  1. Be careful changing bolts to stainless. for non critical cosmetic stuff SS is fine, but stainless steel hardware does not have nearly as much strength as steel hardware. For instance grade 8.8 steel screws have a tensile strength of 116,000psi with a minimum hardness of Rockwell C22 and is the metric equivalent of the SAE Grade 5. This is the cheap metric cap screws here. Stainless steel metric cap screws are rated for a tensile strength of 101,000psi and are not rated for hardness.
  2. Her is the fixed link, yours had some extra spaces added in there. [ame=http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360312860314&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT]eBay Item # 360312860314[/ame] They look interesting, and I just started building my trailer.
  3. OK, I have found a nice place for the M&E. It will be at the Final Approach, 4959 South Howell Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53207 (414) 744-7060. Easy freeway access. If you look for it on Google Earth, yes that is an airplane mounted on the roof. Saturday around lunch will be a great time. Now we just need to decide which Saturday would be good for the most of us. I was shooting for some time in March. The 19th might be bad for me, I might have to go to Texas that weekend.
  4. I'm 6'1" and 245, my doc says to not change a thing, I am the healthiest person he ever met. I have not had so much as a cold in over 30 years, and all of my tests are always perfect. My doc says that the BMI indexes are BS, it would have a country full of anorexics running around. The "charts" say I should be 185, Doc says If I get anywhere near that he will then be worried about me. His test for obesity, If you can do 30 sit-ups and 30 push-ups, your fine as is.
  5. Look at it this way, maybe you used up all of your bad luck and only have the good luck left for the lotto tickets.
  6. Yes there is an indicator, The engine dies when you put it in gear.....
  7. A rod or wrist pin seizing was my thought also. Maintenance and oil selection could contribute to that scenario. As you mentioned, at tear down it will be easy to tell. If the rod is broke and the bearings at both ends are good then it is simply a bad rod or crank.
  8. Yes I do see here.
  9. I am into anything that can be flown via radio control. My smallest plane has a 0.010 cubic inch (0.16 cc) engine, largest has a 250cc (15.26 ci) engine, or a jet turbine. Cool do I win now??????? I'm not good at waiting......
  10. One down, several thousand to go..........
  11. How about have every one interested post to the new thread ONCE ONLY PER PERSON, then use a random number generator to pick the number of the post that wins. Or just use post #8 from this thread, 8 is a nice round number.
  12.
  13. Yup I made it a point to go out to the shed and look at the bike, then looked at the green puddle under it, and then looked at the snowbanks, cried and went back in the house.
  14. The weather man is just teasing you. It was 53F here yesterday as a teaser but it will snow on Monday to snap us back to reality. As soon as I am done with the snow storm I will be sure to send it up your way.
  15. Actually BBs are steel balls with a copper plating to help resist rust in the package. It will not take long to wear the copper off and then the BBs will rust till all of the free oxygen in the tire has been converted into rust. If you know anyone that does shotgun reloading you may be able to score some steel shot in various sizes. At slow parking lot speeds you will also be bead blasting the inside of your rim and removing its finish to allow for more corrosion.
  16. It sure does look a lot safer now than the before pic.
  17. Well I will make it a point to go out and at least look at the bike tonight. We are likely to break the high temp record of 55° today.
  18. Doesn't "but it's a surprise. So I guess you're gonna have to wait a little while." translate into "Oops I forgot. So I guess you're gonna have to wait a little while."? Congrats, 28 years is a long time.
  19. Hmmmm... never worried about the bars while mounting my passenger........... Like anything else about riding it takes practice. It is worth the effort to just practice with her till it finally clicks and becomes a non issue. I lean the bike a little to the right so that there is very little weight on my left foot, the passenger then climbs on as SilvrT described, as the passenger is getting on I bring the bike to center balance. Once you learn how to do this you can load a 300lb passenger with no balance issues. (there will be other issues with a 300lb passenger:whistling:) I never realized that I even did this till someone behind us mentioned that I had the bike leaning way to the right and the passengers weight is what brought the bike to center.
  20. Looks reasonable. GF and I are going for dinner at a place to check out that is right by Mitchel Field, I have read nothing but good about them. I'll keep you all posted. Andrew, Ya know there are easier ways to get a mirror off than by scraping them off....
  21. Can you not check the ignition timing buy using the timing marks on the flywheel. I thought that there was a timing mark for each cylinder at TDC used for valve clearance adjustment. This is shown on page 2-5 of the service manual. By using a timing light you could verify that each cylinder is firing at the correct time and doing so would verify that everything is plugged in correctly. I'm just thinking out loud here, not sure if this is a viable idea or not.
  22. Be careful though.......There are monsters in that pond.....
  23. I did finally RSVP as a strong maybe. I am really hoping to make it this year.
  24. So, just how long is the box when folded? If it is the length of the bed then it must be close to a 7 foot box? Cool.
  25. That is pretty much the yeller I want, with all black or red trim, and NO CHROME anywhere.
