  1. Yesterday I bushed my 05 RSTD in and out from my driveway and it felt hard. The bike is stiffer rolling wise. Today after my ride doing 45km yesterday it was harder to do the same thing so I parked it and had taken my ladies bike to were I had to go (my mums) I have just now jacked up the bike thinking it mite be the bearings in the wheels but they are rolling ok the but brakes are scrapping. But now it is raining.:250:And yesterday too Has some one have a thought from there it may be coming from. Or am I just getting weaker in my legs
  2. Finally, I am nearing the end of very long list of things that my fairly new to me 86 needed and that I wanted. From finding and fixing an oil leak to new pads, new tires, rebuilding the carbs, finding and repainting to match a few replacment body parts and numerous other things, starting yesterday I am finally on the road. But yesterday was really really hot. Temps were well over 105; my thermometer here at the house registered 108.7; but I rode anyway and two up at that. Went on about a 25 mile ride. Now to my concern. The Temp Guage was just a tad over 1/2 way and in stop and go traffic was 3/4 the way to the red and the fan was running more than it was off. Is this normal in these conditions or do I have another project in store for me? I will be heading up to the Intl Rally and I expect the temps to be well over 100 most of the time I am running in and through Texas. Should I pull the radiator and have it rebuilt? I changed coolant, am running Amsoil 20/50, carbs are right on. Did the needle mod installing three #4 washers and does this thing run strong. No leaks of any sorts. Looking for input here. Thanks to all.
  3. A motorcyclist was killed here in Albany, Georgia yesterday. The woman that pulled out in front of him was charged with vehicular homeside and DUI. It happened about 1 mile from my house. His pastor was interviewed on TV and said although he didn't want to die yesterday, he was ready to go if called. The guy was active in his church and when the news spread more than 40 people showed up in the emergency room.
  4. Someone made my day yesterday (hoot, hoot!!) I got a package in the mail and what a wonderful suprise!!! Ran right home and put them on!! From one Virago owner to another....thank you very much! Here's a pix of how they look on my forks! Also wanted to post a pix of my new paint job. She use to be an ugly, and I mean butt ugly, burgandy and gold. This is a great family to belong to! Thanks again for making my day!!
  5. Yesterday was a sad day for the Darksiders. I mounted up my spare wheel yesterday. It came with a Dunlop E3 on it. Im going to run this tire out. But anywho, riding around the last 2 days, Ive noticed tar snakes again. I didn't feel them with the car tire on, but today, I'd go over one and the rear tire felt like it'd try to pass me. Hopefully this tire will be worn out in a couple of months and I'll be back to the darkside. Has anyone else noticed that you don't feel the tar snakes with the car tire on?
  6. http://www.rampagelift.com/ I want to take our travel trailer and our bike to the Grand Canyon this year and this seems to be the only way I can do it. I bought one yesterday and it should do the trick. I guess I'll have to take some polish and cleaning rags since the bike will be exposed to the elements.
  7. A couple of weeks ago I posted about how proud I am of our oldest son. Since he was a little boy he has wanted to get his pilots license and he finally started taking lessons. My grandpa was a pilot, my father is one and I just have to show him off. This was taken yesterday after his first solo flight!! Man, I'm proud to be that boy's mamma!! 5.6 hours of instructional flight and they sent him up alone!!! Life is great!
  8. i went for a ride yesterday.. i couldnt find anyone to ride with so i went alone.. i rode 287 miles alone.. i dont know if anyone else has this problem, but when i ride alone i just cant seem to make up my mind where i am headed.. i may start heading south but may very well end up going north.. but i guess that i really dont care.. as long as i can ride.. since i have lost weight i can mount and dismount a whole a lot much easier. learning to ride at 55 -60 mph now.. i used to be very hard to not go 75+mph.. when i ride alone my buddy is not there to keep me slow down.. startin to get used to this no job thingy.. now the wife is naggin me to work around here.. gotta find a job, at least then i know when im done..lol:smile11:
  9. Howdy All: (Happy Easter, etc.) First of all, thank you to all of you that have contributed to this site and especially those that take care of the administrative end; this has been fantastic in aiding my research for my recent purchase and I am sure will continue to be a terrific source of information, friendship and great way to be connected with fellow enthusiasts! I noticed that someone else just made a purchase too! Yesterday I picked up a 2001 Venture with 28k miles from the original owner (with complete maintenance records) and I swear there is not a scratch or stone chip on it! Platinum and green color combination. I picked it up yesterday morning, made the 370 mile drive home and I would have continued riding if the 40+ mph wind gusts and the thunderstorm hadn't followed me home... In one (northern Michigan) riding season (about 3 years ago) I put about 10k touring miles on an 82 Goldwing and had to give that up two years ago (long story and no need to get in to it) and have missed the distance touring ever since. I have been looking at these for about a year now, everything from the style to the amenities had me hooked as I don't need to tell all of you about that The records show that this bike has only had 1500 miles put on since June of 2006, so the owner had it serviced and the carbs cleaned and synced, etc for me and it runs like a dream. The tires show a little cracking/dry rot on the sidewalls (which is unfortunate because they have less than 2000 miles on them. But I'm not going to argue with throwing on a pair of 491 Elete II's... Any input on tires is welcomed (I haven't specifically looked for tire information on the forums... I'll be doing that shortly). Also will be looking for a good headset (my Goldwing didn't have a CB or Intercom... That will be real nice)... Well, I'll stop yammering on for now - just thought I'd drop in and say hi and share some excitement... Looking forward to many many terrific miles!! If anyone ever comes through northern Texas (well... Texans call it west texas) That is Lubbock or anywhere within 150 miles, let me know if you want some company!! Here are a few pictures of my 'new' ride Gdspeed all, Ride safe and keep it shiny side up!!
  10. If you guys have not been on Google Earth lately, they have added street level for a lot of places and it is amazing how much is there. We took a ride over to Norris dam, north of Knoxville yesterday and while at work today, I loaded Google Earth on my new computer and went down some of the same country roads we were on yesterday. I also went around the world to Thailand and you can see the bunkers where the F-4 Phantoms were parked that are still there. This was at Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base where I was stationed in '72. Just amazing. RandyA
  11. I rode my old 99 Vulcan 1500 Classic yesterday. I had sold it to my soon to be son-in-law. I have regretted selliing it to him from the start because I missed it. Boy do I remember the ride differently then what I experienced yesterday! I was MUCH rougher of a ride, it felt like I was on a 650ish bike - both power and weight. I could almost throw the thing around. Also, the power - My 07 Venture could run circles around it! Needless to say, I don't miss the old bike any longer. - Only the 'potato-potato' sound. craigr
  12. I passed a blue on blue 1st gen yesterday on Dekalb Technology Parkway, at the F.O.E. (Fraternal Order of Eagles) off Chamblee Tucker Road at Spagetti Junction in Atlanta, at about 3:30 p.m. yesterday (Sunday 3/ 22/09). Who was it? I turned around and tried to catch up but you had disappeared.

    SC Hwy 11

While riding down Hwy 11 in SC yesterday, being distracted by my wife talking to me, i think I passed a maroon 1st gen yesterday, over at the Cliffs subdivision. Anyone here or did i just not see that right?
  14. Had a good visit with Leeway yesterday and last night. He showed up yesterday morning and it looked like rain but cleared up and turned out to be a nice 75 deg F day, so we took a pleasant afternoon ride and came home to some fried fish and shrimp. Rode with him this morning to the interstate in Slidel La and saw him off to Florida to see that grandbaby. Just heard from him and the rain caught up with him close to the Fl. line. That's two visitors this winter, one from Jrichard on his way from Fl to TX, another great visit. Don't know what happened to Roadkill:confused24:.
  15. My new helmet was delivered yesterday! Good price - free shipping and prompt delivery. http://www.upnorthsports.com/Category/main.taf?cat=1609 Shep
  16. Well I wrecked the RSV yesterday. Truck pulled out in front of me and I had to drop it. Missed the truck, but he drove off anyway. Plenty of witnesses though, but none got a license plate. It tore up the whole right side of the bike. Me, I went over the handle bars and landed on the right side of my helmet and my right shoulder. Stayed alert through the whole thing. I ended up breaking my scapula (shoulder blade) and my number 4 rib. In the process of doing this, it caused me to have a partial collapse of my right lung. Spent the night in the hospital. My lung inflated on its own without surgery, thank goodness and the rest will just take time to heal. Went and checked out the bike today. She fired up, but didn't sound good. It would idle and I could give it some gas, but it sounded a little sick. Just waiting to see what the insurance says about it before making any decisions. Anyway, stay safe and be alert out there.
  17. In memory of all of our countries soldiers who have given their all for whats right....yesterday and all the tomorrows. Bless you all.
  18. Somebody tell me all the negative reasons why I should not dump my dsl and go satellite for my ISP. My only source of internet is Frontier dsl my phone provider. No other source exist other then satellite and dial up which I am on now.I have had nothing but problems with my dsl connections for 2 years and tech support is no help. When it runs good it downloads at 1200kb but slows down to a crawl 37kb yesterday. This happens at some point almost daily. Now I have a new problem it's totally dead, gone, out of service for the third weekend in a row.I had a long conversation with customer service and tech support yesterday morning. they offered a one time only $40 credit a months service fee but had no explanation for the failures.Every week when I call tech support I ask the same question. Is anybody else in the state of WV having a problem and the answer is NO nothing reported but my neighbors are complaining to.The phone company has retired all the people that knowed what they were doing and layed off the rest. Also no field service available on weekends M-F only. Just had to vent I'm on Ramona's labtop on dialup. My contract for dsl will be up in April for renewal.
  19. Finished up my chemo treatments yesterday!!! Now just have to finish up the radiation which will be on Tuesday of next week. Then will be done!!!!:big-grin-emoticon::dancefool: Don H.
  20. The one weekend that I had to do my clinical rotations for the Emergency Room coincided with the Texas Stampede. It is about a 5 hour ride from here, but I had all kinds of plans to leave right after my shift yesterday and then be back here in time to start the shift at 4 this afternoon, but my instructor called a study hall for yesterday for a refresher. (4 of the 6 of us failed the exam) I asked if I had to be there because I had passed (96%). She said that she wanted me to mentor the other students. I need this course for my potentially next career. I am a nurse already but the Army requires the civilian exployees (which I hope to be in March)to have a paramedic certification to teach the same thing that I have been doing for 25 years. I know JB, Tom and Maverick will bring great pictures and stories back, but Mama told me to stop whining to her, so I thought I would write it out. Sorry to complain. At least I can still ride all winter, and I know some of you already have Seafoam or Stabil in them looking forward to another early spring, so what do I have to complain about. Wow this is therapeutic. Thanks for the chance to vent. Wilkie PS UTAdventure...... will be back in Utah for Thanksgiving so I feel your pain
  21. What a beautiful day for ride and I can't think of a better reason for a ride. Yesterday was the ride for Capt Terry of the Lehi police force that was shot in the head twice during a traffice stop. My daughter had been asking to go for a ride and yesterday was the day our schedules both worked and Pegasis1300 had let us know about this charity ride. So we packed up and decided to go. It was great to get there and find out that they would have to send us our T-shirt later on because the turn out had been significantly more than they anticipated! They estimated that over 400 bikes had shown up for this ride. Motorcycle officers from the Highway Patrol and other local forces showed up to help guide the ride. They shut down roads so that we could all get through. It amazed me that they took all of the bikes as one large group! What an enjoyable day.
  22. We had another motorcycle/car crash yesterday morning. A 37 year old man was killed when a 17 year old girl pulled out in front of him on a 4-lane highway. It was a bit foggy, but evidently the girl did not look good enough to pull out. I rode in to work yesterday morning at about that same time and was irritated by the number of cars without any headlights on, but I am pretty sure he had his on. RandyA
  23. Well we sruvived the storm. Had to work at Bogalusa PD the last two days and the internet went out yesterday and just came back on. We were with out power yesterday morning until just a little while ago and the phones have not been working right. No major damage here just mainly small limbs all over. Had some tornados around and it was kind of rough last nite. Thanks to jrichard and trich for calling and checking on us.
  24. Woohoo! Rode 900 miles through Fay yesterday! Well, to be honest, the first 400 out of Fort Worth was dry and beautiful, but that last 500 - WOW. Thank goodness for a new Avon Venom on the rear - I was able to keep the bike around 70 MPH in just about everything without even a hint of anything but perfect control. Those tires are just AWESOME in the rain. Still have a Pirelli MT66 on the front, about half worn, and it did wonderful yesterday too. Sitting at my brother's place in north Georgia today watching it poor some more. Wonder where Fay keeps getting all this power and water? Hopefully it will move on by over night so we can head out for Arkansas tomorrow and some DRY riding! Goose
  25. I called 2 local Yami dealers and each told me that I needed a different kit. One said the kit was several items that totaled about $50 and the second told me that alls I needed was teh 2 seals for the slave kit if I was dealing with a small leak. I am dealing with a small slow leak but want to make sure I change out the right items. Is the 2 seal changes enough typically?? On another note I won a set of RK pipes yesterday fro $16.50 yesterday and they are local to me. So I will get to add them as soon as I arranage for the fitting I need from our member who is selling them. My clearview arrived yesterday so I guess I can give gunboat his shorty windshield back. Thanks for letting me borrow it gunboat!! I out of town at the moment at sons house in RoundRock Tx but hoping I can get my biek back on the road and take a ride next weekend. have a great weekend everyone jb
