  1. We're headed to the Oregon and N. California coast this summer and I am trying to do a little planning. On the map it appears that there are several redwood state and national parks. Which ones to visit for seeing the big trees? We're hope to hug the coast as much as possible before we turn east to Yosemite. Dennis
  2. http://www.smokechasing.com/ $25 to sign up, and you then try to meet certain goals set by the tour-- Rider must visit a minimum of 15 BBQ Joints to be considered a Smoke Chasing Grand Tour finisher. Finisher Levels are: a) Griller Visit 3 different states & eat at 5 different BBQ joints in each state b) Smoker Visit 5 different states & eat at 3 BBQ joints in each state c) BBQ Pit Master Visit 15 different states & eat at 1 BBQ joint in each state .
  3. Come visit in Chat, there is a good group. Yama Mama
  4. Don, Moderators, and Members I want to express my extreme appreciation of this site...and it is due to the above folks. I no longer own a Venture (which I still think is a GREAT bike), but I REFUSE to leave this site...it is the ONE motorcycle site I visit several times a day. As I bought a wing a few months ago, I started looking for sites that have info regarding this bike. There are several out there, and, for the most part, are good to visit. However, these sites allow about any jerk to post...whatever they want to post. Some of these people are really out there, and I find that it really detracts from being able to enjoy the site as much as I do Venturerider.org. I know I don't have to read what they post, and normally I don't. But every once in a while (depending on the topic) I read what they post, hoping it will add something of interest...NOPE, they just want to stir the pot! Stirring the pot can be a fun thing...it is on this site...good natured ribbing of fellow members. But on the sites of which I speak, the comments are caustic...extremely so. I'm not thin skinned...28 yrs in the military ensured that...but, I cringe at some of the things a few of those members post. I know on VR.org these folks would be taken to the wood shed by Don, or the moderators, or the other members...in an effort to get them back in line. Again, thank you to all the aforementioned, for keeping this a site that is ENJOYABLE to visit (as I said, several times a day). You are a great group of people and I thank you for not showing me the door even though I no longer own the bike that brought me to this brotherhood. I will close now, before the tears start to flow (just kidding...I am not THAT moved by it all). Keep on doing what you do...it works!!!!
  5. Billy Bob had been having terrible problems sleeping and his cousin Jim Bob told him that it was all in his head. So Billy Bob went to a psychologist. The Dr. asked Billy Bob what the problem was and Billy Bob told him that he just could"nt get any sleep. When asked why he replied, there is someone under my bed and when I get under the bed to see who, then there is someone on top of the bed, and this goes on all night long. The Dr. said that he could cure Billy Bob but he would have to come back 3 times a week for a year. Billy Bob ask what each visit would cost and the Dr. said $100.00 a visit. Billy Bob never went back and the Dr. saw him on the street about a year later and ask him why he never came back. Billy Bob said that he had been cured. The Dr. asked who had cured him and Billy Bob said that his cousin, Jim Bob had cured him. The Dr. asked how and Billy Bob said that he had cut the legs off of his bed.

  8. With all the new technology regarding fertility recently, a 65-year-old friend of mine was able to give birth. When she was discharged from the hospital and went home, I went to visit. 'May I see the new baby?' I asked 'Not yet,' She said 'I'll make coffee and we can visit for a while first.' Thirty minutes had passed, and I asked, 'May I see the new baby now?' 'No, not yet,' She said. After another few minutes had elapsed, I asked again, 'May I see the baby now?' 'No, not yet,' replied my friend. Growing very impatient, I asked, 'Well, when can I see the baby?' 'WHEN HE CRIES!' she told me. 'WHEN HE CRIES?' I demanded. 'Why do I have to wait until he CRIES?' 'BECAUSE I FORGOT WHERE I PUT HIM, O.K.?!!'
  9. The Canadian parliament is currently in hot debate over whether or not to repeal the former government's legislation requiring long gun owners to register their weapons. THAT is NOT the topic of this thread! I'm simply wondering if there is any venturerider with a long gun that could make a visit to a certain someone in Lacombe, Alberta. I've requested the address and will post it WHEN I get it.... http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Honda+Gold+Wing/2007+Honda+Gold+Wing/LACOMBE/Alberta/19_2794830_/?ms=motorcycles_atvs

    Moving son

We got to ride this week, but it wasn't for the fun of it. We helped my son move all his belongings back home from Fort Drum. The ride was on I-90 and 86. Talk about boring! The fence along the thruway is like a impenetrable wall, grown over with vegetation so seeing anything but pavement is not going to happen. He is leaving for the other sandbox, rock pit later this month for a year. He finally gets to a base after 14 yrs that we thought that we would be able to visit him at regularly and now this. Can't complain to much, he has grown into a very level headed man. Just wish he'd hurry up and marry so there would be more grand kids to spoil! Oh yeah, the 86 purred like a kitten 45 mpg at 72 mph, God I love this bike!
  12. Well made it home safe and sound. Was gone 6 weeks did 11 states and 4100 miles. Had a great visit with my sisters and mom in CA and got to see some old friends from my much younger days. Had a horrible hot ride across hwy 50 in Nv and UT but was great going thru the Rockies. Met some nice bikers from all over the states and Canada. Even ran into a couple in the middle of the desert in Nv from Missouri got to talking and found out he was my aunts first cousin. Just never know who you might run into out riding the country. Now tto clean the bike and get ready to go visit friends at the Hub. Sharon and I will be down early fri morning Bill can only stay for the day she has to work sat. John
  13. We're planning a visit to Wheels Through Time on 11/15/08. This might be your last chance to see this wonderful museum, as they are indicating they will close the Maggie Valley location at the end of this month. This road trip will be made in conjunction with the November North GA M&E. Please click the link below for more info: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=269216#post269216 Terry
  14. Toni and I will be camped at Magnolia Springs State Park for the Memorial (OOPSS Had Labor day mixed up )day weekend. We won't be hard to find as there are only 18 sites. Come visit on Sat the 29th If we get enough we will go for a ride. Hope to see you then.
  15. This is written to inform any of you who may want to visit Callawy Gardens, Ga on a motorcycle. My wife has wanted to visit this pplace for a long time so we loaded up last Friday and rode over there expecting to see all the beautiful flower and fauna that this place is so famous for. After a trip of near 150 miles we pulled up to the gate and I jokingly asked the attendant what all we could see here other than flowers. To which she replied, "We don't allow motrcycles in the park!" We were shocked and asked why. The answer was "It's against the rules!" She suggested we could get off and walk through the park and my wife responded "No thanks!" So this is to let anyone who doesn't know already that motorcycles are not allowed. Anyway we didn't let that ruin our 3 day weekend. We rode 1100 miles in northern GA before returning home and spent our money elsewhere. I don't know yet if this is a state funded park, but if it is, someone's going to hear about this. I pay a lot of taxes every year to the state of Georgia. All in all we had a great weekend in north GA.
  16. Needed an air shock pump for the '99, and found one on Ebay #360254648832 for about half the price Harley was asking.... for what looked like the same they have except this one was silver... Finally got it, and it's terrible. It was rated 0-60psi, but had to pump like he!! the get the front forks up to 10# and I gave up trying to get the rear shock past 35#. I wouldn't recommend this pump to anyone. I'm going to go visit a bicycle shop to see what they have.... You know what they say...Experience is costly. Hope this keeps another member from making the same mistake....
  17. Brad and Lonna...Thank You. Debby is so happy and I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. Enjoyed the visit and next time..Ride Ride Ride!
  18. OK, for lack of a better name that's all I could think of to call it. When I visit VR.org I pick up this website in the browsing history http://img121.imagehacks.info/img121/10 It doesn't take me anywhere when I try to go to it, can't get any properties info on it, and it only shows up when I visit VR.org. I'm a little concerned because of the 'hacks'. Anyone know what's going on?? Could we have some sort of crawler working the site?? I see it when I want to go back several pages and use the hot list to the right of the forward/back arrows.

  20. Well we are finally moving forward with Charlene's surgery, seems all the phone calls and getting with our HR rep this morning at work helped. Only thing is we now have to start the whole process all over, back to the Dr for pr-op visit, cant be over 30 days between surgery and last visit, then have to go thru the consents again and pre-op at the hospital all over again, surgery is now scheduled for Jan. 25 and Jan 28. I am still fairly bitter about the way the insurance co. treated her file, but she is handling it much better. Thanks for all your prayers and support, it helps to have a big family backing you when you need it.
