  1. A buddy of mine just traded his '06 Tour Deluxe in on an '09 Venture. Today was the first time we've ridden together since he got it. He wanted my wife and me to try it out, so we swapped bikes for a few miles. I loved it! For some reason it feels lighter than my RSTD. It handles great, and I love the seat and having a radio. I didn't really want to give it back. Karen liked it too. She said she could see over my head on it, and didn't have to hang her head out to the side to look forward. This is a picture of him and his wife. I told him about this site, but he's not much for computers.
  2. Hey, Barend, I hope I don't embarrass you or tell a tale out of school, with this, but I had to say again what an absolute joy it was to meet and chat with you and your wife over lunch today! I wish we could have done it WITH the bikes and with my wife along . Having more time would have been nice, too. (*) I realize, all we did was eat a little something, talk and take care of our little piece of business, but I just really enjoyed the time, being there with the two of you. I also wanted to apologize. I was so into the moment, I totally forgot to thank you. So, Thank You!! I hope the boards serve you well. I hope to see you guys again out there, somewhere. * (Probably wouldn't have hurt to have been oh 50lbs or so lighter, better looking and 10 or 15 years younger, either!! But, hey, sometimes ya just gotta go with what ya got, right?) OK, stick a fork in me, cause I'm done!
  3. Hmmm, my wife has been asking me to cut down the maple tree in my front yard for two years now. The power company has hacked the tree pretty bad, and it's hollow. A local stray cat had a litter of kittens in the tree about a year ago. So I finally get the tree service scheduled to come out and cut the tree down when my wife says a bird is nesting in the tree. I walked out there and sure enough, a robin is firmly wedged into her nest. Wikipedia says the eggs should hatch in about 12 days, and the baby birds should be out within another two weeks after that. I suppose the tree has been there for 60 years, whats another month, right?
  4. So i was taking my wife to our local garden store this afternoon (any excuse to ride) and on our way back as i was approaching a very green light at a busy intersection, i saw roughly 30 Harley riders stoped at their red light to my right side. just as i was about to enter the intersection (running about 50 mph) the first rider just looked at me and pulled out, then the pack proceeded as well - these guys were the hardcore riders and tried to run us off the rode providing gestures and all that hooplah. about all i could do was slow down as the idiots passed me on the left & right just flying. they were headed to a club (bar) that hosts bikers events, even as we approached the event they still were dodging in front of me. is there some motorcycle etiquette that i violated by not stopping at my green light as the ran their red light? scared the dog doo outta my wife and kinda shook me up with these guys coming so close to us. anyone else had this type experience?
  5. Never been to a wedding like this. My cousin just got married in Fayetville this weekend. The wife and I rode our bikes there from Mcleansville . Great ride as it was a little over 80 degrees for highs this weekend. As the wife and I rode our bikes the furthest to get there they put us second in the setup wright next to the grooms bike and the best mans bike. It was cool. I've never been to a wedding like this before but I like the idea. David
  6. Long story short... My wife has decided that she HAS to have her own bike and then decided that we HAD to take the Venture on a 60 mile trip yesterday afternoon to look at the one we found... even knowing that there was rain in the forecast. Well, we were ok until we were 50 miles from home on the way back. And no rain gear. Then the bottom fell out..... it was one of the best rides we've had in a while! Yeah, I was worn out when I got home from trying to keep all my attention on the road, watching the other vehicles and trying to see through the drops but not even a hint of a slip from my Kumho! And we even had a guy taking photos of the funny looking wet people when we pulled over once. FYI, it was an '03 VStar 650 Classic with 3,600 miles that we went to see. Going to pick it up tomorrow!
  7. Was out today and went by North County Yamaha in San Marco. They had a Venture on the floor so I of course had to go look it over. It was a really nice looking 2004 Midnight Venture for sale. It only has 8700 miles and they are asking $10,499 for it. This bike is in excellent condition. Beyond the usually goodies it had the leather cover for the trunk (don't know if this is stock or not on the MV's but I want one for my 06 Cherry red). The pipes were drilled out and punched and sounded really nice. It has the Clearview windshield with the vent. That's about all I can tell you about because the wife was forcefully pulling me away from it (guess I didn't hide the slobbering well enough) Just thought I would mention it in case anyone is looking for one. Also thought I would mention it so that it might get bought thus keeping me out of trouble with the wife. If it doesn't get bought soon I do not know how long I will be able to resist it. If you want more info I can give you the number to the place just pm me.
  8. the Withdrawal of my Membership at Venturerider.org !! !! NOT !! You won't get rid of me that easy !!! :whistling: But i'd like annouce the newest Addition to my Stable .... a brand new 2009 VMAX. http://wkhost.webkicks.de/squeeze/Docs/09/Foto292%28Medium%29.jpg http://wkhost.webkicks.de/squeeze/Docs/09/Foto294%28Medium%29.jpg http://wkhost.webkicks.de/squeeze/Docs/09/Foto295%28Medium%29.jpg http://wkhost.webkicks.de/squeeze/Docs/09/Foto296%28Medium%29.jpg http://wkhost.webkicks.de/squeeze/Docs/09/Foto297%28Medium%29.jpg http://wkhost.webkicks.de/squeeze/Docs/09/Foto298%28Medium%29.jpg http://wkhost.webkicks.de/squeeze/Docs/09/Foto299%28Medium%29.jpg It was last Tuesday. My Wife gave me a ride over to the Dealer where i've ordered the Bike on 07/18/2008. My Wife dropped me at the Dealer and they have had everything preped as it was spoken over the Phone. My Payment went over the Bank the Friday before, so all we had to do was inspecting the Bike, get first Information's from the Sales Guy and off i go. My Wife left a bit earlier, because she had another Appointment at the Office. I said; i'll be there in two Hours or so ... When i took of the first Time, it was a strange Feeling. The Bike is fairly high, but the Pull this Motor produces is noticeable even at off Idle. When i had accustomed my self to the Seating Position, i was out of Town and riding over some wide and not too cornery Back Roads. The Asphalt was cold, it was only 4 Degrees Celsius that Day and with new Tires and cold Roads, you gotta take it easy. I was only revving up to 3 or 3.5 k because i don't want to ruin my Ride on the first Encounter. I stopped in front of the old Church to take the Pics and have a Smoke and grin onto my new Bike. After i took off, i was more encouraged and getting more on the Motor. I revved up to 4.5 k and some more but only with slightly opened Throttle. This Motor is awesome. I'm sure it will pull my Arms out soon. I arrived at the Office were my Bikes are sitting after 1.5 Hours and 35 mls ridden. My Wife said i was grinning all the Way from left to right Ear. I think she's right, i have some Problems with the Muscles in my Face since. The Bike will sit another 4 to 6 Weeks until the Weather clears up and i'm able to give it the Treatment it's ought to. Please refrain from Comments about how ugly this Bike looks. I know, and i don't like some Aspects like the Head Light and the Signals myself. I didn't buy it because of the Look, this will change anyway. I bought it for the Motor, the Frame, the Suspension, the Brakes. Everything else will be changed anyway sooner or later.
  9. As we all know life has a way of throwing curve balls. Mine came in the form of a daughter starting in college, moving to a new location, wife has a degenerative back issue. I'm not complaining, because I truly am blessed beyond what I deserve. That being said, I have a 2006 Black Cherry Venture for sale. This bike is in great shape, only 7500 miles mostly highway. It has a lowering kit (because i'm only 5'7" i felt more comfortable lowering it), luggage rack for the trunk. Misc add ons. New tire at 5000 miles. Kelly Blue Book says it worth 11,500. Brad and Lona saw my wife and I after we bought the bike new. We were on our way to Colorado. We ran into them in Lusk WY and then again a few weeks later in Worthington MN. I put less than 500 miles on the bike this year, it just isn't getting used. I'm looking for a fair offer. I live in Worthington, MN (SW corner of the state) Thanks for reading. Bob bobnlaurie
  10. Me and my wife went for a ride with another friend and his wife yesterday to get a bite to eat, great ride the weather was beautiful, first ride of the season after a long winter. It felt so good to finally get to ride after what seemed to be the longest winter ever, it seemed like the perfect day. I just bought the Venture toward the end of 2008 and i love the bike, it rides great and is an awesome looking bike. Now, i'm not the biggest guy in the world either but i handle the bike pretty good after doing a couple of short guy mods. We get to the local Hooters and of course lots of bikers etc sitting out front on the patio enjoying the nice weather, and i am backing the bike in a parking spot and there's probably 50 people at least looking of course. Everything was going just fine until.............i get a Charlie Horse in the back of my left leg and i am thinking to myself Hoooooly Shhhh.......!!!! The parking lot was sloped to the left so there was no way i could get the bike over to the right especially with the wife on the back and rest on my right leg. I could barely even move my left leg much less raise it to put the kickstand down lol. I finally did it but let me tell ya, it wasn't easy. I thought for sure that my new Venture was going down, scared the crap out of me! I think the only thing that gave me the strength to keep it up and get the kickstand down was knowing that all of those people were watching lol. Anyone ever had that happen to you?
  11. Hi everyone, I also just got around to posting. Happened to come across the site by doing a search for a windshield (made a deal with Marcy btw). So I've already saved the $12.00 membership fee. Riding a 2001 RSV bought used in 03 with 5800 miles on it, paid $7200. Deal of the century, Imho. Go by the name of Cruise57 because, you guessed it I love to CRUISE, but not limited to M/C's, Wife and I love cruise ships also. Looking forward to long friendships and tons of chatter from eveeryone here. Bike pics is from our annual Ride-Across-Maryland, Breast Cancer charity ride, normally 1200 bikes. Coming up end of May.....can't wait. My wife is a 3 year survivor now WooHoo. Donations are accepted through Rideacrossmaryland.org / sponsor a rider / David Shaw (I also posted in New Member area, wasn't sure where to post)

    1st gen armrests

I have been a loyal venture rider for a few years now and have been sprucing mine up since the day I got it. The one thing I still need and cant seem to find are a set of rear armrests for the wife. She thinks this will make an already awesome ride heavenly... any idea where I could obtain these hard to find after market pieces???? thanks adam:headache:
  13. A new member went down today. Highlander1ga (James) and his wife Angie were on their way to a family gathering when around 2 pm today the car in front of them stopped for no apparent reason and Highlander1ga could not stop and tried to go around the right side but there was not enough shoulder. Highlander1ga went over the embankment and noticed Angie was not on the bike. Highlander1ga put the Venture into the bank jumped off and ran to the aid of his wife Angie. The left side of the Venture is pretty messed up. Highlander1ga is not hurt other than a pulled leg mussel. I visited Angie in the hospital and she is in great spirits. She has a broken wrist, a fractured ankle, and one of her knees is about double the size it should be. She is at home tonight recovering from the accident and is still in great spirits. Lets all wish her a speedy recovery.
  14. Oh no, The Ebay guys have got me again, A White 86 with side car and under 30,000 miles. My wife would kill me, but it would mean a trip to New York to pick it up. It is Perty though Wilkie:178:
  15. This was addressed in the 1st gen folder, but decided to put it here since it is happening with my 07. Tonight after I got home from work, I noticed a slight "rumble" noise when I pulled in the garage when I put it in neutral and let the clutch lever out. Did not sound like throwout bearings. Only hear it when in neutral without the clutch engaged. No slipping, shifts normally, but it is just loud enought that the wife even heard it. If I take it to the stealer, are they going to tell me to pay because clutch is a wear item and not covered? Bike is only 2 years old with 21,000 miles.
  16. Just a few pics from this weekend's meet. Ok so we have Bugfish (Jim), Ladybug (Wendy), U-turn (Mike) Thats the first couple of pics Then we have ADC (Arthur) Bug and Wendy with the sampler beers Mark and his wife Debbie Pam and Katie (Bills wife and daughter) Bill & Mike (U-turn) Now you know who everyone is. Margaret
  17. Since I have become a member of this site I have lost most of my morals. I am almost morally and financially bankrupt. I have lied, stolen, cheated and pillaged to maintain my RSV to the standards of this group. Sneaking parts packages into the house and hiding them. Going for weeks without food and drink to buy the next hot item someone else has on their RSV. Having the mailman hide my packages in the garage for me if im not around. Having parts shipped to friends houses to avoid a divorce. It might be a year before my wife sees a "new" part on the bike and askes where that came from. aND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, SOMEONE ON THIS SITE CANT WAIT TILL I KICK THE BUCKET SO HE CAN TAKE MY BIKE and MY WIFE!!! My life is in ruins thanks to you all..........And yet, I just cant stop.........I need my daily fix here at this site.....plus stainless steel lines....a V-Max rear end.....chrome forks.....custom paint....Foose wheels........Corbin seat..........more chrome.......more lights......more, more, more...arrggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! IT DOESNT END!!!!!!!!!!!:starz: So in the immortal words of Henny Youngman...take my wife please! Help me please..... :bawling:
  18. It's time for me to come out of the closet! The VentureRiders forum has really been a good place for me to get things off of my chest and I hope this time is no different. The spirit of openness displayed in the past, mixed with a tolerance for people of all types and preferences, makes me think that it is 'ok' to share one of my closely guarded secrets; a secret that my closest friends and family would shun me for if they knew about it. Let me say, first of all, that I was cold-busted keeping some thongs hidden in one of my drawers. No, they don't belong to some girl. They belong to me. I like wearing them! I can't help myself. It's not like I wear them all the time. Just whenever I can get a little "alone" time or riding the scoot, I like to slip into them. They make me feel free! When I first started wearing them they were kinda rough right were they rode up the middle, but after I got used to them, I hardly noticed they were there. This actually started a long time ago, when I was in the football camp in High School. I know, I know, but to help deal with certain stresses, I had some blue ones that I wore so much they almost came apart at the seems. It's not like I wore them during any inspections or reviews. But I can tell you that there was nothing better to wear especially when I was drunk! Well, after the High School, I never wore them again. I guess that I was just a little embarrassed. Also, it's not like I have any girly colors. I've got some in black, and a light blue, and my new favorites are a sort of darker magenta (not pink!), but definitely magenta. In the past, I have over-compensated for my hidden desire to wear them, and whenever the situation presented itself, I have openly criticized and bashed others that do, in front of my wife. But, about a month ago, when my wife was out of town, I cracked. I was at "that" section of the Wally-World and I just threw some that I thought might fit into the cart. I new they would go unnoticed by the checkout girl, probably assuming they were for my wife. I bought them and I wore those little babies all weekend long! I was shocked at the freedom I experienced. Well, my wife first threatened to expose me to friends and family. She was really shocked and I cant blame her. The whole thing caught her off guard. But now that I have been cold busted, I figured, hey...I might as well be me! She came around the corner a little while ago and saw me with my black ones on. She just wouldn't stop laughing. I can accept that. It is worth it, to just be who I really am. I've stopped the pretending...I like wearing thongs!! I posted this in hope that others who have this passion would post their love for thongs. If you want, just post right now, before you read any more. "I love wearing thongs!!" You know who you are. With a forum this big, I can't be the only one! G O . A H E A D . And . D O . IT Now, while hopefully someone is posting their passion for "thongs", let me explain this situation in more detail. When I was a little kid, my parents bought me a pair of leather sandals. I hated them and I can tell you that my toes still bear the scars of those unprotective footwear. Those sandals are in my earliest negative childhood memories. I was just one of those kids that smashed his foot into everything he could and honestly, the scars arent just on my toes...they're on the inside, too! One day, I cut those leather sandals up with some scissors and after having my a$$ severely beaten, I was never made to wear sandals again. My parents gave me some cowboy boots, praise the Lord, and that started my fond appreciation for all things BOOT! Oh, my family has teased me about sandals ever since and everone around me from those days forward, is well aware of my outward disgust for sandals. Then came summer camp. I needed thongs (flip-flops, shower shoes, whatever!) for the pool and the showers. I hadn't been at camp for two days when, at the pool, I was wearing some thongs and some water got under them and it was like hydro-planing. I busted my head on the concrete and was sick for two days with a serious concussion, and had to go home. That was it as far as I was concerned, but then came the football camp. I HAD to have some there. No telling what the heck was going on in the shower before I hit it and I was glad to have something between me and the floor. If it had been up to me though, I would have preferred to wear some boon dockers in the shower. But I did not have any serious accidents while wearing thongs in football camp. And I did get drunk while wearing some! After the High school, no more. Now, I love boots! Cowboy, hiking, desert, jungle, moon, boon dockers, jump, tankers, engineers, pole-climbers, Doc's, snakebite, and if you can put a steel toe in them, that's even better.Well, after decades of wearing boots, I have begun to realize that my feet need some attention. In the past, if I wasn't in shoes or boots, I was barefoot. But, as I have gotten older, it is hard for my flat feet to go barefoot all night around the house. So, one day I was at the store and I bought some thongs. Actually two pairs in different sizes and they both fit so I kept them. My feet really needed this. This is all hilarious to my wife because, as I said before, everyone knows that I have an unnatural abhorrence to sandals, flip-flops, etc. So, I kept them from her. She busted me. Because I have been such an out-spoken critic of all things 'sandal', she has threatened to take pictures of them and send them to my family. She laughs herself silly now every time she sees me in some. Hey, I just didn't know what I was missing. Not only did I need them, I like them! I think that I am just going to only wear them in the house though! I hope you can appreciate the effort at humor in this post. While it may not seem like a big deal to you reading, it has been a huge deal around my house! My wife just cant stop with the teasing. Now, I am hoping to see if someone was tricked into posting that they love wearing ladies underwear!!! BEER30
  19. I have a 2004 RSV Midnight and am replacing the rear tire soon. What is the best tire I can buy for this bike? My wife of 42 years rides with me and I want the best tire available.
  20. Thought I posted this one awhile back but looking back thourgh old threads I can't see where I did, so forgive me if I am wrong. This was one of what I call my videodoodles worthless footage set to some music. This was when I had just got my new Pro HD camera. One of this last nice ride days of last year so took camera, wife and best buddy out for a play day and tried to capture some of it. Anyway, it has bikes in it lol.... 21. On Feb 18th my wife suffered a massive stroke to the right side of her brain. Getting her to the Hospital and having her treated with TPA SAVED HER LIFE. Check with your local Hospital concerning their use and the time restriction for the use of this drug. Our Hospital has a 3 HOUR window only for this drug use....In other words if the stroke victim is NOT in the Hospital within 3 hours of the the stroke striking the drug will not be used. My wife spent 4 days in Intensive Care.....she is now in a Rehab Unit and is scheduled to come home on the 4th of March!!! The recovery process that this drug has provided for my wife is nothing short of amazing and fantastic........ ***Tissue Plasminogen Activator (tPA) AHA/ASA Recommendation We strongly urge people to seek medical attention as soon as possible if they believe they're having a stroke or heart attack. The sooner tPA or other appropriate treatment is begun, the better the chances for recovery. Boomer........Grateful for modern medicine in the USA.
  22. I guess we have decided to buy a Uni-go trailer and I am wondering if there are any used ones out there. I have read all there is on this site about them, pros and cons. My intent is light camping,(no cooking) with about every 3rd day in a motel. We are planning a trip from Virginia to Yellowstone this summer. My thought is that even when we don't camp, much of the time we need both summer and winter clothing as well as rain gear, ect. Wife is not a light packer and she well fill what ever size trailer we get, so I think small is best. We just got back from Key West, trailered to Daytona , then put 1200 miles on the bike riding arround. Sure would have been nice to have a little less junk on the bike. We have a 20 dog who loves to go also, he rides in a box on the luggage rack on our one day trips. Any suggestions or leads on a used trailer would be appreicated (forget the one about a lighter packing wife, got to keep this one)
  23. So I have decided to remove the passenger seat and pillion. I don't do any 2 up since my wife is deathly afraid of motorcylces. I was originally going to get the rear fender rack, but wanted to avoid more chrome (I know, I know, bikes are supposed to have chrome) because I like the look of the black and I think chrome take away from it (IMHO). So after some thought and inputs from my wife, I came up with a new idea. Had a piece of 3/8 smoked plexiglass from an old stereo cabinet in my collection of stuff I never throw out. Took some measurements, did a little online research and came up with a plan. I cut the piece to size, sanded and buffed all the scratches out. Cleaned up the edges and then warmed up the piece in the oven at 270 for 30 min (did some test pieces to figure out the right time). Took the warm piece to the covered fender and molded it to fit. After it cooled, I drilled out the holes, put some spacers in. I couldn't find the right size screw for the back and Home Depot, have to try another place. Below is the end result. Total cost, $3.75 in spacers and screws. Next step is to get the "STAR" laser engraved on the back. Should look good.
