  1. Has this been done to our bikes? This article is a conversion kit for the V-Max, with CV Carbs ... seems like it wouldn't be massively hard to adapt it: http://roadstercycle.com/yamaha_vmax_fuel_injector_cv_car.htm
  2. I have a really sweet 89 Venture now, and I feel a little strange for owning 3 at a time, so I want a v-max. The Drag car of the bike world. Anyone have any leads. Cash is short right now, so i would really prefere a trade. I made a really nice, running 83 out of the two i have. The one just needs a rear master cylinder. The other one needs the carbs put together and both will run just fine. I have the fairings and all other plastic torn off the the one that doesnt currently run. The one that does run has like 28 thousand miles, and the one that doesnt have 58k. The one with 58k ran until i tore it apart for carb parts.
  3. What would I gain by changing my final drive out in my 2008 RSTD to a V-Max final drive? Also what year would I have to get to do this and is it a straight out change bolt for bolt? Joe and
  4. I'm new here so please bare with me... I'm looking at a 1984 venture 1200 .He is wanting 1100.00 for it.. Here is what he has told me : It has 33,000 miles on it , the air suspension is fully functional , has all body pieces except for passenger foot rests .. tires have less than 100 miles on them ... It needs a new front caliper and pads , clutch slave cylinder , carbs need to be cleaned/tuned to run properly... He said it hasn't ran since last November. I have never worked on a motorcycle except for routine maintenance (2007 v-max).. I have work on my own cars since I was 16 I'm 43 now. So I do have some mechanical ability.. So are these parts very expensive? Would they be hard to replace ? Is it something that can be done without specialty tools? All opinion and responses welcome . Thanks chuck
  5. Hi everyone. Will a V-Max clutch plates fit a Second Gen. Venture. If so which model do I go for. Problem is I am having problems sourcing clutch parts in the UK other than genuine Yamaha ones for my 1999 Second Gen. But there are hundreds of sources for V-Max clutch plates and spring. Your thoughts please. Best wishes. Neil. Old Miner.
  6. Pegscraper brought this up on another thread and I thought this would be a good discussion. In 2010 it looks like there couls be a totally new redesign for the Venture. Speculation is that at its heart will be the new V-Max engine in some form of detune , probably with strong low and mid range. The V-max engine is Fuel Injected. The question is will it reall make the engine and bike more effecient or is carburetor technlogy still viable? I used to work for Delphi where we delevoped the Efi for Harley. All indications so far are that the Harley engine start quicker with no warm up neccesary and that the engines actually run smoother and have better throttle response. Plus new Fly-by-wire technology is all the rage F.I .is needed to go to that step. ? What do you think?
  7. Hi my 2000 venture's clutch started to slip about a week after ownership in 5th mainly so i decided to source a extra clutch spring to pop in there and hopefully sort the problem, but i decided to pop over to a local v-max spares guy i know. I bought a complete basket with plates etc . Well my original is a H basket, and the v-max one has a scruffy E marked on the back if that means anything on the max's . Well im yet to try it to see if it eliminates the whine as im waiting for a gasket , but i thought you might like a few picks i took to show the difference in the teeth . V-max on the left has noticably narrower teeth to the original H Basket . Does anyone know if the I basket has Narrower Teeth compared to the H ?? Oh and a pic of my clutch basket tool welded a big screwdriver to a spare clutch plate lol
  8. Hi Guys i see alot of people go for the mobil 1 semi or fully synthetic oil etc etc, and as ive only just bought my venture ive looked on the net to see what people recommend, as im in the uk i cant get some of the American oils easily! But i was looking at a UK V-Max Specialist website today and they strongly recommend 20/50 mineral oil only . As they say the synthetic runs hotter and causes the clutch and starter clutch to slip ??? I know its a V-Max website but is the engine that different ? Cheers Edge
  9. For some of you that have been following the saga of my V-Max final mod to fit the '99 it did have a happy ending.... sorta... For those that hadn't I bought a V-Max final listed in our classifieds from another member. It was represented as being off a 98 with 16,000 miles on it. Sounded good. After receiving it Pegscraper agree'd to bore the housing out to accept the speedo sensor. Upon inspecting the gears after the mod Lynn found them galled and in poor condition. I might add that there was no way of telling they were bad until the sensor hole had been drilled out, but the possibility of quickly burning up the gears was very probable. So I sent a PM to the member/seller and he admitted that the final had been purchased on Ebay a while ago and he was just repeating what he'd been told by the Ebay seller, and I can understand that he didn't know about the galling. So I Figured I'd just wasted a couple of hundred bucks and was unsure what I was going to do. I did have another V-Max final stashed away that I'd picked up off Ebay 3-4 years ago. I planned on installing on the '91. I didn't know it, but when I dug it out, it also had the flat sensor housing. This is where Pegscraper comes to the rescue. Lynn offer to do this one pro-bono to at least a little of the sting out of the money loss, and I am really grateful. I don't want to embarrass him, but he deserves a big thank you... I did email the seller of the first final, explaining that I knew it wasn't entirely his fault as he had no way of knowing about the galled gears, but the final was basically unusable, or iffy at best. It was not what he'd represented. Also when I sell something that I can't verify as being what was represented I guarantee it 100%. I also bought the final because it was from a member. Caveat Emptor. So far no response. BTW the second final turned out great.
  10. Has anyone here swapped out the gears from a V-Max final with a 2ndGen final, and if so is it much of a hassle? Second. Is the stud in the V-Max final for the left shock easily removable? Here's the deal. I have spares of each and thought I'd swap out the gears and have a low geared RSV final, and a sellable high geared V-Max final to offset some of the costs, and I'll still have the original on the '99 to keep as a spare.
  11. I'm considering doing the V-Max rear end swap since I will be pulling a trailer on trips. Is there a place that is recommended for getting one of these? And is there a group of years that fit a 99 Venture? Also is this a great improvement over a stock rear end? Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions> Big Mike
  12. Ok gentlemen, I'm back for more assistance. After trying every non-invasion thing I could to get my one carb from leaking, I had to tear it down. I pulled the float bowl cover off and the float looked good and moved (by hand easily) and seemed to engaged the needle well. I took the float out and the needle. Needle is brand new and looks it. I don't see any nicks or tears in the rubber. Soo.... what test or experiment can I do to test the bouancy of the float. I have two others left over from the rebuild that I could swap. Also..... does anyone know if there are different float needle sizes between the V-max and Venture. A V-max guy rebuilt my carbs. I'm not sure if there are but I suppose if the rubber tip was slighter smaller that could cause it to not seat properly. From a probably standpoint, what are the odds that the seat is bad? (I've posted a few other times with the leaking carb (from overflow). I'm pretty convinced that it's not debris. I've drained all the bowls several times, taking the fuel line off and turned the bike on and off so gas pumped into a glass jar. Gas in all circumstances looked clear. Thanks as always. Bill
  13. I have a nice 92 V-Max pumpkin ready for installation in my 86 Royale. I have the original V-Max drive shaft and have been told that that must be substituted for the Venture shaft when the swap is made. The V-Max shaft is considerably shorter than the Venture and with the two units side by side I can not determine the necessity for the V-Max shaft to be used. Is there anyone out there that has completed this exchange that can offer some assistance?
  14. Well the local multi-brand bike dealer here had their big night show for Yamaha. Had a few Yamaha factory reps on hand and FREE HOT DOGS! The hot dogs turned out to be the highlight of the night. LOL! Just sayin'. Not a RSV in sight........a T-D, a row of V-Stars, plenty of crotch rockets and a 2010 V-Max. So I finally got a rep cornered and posed the question........Will there be a RSV in 2011? Got a shrug. He had no idea. But he did say "if" there was we could expect a choice of two colors. Like I expected more? But on the bright side........I got to park my butt on the V-Max. I likey! Felt like a mini-bike after the '84. Would have been nice to fire it up and go for a spin but that wasn't going to happen. And back in the used row they had a '89 Venture with 40,000 on it for $4,998.00. Burgundy with ghost flames. After a good look it looked like the new paint was there for a reason. But the hot dogs were good. Free. Always good. So much for the big event.
  15. Here's one if you're quick... Buy it Now $400 EBAY V-MAX
  16. I have decided to go to a V-max final drive on my 03 Venture. I have found some but either to much wear or way to expensive. I did come across an 88 final drive in good shape but I don't know if it will fit. Also I am looking to change out the gears and not the whole unit. I haven't done this before and I figure someone here will know. Ya'll have always come through for me. Thank you. Wayne

  18. I have decided to go to a V-max final drive on my '03 Venture. I have found some but either to much wear or way to expensive. 19. Did anyone see the V-Max on Barrett-Jackson last nite?? I think it was Jay Leno's and he had it auctioned for a charity in New York. It went for $120K. Probably because of who's it was and also because of the charity the money was going to. Thought it interesting that it was a metric and not an American made bike that was being sold in such an American setting. Don H.
  20. Some of you probably have seen this, but it was new to me. Check out the V-Max trike, seems like an odd combination but still looks pretty cool:cool10: http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2007/11/20/tilting-v-max-trike-by-tilting-motor-works/
  21. I just ran into this on Crashed Toys and thought someone here might be interested?? 2002 V-MAX
  22. Will a 97 v-max final drive fit an 03 midnight venture and if so is it worth the swap? Thank you. Wayne
  23. I have an 84 VR and am not happy with the hot starting issue. Changed the cables and using an Odyssey battery. It has never NOT started but sometimes makes me nervous. Can someone tell me what years of the V-Max would fit? Wayne
  24. I had a guy that I have dealt with before on E-bay offer to sell this to me for $300 yesterday. Sent me a picture of it tonight. He says it came off a V-max. I Haven't seen anything like it but think it may be a v-boost. Is it worth $300?
  25. First and foremost (and just in case you somehow missed it) there's the "Joint Venture" of the 3rd Annual Georgia Meet & Eat & Ride & Eat & Ride and the monthly North GA M&E. Here's the thread for that one: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35096 Next on our list is the Yamaha Demo Day at Moto 400. And yes, they will have not one, but two, count 'em, two, V-Max bikes to try out. If you get a chance, and can't make it to the M&E, you should definitely go to Moto 400. Personally, I'd love to try out the V-Max and the Raider. Here's a link: http://www.moto400.com/custompage2.asp?pg=yamdemoday And last, but not at all least, WOW Motorcycles is having their 7th Annual Japanese Motorcycle Days. If you're in the area it's probably worth checking out. http://www.wowmotorcycles.com/ Whatever you do tomorrow, have fun doing it, and be sure to make it a Great Day on Sunday for all of our wonderful Mothers... TERRY
