Here in WI there are over 600 BP gas stations. Not a single one is owned by BP. They are all mom and pop independent owners trying to feed their family's. By boycotting BP stations you are only hurting the station owner. BP will not sell one drop less gas due to you boycotting the BP stations. As Hig4s said, BPs gas will just be at some other station. As was explained to me by someone that works at a gas storage facility. There is a point in the system where all of the brands come together into one giant blend. The additives that differentiate the brands are added at the time the gas is transferred from the storage tank to the delivery truck. That is why boycotting the station will only hurt some local family and BP will not lose one penny in sales. You are still buying the same amount of gas and it could very well be BPs gas at that other branded station. I always watch the gas prices and buy from whomever has the lowest price. I still prefer to go to BP stations because I know they are locally owned and not corporate as many other brands are.

After several hours of digging through the WI vehicle codes and a call to the inspectors that would be inspecting any "homemade" car, the only height requirement in WI is that if you took all of the rubber off of the rims and set the vehicle down on the rims, no part of the vehicle other than the rims would touch the ground. Their reasoning is that if you have a blowout and the tire disintegrates, a dragging chassis part would force a spin. What they do during an inspection is to sight across the bottoms of the rims to look for anything hanging down. So there is no magic number. Last night I found out that a bran new 2010 Honda car with dealer plates, tore the front air dam off on this speed bump. Speed was irrelevant since the air dam would be past the bump before the tires encountered the bump. $500+ in damages. Even though the bump is below the legal maximum height, I think it will be getting lowered now. My venture just scrapes on this speed bump, fortunately there is just enough room to squeeze around the edge of it. My truck could care less about any speed bump that a car can climb over. Thanks for the suggestions, it got me pointed in enough of the right direction to find what I needed.

Helmet itch dilema...make that emergency

I really want to be the fly on the wall while he tries to convince the wife that she needs to shave her head. -
Does anyone know of a document that gives a minimum vehicle ground clearance that the manufacturers must meet. There are some local speed bumps that a lot of people (including me) drag bottom on, they claim that the speed bumps are less than the minimum legal vehicle height, I would like to find out what that dimension is. Preferably a document to reference.

Looks like fun to play with if you have smooth hard floors. I'll wait a couple more years after the street version for the off road version.

Sounds good except for the shrimp cocktail part, I am allergic to seafood. There used to be a restarant locally hear that had a 42oz sirloin challange, I used to go there when I was poor and hungry till they refused to let me do the challenge any more. There is another pizza joint where I am still the only person to finish off their large deep dish pizza. 24" dia x 3" thick with a thin crust. I did not know till after it was done that I was the first, That was 30 years ago and I am still the only one. No way could I do that now. I'd have a heart attack if I were to even think about it. Ahhh..... the good old days.

LED Rocker Switch
Flyinfool replied to tpalshadow's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Are you sure that you are connected to the proper terminals on the switch and that you don't have it switched 180°. From what you described it should work. -
I did a lit windshield many years ago, long before LEDs were readily available. Just having the edge lit I found to be very distracting while riding at night. Yes every scratch including the micro scratches to small to be seen lite up nice and bright at night.

This was in today's paper about a local guy doing custom laser etched and illuminated motorcycle windshields. http://www.jsonline.com/business/94886274.html http://www.illumatek.com/ I don't know if he can or will do a Venture windshield and I would not pay that kind of cash right now but it is still really cool.

I guess that means that you did not hear about the issue in Oshkosh WI then. Where a Vet, Disabled in Kuwait was ordered to take down his American flag or be evicted by the end of the week. I care more about the living than I do about who is decorating a grave.

I was in the cafeteria at work today. I normally go there late so it is quiet and calm with not many people around. On the other side of the room I could overhear a conversation between one of the cafeteria managers and a customer. I was not paying close enough attention till I was snapped to attention by the comment "by the end of this year the oil in the gulf will have flowed up the Mississippi and be contaminating the shores in Wisconsin". Too which I could only think WTF!!! They then morphed the conversation to the FACT that rivers can only flow south. It is "impossible" for water to naturally flow North. On my way out the door after I finished my lunch I mentioned to the manager that water will always flow down hill regardless of which direction that is. Water does not know how to read a compass. At that same time as I mentioned this there was another customer that walked in and got all over me, because it is a FACT that water can only flow from north to south. At which point I had to RUN FOR MY LIFE. I did not post this in Jokes and Humor cuz it really did just happen!! I thought that I had a pretty good handle on this gravity thing and how it relates to water. Or am I all wet and therefore doomed to be headed south. I'm scared now. Hiding in my office with all of the lights off. OK flame suit on,,,,,,,,,or should I be wearing a wet suit.

But the second one is the one that you really should find a way to rectify. -

clutch friction point?
Flyinfool replied to 6m459's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No, As the clutch wears the system will suck in more fluid to make up the difference. It is just like the brakes in your car the pedal does not get lower as the brakes wear. No, A weak spring will cause the clutch to slip at high throttle settings. It is a very easy job that can be done in less than 30 minutes. After the fluid change I think it is just what it is. I do not know of any adjustment for the lever position. (But I could be wrong) Hope this helps -

Yes we will need a full report WITH VIDEO. Sounds like fun. I have never hit red line with my 88 yet. It always scares me before I get that far and my buddies hardly is always well behind me before then anyways. I would not want to end up running against the Harley that is in the parking lot where I work, he has over $10K into just the engine and runs in the low 8's.- 44 replies

For the CL ad that I currently have when I get an email that I believe may be a scam I set up a free gmail account with a fake name to send the reply. That way if by chance they are legit I have not lost them and if they are not legit they have nothing to use to scam or harass me. When the ad is done I just never look at the gmail account again.

According to the QC department here at work, My HF 3/8 drive is more accurate than my very expensive Snap On 1/2 inch drive. As was mentioned above, the hf was within 2 lb/ft across the range and the Snap on was within 5 lbs across the range. With both set to the same value the HF beat the snap on.

Clutch upgrade...no so upgraded
Flyinfool replied to Royal Venturer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have been told that it is possible to install the new spring and not have it seated correctly in its groove. This would also cause slipping. My Clutch spring upgrade also does not start to engage till the last 1/4 inch before the clutch is all of the way out. I called PCW and was told that this is fairly common. I have not yet figured out how to get it back to a "normal" feel, PCW also has not figured out why it does this on some bikes and not others. But It will not slip at any throttle setting in any gear. It just has a very narrow friction zone. Since the gaskets are so cheap I have elected to keep a spare set of the clutch gasket and the 2 side cover gaskets for the left side on hand just so I do not have to wait around when I need one next. -
Hmmmm......... First off, glad there was no damage to you or the bike. Second, sounds like a $5 donation coming up. Third, The clutch fluid is a sealed system, it should not have leaked out while the bike was down. Fourth, It is possible that while the bike was down some oil got up into the breather that is connected to the intakes, and then got sucked into the carbs after you started it back up. Oil in the carbs can also happen if the oil is overfilled. With the bike upright (not on the side stand) on level ground the oil level should be no higher than the center of the sight glass on the right side of the engine.

Not a new clutch, just a new clutch spring. Big $$$ difference.
