  1. Im changing my oil tmmrw morning...Any tips on filters, oil type..etc. I would really appreciate it(my first time on this bike)
  2. Hey! Any one know what happened to ScaryLarry? Last time he was on, was October.
  3. http://www.theprovince.com/business/Vancouver+most+expensive+city+North+America/6157217/story.html No wonder I am broke all the time...
  4. I just got off the phone with a person having an East Indian accent claiming to be from Internet Canada. They claimed that my computer may be passing and receiving Malware and wanted access to my PC to fix this. I obviously declined, and then googled the number. It appears this number 760-705-8888 has also been related to other scams such as wanting your hydro info etc. They were very persistant and they even asked me go into my computer mangement folder so I could see the errors for myself. Fortunatly I am fully aware that this file will from time to time show errors and warnings, but for someone who is not it makes the whole thing sound very legit. At which piont they offer to correct this, you need only to give them access to your PC. Needless to say I declined and strongly suggested they go fly a kite. I also found this interesting link when I googled the number http://tragicswake.com/2011/03/phone-scam-warning-760-705-8888/
  5. I travel a lot for business and am trying to fit a day in before or after business for a ride where possible and theres no shortage of my business pals willing to take a customer out for a "business event"! I wish someone would visit me in Long Island so I could return the favor ! Anyway, picked up a Harley Ultra Glide the past Monday. This my 2nd time on a Harley. There's a lot I like about it, plenty I don't but I have to say Harley instils a mind set I don't get on my venture and I was digging it but not enough to switch. Rode out to Canyon Lake to a place called Tortilla Flats, an hour or so east of Phoenix. Anyone local over there knows what a beautiful crazy ride that one road to Tortilla Flats is. Did a lot of riding around Superstition Mountain and a few more lake areas. Fantastic region.....and the weather this time of year is perfect. Have another ride planned for the fall, going north of Phoenix this time, Sedona, Red Rocks, etc. I'm trying to learn my new Nikon DLSR, not succeeding but heres a few pics from the trip https://picasaweb.google.com/ablumny/ArizonaRideFeb2012?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCMLEi4vCgv7yDQ&feat=directlink
  6. That was not a bad performance considering it was a one time show and the amount of preparation & choreographing that went into it.. Better than many I have seen. Gary
  7. Wow I got a long way to go to catch up this new one with the RSV chrome. My first list is just shy of 5000.00. What did I do ? Kelly thinks Im nuts and says whats wrong with the old one . I say " nothing " just time to start a new project.
  8. Looking for a new set of tires. Seen the Shinko Tourmaster 230. Didnt know about them. Been using The Dunlop 404 but go though a rear every summer. I do get about 10,000 to 12,000 out of the rear. Most of the time 2up.
  9. Well I seem to be down to the small things the make me twitch My 84 has a the digital lcd clock in the cluster. It works, no buttons are stuck. I am able to set the time with no problem. I have power when I shut the key off & short term she seems to be keeping time. I set it two days ago to match the clock on my GPS which is also the same time as my Honda750. Today I happened to look at it and it is 3 hours faster that the GPS & the Honda, which are still in sync. Is there something I should check to fix this or is it basically useless?
  10. Im considering going with a motor club, one that will also cover the bike. Right now im leaning on going with the GWRRA because their roadside assistance also covers cars as well. What im looking for is opinions from members here who use any of the different motor clubs that are out there, your experiences with them, pros and cons, etc. Im realizing that as I get older im having a much harder time doing some of the basic stuff like changing a flat tire, especially since I ant kneel anymore. So, tell me your thoughts on the clubs.....
  11. I finally have time to donate to the 86, I fixed the tail light this morning which wasn't working and synced the carbs now I am replacing the tires. The homemade trailer hitch is a BIG PAIN in the BUTT I think the next time I change the rear I will get rid of it.I am getting to old to keep doing this stuff.
  12. I know ya'll been busy on the International Purchasing project and all the other projects you got your fingers in but hey! .............Take a little time and have a Happy Birthday!!! Mike
  13. Here's a rather long presentation done by Jay Leno on the Crysler Turbine. I was lucky enough to see one of them being demo'd at the Eastland Mall, Covina Ca. in 1963. They would fire it up several times during the day and the schedule was posted next to the car. At the time they were drumming up entries for a lottery they were holding to pick individuals that they would 'loan' it to for 3 months at a time. I understood when they scrapped the project that they distroyed all but one of the cars, and it ended up in their museum. I guess according to Leno there were two. Can you imagine what one of these things would bring on the block at Barret Jackson?? I wonder what Leno had to pay Chrysler for his?? This is a long video but nicely done and well worth watching... 14. I got the boot tonight and could not get back on to chat. So forgive me, I will try again tomorrow night. Although, I will have Ella for a sleepover, for the last time until she moves on Monday to Kansas City, Mo. Yama Mama
  15. Just like the title says IS there a "safe" way to drive a bike through Chicago? I did read this thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50392 I have driven through Chicago in my truck many times, My truck is a full size, extended cab, 8' box with over sized cap, 4x4 Pickup painted bright red. On almost every trip through there, I nearly get hit at least one time by someone that either does not see me or just doesn't care. Now my bike with trailer is a whole lot smaller and a whole lot less intimidating. Heck even a Smart Car will win in an altercation with a bike. While I don't think there is a good time of day to go through Chicago, is there a less bad time? But seeing as I live near Milwaukee Wisconsin, anything that is south or east of me requires either a very long detour around Chicago, or taking the ferry (IF it is running and not broke down) for big . $294 round trip for me, the bike, and the trailer.
  16. This is a little premature but have been thinking about this for a while so, figgured I'd throw it out here and see what kinda responses ya'll might come back with. When we retire (2-3 yr from now), unless we win a lotto, we will have to continue working, at least part time. We're thinking about wintering south of the border somewhere like Texas or Southern CA, etc ... returning to Canada for the summer. With our limited pension we figgure we could accomplish this by doing seasonal campground caretaking work which usually provides free camping and a small wage. No idea at this time if that is even possible or where to start looking for possible opportunities. Also open to other ideas, keeping in mind our limited budget and needs. We want to travel on the scoot with our tent trailer in tow and will probably live in it for the most part unless there is a better offering. Don't know how long we'd be able to do this...time will tell. Looking for your comments / suggestions / ideas ... On the other hand, if anyone wants to offer us a free place to stay.....
  17. I hope this works, you know me, I usually goof up these things. http://www.miniatur-wunderland.com/exhibit/video/5-minutes-wunderland/ It is worth your time to watch, I think! But try it anyway. Yama Mama
  18. Trying to plan for some events this year along with a vacation and was just wondering if there will a Eureka Springs Hub rally this year and if so about what time of year will it be.
  19. I used to be able to log in to my daily viewed sites and my sign in info was retained in my computer and I went directly to the site, grabbed a cup of coffee, and sat back to enjoy. Now, each time I visit this site (and the others) I have to reinput my user name and password...gets a bit tedious (yes, I know, I AM lazy!)... is there a way around this?
  20. Well I got the call from HQ they offed me a SSGT position and I accepted the job so i will be leaving again this summer for Afghanistan. What I wanted to do is sale my bike and when I return get another full dresser, But I want to offer it to ya first. Im not real sure on the what i want for it and I cant put a dollar amount on the bike because of the good times we had together but it does need some work. I have the stuff to get it done just no time with the getting ready and spending time with the wife and the girls.Along with that I have a Honda 79cx500c that im going to sale too. I hope to get pictures up in the next month so I can get things going.
  21. I am no longer able to send pm's, I get kicked off the site every time I try. Anyone else, or is it just me? Wonder how that happened.
  22. Now just what is it? Well I spent some time to make a spice rack for my wonderful wife,,, she wanted it for a long time,, but it involved cutting wood and that is not my specialty,,, but I done IT. Now of course the shop is all dusty and my Scamper is sitting there all covered in dust,,, not really all that bad, but bad enough to need a cleaning,,,,, sooooooo what better way to clean the dust off than go for a ride,,, SO I DONE IT. Didn't work so good, so maybe I have to try IT again, and ride a little longer and faster.
  23. After having internet issues today, here finally are pictures from Sunday! We had a great time! http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/2012/SleeperhawkMechanics%20201201%20NC%20ME/
  24. Since Working on my plastic welding skills, kind of got the itch to get back to fabricating. I have time on my hands since retiring a few years back & I decided to take a 10 week course on the operation of both oxy–fuel and electric welding systems, as well as the joining processes of SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and plasma cutting. It's been a long time since I did any fabrication (35 years) & I still have my old Oxy torches & arc welder, now I guess I'll need to get my a tig, mig, & plasma torch. Andy
  25. I have to agree with Tom , we have our first snow here in n.eastern ky and i hate snow its time for spring, bring on MD steve
