    M/C Lift

This thread got me to thinking about replacing the pump on my lift. I called Harbor Freight and a replacement pump minus the air motor was $148. I won't be replacing it. Dennis

    M/C Lift

Lynn, you will have to lift the bike much higher than what a center stand would allow. With my Goldwing on the center stand I still can't drop the rear wheel out without lifting it higher. I don't use the lift to change my rear tire on the GW. At a minimum I would go with a lift like this one: http://www.derekweaver.com/bikers-garage/motorcycle-lifts/tx-1000/ which when the trap door is removed it is clear behind it. Check out the owners guide on that page. If I buy another lift it will be this one (or one like it): http://www.derekweaver.com/bikers-garage/motorcycle-lifts/pro-cycle-droptail/ It drops the rear completely out of the way so you could get by with leaving the bike on the center stand or small jack. Had I bought one of these to start with I would have long forgotten about the extra $300 I would have spent and it would have saved me a fair amount of time on tire changes. Dennis

    M/C Lift

Below is a post I made in another thread about HF lifts. Don, I have the HF air/hydraulic lift and if I were buying again I would not buy a HF unit. The lift is sturdy enough but it is not possible to remove the rear tire without jacking the rear of bike extremely high, nearly to the point of being unsafe. Due to the long wheelbase of the RSV the tire will not drop directly down through the trap door. Once you remove the door panel there is a bar across the back that prevents the tire from dropping. So you have to raise the rear of the bike so the tire can roll forward to drop through the opening. Since I change about 3 sets of tires a year (mine and friends) I really whish I had spent more and bought a lift with a true drop tail. Something like this http://www.derekweaver.com/motorcycle-lifts/?sort=priceasc After having used my lift for a few years I regret being so cheap and not spending the extra $300 to$400 to get a better lift. The HF lift is fine if you don't plan on servicing the rear wheel. Dennis

    M/C Lift

I've got the HF air/hydraulic version of the lift and I wish that I had spent a little more money and bought a higher quality lift with a drop tail. Mine is about 5 years old and it won't lift itself empty now. I've checked the fluid level and it's fine. I like quality tools and I am sorry I bought this lift for more reasons than this. Dennis
  5. Joe, I may be going back to Florida in a couple of weeks. If so, I may be able to help. Won't know for a week or so. Dennis
  6. Duey, best of luck with the knee. Had one replaced about 13 months ago with great success. Do the therapy and follow all orders and things should go well. Dennis
  7. Cowpuc you are truly blessed! Good read. Dennis
  8. I'm sad to say we lost my father-in-law this week. He was a neat man. One of the "Greatest Generation". He was about a month shy of his 90th birthday. He lied about his age and joined the Army at 17 and went on to land at Normandy on D-day. After the Army he went on to college and become a mechanical engineer, Raised two daughters and completed a career at IBM. A great man! Dennis
  9. Lots of places to ride on your way to Somerset and around there. if you are coming down or near the I75 corridor you'll pass through Lexington. A day cruising around the horse country is worthwhile and if you do, let me know and I'll show you around. Once in Somerset you should ride over to Cumberland Falls. There are other places to see. Let me think about it a bit and I'll get back to you. Dennis
  10. Bob, congratulations! Here is a tip for your hotel stay, let them know you are celebrating your anniversary. My wife and I went to Hawaii for our 25th and when I booked our hotels I let them know we were celebrating. At every hotel we were given and upgraded room at no additional cost or some type of gift such as a bottle of champagne or box of chocolates. We were treated like royalty. We've been back several times and if you plan to spend any time on Maui you should see the Warren and Annabelle show in Lahaina. Dennis
  11. Eck, I've been on those roads and there is no bad choice. Like others have said it would be a shame to be in the area and miss Beartooth Pass and Chief Joseph Highway. If you plan to stop overnight in Cooke City you better have reservations. I believe there are only two maybe three places to stay there. You'll still see snow along the road in late July. I wouldn't plan on a trip over Beartooth before late mid to late June due to the weather. I know you've got an electric jacket and you may need it in the higher elevations. Highway 12 over Lolo Pass is a great ride. I've got some photos posted from our trip to the west coast and the ones from Lolo Pass start at: http://www.traynorphoto.com/WC2011/index_9.html We were across Chief Joseph Highway and Beartooth Pass in 2012. Photos from that leg of our trip starts here: http://traynorphoto.com/glacier_2012/index_10.html Dennis
  12. I use Tapatalk from my Ipad and Iphone and it works fine. The formatting may be better for the smaller screens.
  13. Thanks, but I just arranged storage at a location in Lake Placid. This next trip down is going to be a pain until I get everything repositioned but the return and subsequent trips should be easier. I spent today changing oil and replacing my rear tire. Also had to check out the bike trailer to make sure it was road ready. Dennis
  14. I think I have a plan where I'll be able to bring the bike with me in January. I'm going to pick my camper up in Ocala and leave the bike and trailer in the storage spot overnight. The next day I'm taking the camper south to Ruskin and then I'll go back to Ocala and pick the bike and trailer up and move them to my cousins garage near Bradenton. That's a lot of driving that day. I think I'm going to move my storage location from Ocala to near Lake Placid. So a few days later after I get the camper settled at the beach I'll go move the bike and trailer from Bradenton to Lake Placid where I'll leave the trailer and the ride the bike on to the beach. Whew! I'm tired already. So I may be able to hook up with some of you for a ride sometime in January. Dennis

    Any trips?

Sad to say I didn't get a single overnight trip in this year. Next year will be better and we're already planning a trip to Taos, NM. We had planned that trip this year and had to postpone it until next year. Dennis
  16. Thanks Steve and Tom for the offers. We may work something out in the future. When I initially chose a storage location I wanted a place inland and somewhat protected from storms and close to I75. At that time I wanted the option to go any direction in the state assuming that we would be in different locations. Now that we've bought the lot I may try to find a place inland that is a little closer to Jensen Beach. Ocala is about 4 hours from Jensen Beach and for me that is too far to make return trips considering I would have to do it twice. I've got a good bike trailer so towing it down is not a problem. I had hoped that I could get my wife to pull the travel trailer from the storage location on down while I followed on the bike. She's not comfortable with that. And after towing it up the FL turnpike with strong winds I understand her fear. It is a handful. I hope to find a storage location within a couple of hours from Jensen Beach. Then I could just park the bike and trailer while I take the TT to the lot and return to pickup the bike. While visiting there in November I ran across a member riding a midnight Venture that lived in Port St. Lucie. His name was Capt'D. There is also a Tour Deluxe rider in our park, Holiday Out, his name is Glenn. He told me there is a group in the area that rides every Saturday and maybe one afternoon each week. I doubt that I can get the bike down on the next trip but I hope to in the future. Dennis
  17. I haven't been too active on the board this year. We've been dealing with some health issues that are behind us now. Anyway, Valerie and I bought a travel trailer earlier in the year with intention of leaving it in Florida for use when we go down in the fall and maybe winter. So in late October I drug the thing down I75 at 9 mpg. Our plans were to store it permanently in Ocala and use it around the state as needed. Our first trip was to Jensen Beach on the east coast south of Ft Pierce and we planned to go to Ft Myers for January. But plans changed. We enjoyed the Jensen Beach location so much we bought a lot in the park while there. Now I've got to figure how to tow the bike and trailer from Ocala to Jensen Beach so I can have it while there. Here are a few pictures from our trip in November. http://www.traynorphoto.com/florida2013 I'll try to be more active in the future. Dennis
  18. I've been thinking about this camera as an alternative to the GoPro: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=117&cp_id=11704&cs_id=1170401&p_id=10629&seq=1&format=2 I like the idea that it can connect to my phone via wifi to review video and it comes with several mount options. I've bought other Monoprice products and have found the quality to be fine. Dennis
  19. From browsing various Apple forum sites it appears that there are more bugs than just mine. Do your research before upgrading. Dennis
  20. I upgraded and discovered that a critical application that I use won't run now. It is Adobe OnLocation to capture video. Apple was no help and now I'm scrambling to find a functional replacement. I've found one but its going to cost me $99 and a bunch if time to learn it. Make sure your applications support Mavericks. I'm not happy with Apple. They're just like Microsoft now. Dennis
  21. My wife and I started seriously touring by bike in 2006. Prior to that we had flown to Arizona and rented bikes with 2 other couples for a 5 day ride to the Grand Canyon. The next year we rode about 4500 miles from Ky to CO, WY, SD and back and only rode about 20 miles of interstates. Since then we have ridden to all states west of the Mississippi except LA. There are so many must see places that I think it would be hard to hit them all in a single trip. Have you thought of breaking this into 3 or 4 smaller trips. In my opinion you must see: Southern Utah Parks and Monument Valley, Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks while including Beartooth Pass and Chief Joseph Highway, Colorado mountains and Rocky Mountain National Park, Durango and the Million Dollar Highway, The Badlands area of South Dakota along with Mt. Rushmore, Sturgis, Custer State Park, Oregon and N California coasts, Yosemite National Park, Santa Fe and Taos NM. Since 2005 I've been to all of those locations, some more than once and it took us 7 trips to get them all in. Had I taken a month long ride at one time I may have reduced that to 6 years. This country just has too much to see. We don't just roam around. I know some like to wander. But we set an agenda that is thoroughly researched with time to see what we want. Some of the areas you will have to have reservations. You also have to consider the seasons. Like Beartooth and Going to the Sun Highways, they may not open until late June. We try to take a "big ride" each year but we were not able to this year because my wife just completed treatment for breast cancer. So we'll pick up our big rides again next summer. So I know first hand that conditions can change. So if this is a bucket list trip, don't put it off too long. If you're interested in photos of the areas that I mentioned above, feel free to browse my web site at: http://www.traynorphoto.com/3.html Dennis
  22. I think I had seen this Red Skelton clip before but ran across it again today. It's worth watching again. They should play this on the evening new every month or so as a reminder to everyone. [ame] [/ame] Dennis
  23. Don't feel any rotational torque on my Goldwing. Dennis
  24. Yamaha needs to get busy. http://m.powersports.honda.com/model/street/touring/ctx1300/2014
  25. Kevin, I'm not at home so I don't have access to all of my photos. I have a some galleries on my web site that will have a few photos of the trailer. Just browse through the indexes and you should find a few. http://www.traynorphoto.com/WC2011 http://www.traynorphoto.com/glacier_2012 Let me know if you have any other questions. Dennis
