  1. http://www.onlineathens.com/stories/112108/new_358273311.shtml Check out the combination flashlight-video camera. Good to know!-Jack
  2. Maybe this is a dumb question but what is your volume set on?-Jack
  3. I've been a dues paying Union member for 25 yrs. I've walked the picket line on 2 seperate strikes. However at some point Union membership has to ask themselves if they are being realistic in their demands. What good does it do the membership to break the company with demands that are out of line with current realities. A bailout would just allow everyone to continue business as usual. Not a good option IMO.-Jack
  4. H-D's problems are not the result of gov intervention. 10 yrs ago there was a 6mo-1yr wait to get a new H-D. They ramped up production to meet that demand. When the demand waned, they started offering easy financing. No money down, bad credit no problem. When the economy slowed, people were upside down on their bikes and there was a glut on the market so they couldn't unload them. When you have to choose between making your house note and paying on the bike, it's a no brainer. As a result H-D credit is awash in repoed bikes. H-D got gov loans and tarrif protections in the 80's under the Reagan admin. They turned the company around. I believe they are still a solid company. Much of their revenue today comes from licensed gear and foriegn sales. They just bought Italian bike maker Aprilla to increase their foriegn presence.-Jack

  6. When I did mine, the flanders bars, ss brake and clutch lines and new throttle cables came to around $500 from Buckeye Performance. They will give you a dscount for being a member here. To me it was worth every penny since I can now ride ALL DAY without discomfort.-Jack
  7. Sorry to hear about your mishap. Thank God you and the wife weren't seriously hurt! Hope you both heal up fast.-Jack
  8. The writing has been on the wall since the '70s. The companies and the Union failed to heed the message. Any bailout would just be more down the tube.-Jack
  9. I got a Showchrome windshield 4" shorter and 3" wider than stock. I also usually carry a clear face shield to put on the helmet in the rain. Without the shield water gets behind my glasses making it hard to see, not to mention the sting of rain hitting me in the face at 60 mph.-Jack
  10. If you can get to the clamp that holds the air filter assy on with a long phillips head screwdriver, you don't have to remove the fairing. You may have to remove it the first time and then turn the clamp so you can reach it when you reassemble it.
  11. Be carefull on that rhino. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,447825,00.html
  12. Yes I would confront them. STAR has strict rules of conduct for Chapter rides. One rule is that all laws including speed limits will be strictly obeyed. Assuming this was an official chapter ride and not just some members out riding. There is a difference. If you don't get the answers you like you can contact the national leadership by email or phone. It will be dealt with.-Jack
  13. Sorry to hear about your mishap. I hope your wife heals quickly! Live and learn. I learn something every time I get on a bike. That's one of the great things about riding it's a never ending learning process.-Jack
  14. I'm a RC with our STAR chapter. Without being there it's hard to make an absolute statement. A stop sign on an entrance ramp can be a dicey situation. Maybe the guy on the Valk had someone climbing his rear end and he didn't feel safe stopping. I don't know, I wasn't there. Could be the guy was caught off guard and passed you instead of running into you or maybe the guy is a careless jerk. Depending on the size of the group the Tail Gunner should have seen what happened, the RC should have been leading and probably didn't catch it. You don't mention if the Valk rider was a STAR member or a guest like yourself. He could be new to group riding himself. Either way, if I was you and I ended up riding with these folks again I would bring it up at the pre ride meeting and make sure it gets straightened out. If the issue wasn't settled to my satisfaction I would find some other folks to ride with. JMO.-Jack
  15. Don't want to rain on anyones parade but my calender says the first day of winter is not until 12/21. Just sayin-Jack:whistling:
  16. Do you use the mic-mutes? They change the mikes from being always on to PTT. It eliminates wind, engine, ambient noise in the headsets. I don't know if they would deal with your static problem though. You might check your plug wires to make sure they're seated completely on the plugs.-Jack
  17. Glad you weren't hurt! I will NEVER run a D404 again. They're not stout enough for the RSV. Last one I had was showing cord after 2k mi. It went from looking ok to showing cord all the way around in less than 200 mi. The Avons are a good choice.-Jack
  18. Thanks!
  19. Here in the N Ga mtns I ride all yr round though we do still get the occaisional light snow or ice so there is no 100% guaranty. I'd say Atlanta would be a safe bet though still not 100%. As far as wrapping the bike you could use one of those big heavy duty rolls of clear plastic they use for shipping things. Wrap it tight and it won't flap around and it'll keep everything out.-Jack ps We have quite a few members in the Altanta area. I'm sure someone would be willing to let you park your truck/trailer at their place.
  20. The way things are looking in the US we can expect many of the same Nanny state provisions here in the next 4 yrs! Just remember, it's for your own good, weather you know it or not!-Jack

  24. As a rider I feel it's my responsability to know how much air I have in my tires at any given time. I have picked up new bikes and bikes I've just had tires put on and found the pressure to be low. A good tech or dealer SHOULD have them right but it's MY life on the line, therefore MY responsability.-Jack
  25. Here's another, the possum likes it!.-Jack http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b152/bigjack1/Dragon101908/img_5682.jpg
