  1. Hey Venturous, Please stop by Jim's and tell them I gave them a compliment on this site. I told Brent, the service manager, I was going to post on this site what a class act they are. I also told him I was going to write a letter to Honda letting them know they have a classy dealership representing them. I was going to contact you while we were there but we stayed so busy I didn't get to. Johnson City and Jonesborough are two great places with a lot to see. We really enjoyed our visit.
  2. My wife and I rode from Georgia to Johnson City, Tennessee this past weekend. I had a lot of vibration in the front end so when we got to the motel I noticed that I had lost the weight that balanced the front tire. Saturday morning I noticed a Honda, Suzuki dealer so I stopped in and asked the lady at the service desk if they could balance my front tire. She was very nice and told me to go out to the service department and speak with the manager and tell him I was traveling from Georgia he would probably help. The service manager was Brent Mitchel and he said he could put the weight on where the old one came off and I could then ride down the street to see if the tire was balanced and if not he would remove the tire and rebalance it. He said for me to wait in the showroom and he would come get me when he was finished. He came back and told me to ride down the road and see if the tire was balanced. I aske him how much I owed and he said nothing. I tired to pay something for the trouble but he refused. I didn't go back because the tire was better. It would be a better world if every business had people the care like this one does.
  3. If you're going to be riding in your car where there are a lot of twisties, why not put a motorcycle tire on your car.
  4. My wife and make a trip every october to Franklin, Cherokee, Maggie Valley and surrounding area. The weather can be cool in the morning but we have always had perfect weather. The best weather was the last weekend in october one year. It was 73 degrees and the leaves were at their peak. It was beautiful. I wouldn't worry about the weather much. Of course, anything can happen.
  5. Yea, Phillip won the american idol contest. He is from my hometown, Leesburg, GA. We now have three hometown boys to salute. Buster Posey, San Franciso Giants, Luke Bryan, country music artist and now Phillip Phillips. We were going through some old videos and found one where Luke Byan spent the night at our house with our son when they were about 9 years old. Luke was kind of dorky when he was a kid. You never know what they will be like when the grow up.
  6. I've been getting the same email for the past two days. I don't open, just delete it.
  7. Glad you nephew is ok. That is the most important. The guys that ride croctch rockets complain about the high insurance rates but this is why. They are so easy to total. I can't remember the last time I had a customer with a claim on a cruiser or touring bike, but I had four crotch rockets that were totaled last year. They also get stolen a lot. A dealer in Columbus, GA told me there had been 8 crotch rockets stolen there in the last few months.
  8. Hey BobbyG; I just got off the phone will Allstate getting a quote on my bike. I carry 100/300/50 liablity, same uninsured motorist with the added on option, $10,000 med pay, $3,500 accessories coverage, roadside assistance and $250. deductible comprehensive and collison. Their rate $847 per year. I pay $310 per year with foremost. Allstate only gives you $1,000 in accessory coverage and they don't have a discount for being a member of venturerider.org. They have a discount for Victory owners but not yamaha or venture riders. You might want to check with your agent and make sure what he told you is correct. Of course the best way to check if he or she is correct is to read your policy.
  9. Good to hear. I don't know why anyone would insure their bike with Progressive but it's amazing how many do. Progressive is one of the six companies I represent but I can't tell you the last time Progressive was competetive. I have moved most of the customers I had with progressive to other companies.
  10. I called yamaha roadside on a sunday. The nearest dealer was closed on monday so they said they couldn't help me.
  11. I am an insurance agent in Georgia and I specialize in motorcyle insurance. I get a lot of my business from motorcycle dealers. A dealer in North Georgia starting referring business to me one day so I visited the dealer to thank them. The sales manager said no, thank you. You have saved us a lot of sales because you always get the customer the best rate available. I represent 6 companies that I have dealt with for years that have the best rates and service available. One thing I have learned is that just because a companie says they have discounts, doesnt' mean they have the best rate. That is a gimmick companies use. The only thing that matters is the bottom line rate. I have seen Allstate ads they say the have coverage for as low as $100 per year. This is for liability only. I have companies that will write liability only for as low as $45 per year. My experience shows that Allstate isn't very competetive. I recently replaced an Allstate policy and the customer wanted me to make sure I was quoting an annual rate and not six months. When I asked him why, he said my annual rate was lower than Allstate's six month rate. I recently received a flyer in the mail touting their low motorcycle rates. I called and their rate was almost $900 per year and the rep said how's that. I said not too good as I am paying $300 per year for the same coverage. I have seen companies advertise they have discounts up to 40% but their rates even after the discount are more than some companies that don't offer 40% discount. You just need to check around. No one company is always the best. For example, if you have a trike I have a company that beats everyone. If you have a can am spyder there is another company that beats everyone. If you have a hayabusa I have a company that will be every company out there. You never can say a company is the best.
  12. My wife and I are taking a long weekend memorial day and are looking at the Johnson City area. Any suggestions about places to ride and see there?
  13. What is the advantage to changing to the 17.5 pilots?
  14. My gas mileage has dropped and my bike isn't running smooth. The carbs have been synchronized so thats not the problem. I used to go 165 to 170 miles on a tank before switching to reserve but now am only going about 130 to 135 miles. When the weather was cold and I started the bike the left pipe purred fine. The right pipe would skip every now and then. The bike doesn't seem to have the power it had before and I am getting some vibration that I didn't have before. Any thoughts? I have an 05 RSV. BTW I have used seafoam and it didn't change anything. At the last service, 52,000 miles, the plugs where changed. Now have 56,000 miles.
  15. For those who have the 17.5 pilots, is your gas mileage the same?
  16. Hey variousgsc, You may not have the transmission whine. It could be the rear diff. I would get a dealer to look at it. If no satisfaction with the dealer, I would call yamaha. They know this is a problem but you may have to be persistent with them.
  17. hey 09rstd, I agree with you about buying used from a dealer but my friend is looking for an 08 or 09 venture within 250 miles radius. There aren't many available. He found the 08 at a dealer.
  18. I read the previous post about this but have a question. A friend of mine is looking at an 08 RSV at a dealership. The original owner traded in the bike so my friend will be the second owner. Does this matter as long as there is warranty left.
  19. The rates for Progressive's motorcycle insurance are the same. There is no special discount for USAA, however everyone I talk to that has progressive through USAA thinks they do. Can't speak for other states but in Georgia progressives cycle rates are double and triple other companies. I guess if you advertise enough people will buy without checking other companies. When people that have progressive contact me for a rate they can't believe how high their rates are. Progressive's rate for my bike is: 100/300/50 liability, same uninsured motorists, $10,000 med pay, $250 deductible comp and coll and roadside $1,900 per year. I wrote my coverage with Foremost for $385 per year.
  20. Yep, the woodchuck, another stupid insurance commercial.
  21. I'm glad to hear other people feel the same way I do about insurance commercials. I am an insurance agent and don't know why companies think you have to have stupid commercials. The GEICO taste test is the dumbest. What jackass would think that is clever. If I had my insurance with GEICO I would cancel it immediately. I think the commericals have done more harm to the public than anything. No one today knows if they have the proper coverage. TV is bombarded with commercials where everyone saves $500 on their insurance. I wondered how they go away with this, then it hit me one day. They say the customer that switched saved $500. I wonder how many didn't switch. I get mailers every week stating I can save $500. When I call their rates are always double what I am paying. Last week I got a letter that said since I was a member of the American Diabetes Association I qualified for a special discount with Met Life and could save hundreds on my car insurance. I called and they quoted me a rate of $1,675 per year and asked, how does that sound. I said not too good since I am currently paying $700 per year. The guy said, wow you have a good rate in Georgia. One other commercial that I think crosses the line is progressive's name your price. You can't name your price. I think I will call them and say I want to pay $10 per month and see what they say.
  22. As someone previously said, its all specualtion but I had an interesting coversation with a yamaha dealer last week. He said two yamaha engineers had visited his dealership twice in the last few months and asked him his opinon about yamaha bikes. He said he has never had an engineer visit. He said the dealers contastanly complain about the venture not at least having efi and no cassette. He said he told the engineer that today you can even buy a weedeater with efi. What does this mean? Who knows but it is a bit of encouraging news.
  23. People probably didn't notice the guy go down because they were so impressed with the harley. The boss's back was probably hurting so bad after riding the "softail" harley that he couldn't move.
  24. A friend of mine sent this idea to me. He can't use it because he is follically impaired. What do you think? www.twowheelcool.com/products.
  25. oops. The skin was rubbed off my let toe. The harley fat boy, heritage classic and softail duece are different bikes. I'm sure they are a good ride. The bike I rode is the softail custom which is the bike with a small front tire. I have ridden a fat boy and it was a smooth ride after you got up to speed but my back was killing me after about 90 miles.
