  1. So with the new Zumo 665 out, and at a heavy price, any one have any comments yet if they are using this unit? Literally an all in one unit, GPS , XM statelite, blue tooth and all the feature of the 660. Looking for feed back before I start looking to lighten up my wallet on the price. Thanks
  2. Here http://garmin.blogs.com/files/zumo_rebate.pdf
  3. I'm considering buying a Zumo but that's a lot of loot and I really only half-understand what all this thing will do. I would appreciate some input from those who have them and have used them. Any input would be appreciated. Does the Zumo plug into the bike's existing sound system? If so, how does it connect? If so does it then play through the AUX function? I understand the Zumo is Bluetooth compatible. Is that correct? Can you receive calls through your helmet headset? From reading the various threads about the Zumo it sounds as though the newer version may be significantly improved over the 550. Any thoughts on that? As far as playing the MP3 music, do you load the Zumo from your computer at home or does it have a jack to plug an iPod into? Thanks in advance for any information you might have to share. Kingbird '05 Venture (Liquid Silver)
  4. Well, I've decided that I'm probably going to upgrade to the Zumo 665. I've put my 550 with XM receiver in the classifieds if anybody is interested. If so, please note that I will not be able to ship it until I get home on weekend of the 16th. If it hasn't sold by then, I'll probably put it on Ebay.
  5. For those of you contemplating buying a Garmin, yesterday in Motorcyclist magazine that they are offering a $100 rebate on 4 different zumo models. The address that they posted in the mag was www.garmin.com/zumorebate
  6. We have a few glitches to work out, sorry if this has already been covered. We have a zumo, Q2 multiset, and a 2 iphones and our bikes are a rstd and 1100 v-star. We had no trouble pairing my Q2 with the zumo and then the iphone and the 2nd Q2 with my wifes iphone. If we're out on our own they work flawlessly, great reception to the zumo or phone, we're very pleased. When we're riding together Deb's is clear but can hear my stereo over the q2. Certain songs just have to be loud On my end I hear a lot of wind coming from her system. Enough that it prevents the system from going to standby. Deb's windshield is lower and doesn't have the same protection from the wind as I do. We need to lessen that effect?? Any suggestions? Next the zumo won't give voice commands to the headset when we're together and lastly after a stop and the zumo powers back up we can't talk bike to bike. By fluke we discovered if I try to make a phone call using the zumo and hang up, the intercom then works? We deactivated voice activation on Deb's q2 which allowed the systems to go to standby when there's a break in conversation. It would be nice to get the voice commands and lessen the wind buffeting. We have e-mailed cardo about the wind problem but haven't recieved a reply as of yet. Has anyone had any of these problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Mark
  7. Is anyone having any trouble with their Zumo motorcycle cradle. Last summer I started having trouble with a lot of noise during phone calls. Mainly the noise was with the party on the other end of the call. They were picking up a lot of noise as I would accelerate. By accident I found that if I wiggled the mic cable at the cradle connector I could influence the noise. Make it better or worse. The problem continued after I changed bikes. I checked the mic jack and it seemed fine. So I concluded that the connector in the cradle must be bad. I called Garmin with a warranty claim and they sent me a new cradle. I installed it today and everything is fine again. I researched this a bit on www.zumoforums.com and I found several complaints about the connectors on the cradle. Mainly dealing with the 3.5mm audio out connection. Garmin was good about replacing the cradle. I just worry now about what happens after warranty. This may be a weak design point. Dennis
  8. I'm not sure what kind of prices you guys are paying for the Zumo 550 but GPScity has them for 583.70 after 100.00 rebate... sounds like a decent deal to me...
  9. After 2.5 years of procrastination I bought the GXM30 Antenna to complete my Zumo 550...I installed it and to my surprise XM has a Lifetime subscription like my Sirius does so I bought the Lifetime subscription so I could finish out my Zumo Mods! Now even though I like Sirius better,I just had to get my Zumo completed, glad I did. I thought many times about just getting a cradle for my Sirius receiver but I have too much stuff on the handlebars already. Let the riding begin!

  11. OK, so as some of you know, I bought my bike on December 11th. I brought it straight home on a 30 degree day and parked it in the garage. It sat there for more than 2 weeks without being moved and although I did have a couple of 5, 10 and 20 miles rides (and maybe the longest was 60 miles)...I still didn't really get a chance to "enjoy" the bike. And frankly, I was pretty disappointed with my decision to trade my 6 year old VTX in on this RSV. I had 2 months of buyers remorse!! But during the last 2 months I did do some mods on the bike. I had the seat done by Rick Butler (thank you sir), I had the back lowered with lowering links, I added risers, a stebel horn, and finally a garage button. Today, I finally got a chance to put some SERIOUS miles on the bike...a 250 mile day (and some of the best BBQ I have had in a long, long time). So a buddy (he rides a 950) and I rode over to Helena, AR to check out a motel that he wants to stay in during the upcoming Wild Hog Music Fest Rally on April 22-24. It's about 125 miles over there (250 miles round trip)...and a small amount of interstate (30 miles). Today was GORGEOUS...temps in the mid 60's and sunny...just a great day for a ride. So there's the background...now the ride. First and foremost, after today's ride I am no longer suffering from buyer's remorse. The ride was very comfortable and I am starting to get used to the gearing. The power on a longer ride is much more appreciated...short rides you just can't appreciate the acceleration this bike has got. Handling was much better also on the longer ride. I am very comfortable in cornering now. So that's the good...and really there is no bad, but just some other observations. 1. I did go over a couple of large bumps and it may have bottomed out...I don't know for sure though. 2. I really don't like the the way they have the fuel alert system set up. My F alert comes on at 147 miles and shortly thereafter the FUEL LIGHT and then the bike starves for fuel (just like everyone here has said)...and I am afraid of how far I can go on the reserve. 3. The audio system, CB, my Zumo and then the Speakers, Helmet with Edsets and my Shure Earbuds - I could never get the CB to work the way I wanted it too...maybe I just need to work on it some more. I rarely heard anyone on it (when I was on the interstate), and no one would return my radio check (no, I wasn't annoying ). I have mixed feelings about the speakers on the bike. Sometimes they aren't too bad, and other times they just sound real "tinny" and "hollow". A lot depends on the genre of music and of course the quality of the signal or mp3 playing. I purchased a Scorpion Helmet (3/4) and sent it off to Edsets to have their helmet speaker system installed into the helmet. To be honest, I believe the fairing speakers sound better (to me) than the Edsets. The Edsets had virtually no bass and sound volume was not very impressive. The hookup, and utility for the other features of the headset are probably fine, but for me the sound out of the speakers left a little to be desired. Later in the ride I plugged in my adapter to be able to use my earbuds to hear the audio system including my Zumo 660 directions and the MP3 player on it. WOW...what a beautiful difference it made. I had used these same earbuds with this same Zumo on my other bike and the earbuds were directly connected to the Zumo...sound was still very good, but the volume was always at MAX levels. Now with the Zumo being played through the RSV audio system, the AMP makes this MUCH better quality and volume. If I had assign a number grade to the three options of listening to audio on the RSV, I would rate them in the following order on a 10 point scale. Fairing Speakers - 4 Edset Helmet Speakers - 2 Earbuds (Shure or otherwise) - 8 I'm a pretty happy camper right now. Not ecstatic yet, but happy. I hope that most of issues I have had with the bike are just not being familiar with how the bike handles and operates. I got time! Thanks to everyone for your help and I do appreciate the tips and suggestions many of you have offered. Wally
  12. I just purchased a Zumo660 and a Samsung U450 cell phone. I know of a person from the Zumo forums that has the same phone and has no problems using it with the Zumo. I am able to pair them and they talk to each other and both list each other but I am getting a message on the phone "connected as data mode M" and then the Zumo disconnects. I've tried phone to the Zumo and the Zumo to the phone and get the same result! I contacted Garmin and they tell me because the phone is not on their list they can't offer me any help. Any Ideas ????? Thanks Keith
  13. Updated my Zumo 550. After I downloaded the update to my computer I put it on the gps. I had to pick what areas I wanted. I picked the 48 states but that leaves quite a bit off. Is there any way I can increase my memory to carry all North America? The update had a pop up that said that with all the new stuff that was included there wasn't enough room for all the maps I used to have. ????
  14. FYI... http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/20/garmin-introduces-zumo-220-600-navigation-for-vaguely-budget-c/ A lower scale motorcycle Zumo GPS What do you think Wally?
  15. If you are looking for a Zumo 660 these guys have it on for $739.95CDN. www.gpscentral.ca/products/garmin/zumo-660.html I ordered mine from Future Shop and got free shipping plus price matching & 10% of the difference - $733+tax. Keith
  16. VR Assistance GPS files. The attached folder holds all the GPS files you need to upload the VR Assistance files into your Zumo, download the entire folder . They were created with the Garmin Zumo in mind. If your GPS uses this file extension (*.gpx) for Custom Points of Interest then they should work for your GPS. However I did not test these files in any GPS other then the Zumo 550 so if you have a Streetpilot you will have to test it on your own, but the file should work for any Garmin GPS that uses this file extension. If you download any of these files for any GPS other then the Zumo 550 please let everyone else know if they work or not, please include the manufactor and model of your GPS. You can download the entire US_CANADA file or you can download by State/Province to save memory. I downloaded the entire US_CANADA file into mine (file is not that big only 124 KB) but I made separate State/Province files for those that prefer to load only the states they ride in. I have included a word file (GPS File Member) which I downloaded from this site. It's a list of members who volunteered to help other members on the road. If you look at this file you will notice that some members are in BOLD print and others are not. If you name is in BOLD print then you have been included in the files. If you name is not in bold then you were not included in the files. You will also note that if you only provided your first name when you filled out this information on the site then your name will be follwed with a number. I used the last 4 digits of your phone number, I had to do this because you can't save a file with the same name and I had a bunce of Jims etc.. There are various reasons that you were left out, your phone number may be missing or you have not listed a city or the city you did list is misspelled or I can’t find a GPS coordinate for it. I did not use anyones' personnel address for the GPS coordinate, I used the city they listed. So if your in Tampa Florida you will be able to call up all members who live in Tampa. Call the person you want to get in touch with for directions because all the members in Tampa use the same GPS coordinate etc. If members wish to give you their GPS coordinte you can save that information over the files information. If you were left out for any reason but wish to be included in an update, which is to come later then please email me with the missing information and I will include you in the update. To upload the Custom POI’s into your Zumo you can follow the direction in your manual or you can follow the directions I have included below. If you do not have the POI Loader program you will need to download and install it on you computer. You can find it from this site: http://www.garmin.com/products/poiloader/ You need to put all of your Custom POI’s in 1 folder. The POI Loader will load all GPX files that you have in the folder. You can’t load the GPS with multiple directories so put all your POI’s in 1 folder. Open the POI Loader program. Wait for POI Loader to locate your GPS and click Next. Find the folder that your POI file is in and select it Hit Next, this will load all your POIs to the GPS Hit Finish Disconnect your GPS from the computer Turn on your GPS Touch "Where To" On your GPS, go to "Extras". Select "Custom POI's". If you see the list of custom POI's your ready to go. I am not an expert but I will try and help you if you email me. I have tested all the files on my Zumo and they work. If you find any errors please email me about them and I will correct them and include them in the update. There was a lot of work involved with creating these files and I was careful not to make mistakes but I know that there are errors so if you find one please let me know. If your GPS uses any of the following file extensions email me and I will email the file back to you in the requested format. Garmin GPS Database Version 2 (*.gdb) Garmin GPS Database Version 3 (*.gdb) MPS files (*.mps) DXF files (*.dxf) I tried to think of every thing but I'm sure I left something out. Enjoy.
  17. I got a Zumo for Christmas and am not that impressed with the sound quality from the Mp3 files I uploaded to the Zumo. How is the sound quality from the GXM 30 when listening to XM Radio? Is it in stereo?
  18. I updated my maps today (took over 6 hours) !!! Then when time came to actually load them on the Zumo, it announced that due to map expansion there was not enough room to load all maps and I should select the area desired...... Well.....That's really annoying !!!! Has anyone run into the same thing? And what did you do about it?? Now it seems you can load maps onto an SD card....So I did, but what does that mean? Is it then necessary to insert card each time you "run off the edge of the world"? and what happens to your music waypoints etc...? I am truly annoyed.
  19. January 6, 2010 2:45 PM PST CES: Garmin debuts Zumo 665 motorcyle GPS by Antuan Goodwin Font size Print E-mail Share Post a comment Yahoo! Buzz Share http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/bto/20100106/zumo-665-1.jpg (Credit: Garmin) LAS VEGAS--Most of our readers are pretty familiar with Garmin's Nuvi line of in-car GPS navigators, but most have never heard of the manufacturer's Zumo line of motorcycle GPS devices. At CES 2010, Garmin has added a new top-of-the-line model, the Zumo 665. The 665 replaces the previous Zumo flagship, the 660, but almost matches the previous unit spec for spec. Both units have the same 4.3-inch WQVGA touch screen, removable, rechargeable lithium ion battery, and waterproof construction. Both feature Bluetooth hands-free calling with A2DP stereo audio streaming. Dig a little deeper and you'll find that the new 665 boasts a better battery life (up to five hours versus the 660's three), but the biggest change is the switch to XM NavTraffic and weather from the soon-to-be-defunct MSN Direct network used by the older unit. A cool byproduct of the XM traffic integration is that the Zumo 665 can also stream XM Radio programming through its integrated speaker or to Bluetooth-connected headphones or helmet headsets. Combining an XM Radio tuner and a waterproof GPS device in one housing makes us feel a little better about the Zumo 665's $999 MSRP, but not much. The Zumo 665 motorcycle GPS navigation device is currently available.
  20. I have a small problem now. I bid on a Garmin 2730 on the 23rd of Dec and then promptly forgot about it because it was only for $199. Then the other day I was in a pawn shop. (my wifes family owns 2 and I am addicted) and saw a Zumo 550 (no mount or cable) for $20!!!!!!. When I got home I found out that I won the 2730 also. Which one should I mount? I have to buy the complete wiring and mount for the zumo, but think I would prefer it afterwards. What do you think?
  21. Been looking for a GPS and found a new Zumo 450 for $250. Is that a good price or should I stick with buying a nuvi 780 like I had planned? Thanks!
  22. Does anyone know of a chain store where I could buy a Zumo 550? Living in Canada I'm nervous about buying on line in case of warranty problems etc. Cross border shipping suks too.
  23. Just got my Zumo in the mail yesterday! Prior to buying the Zumo, I thought I read on this site that you could hook the motorcycle mount to the vehicle power cable and then plug it into the power source behind the faring. I can not find any place on the motorcycle mount to hook the vehicle power cable into. If this is note possible, what is the best way to hook the motorcycle power cable to power?
  24. My Zumo decided today that it will pick an icon for me and hold it. Won't let go of it. If I push another it bounces back and forth but will just stop on one like your holding your finger on it. Tried reset ,battery removal and updating. Nothing worked yet. Anybody else seen this behavior ? I don't mean me beatin my head against the wall...
  25. The cradel for the Garmin 765T has a port for an external microphone. Does any one know if the external microphone cable for the Garmin could be wired into the 5 pin cable on the 2G so that you can use a regular head set microphone instead of a Blurtooth enabled head set and a Zumo 550 setup? The 765T is so much cheaper than the Zumo 550, so if you could still make a hands free phone call that would be ideal.
