I too pull a Bushtec and agree with the others here. Cruising at 80 mph is comfortable and I've gone faster. I really don't alter me speed because of the trailer but I do alter my following distances. The trailer significantly changes the stopping distance.

Since I'm getting ready to ride to Montana in a couple of weeks I thought I needed a cheap video camera to mount on the handlebars. I tried my compact camera and didn't like that so I shopped around for a FLIP type camera. I bought an inexpensive Kodak Playsport camera for about $80. It turns out it is no better on the handlebars. Too much vibration in the bars to make a good video. So I'll probably abandon that idea and just let Valerie shoot over my shoulder as we go across Beartooth and Going to the Sun. However, I had some fun with the camera tonight anyway. The Playsport is water proof to 3 meters. And, since our dog is crazy about the water I thought I would see what I could shoot. Here is a link to a simple video I put together of the dog in the water tonight. www.traynorphoto.com/timbersplash.wmv It's worth 80 bucks just to play with around the pool. Enjoy. Dennis

Glad to see that Cub Cadet was spared. They don't make them like that anymore.

If your mic is on a flixible arm pull the wind sock off and make sure that the mic is pointed toward you. I've seen them get turned where the mic is pointin forward. Makes it real hard to hear then. Dennis

I have a small carrier that connects to the hitch on my bike that I use to carry a small ice chest from time to time. It works but I wouldn't want to put more than about 20 lbs on it because you can feel it. The weight hanging that far back acts as if it is on a lever trying to lift the front of the bike. If I were packing for a long trip on it I would certainly carry more weight than that. With the trailer you can balance your load to maintain a reasonable tounge weight which I try to keep under 25 lbs. Dennis

It's a well known fact that dirty clothes take up more space than clean ones. At least when I travel. Dennis

I've done both and I prefer the trailer. The bike seems to handle better without all of the weight up high. Also, I feel it is much more convenient to get things out of the trailer as opposed to unpacking the bike anytime I need something. I also worry about carrying significant weight on the trunk rack. The trailer does increase stopping distances and reduces acceleration slightly. But so does the extra weight packed on the bike. The way my wife likes to pack and shop we have to take the trailer on weekend trips. Either that or I have to pay a lot of postage shipping things home. Dennis

I just tried it and it works for me. Dennis

I guess I should have posted that we would be in the area. We rode down to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure for the weekend. Great roads everywhere we went.

Just rode the Whip yesterday. Great ride and I think more challenging than the Dragon. Here is a link to the video that I shot on the way back down. http://Www.traynorphoto.com/rt80nc.wmv

Arkansas to Utah trip completed - Lessons learned
Midrsv replied to archeryguy's topic in Watering Hole
I agree with your advice. We made a very similar trip from central KY in 2008 and I agree, 7 days isn't enough to see southern Utah. We made the trip in about 12 days and even that wasn't enough. Everyone that tours by bike needs to have southern Utah on their bucket list. Here's a link to a few of our photos. http://www.traynorphoto.com/utah/ Dennis -
I carry a Canon HS230 in addition to my SLR on trips. The HS230 has great low light capabilities and has a very long, 14X optical zoom with image stabilization. Shoots great 1080P HD video. I find that I use my SLR less and less. Steve. You're right. Sorry, I read right over that thinking that this late in the year that it would be 2013's. Dennis

Just received my latest edition of Road Runner and it had a review of the 2013 Star line. The only change I picked up on was the possible deletion of the standard cb/radio/intercom. The article mentioned that the bike comes pre wired for those items. However, the photos clearly showed both antennas present. Dennis

Congratulations on the new Wing. You're going to enjoy it. I still miss somethings on the Venture but overall I'm sold on the GW after 26,000 miles in 14 months. Dennis

I must admit I do enjoy the curves. Just not the ones like the Dragon. For me, the dragon is just too many to tight turns that you have to nealy stop on. I prefer curves that you can maintain at least 35 to 40 miles per hour on safely. I like the high speed sweepers that you can look through instead of the blind twisty. I'm looking forward to Chief Joseph Highway, Beartooth Pass and Going to the Sun later this summer. Dennis

It sounds to me that they have absolutely no claim on your bike. Yours free and clear. Did you sign any type of rental agreement on the loaner stating that you would carry insurance or assign yours to them. If not, I think they should take care of their own bike. If they failed to carry insurance that is there problem and not yours. The dealer should have known better. I guess you could be a nice guy and cover the deductible but based on your description of their service I doubt I would. Dennis

I use plexus to clean my windshield and face shield on my full face helmet. That and a good rain suit and I have ridden many miles in the rain. Just as you've already considered, slow down, increase your stopping distance, take turns slower. But, try to keep enough speed up on the straight roads to let the wind sheet the rain off of your windshield and visor. Also, when I keep my speed up I get very little direct rain on myself. The fairing and windshield deflect most of it. Dennis

this ?? is for the ladies (helmet hair)
Midrsv replied to midnightrider1300's topic in Watering Hole
Wife's hair, now that is why I only get to use half of my trunk. The other half contains various brushes, mirrors, butane curling iron, spray bottles, hair spray, etc. And it takes us 10 minutes to get into the DQ or restaurant when we get off the bike. But her hair looks good. Dennis -
