  1. My bike has been doing this for some time. When Im moving forward at any speed I hear a clicking or grinding sound comming from the rear wheel. To me it sounds like a rotor out of balance, but when I put a drag on the brake the sound is still there. Its not a noise that is constant . Maybe I can explain with this. Sounds like Im putting something in my spokes and taking it out every half of turn. I have greased everything . 19000 miles. PS.... Hey everybody its been a long time.
  2. Looks like I will be going back to work mid Jan. Received notification from the ins. co, that I was approved till then. Cant believe I am actually going to enjoy getting back to work...............Recovery this time was a little quicker than when I had the same surgery on my right hand in 2005, the incision was only 1/2 the size this time as compared to last time, still having some discomfort when I try to use it to pick things up or support my weight on it. Hopefully that will all be gone by the time I go back to work.
  3. As the temps go down, so does my riding time. That means I have more time to tinker in the garage and add stuff. Does any know the power budget for an 2006 RSTD? I have passing lights, and would like to know how much additional power is available for goodies...
  4. This week I find myself in yet another hotel with very substandard Internet service. As many of you know, I travel on a weekly basis and actually spend more nights in hotel rooms each than I do at home. Now I'm not all that picky and the company that I work for is fairly conservative when it comes to how much I should spend on hotel rooms so I stay in mid grade hotels and about 95% of the time, I stay at Comfort Inns. There are really only a handful of things that I expect. A very clean room, a coffee pot and decent Internet service. I keep pretty good records of which ones are pretty good and which or not and won't return to one that doesn't meet my few expectations. Now, ALL Comfort Inns have either wireless or hard wired internet service. Some have both. I find that about 40% of them actually work pretty darn good, maybe another 30% are acceptable and the remaining 30% make me want to Now HERE is my biggest complaint. If I am at a hotel that is having a problem with their Internet service. Most of the time, about 99% of the time, they give me a phone number for their service provider and want me to call them. That is my rub. It is NOT my problem...it is THEIR problem. I know that my computer is working properly. I have no desire to spend one to more hours on the telephone with THEIR service provider helping them troubleshoot THEIR problems. I have done it once or twice and it ALWAYS turns out to be a problem with either the provider or the hotel hardware. It has NEVER...not a single time, been an issue with my computer. So, why should I...a paying guest...be asked to call and spend my evenings helping to troubleshoot THEIR issues? You all know the routine...."have you tried restarting your computer"...OK...."let's go into your settings"...."do you how to run a command from a command line prompt"....yadayadayadayada.......................... "OK...the problem seems to be on our end...............".... YOU THINK? It happened again last night and sure enough, they wanted me to call the service provider. I said no thanks, I don't work for you. Please call them yourself and get the problems resolved. About 10 minutes later, the service provider actually called ME. He asked if I was using Wifi or the hardwired connection. I told him that I had tried both with the same results. I get an excellent Wifi signal and have no problem connecting. I also have no problem connecting via the hardwired connection. In both cases though, it works and then stops and then 3 or 4 minutes later...works again. I click on a link and it times out...I click again and it opens. "OK sir.......have you tried restarting your system". NO...I have NOT restarted my system and I'm NOT going to either. I'm also not going to open my settings.....I DON'T WORK FOR YOU or the HOTEL! You guys figure it out. GOODBYE. OK.....rant mode off............
  5. Amazing we all learned English! I think a retired English teacher was bored. THIS IS GREAT! Read all the way to the end. This took a lot of work to put together! You think English is easy?? 1) The bandage was wound around the wound. 2) The farm was used to produce produce. 3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse. 4) We must polish the Polish furniture. 5) He could lead if he would get the lead out. 6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert. 7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present. 8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum. 9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes. 10) I did not object to the object. 11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid. 12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row. 13) They were too close to the door to close it. 14) The buck does funny things when the does are present. 15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line. 16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow. 17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail. 18) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear. 19) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests. 20) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend? Let's face it, English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France . Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it? If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down; you fill in a form by filling it out; an alarm goes off by going on. English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible. PS. - Why doesn't 'Buick' rhyme with 'quick' ? You lovers of the English language might enjoy this: There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is 'UP' It's easy to understand UP meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP ? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report? We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver; we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house, and some guys fix UP the old car. At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing, but to be dressed UP is special. A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP. When the sun comes out we say it is clearingUP. When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP. When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP. One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now my time is UP, so........it is time to shut UP! Now it's UP to you to decide what to do with this email.
  6. Last few times I've cruised through the chat room, nobody was home. So I thought I'd put out the word this time.........
  7. I had some tests on my ears today about 1 1/2 hours worth of very involved testing, due to the vertigo and dizziness I have been experiencing for the past 1 1/2 months. They believe there is a problem with a nerve that connects my ear to my brain that is not functioning all the time, he explained it as a short circuit in laymans terms, now I have to have an MRI of my ear to get a more detailed image of whats going on. It seems like I have been going to the Dr.'s for one thing or another for the past 3-4 months, next week or sometime before Xmas I have to go have an injection into my neck to try to alleviate the pain and discomfort I have be experiencing lately................when will it end.............???? But at least I have plenty of time since I am off on disability for the next 3-5 weeks. I guess it comes with getting to be a senior citizen.
  8. Yesterday some of the O.F.'s in NorCal got together for the first time in too long of a time. Steve (SteveD..aka Hdhtr2000) Dubois and his wife Michell were in town for the first time in 3 years to visit kids and GK's. So what better excuse needed to get together with the old crew. Vic (LoneEagle) Tibs, Rick (EasyRider) Bray and wife Doris, Rich (Rich99) Elliot, and Yours Truly.. , met up at Steve's daughter Bree's house, and headed off the Red Robin for bugers. We had a great time and the laughing never did seem to stop. We had a few group photos taken in front of the house by Bree which will be posted later. This one was sent to me this morning by Rich99. We gotta do this again...
  9. Hey I am new to this site but have been on a couple of others. I have a 85 Goldwing Aspencade GL1200 that is NOT Fuel Injected, or computerized. It has carbs. I started riding my wing on morning and it ran fine, then after going around 24 miles or 45 minutes I stopped to call a friend and turned off the wing. After about 5 minutes I started the Wing back up and when I went about a Half a block that is when I started having problems. It seemed to not be running right so I limpped back home and that is where it has been for 2 to 3 weeks. I have checked and there is no Spark to the front two cyliners (Plugs) I first thought it was my coils but I have a hard time thinking that both coils would go bad at the same time. Could anyone let me know if it could be the Pulse Generator or what. Thanks I could us all the help I can get. Since i Live in Florida I ride all the time. Plus the Wing stays in the Garage.

  13. For those of you that need a part number for repairs or "Bling" from time to time I stumbled accross this! Looks to have a lot of items for a lot of Yamaha's. And yes I know a lot of them are not produced any more. But when calling around the country trying to find one you would now have a # at least? It helped me find some discontinued bling! Bryan
  14. Had a nice short last ride for the year today, tomorrow I will be having carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand, also wont be back to work till mid or end of Jan. Perfect time for some paid time off, never had this much time off at Christmas time. Surgery at 7:00 am tomorrow morning (Monday), will be home by 9:30/10:30 am, I cant believe how fast they do them now, when I had my right hand done back in 2005, I was at the hospital for at least 1/2 a day. This will give me a taste of retirement...........looking forward to it.
  15. Just found this video about Buffalo and I wanted to share for those that might want to spend a little time in the area...
  16. Yes bad drivers get us all, 2 and 4 wheelers alike but sometimes it the little things that bend the the branch to the limit . Just one thing I really hate!! The metal bridges that I have to cross from time to time that grab your bike and seem to toss you around. You know the ones that with the rectangle grid pattern that tend to span , at great heights I must ad!, rivers and such. Last time I was on such a bridge it had one lane gone for construction and, not being overly excited about heights would explain why I felt like screeming like a little girl!!!
  17. Prayers are needed for HAL ( Halmosthere) and His family. Hals Sister was ran over by a car a few months back and is back in the Hospital again, this time everything is trying to shut down, the next 48hrs will be very Critical. Thank you !! Kreg
  18. I bought a HJC Sy-Max II about a year ago and have been happy with it. BUT......the other day the release button for the flip up chin acted weird and took a few trys to get it to release. Today it would not release at all. Dang! I thought at one time someone had mentioned a problem similar to this with the Sy-Max but I can't find anything on a search. Any thoughts? I'm checking the HJC site for a fix or where to send it in. Mike
  19. I counted the tines and looked at how heavy they were. Surely a Rack for the wall no matter what. About that time he jumped up and took off! I think next time I'll use a gun instead of the Ranger!!:bang head: It was a Rack to remember. Probally dead somewhere!!! Shame and fender, hood, headlight and parking light probally cost more than the meat was worth. I do think I would have mounted that one and invented a good lie!! It was a beautiful rack!! I think the old man that lived close was going looking.
  20. Just wondering which threads" - have the most viewings? - have the most replies? - have lasted the longest time?

  23. Officially, Mike and I have been homeless the last 18 mons. However we've spent the time couch surfing and paying our way, though griping alot at the circumstances it's put us in. I'm not asking anyone here for money or a place to stay so let us be clear about this. What I am asking is help locating a place to live. With room mates if needed. Ist preference would be somewhere in Central Georgia because Mike has a job and goes to school here. However we can relocate if we must, we'll just need help. Usually one turns to family in times like this. However Mike's family aren't able to help us right now, nor do we wish to worry and burden his Dad so soon after his heart attack and bypass surgery. So I'm turning to the next closest thing to family. You guys! I'm sitting here numb screaming inside not this again. This will be the 4th move in the last 18mons! I know y'all can brainstorm ideas as a group. Technically we'd qualify for low income housing but the waits are years long and I don't have that kind of time. I have 45 days from today to find a place in which to move. Please help me.
  24. I got clearance to go back to work Monday morning light duty, my job has computer work for me so I can start getting a paycheck again. This has been a long trying time and I am glad it is almost over. Tom
  25. Well, I'll be back to work tomorrow, but the doctor said next riding year looks like it will be my next.....SUCKS big time
