different configurations. I installed one with retroreflectivity and if I want it, all 11 LEDs work as running lamps. Some guys have installed two extra lamps from the H-D catalog. It is a chrome piece that mounts behind your licence plate and adds two lamps outboard of the licence plates. Regrettably I don't have the H-D part number handy.
